Ashley Cooke

Chayce beckham, jackson dean, trending on billboard.

Early in the evening, he took a moment to acknowledge his recent trio of show date cancellations, saying, “As y’all know last weekend I had to cancel three shows, but I was not going to cancel Nashville under any circumstances,” a declaration that elicited cheers from the devoted crowd. Bryan’s voice sounded slightly haggard around the edges, making it clear he was still battling illness. “So, I’m going to sound good on some songs and I’m going to sound like s— on some songs. But when you see me drinking out of this cup,” holding up a red plastic cup, “I’m drinking tequila.”

The sentiment became an ongoing humorous moment, with the crowd cheering each time he lifted the red cup to his lips. The singer-songwriter grinded it out Saturday evening, offering his fans the best he had to give — and those loyal followers stayed with him the whole way, taking over singing the words to songs such as “Crash My Party” and “My Kind of Night.”

The tour’s namesake brought a highlight of the evening, as Bryan, situated center stage with his guitar, paid tribute to farmers, military members, small-town denizens, U.S.A. and Music City itself, with the crowd offering chants of “U.S.A! U.S.A.!” as the song concluded.

“Thank you so much for this energy in here tonight,” he said, as he shared a bit of his journey. He played his breakthrough as a songwriter, Billy Currington’s 2006 hit “Good Directions,” and noted that he quickly tore through all the money he made as a writer on the song. “I bought a bass boat and two four-wheelers and I spent all my damn money.” His rendition of “Good Directions” proved a vigorous reminder that underneath that charismatic onstage persona is a sturdy songwriter who in addition to writing many of his own songs such as “We Rode in Trucks,” and “Someone Else Calling You Baby,” co-wrote songs for Bryan co-write songs for Florida Georgia Line (“That’s How We Roll,” a collab with Bryan) and Travis Tritt (“Honky Tonk History”).

Later in the evening, Bryan again acknowledged lingering vocal issues, joking, “If y’all give me a three-star review on Yelp tonight, I’m gonna be pissed.”

Bryan switched to piano offering a snippet of the 1981 Lionel Richie and Diana Ross collaboration “Endless Love.” The rest of the evening would bring a mingling of covers and his own hits, such as his own 2009 hit “Do I,” Ronnie Milsap’s 1981 hit “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me,” Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion,” and Bryan’s “Rain Is a Good Thing.” He offered a solo acoustic rendition of his 2013 hit “Drink a Beer,” a tender ode to loved ones that has become a light-up-the-room staple in concert. He ended with his signature anthems “Country Girl (Shake It For Me),” “Play It Again” and the all-too appropriate “I Don’t Want This Night to End,” which found seemingly every fan in the house with hands raised high in boozy appreciation for the hit-filled evening.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would be in this arena, playing whatever I want for two hours,” he told the crowd.

Ashley Cooke Takes Her Best ‘Shot’

Cooke made perhaps her biggest Music City showing to date, in the first opening slot on Bryan’s tour, flexing laid-back, accessible style with an infectious pop-punk energy as she regaled the crowd with songs from her recently-released debut album, Shot in the Dark . Her pitch-perfect vocals led “Getting Into,” before welcoming fellow concert opener Dean for a sultry take on another album cut, “What Are You on Fire About.” Commanding center stage, standing close and mingling their voices effortlessly, the two brought an undeniable energy and camaraderie to the stage.

Cooke, signed to Big Loud Records, worked the early evening crowd with her conversational style and encouraging the audience to light up Bridgestone with a sea of cell phone lights for her performance of her RIAA-certified gold record, “Never ‘Til Now,” before rounding out her set with songs including “Back in the Saddle.”

Chayce Beckham Translates Television, Viral Success to the Stage

Beckham, a former American Idol winner and a polished entertainer and vocalist further bolstered his career surge thanks to his viral hit “23,” which has also cracked the top 40 on the Country Airplay chart. His 30-minute opening set at Bridgestone was a potent testament to the road-tested stage presence he’s forged in the two years since his Idol triumph.

Beckham launched with “Doin’ It Right,” following with “Keeping Me Up All Night,” and using his time before a Music City crowd to preview his upcoming Aug. 25 release “Little Less Lonely,” which drew a solid reaction.

Bryan’s openers generously have access to the full stage and walkway, which Beckham used to his advantage. Slinging his guitar over his back, he strutted to the front of the walkway, kneeling at the edge of the stage to shake hands with those in the front rows.

