Rod Stewart fills in potholes outside Essex property

Rod stewart announces new tour will start in perth and he’s bringing 80s pop icon cyndi lauper.

Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart is heading back to WA — alongside one of the most iconic women in music — after cancelling his previous Perth shows due to the pandemic.

Cyndi Lauper will join Sir Rod on his Australian tour, due to kick off in Perth at RAC Arena on March 11 next year.

The two music legends will be joined by Aussie rocker Jon Stevens at all of their concerts Down Under.

Sir Rod will perform a massive two-hour set including all of his iconic hits including Maggie May, Rhythm of My Heart and Baby Jane.

While Lauper will take to the stage for an hour to perform all her hits including Time After Time, True Colours, and, of course, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Seventy-seven year-old Sir Rod told The Daily Telegraph that this will be the last time he brings a “big rock show” Down Under.

Sir Rod and Lauper will also perform at several A Day On The Green Shows across the east coast.

The Rock N Roll Hall of Famer was forced to cancel his Australian tour at the beginning of the year due to the pandemic.

“My dear friends, once again I feel we’ve all been cheated by this evil disease, so it is with great regret that I announce my shows for 2022 have had to be cancelled,” he said in a statement at the time.

“My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to Australia as soon as the health situation permits.”

LIVE REVIEW: Rod Stewart with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens

Rac arena, perth - saturday 11th march 2023.

12 March 2023 Mark Diggins

There are few artists in the modern history of Rock and Roll whose careers have been as eventful and ground-breaking as that of Sir Rod Stewart. Already immersed in the sounds of Rhythm and Blues and Soul before playing with The Dimensions and  Long John Baldry, he moved on to play with the Jeff Beck Group in 1967. For those that know their music history it was that band that essentially set down the prototype for what would become Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with their exploration of Blues, Folk and Rock. Indeed it’s hard to imagine the likes of Led Zeppelin without that band, and Rod was there at ground zero. Ever the reinventor Rod left the disintegrating band to join Faces in 1969, the band that was formed out of the ashes of The Small Faces when Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie.  Faces were the perfect Rock and Roll band but it was Rod’s love of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding that flavoured his rekindled, and then parallel, solo career.

Add to that heady mix a love of football, the high life, and ale or two and a wonderful eye for self-parody and the 70’s saw Rod achieve even greater heights with albums like ‘Atlantic Crossing’ which tore up the charts globally. The 80’s and 90’s were huge too as he dabbled with new wave and even disco, before another reinvention years later with ‘The Great American Songbook’. As a musician Rod always has had a wonderful eye for a great song, whether his own, or an inspired cover, and despite personal trials and tribulations, and a life never out of the media, he’s still going strong. With 250 million albums sold and countless hit records in his wake he’s still recording. With his latest album, his 31.st solo record, ‘The Tears of Hercules’ out in only 2021 you also feel there are many more chapters still to be written. But as they say ‘Tonight’s the Night’…

On a wonderful Perth Summer evening, Rod played the first date of his latest Australian Tour with wonderful support from Jon Stevens and Cyndi Lauper and it was a show that took us through a career you would be hard pushed to match. The only real question before the show was what would he and his rock solid backing band play for us? After all you could throw a dart at any record and hit gold.

Opening tonight Jon Stevens can’t put a foot wrong and despite a deliciously early 6.30 start he has the half-assembled crowd more than warmed up with a sure-fire set of Noiseworks and INXS classics. Opening with ‘Touch’ from Noiseworks and taking in classics like INXS’s ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ it’s a set you’d swear the crowd knew word for word and the perfect opening to the evening.

rod stewart tour perth

Cyndi Lauper appears from behind a door onto a stage bedecked with inflatables, trademark quirky colours and band. Opening interestingly with ‘Hole in My Heart (All the Way to China)’  things soon warm up as she strides the stage in pink suit and bleached blonde hair and belts out ‘She Bop’. From then it’s sheer entertainment with quirky dance moves non-stop hits and some wonderful quips about dulcimers and playing ‘his’ songs in her early career. Cyndi is particularly talkative and utterly charming and of course we get ‘True Colors’ and ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ but for me the highlight is the treatment of ‘I Drove All Night’ and the little snatch of Rod’s ‘Sailing’ in ‘Sally’s Pigeons.’

The anticipation in the room for Rod after Cyndi Lauper closed her set on such a high was palpable, you could almost cut the anticipation with a knife. Coming on to the strains of ‘Scotland the Brave’ Rod’s band which consists of an almost equal split of male and female musicians and backing singers makes their way on stage. And if there was a better way to open the show than by a cover of Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted to Love’ I’d like to hear it! It’s a great rendition that sets the party atmosphere for the evening with violins on fire and Rod swaggering with hand on hips through the song.

Resplendently dressed in a silver suit and zebra shirt and clutching the microphone like an old friend Rod had us from the off. There’s few that command a stage like Rod and even fewer who can pull from such a rich catalogue. The band is looking smart too dressed in white with thin ties and smart suits that make them look like those bands of yesteryear who played Rhythm and Blues.

rod stewart tour perth

For me an early highlight comes with a wonderful rendition of Faces ‘Ooh La La’ that steals the show and interestingly was I think the only Faces song that neither Rod nor Ronnie Lane sung, instead having the lead vocal by Ronne Wood, who of course went on to play with that little band The Rolling Stones. It’s a wonderfully wry cautionary tale and shows that gentle sense of humour on a number of levels, considering its subject matter and provenance.

Any Rod Stewart concert is of course part belting out the hits and part musical education and there’s a real love in the way he tackles some of the cover’s he’s better known for. Before ‘Some Guys Have All the Luck’ the old Persuaders song Rod made his own back in 1984 a decade after the original hit the charts we dig even deeper back to Sam Cooke’s immortal ‘Having a Party’ it’s such great fun!

Motown surfaces re-shod with Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston’s ‘It Takes Two’ with one of his remarkable backing singers. “It’s a sweat box tonight, I’m working for you” Rod tells us catching a breath before asking us if we fancy a little Blues as he belts out some Muddy Waters. The band are simply wonderful and Rod teases us asking if it any good?

Perth might be nice and litter free but “You can’t buy a Starbucks!” Rod jokes as we skip forward a few decades. It’s great to hear the 80’s classics, and we’re treated to ‘Forever Young’ next which is one of tonight’s set pieces. The band is absolutely on point and mid-way Rod leaves the stage and Scottish dancing ensues followed by a spirited instrumental segment. Rod is back to finish the song – it’s a wonderful take and the first of a number of set pieces that allow Rod to change costumes and put his feet up!

rod stewart tour perth

There are not many shows when you can pace some of your biggest hits mid-set but that’s the beauty of Stewart’s catalogue and let’s face it for me he could sing the phone book and make it memorable. The arena near erupts for Rod’s famous Cat Stevens cover ‘The First Cut Is the Deepest’ which is surely one of the defining songs of his career, but to follow that up with the immortal ‘Maggie May’ is more than enough to warrant the ticket price and we’re only mid-way. The amount of love in the room after that is immeasurable!

But on a night that threatens to be one of the very best shows of an already great year why not just throw in some wonderful Etta James to underline that credential. ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ is simply sublime and Rod regales us of the story of he and Ronnie Wood and a couple of bottles of Red nailing the song on the second take. It’s the sort of song that makes you realise how wonderful this catalogue really is and the stage is transformed from the colourful spectacle to a dimly lit club to transform the mood. He gives a shout out to Christine McVie “They’re dropping like flies” he says shaking his heard before adding “I’m not feeling too well myself”!

We’re then invited to drift between decades first to the 80’s for ‘Young Turks’ from Rod’s 1981 album of the same name, in the intro you can see a huge smile on his face before he announces that his beloved Celtic are 2-0 up (against Hearts as it happens). It’s another wonderful version with a mid-section drum battle and a wonderful touch of harp, where Rod slips off stage again and returns to close wearing the blue shirt and yellow jacket “The colours of the Ukraine flag” he tells us.

‘Rhythm of my Heart’ from 1991’s ‘Rhythm of my Heart’ become another set piece “All wars are disgusting” Rod muses as visuals from Ukraine fil the screens. Rod has been anti-war of course since his youth so it’s no surprise he’s taking the stance tonight. And he’s off again as the now animal print wearing backing singers give us a wonderful interlude with Chaka’s Khan’s classic ‘I’m Every Woman’ before we are thrust into the magnificent maelstrom of  The Temptations ‘People Get Ready’ that Rod recorded with the sadly missed Jeff Beck. It’s breath-taking and set against a backdrop of US Civil Rights images a real reminder at how little we’ve done over the decades to come together.

rod stewart tour perth

With the singers seated across the front of the stage we’re treated to a wonderful version of ‘I Don’t Want to Talk About It’ which is one of the first songs I can remember falling completely in love with – a song that made me realise the importance of music in my life. And still seated across the stage Rod reminds us that we’re listening to “Real music” before the Celtic badge and images of their new Aussie manager accompany ‘You’re In My Heart’.