He dedicated “Til the Day I Die” to a friend, Lance, who died last year. With his dark hair and dark attire, he evoked a certain throwback country essence, as he namechecked Red Foley, Merle Haggard and the classic Haggard/Nelson song “Pancho and Lefty.”

“This is about staying true to who you are and not letting anyone tell you any different … we miss you, Lance.”

He concluded with a muscular rendition of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up,” and his own breakthrough hit, “23.”

Jackson Dean Evokes a Gruff, Outlaw Cool

Newcomer Dean broke through last year with his freewheeling, defiance-fueled “Don’t Come Looking,” which became a top 5 Country Airplay hit. The song would be an apt introduction to Dean’s enviable musical talents with his soulful brand of country with its Southern rock-soaked edges and flashes of grunge. Ambling onstage in his signature feathered hat, Dean sang “I ran like hell from wedding bells/ And I rambled my whole life,” in his opening song, “Trailer Park,” staking his claim of freewheeling musicality early.

Though Chris Stapleton is a peerless vocalist, newcomer Dean shares a similar vocal essence — one uninhibited and unpredictable, veering from serrated to soulful on a whim. But his vocal gifts only tell half the story; it’s not that common for an absolute newcomer to release a live album — much less a live album recorded on the historic stage of the Ryman Auditorium — but that’s what Dean did earlier this year, following the 2022 release of his Big Machine Records debut album, Greenbroke .

On the considerably larger Bridgestone stage, he offered the fan favorite “Heavens to Betsy,” about a deceased man trying to reconnect with his daughter from heaven — or someone “looking for redemption in his own way,” as Dean put it. He followed with an adrenaline-fueled take of Fred Eaglesmith’s 1998 song “49 Tons,” before dipping into the gruff-yet-vulnerable “Fearless (The Echo).”

“I’ve walked in here a lot of times and I’ve always thought about playing int his room, and here we are,” he said, launching into “Don’t Come Looking.”

Luke Bryan Grinds Through Illness for Gutsy Nashville Show [Review]

Luke Bryan really didn't want to cancel on his fans in Nashville. So, he squirreled water bottles across his stage, moved his band closer, crumpled up his set list and asked his fans to do some heavy lifting.

They showed up for him.

The big pivot that happened early during Saturday night's (Aug. 12) concert at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena was necessary because Bryan — by his own admission — couldn't find his voice. The illness that forced him to miss a trio of shows last weekend hadn't gone away and nothing he tried (mostly water and tequila) worked to help him hit a groove. His current radio single “ But I Got a Beer In My Hand ” — a song that, as it turns out, is very high for Bryan — tested him, and soon after, he made the call to give this crowd a different kind of show.

It was the right decision, since Bryan was in no man's land. The show had started, and it was too late to cancel and issue refunds. He also didn't have a phone-a-friend option, as the usual small crowd of surprise guest artists waiting to bail him out were off on their own tours.

An 8-minute-long version of “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day” probably wasn't on many Bryan fan bingo cards, but this early-show highlight showcased his band and his burgeoning skill on electric guitar. It seemed like that was a direction he may go until he returned to the top of his cat walk for two more tries at normalcy.

The Country On Tour stage is very large and Plan A is for Bryan to work the top of it, standing, hip-shaking and singing 100 feet away from his band. The isolation left nowhere to hide during a coughing fit, so after "Country On," a small drum set, piano and stools were rolled into place behind him.

The 10-song, quasi-acoustic set that followed was no less vocally challenging, but it changed expectations. Sure, a few fans left, but those that stayed were treated to covers of Ronnie Milsap , Billy Currington , Lionel Richie and more.

It's hard to fault Bryan for wanting to make it through his two-hour show and his determination and grit overshadowed the vocals he missed and the unforced errors that held him back elsewhere (starting a song in the wrong key, for example). If you get the sense that the real show was watching him figure out how to finish, you're mostly right. Still, it was disappointing that knowing he was on an edge, Plan B wasn't solidified. Simply turning up the backing vocals would have covered some of the gaps.

However it all came together in the end in a somewhat surprising way. After a solo version of "Drink a Beer" that was as satisfying as it usually is, the American Idol judge threw caution to the wind and gutted out five finishing songs. "One Margarita," "Rain Is a Good Thing," "I Don't Want This Night To End" and "Country Girl" brought him to a one-song encore ("Play It Again") and the finish line.

He could have canceled. Some would argue he should have canceled. The rest got the carefree, uptempo country party they hoped for and left having seen a show that was truly unique. It was a windy road,  but aren't those the roads you remember most fondly?