Rod Stewart has never been an artist you can pin down, and he has an armoury that is almost immeasurable but also a warmth and persuasiveness that allows him to move from savvy sing-along Pop to blissful poignancy in a moment. It’s all so effortless too, and with a simple “We’ll have one more slow one before we pick up the pace” he’s into that sublime love song ‘Have I Told You Lately’ that sees the guitarist bending those strings and the mandolin returning after an earlier runout with ‘Maggie’.

If you thought the surprises or the Soul was over then an inspired cover of LaBell’s iconic ‘Lady Marmalade’ proves you wrong. It’s a final showpiece and last breather for Rod before a tribute to Olivia Newton John and then that unmistakable bassline… There is of course only one way out of this party and it’s with Rod’s 70’s classic ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ it’s a song that saw Rod embrace disco and indulge in a little self-deprecating humour. There’s a wave and Rod is off.

Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long till he returns for an encore of ‘Sailing’ The Sutherland Brothers Band song he made his own in the 70’s. And with that the first night of the Australian Tour is dine and dusted.

You could build a setlist from the songs that Rod didn’t play tonight that would put most artists to shame and that is the real beauty of a night like this – you never know quite what you will get but you always leave more than satisfied.

Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper Open Australian Tour In Perth

by Paul Cashmere on March 13, 2023

Rod Stewart’s long overdue Australian tour has final started. The tour originally planned for 2020 and the postponed and then postponed again due to Covid, has finally opened with the first show in Perth.

Rod’s set spans back to his 1971 and 1972 classic albums ‘Every Picture Tells A Story’ and ‘Never A Dull Moment’ with 1973’s final Faces album ‘Ooh La La’ also getting a nod with the title track.

The Rod Stewart setlist is mainly sticking with the classic years through to 1991’s ‘Vagabond Heart’ amd 1993’s live ‘Unplugged … and Seated”. He did dabble into 2018’s ‘Blood Red Roses’ with the blues over of ‘Rollin’ and Tumblin’ but mostly ignores the American Songbook albums and studio albums from 1995 to 2021 with the exception of the 2018 moment.

Cyndi Lauper has the shorter set but fills it with the hits you know centred around her first (and biggest) album ‘She’s So Unusual’. You are never more than one song away from a song you know in the Cyndi setlist.

Rod Stewart review: The Hits Australian Tour at RAC Arena with special guests Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens

Headshot of Laura Newell

Not afraid of getting political, both Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper championed causes close to their hearts as they took to the stage in Perth on Saturday night.

While ‘80s mega-star Lauper dedicated a somewhat lower-energy version of her seminal hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun to the cause of female human rights, Sir Rod opined that the “most important part” of his show was a touching tribute to the people of Ukraine.

Rod Stewart & Cyndi Lauper Announce 2023 Australian Tour

Eight massive shows across the country!

rod stewart tour perth

Sir Rod Stewart will return to Australia next year alongside Cyndi Lauper for a string of dates across the country.

The two legends, joined by Noiseworks singer Jon Stevens , will touch down in Perth on March 11, before venturing to Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide, Mount Cotton, Sydney, Hunter Valley and Centennial Vineyards.

It’s been confirmed that Stewart will perform a “massive two-hour set from his vast catalogue of hits”, including tracks from 2021’s The Tears Of Hercules , while Lauper delivers “all of her most loved songs” across an hour set.

Back in January, Stewart was forced to axe his long-awaited return to the country due to “the ongoing surge of Covid in Australia and the reimposition of entertainment venue capacity limits in several states”.

The tour was first announced back in 2019 for October of 2020, but was postponed to March of this year before being cancelled completely.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

At the time, he shared: “My dear friends, once again I feel we’ve all been cheated by this evil disease, so it is with great regret that I announce my shows for 2022 have had to be cancelled.

“My thoughts are with all your families at this difficult time as we come out of the joyous and hopefully safe holiday season and I look forward to returning to Australia as soon as the health situation permits.

“I’m absolutely gutted with disappointment and when I do eventually get there we‘ll have the party to end all parties. Guaranteed!

About Rod Stewart

Sir Roderick David Stewart CBE (born 10 January 1945) is a British rock and pop singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, he is of Scottish and English ancestry. With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 250 million records worldwide. He has had 10 number-one albums and 31 top ten singles in the UK, six of which reached number one. Stewart has had 16 top ten singles in the US, with four reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. He was knighted in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to music and charity.

Stewart's music career began in 1962 when he took up busking with a harmonica. In 1963, he joined The Dimensions as a harmonica player and vocalist. In 1964, Stewart joined Long John Baldry and the All Stars before moving to the Jeff Beck Group in 1967. Joining Faces in 1969, he also maintained a solo career releasing his debut album that year. Stewart's early albums were a fusion of rock, folk music, soul music, and R&B. His third album, 1971's Every Picture Tells a Story, was his breakthrough, topping the charts in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, as did its ballad "Maggie May". His 1972 follow-up album, Never a Dull Moment, also reached number one in the UK and Australia, while going top three in the US and Canada. Its single, "You Wear It Well", topped the chart in the UK and was a moderate hit elsewhere.

After Stewart had a handful more UK top ten hits, the Faces broke up in 1975. Stewart's next few hit singles were ballads with "Sailing", off the 1975 UK and Australian number-one album, Atlantic Crossing, becoming a hit in the UK and the Netherlands (number one), Germany (number four) and other countries, but barely charting in North America. A Night on the Town (1976), his fifth straight chart-topper in the UK, began a three-album run of going number one or top three in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia with each release. That album's "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" spent almost two months at number one in the US and Canada, and made the top five in other countries. Foot Loose & Fancy Free (1977) contained the hit "You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" as well as the rocker "Hot Legs". Blondes Have More Fun (1978) and its disco-tinged "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" both went to number one in Canada, Australia and the US, with "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" also hitting number one in the UK and the top ten in other countries. Stewart's albums regularly hit the upper rungs of the charts in the Netherlands throughout the 70s and in Sweden from 1975 onward.

After a disco and new wave period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Stewart's music turned to a soft rock/middle-of-the-road style, with most of his albums reaching the top ten in the UK, Germany and Sweden, but faring less well in the US. The single "Rhythm of My Heart" was a top five hit in the UK, US and other countries, with its source album, 1991's Vagabond Heart, becoming, at number ten in the US and number two in the UK, his highest-charting album in a decade. In 1993, he collaborated with Bryan Adams and Sting on the power ballad "All for Love", which went to number one in many countries. In the early 2000s, he released a series of successful albums interpreting the Great American Songbook.

In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him the 17th most successful artist on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists". A Grammy and Brit Award recipient, he was voted at No. 33 in Q Magazine's list of the Top 100 Greatest Singers of all time. As a solo artist, Stewart was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and he was inducted a second time into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Faces.

In 2016 he was knighted by Prince William at Buckingham Palace for his services to music and charity.

Sir Rod Stewart’s rekindled love of songwriting grows stronger on his 31st studio album, THE TEARS OF HERCULES. It is Stewart’s fourth new album of original songs since 2013 when he reconnected with his songwriting muse to record Time, the chart-topping album which entered the Top 10 in the US and ten countries worldwide, including #1 in the U.K., where it’s been certified double platinum. For his latest, Stewart wrote nine of the album’s 12 songs, including the first single, “One More Time”.

Her iconic voice, influential punk glamor, and infectious live shows have catapulted her to stardom. Lauper won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist with her first album, She’s So Unusual , and became the first woman in history to have four top-five singles from a debut album. Since then, Lauper has released ten additional studio albums, yielding timeless classics like “Time After Time” and “True Colors,” and the anthemic “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” She has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, seven American Video Awards, and 18 MTV Awards. In 2013, Cyndi Lauper became the first solo woman to win Best Original Score (music and lyrics) for Kinky Boots .

He then fronted INXS for more than three years, which included a gig at the Sydney Olympics’ closing ceremony. Stevens grew up listening to Sir Rod Stewart, and his 2011 album  Testify!  included a cover of  Open To Ideas , co-written by Rod Stewart and one of the last songs the Faces recorded.