Luke Bryan, "Proud To Be Right Here" Tour Review

Luke Bryan’s tenth studio album, “BORN HERE LIVE HERE DIE HERE” was released back in 2020, a full tour to follow with special guests Morgan Wallen as the opener and Caylee Hammack on the first half and Runaway June and the last half of the tour.

Due to COVID the tour was cancelled and pushed to 2021 where Morgan Wallen was taken off the tour and Dylan Scott was added. The tour was renamed the, “Proud To Be Right Here” tour.

Luke was performing at three different venues in California. We went to the San Bernardino, Glen Helen Amphitheater stop on the tour which was the final tour date.

We arrived early for our VIP package. To read the article you can CLICK HERE. - https://backstagecountry.org/blog-1/luke-bryan-vip-knockin-boots-expierence

This venue is gigantic, 65,000 seats which meant - sold out! We were six rows behind the pit and had incredible seats where we could see the acts perfectly.

Runaway June opened the show. The band is made up of - Naomi Cooke, Jennifer Wayne and Natalie Stovall. They are best known for their hit, “Buy My Own Drinks” which ranked high on year end charts: US COUNTRY AIR PLAY for Billboard and US HOT COUNTRY SONGS for Billboard as well as ranking high on weekly charts.

They were such a high energy band and kept the crowd entertained and hyped us up for Dylan Scott and Luke Bryan. Their setlist was a great setlist as they even added new songs of theirs:

American Girl (Tom Petty cover)

Down The Middle

Buy My Own Drinks

Runaway June ended their set with patriotism singing a cover of, “America The Beautiful”. Runaway June is definitely one of the classiest and talented acts I have ever seen. During, “Buy My Own Drinks” members of Luke Bryan’s band came on dressed as Cooke, Wayne and Stovall as a end of tour prank and played alongside them.

luke bryan tour review

Dylan Scott came on next - he is best known for his song, “Nobody” and “My Girl” both number one songs on Country Radio. Dylan came out ready for a party and the crowd showed up. Scott’s setlist included fan favorites as well as:

Hooked / I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyed Peas cover)

Nothing to Do Town

Beer Buddies

Desperado/ Nobody

Fishin’ in the Dark / I Like It, I Love It, I’ve Got A Quarter In My Pocket / Dust on the Bottle / Check Yes or No (Covers)

When You Say Nothing at All (Keith Whitley cover)

In The End / It’s My Life (Linkin Park cover & Bon Jovi cover)

Scott made it his own show which I really appreciated. An incredible setlist and just as incredible covers. He’s definitely a great entertainer. During the performance of his newest single, “My Truck” his band photographer came on stage in a toy truck with a ‘Happy Birthday’ balloon on it since Scott’s birthday was coming up.

“Nobody” - Dylan Scott, Videography by Backstage Country

The time came and Luke Bryan took the stage opening with, “That’s My Kinda Night,” the rumble of the bass and the energy of the crowd made the entire show come alive. This being the first time seeing Luke, it was absolutely incredible. He has being an entertainer running through his blood. He kept the crowd cheering, jumping and singing a long the whole concert - two hours!

About the Venue: This is the most unorganized venue making it really confusing. I probably would have bought Irvine tickets if I had known how bad the venue was. Parking was extremely difficult and we were thankfully dropped up but pick up/leaving the venue was just as bad. The stage and seating were the best thing about this venue.

Seats: We enjoyed the show from ORCH2, Row J. They were just foldable seats but there wasn’t much sitting. The pictures don’t do it justice but we had great seats.

Sound: FANTASTIC! Luke made a comment that he wanted the local In N Out to be able to hear us and I’m sure they did, but I’m sure the speakers were even louder. It was much louder at this venue than some indoor concerts I attended.

Cleanliness: There were a bunch of porta potties around the venue and VIP had some too. Hand sanitizer booths were not found around the venue, and COVID tests and vaccines were not checked beforehand for the show or VIP so having to get them for the show was pretty useless. The venue was an absolute disaster after the show ended.

Parking: Parking is not free at this venue so you will want to check the website beforehand to get prices for tickets. Drop off is free but it is a mess. Both getting in and out of the venue took a long time.

Rating: VIP and Venue 5/10 but for the show itself 10/10! AMAZING show! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Luke again. Just not at this venue…….or anyone at this venue.

This review of Luke Bryan’s Charlotte show may not seem positive. But does it matter?

There comes a point in every Luke Bryan concert — and I know a little bit about Luke Bryan concerts, having been to five in the past six years — when Luke Bryan manages to go off the rails.