Live Review: Rod Stewart

The Hits! Australian Tour 2023 with Cyndi Lauper at the RAC Arena Perth on 11 March 2023.

Review by Sheldon Ang

Photography by Sheldon Ang Photography

He appears as suave as a rhythm and blues superstar, and oozing the vitality of the front row revellers. The gentleman, donned in showbiz-grade suit and skinny pants, seems to own a wardrobe the size of Imelda Marcos’ 1987 shoe collection. But his hairdo is stuck in a time warp, unhindered since the days when My Three Sons was aired in black and white. Nevertheless, the debonaire wriggled on stage, slithering and sliding, triggering a vocal tremor across the arena from the fanfare of fifteen thousand. He moonwalks vicariously, leaning backwards and forwards, arms swinging and hips gyrating, then revealing the inner garment of his jacket without a reason – but the crowd are smitten by every physical personification of his infectious charm.

The singer may be the main act, but the stage is beatified by a bevy of ladies, like the assistants to a Copperfield show. But tonight they’re multitasking as guitarists, harpist, violinists, dancers and backup vocalists – some possessing the soaring vocals of Christina Aguilera.

As the singer jiggles on stage, he asked the same question for forty five years through his distinctive raspy vocals, Da Ya Think I’m Sexy ?

Close to becoming an octogenarian, Rod Stewart is among the most successful music artists of all time, selling over a quarter of a billion records, including ten number one albums in the UK. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. According to the James Brown, Stewart is “the best white soul singer”, and from tonight’s performance, The I Got You (I Feel Good) singer is on the money.

The Englishman sparked the setlist with Addicted to Love , a Robert Palmer cover. It may be surprising to some casual listeners that Rod opened a setlist with a cover, but those who have been in existence since Rod’s inception to fame would know that many of his hits are covers, elevating the originals to soaring heights.

The stage presence and antics were engrained from song one; Stewart was surrounded by a bevy of ladies with guitars and keytar, like in the scene of the video of Robert Palmer. He trotted the stage and engaged with the crowd early in the night, occasionally pointing at the fans and chatting with the swaying, glowy musicians. It was a fitting spark to the night – as arguably the title resonated with the colourful chapters of Stewart’s life.

Moreover, it has been well document that the Order of the British Empire recipient has lived a fruitful life, sipping into the luxuries that money and fame can and can’t buy such as fast cars and mansions on a private island, and of course – beautiful women.  So one might wonder if Some Guys Have All the Luck was a self-extolment – as if Rod was singing about himself. If the deliberate stance and winks were giveaways, it appeared the tease was genuine.

The night was fused with classics, the sing alongs and the anthems of our lives, with Stewart leading a karaoke mass of fifteen thousand, notably during It Takes Two, a track he recorded with Tina Turner.

“I did this song a while back with the wonderful Tina Turner. We did a Pepsi Cola commercial together, and we shared a suite together – but nothing happened! We did have a joining room – but nothing happened…and she’d eat me alive anyway.”

Maggie May literally became the karaoke song with lyrics displayed on the big screen. Released in 1971, it’s a track written about a boy who fell for an older woman – and yes it was based on Stewart’s first time. The track may be fifty years old, but the vibe of infatuation and vulnerability were still lingering in his performance.

The night had many facets of entertainment – Forever Young became an Irish dance party as the backup vocalists and musicians became the dancers, who then strutted their talent in a scene reminiscent to Michael Flatley’s Riverdance. Rhythm of the Heart was an anti war stance, a dedication to Ukraine and the heroism of the people and their fearless leader Zelensky, while the singer wore the colours of the Ukrainian flag for this set. Images of the American civil rights movement were shown on the screen as Stewart sang People Get Ready .

“It feels very much home here. I tell you why, the streets are nice and clean, but you can’t buy f*cking starbucks, otherwise we love it here. Anyhow, you’ll love this one…”

Harpist Julia Thornton then gracefully weaved the strings at the intro, evoking a transcendental experience through the mellifluous movement of her arms, manifesting the enchanting sounds, as the hypnotised crowd were mesmerised, lending their appreciation with a rapturous applause, before the guitarist cut into one of the most recognisable riffs in First Cut Is The Deepest . Hysteria sparked, while reopening old wounds for some.