Sometimes it’s scary, like when he slipped and fell into the crowd at his 2014 show in Charlotte. (I missed that one, but it was a whole deal; you can look it up on YouTube.) Sometimes it’s Mother Nature’s fault, like in 2016, when torrential downpours forced concertgoers back to their cars and delayed the end of the show by an hour.

And sometimes it’s just weird. Like on Friday night in the middle of his headlining set at PNC Music Pavilion.

“This is my NASCAR capital of the world right here, Charlotte,” the country singer said as he looked out at a sea of about 20,000 fans. “The world of tobacco and moonshine. Tobacco. Let’s just smoke. Smoke tobacco. Chew that s---. Drink moonshine. And die early. Die early before you get too old. Right? That’s my plan.”

There were some cheers, I think, only because people didn’t know how else to respond.

Then: “I’m sure y’all love paying taxes, right? Who loves to pay taxes?”

This time, there were some boos, and fans meant them.

“Damn, y’all making me feel like Blake Shelton. I never been booed,” Bryan continued. “So ... just remember, when y’all spend money on one of my concerts, your money goes to good causes, OK?” He proceeded to explain that those causes include corn to put in his deer feeders, food for the fish in his lake, and a duck farm he claims he had purchased earlier in the day.

What made this all even crazier is that it turned out to a set-up for his cover of the 2021 Hot Country No. 1 that he was featured on, Jordan Davis’s “Buy Dirt” — which is about how the things that make life rich AREN’T material possessions.

Now, if it seems like I’m blowing all of this out of proportion ... that’s because I am.

Because these days, I think the only proper way to write about a Luke Bryan concert is to accentuate the stuff that you don’t see at every other Luke Bryan concert.

For instance, we could — and should — point out Bryan’s revisiting of “Good Directions” (a song he co-wrote that was recorded by Billy Currington in 2005), performed while sitting at an upright piano, with opener Mitchell Tenpenny accompanying him on vocals and an acoustic guitar.

Not content to play it totally straight, Bryan put a twist on the first verse:

I was sittin’ there sellin’ turnips on a flatbed truck

Crunchin’ on a pork rind when she pulled up

She had to be thinkin’ this is where —

And instead of the original words, “— rednecks come from ,” Bryan crooned “North Carolina Taaaaaar Heels” to thunderous cheers and a smattering of boos.

Then he recast the line again: “She had to be thinkin’ this is where —” here he inserted a brief pause for dramatic effect — “Duke Bluuuuue Devilssss...” (Not quite as thunderous cheers, a slightly larger collection of boos mixed in.)

Then one more time: “NC Staate Wooooolfpack...” (Roughly the same response as Duke, I’d say?)

“Y’all got a lot of damn colleges around here!” he shouted, having sufficiently riled the crowd up at a fairly random time, in a fairly random fashion, with Tenpenny patiently laughing along.

We also could — and will — point out Bryan’s apparent man-crush on another of his opening acts, Riley Green.

About 30 minutes into his set, Bryan gave a quick salute to Tenpenny and Green, and of the latter, he noted, “That’s a pretty man. That’s a pretty man.” Later, when he brought Green out for a medley of classic country songs, the mention of tequila shots gave Bryan an excuse to serenade Green with a quick bit of Joe Nichols’ “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” for which he teasingly subbed in the word “Riley” for the word “Her.”

For fans of Green and of non-bro-ish country, this stretch of the concert likely was a highlight.

On stage just the two of them, each holding an acoustic guitar, they wove together a sweetly excellent medley that started with “Two Dozen Roses” by Shenandoah; one line into the next song — “Sunday in the South,” another by the Muscle Shoals legends — Bryan warned, “If you don’t know who Shenandoah is, you might need to go take a pee break right now.”

If you’d taken his advice, you would have missed Bryan at his countriest, as the pair went on to also crank out twangy mini-covers of Travis Tritt’s “Here’s a Quarter,” Joe Diffie’s “John Deere Green,” and David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name.”

Most of the rest of the time, Bryan was at his ... regular-est? Or, maybe better to say: His Luke Bryan-est.

Like he always does, he wore a baseball-style cap that he turned frontwards then backwards then frontwards then backwards then frontwards then backwards. Then frontwards. Then backwards. Then ... well, you get the picture.

Like he always does, he drank a margarita during “One Margarita” and a beer during “Drink a Beer.” (He also downed tequila shots throughout the night that were smaller than any tequila shot you’ve ever seen.)

Like he always does, he at some point during every uptempo song stood with his feet planted in a wide stance while moving his hips around like he’s doing the hula hoop.

Like he always does, he covered part of a pop song (in this case, Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”) that allows him to use a falsetto voice.

And like he always does, he changed pretty much every in-song reference to his home state of Georgia to “Carolina.”

Since 2012, Bryan — who celebrated his 46th birthday last Sunday — has performed at the big outdoor amphitheater near the border of Charlotte and Concord a staggering nine times. He basically comes every summer, unless there’s a global pandemic. In fact, it’s getting harder and harder to find reviews of his tours, and I suspect reviewers don’t bother for the same reason they don’t bother covering, say, Jimmy Buffett or Dave Matthews anymore.

In other words, there’s probably no point.

He’ll be back again next year, the show will once again sell out, and even if Bryan produces close to the exact same show he always does, it’ll be a really, really fun night. Yet again.

If you’re a fan of Luke Bryan, you certainly don’t need me to tell you that.

One more thing worth mentioning

A good concert sign-language interpreter can elevate the task to joyous, joyful art form, and the two young women who spent the night switching off to sing/sign Bryan’s parade of hits weren’t good. They were great .

I have no idea what their names were, since he never introduced them; no idea really what they look like, since they never made it up onto the big video screens; no idea whether they’re local hires or employed by the tour. But on the off-chance that they are from Charlotte: If you know them, please email me.

They’re worth a story, I think...

Chicagoans brave the heat to see Luke Bryan perform at Wrigley Field

Many brave the heat in chicago for luke bryan concert.

Despite the heat wave taking over Chicago, many still spent time outdoors on Sunday and some even swarmed to Wrigley Field to see Luke Bryan perform.

CHICAGO - Chicago experienced an unexpected surge in temperatures Sunday, with the heat climbing into the 90s and prompting many to don short sleeves.

"A few days ago it felt like 76, and now it’s hot as hell again," said Monica Brown.

Outside Wrigley Field, fans of country music braved the heat to see Luke Bryan perform as part of his "Mind of a Country Boy Tour."

A day earlier, one of Bryan's equipment semi-trucks got stuck under a bridge in downtown Chicago.

A bystander captured images of the stuck semi-truck Saturday morning under a bridge at Irving and DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Still, the show went on as planned at Wrigley and many attendees still braved the heat.

Local vendors, such as Anthony B., were busy helping people cool off.

With high temperatures and humidity expected to persist over the coming days, residents are advised to stay hydrated, remain indoors when possible, and use air conditioning.

It is also recommended to check on neighbors, particularly seniors, during the heat wave.

Luke Bryan is in Denver this week, but not for music – Here’s what he’s doing

Aug 21, 2024, 4:04 PM | Updated: 10:45 pm

BY SHAWN PATRICK

Normally when Luke Bryan comes to Denver you can find him at Ball Arena or Fiddler’s Green putting on a show. But the country star is in town this week for something much different.

Luke was at Castle Pines Golf Club for Wednesday’s (Aug. 21) Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am as part of the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship .

Bryan was paired up with Broncos’ legend John Elway.

Peyton Manning played as well. He was paired with Denver native Wyndham Clark.

The BMW Championship officially starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

luke bryan tour review

Review by Bryan Bealmear

Luke Bryan’s What Makes You Country Tour – Went supersize, to a full Busch Stadium on Saturday night.

Bryan brought Morgan Wallen, Jon Pardi, and Sam Hunt along for the show. XL Stadium Sized tour was more than just a name. Over the course of nearly 6 hours, Bryan and tour mates played and entertained. With a mix of music for nearly everyone; classic country, classic rock, 2000s rock, each artist had their own individual take on county music, even incorporating some elements of rock concert entrainment.

Starting the evening off was newcomer and NBC’s “The Voice” veteran Morgan Wallen. Wallen’s set consisted of his major singles, a few songs off his first album “ If I Know Me ” , and a rock medley. He began his set with “Whatcha Know ‘Bout That”, then transitioned into his breakout single “The Way I Talk”. Next up was “Happy Hour” then “Whiskey Glasses”.

Wallen then went into a medley of various subgenres of rock, including Linkin Park’s ”In The End”, then The Eagles’ “Life in the Fast Lane”, Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name”, Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody”, Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Going Down”, then finally concluding the medley with Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me”. To wrap up his versatile set Wallen performed his first number one single “Up, Down”.