The acoustic set…

The acoustic set was the favourite for many. Sitting in a row with his musicians,  I don’t Want to Talk About It was the first track performed among a series of poignant nostalgia, ballads of the broken souls and love struck adolescence. The sax was breathtaking. It may have been decades since Rod’s heart was broken, but he sang like a devastated man who doesn’t want to talk about his pain, asking his lover to listen to his heart instead.

Written by Stewart,  Tonight’s The Night was the next track on the acoustic set. It was highly controversial at the time of release. Nevertheless, the 46 year old single is the most successful song for Rod Stewart, becoming the 19 th most popular song in the history of the Billboard. The chorus was sung by almost every individual of the fifteen thousand, with conviction – and a mission in mind. Unlike the official video, eye-to-eye contact with a teenage girl was replaced by public serenading with the mainly matured crowd. Times have changed. Yet, the Englishman performed the song with the eagerness of a love struck and amorous young man.

rod stewart tour perth

“One more song and we’ll pick up the tempo and any lose change on the stage.”   Have I Told You Lately (that I love You) was the last set of the acoustic chapter of end-to-end bangers. The serenading was requited by a sea of mobile lights dotting the arena.

The night ended with Da Ya Think I’m Sexy which became the party anthem of the night , followed by the soothing Sailing.

By the end of this shift, fans had come to realise about the cathartic vibe of Rod’s performance; the soothing and comforting essence he manifests through the raspy delivery. He may reopen old wounds – but he patches the heartbreak by the virtue of his lyrical propagation. At seventy eight years of age, Rod Stewart could still hit those high registers while maintaining the honesty and conviction of the storyline.

rod stewart tour perth

Cyndi Lauper

Without a doubt, Cyndi Lauper is a super sub if she’s not the featured act. Afterall, she’s able to command an arena crowd of her own, thus becoming one of the most anticipated supporting acts in recent times. The American was as animated as she was in the 80s, opening the setlist with Hole in My Heart . With an hour allocated, she was given a generous slot, much to the joy of the fans. Naturally, the likes of Time After Time , True Colour and Girls Just Want to Have Fun were part of the bangers list. Sally’s Pigeons was a mesmerising take with the big screen showing images of the pigeon with the lyrics, ensuring the crowd was fully engaging. Many had come to watch Cyndi – who was the epitome of girl power of the 80’s and influenced the subsequent generation through multiple journeys. Fast forward to 2023, the essence of her powerful projection and the trademark high registers remained in tact.

Rod Stewart announces 2023 Australian tour with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens

It comes after he cancelled an Australian tour back in January

Rod Stewart (Jeremy Chan via Getty Images) + Cyndi Lauper (Lester Cohen via Getty Images) + Jon Stevens (Dan Peled via Getty Images)

Rod Stewart has announced an eight-date Australian tour for next March, all dates of which will see him joined by Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens .

It’s the fourth time Stewart has slated the run – dubbed ‘The Hits! Tour’ – for Australian audiences; he first announced his return Down Under back in October of 2019, booking it in for the following March. The tour was then postponed to October 2020 on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that August, it was moved to the first half of 2022 . At the start of this year, the tour was officially cancelled altogether.

Nevertheless, the new dates will cover all of the cities Stewart had been booked to perform in; the run will kick off in Perth on Saturday March 11, when he, Lauper and Stevens take to the stage at RAC Arena. They’ll head to Melbourne next, playing Rod Laver Arena the following Tuesday (March 14), before moving on to play shows Geelong, Adelaide, Mount Cotton and Sydney. To wrap up, they’ll deliver winery shows in the Hunter Valley and Bowral.

Tickets for all eight of the shows go on sale at 1pm local time this Thursday (November 17), with pre-sales running from 11am tomorrow (November 15). Find tickets here for the shows in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, and here for everywhere else.

Stewart’s last Australian tour went down in 2015, when he was touring off the back of his 28th album, ‘Time’. He’s since released three more albums: ‘Another Country’ that same year, ‘Blood Red Roses’ in 2018, and ‘The Tears Of Hercules’ in 2021.

Meanwhile, last month saw Stewart rent a home for a family of seven Ukrainian refugees . The veteran pop rocker and his wife, Penny Lancaster, have claimed that they’ll pay the family’s rent and bills for at least a year; in an interview with the Daily Mirror , he said he believes it’s his duty to help others after he was knighted six years ago.

Earlier in the year, he surprised drinkers at a pub in Glasgow by stepping behind the bar to serve pints.