Keeping with the rock theme, Jon Pardi came onto the stage to Journey’s “Jukebox Hero”. After the intro, Pardi went into a set that covered both of his albums the 2014 “Write You a Song” and 2016’s “California Sunrise”. He started off with “Paycheck”, then went into the 2013 single “Up All Night”.Next up was the 2017 single “Heartache on the Dance Floor”.

Then the 2014 singles “When I’ve Been Drinkin'” and “What I Can’t Put Down”. Next up was his latest single “Night Shift”, “Cowboy Hat”, “She Ain’t In It”, “Head Over Boots”, and before closing, he performed his 2016 hit “Dirt on My Boots”.

Next to take the stage was Sam Hunt. His set was started off with his most recent single of “Downtown’s Dead”. Next was his 2014 single “Leave the Night On”. Up next was his jealously inspiring “Ex to See”, followed by “Take Your Time”. Hunt then took a break to tell the story how he got to where he is now and how one song he wrote that eventually was recorded and released by Billy Currington changed it all.  Currington’s 2013 hit single “We Are Tonight”.

Hunt then proceeded to tell a story about how hard it was to a honky tonk in his college town and how his first trip to Nashville was eye opening. Which he then used to transition to a medley to a medley of honk tonk music. In a who’s who of late 90s and early 2000s county, Hunt covered everyone from: Brooks and Dunn’s “Brand New Man”, Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina”, Dixie Chick’s “Earl had to Die”, Tim McGraw’s “Where the Green Grass Grow”, before finishing up the medley with Garth Brook’s “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)”.

Hunt then transitioned back to his style of music to finish out his set. With his single “House Party”. next up hunt covered all the stages of a break up, starting with the breakup itself “Break Up in a Small Town”.  Next was dealing with break up itself with “Drinkin Too Much”.  Before finally coming to the end of it with hoping the ex misses you with his single “Make You Miss Me”. In a shift of tone, Hunt transitioned to “Body like a Backroad”, while encouraging the crowd to sing along, to close out his set

And finally, the headliner took the stage with a boom. Luke Bryan took to the stage accompanied with fireworks and on-stage pyrotechnics. Bryan’s first song was his hit “Country Girl (Shake It for Me)”. Which set off a succession of Bryan’s hits from his twelve-year career including: “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day”, solo rendition of “This Is How We Roll”, the song that first got him on the radio “All My Friends Say”, “Light It Up”, “Someone Else Calling You Baby”, “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye” , and “Most People Are Good”.

Bry an then broke out a few songs off his latest album, “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” and the album name sake, “What Makes You Country”. Before going back to his stream of hit singles. To finish out this run he performed: “ Kick the Dust Up ”, “Strip It Down ”, “ Drunk on You” , ”Crash My Party ”, and a solo rendition of “Home Alone Tonight” .

Bryan then played a short set with just him and his guitar. Starting with his first number one “Do I”. Followed by the first song he wrote that became a hit, ironically also a Billy Currington hit, “Good Directions”. Next up was his version of Alabama’s “Dixie Land Delight” which his band did help him finish up.

To finish out his set, he then transitioned into the “Drink a Beer” and then the emotional “Roller Coaster”. Bryan ratcheted the energy up for his “Play it Again” hit. Then to bring his set to a high energy close Bryan dusted off “Rain is a Good Thing” After a brief break, Bryan returned for an encore of his high energy “Move” and then closed the night out with “My KindaNight” with fireworks going off in the background.

Luke Bryan's Equipment Truck Gets Stuck Under Bridge

An equipment semi-truck that appears to belong to country singer Luke Bryan got stuck under a bridge in downtown Chicago on Saturday, August 24.

Bryan, 48, is set to perform at Wrigley Field on Sunday, August 25 on the Chicago stop of his Mind of a Country Boy Tour . But on Saturday morning, a bystander captured photos of the truck under a bridge at Irving and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and later, posted the pictures on Reddit .

Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time one of Bryan's trucks has caused trouble during a tour.

Luke Bryan 2024

Back in 2017, one of his trucks struck an overpass on a Long Island parkway following a performance at Jones Beach Theatre. Per the Associated Press , no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

At the time of writing, Bryan has not commented on the Chicago truck incident.

Earlier this year, Bryan made headlines for his performances, during which, he had fallen multiple times on stage. This sparked rumors that Bryan had been drinking before taking the stage, however, in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , Bryan — who is 6'2" — attributed the falls to his height.

"I'm up there trying to do Michael Jackson moves in too big of a frame, and when you add water to a stage and slick cowboy boots, you go down hard," said Bryan. "It's not alcohol, fans. People are assuming — you can't just drink a bottle of vodka and go do a two-hour show."

Bryan is set to return to American Idol for its upcoming 23rd season as a judge, alongside Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood , the latter of who will be replacing Idol judge Katy Perry. In an interview with Seattle radio host Gabe Mercer , Bryan suggested that Underwood "up her therapist" before the season goes into production.

"If she has a therapist, she's probably going to have to double to deal with me and Lionel," Bryan said.

It was terrible. We waited in line for 4 hours to park didn't move more than 1 mile and then they postponed the show instead of canceling so we couldn't get a refund to attend his other show coming to Michigan. I bought tickets to the show because I figured a farm show would be less people to take my 7 year old daughter there was 20,000 people supposed to be in attendance. I would have never bought them if I would have known there'd be so many and such unorganized chaos.

I thoroughly enjoyed his concert. In fact he puts on the best concert I've ever been to. He gave it his all and I was not disappointed. In fact I upgraded my GA ticket to VIP and I'm soooo glad I did because I was all the way up front and he came down the stairs to where I was to give this little girl a hug for her Birthday and I got to see him up really close face to face and touched his chest. It doesn't get any better than that since I am a BIG fan. I LOVE LUKE BRYAN and I am already planning on seeing him again when I can for a meet and greet next time!!!

I want to tell everyone that you need to go to a Luke bryan concert he is awesome the most honest and amazing moment for me in the concert was when he went to the piano and he set down and sang DRINK A BEER he was just like sitting there pouring out his heart to us and I love this song it makes me think about my husband 2years ago he passed away and this song reminds me of him it makes me think about the times you had together and you can remember them too and I know that Luke sings this song in memory of his BROTHER and sister that he lost and he will never know that he is touching his fans like me you see I don't drink beer or anything else but that song holds a lot of memories...I would love to meet Luke bryan someday to talk to him tell him that he does touch his fans ...but just a dream anyway if you can go see Luke go you will love it

LUKE BRYAN CONCERT REVIEW | BLOSSOM MUSIC CENTER | 09.14.19

JB

“What Makes You Country ” — Not so much a question, but a statement was explained in Luke Bryan’s opening song at his sold-out gig at Blossom Music Center on Saturday, September 14 as part of his ‘Sunset Repeat Tour.’

So, what exactly does make one ‘country’? Bryan really never clarified, not in generalities that apply to the masses anyway. If the crowd at Blossom on this night is any indication, Country comes in a variety of looks, including cowboy hats, bandanas, tight pants, inappropriate short-shorts, plaid, Luke Bryan t’s from past tours, tank-tops, and, of course, no country ensemble is complete without a fashionable pair of boots!

Some traits that evidently makes one country: Consumption of overpriced beer, rowdy screams, sing-alongs, and the ability to put all one’s problems aside and live in the moment (even if partially through a phone screen) and have a damn good time.

THAT’s what makes you country!

Gone are the days of Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Garth Brooks. Bryan is a key player and trailblazer in ushering a new modern country music movement. While some of the old-school elements are still present, such as the less-prevalent twang in Luke’s voice, similar lyrical content from the country classics (beer, whiskey, country living, heartache), there is a distinct change in the music, including louder, catchier / danceable bass lines, faster tempos, and an overall happier vibe. Bryan epitomizes the new style of country. Whether it’s a good thing or not is debatable. Country purists and respectfully, the …eh hem…elder statesmen of country fans tend to prefer the old-school style, while fans under 40 seem to dig the new rock blend of the genre. Perhaps that’s an unfair generalization? And, hey, music taste is subjective, amirght?

Although completely neglecting his debut album, ‘I’ll Stay Me,’ (including leaving “All My Friends Say,” that first hooked this reviewer over a decade ago off the setlist), Bryan hit on and seemingly, equally balanced his setlist with tunes from his five most recent studio efforts, and, of course, played “Knockin’ Boots, ” his new radio smash hit that is presumably on his TBA forthcoming album.

Prior to making his stage entrance, intro music played and was accompanied by video depicting common country elements of bonfires, fishing, boots, and open prairie, shown on each of the massive screens flanking both sides of the stage. And, man, what an entrance he made! Coming down the middle of the stage in an ATV-like vehicle through a cloud of smoke, he greeted the crowd with a drawn-out “What’s Up, Blooooooosom” as he strapped on a guitar. The crowd, greater than 20,000+ roared in approval before Luke sang a single note, setting the tone for the evening.

Bryan was decked out in simple, casual apparel, sporting jeans, t-shirt, and ballcap. (Sorry, ladies, no leather pants tonight!)

An early show highlight, “Kick up the Dust,” got what few remaining butts that were seated or plopped on the grass in the lawn up and dancing, showcasing that the power of a radio-hit is not yet to be dismissed.

Luke saved the majority of his better-known songs for the second half of the show, making it almost a “greatest hits” stretch.

This writer could not help but get swept up in the slower (by the evening’s standard) “Crash My Party” and the even slower “Drink a Beer” (an activity at least half in attendance had already participated in).

“Drunk on You,” included lyrics stating Luke is “high on summertime,” which served a somber reminder (along with the comfortable fall-like temperatures) that Summer is nearing its end.

The end of the evening could not have been more perfect as Luke ran through “Play it Again,” and “Country Girl (Shake it for Me.” Sandwiched in between was “ That’s My kind of Night,” which Luke preceeded with a fun “O-H” call folled by a hearty “I-O” response from the not-even-contemplating-leaving-early crowd. (For those not from Ohio, don’t try to imagine the chant; you wouldn’t understand!)

The night ended in unexpected fashion with a real treat as Luke covered Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer.” Even fans that came along as a guest of a “real” fan of Bryan’s knew this one, giving them an opportunity to belt one out before the night ended. And, while Bryan may not have flown like Peter Pan as Jon Bon Jovi did in his band’s music video, his charismatic energy soared even higher and further from the front row to the back of the grass. The only thing that could have made this more perfect is if Luke dedicated the closing song to one’s hopes of getting out of the disastrous Blossom parking lot in under half-hour.

The good vibes, ridiculously fun crowd, and top-notch showmanship showed what made this crowd “country.” And THAT, is my kind of night!

Concert review: Zach Bryan fills U.S. Bank Stadium with a big, loud and confident performance

In just under three years, Zach Bryan has gone from playing the Fillmore Minneapolis nightclub to the biggest stage in town. Saturday night, he filled U.S. Bank Stadium to the rafters with a confident, often compelling and surprisingly loud performance that suggested he has yet to hit his peak.

The 28-year-old’s remarkably swift ascent is all the more notable given that he did it outside the traditional Nashville path to stardom. Indeed, he began his career while still in the Navy, self-releasing his music online to an ever-growing audience. In late 2021, he was honorably discharged after eight years of service, hit the road and hasn’t stopped since.

That year, he played the Basilica Block Party and the Fillmore, which he mentioned twice during Saturday’s show. He sold out Surly Brewing Festival Field in 2022 and Target Center the following summer .

While he is signed to Warner Records, it’s clear Bryan’s the one calling all the shots, as he’s successfully crafted a career out of highly personal numbers that lean heavily into heartache and sadness. He’s also exceedingly prolific and has issued 85 songs over the past two years, across three albums, two EPs and a pair of standalone singles. (That said, he could use some editing, as his records tend to get repetitive the deeper you get into them.)

In a nod to a famously prolific Minnesotan, Bryan took the stage to “When Doves Cry” and jumped right into “Overtime” in a big and booming arrangement that set the pace for the evening. Rather than let his intimate songs get swallowed up by the size of the room, Bryan and his versatile band amped them up in every aspect, turning even the ballads into stadium (country) rockers.

Bruce Springsteen’s acoustic “Nebraska” album is an obvious influence on Bryan’s music and he’s clearly borrowed a thing or two from the E Street Band in terms of live performance, which was evident Saturday night in songs like “Open the Gate,” “Oak Island” and “Oklahoma Smokeshow.” (Not only did Bryan get the Boss to sit in on his song “Sandpaper” from his latest album “The Great American Bar Scene,” Springsteen joined Bryan onstage in Philadelphia for a pair of songs earlier this month.)

Bryan and company played on a long, sparse stage with a giant video screen behind them that stretched from one end of the stadium floor to the other. To help recreate the neighborhood/dive bar vibes of his music, strings of outdoor patio-style lights stretched above crowd.

From the start, Bryan has shown strength as a live performer and Saturday it felt like he had gained an even larger sense of confidence, both with his stage presence and his voice. (His trick of substituting Minneapolis or Minnesota into his song lyrics did get old pretty quickly, though.)

One can’t help but wonder, however, if he’s taking proper care of that voice. More than ever before, he slips into a gruff shout and barks out lyrics like Cookie Monster. During “Dawns,” he almost took it too far, with a sing/shout that was almost violent. That kind of singing can be tough to maintain and, at least for now, it doesn’t look like this guy is going away any time soon.
