UAE visa on arrival

Preapproved uae visas, prearranged uae visas, sponsoring someone to visit the uae, contact information, 30-day visit eligibility.

If you are a passport holder of the below country or territory, no advance visa arrangements are required to visit the UAE. Simply disembark your flight at Dubai International and proceed to immigration, where your passport will be stamped with a 30-day visit visa free of charge.

90-day visit eligibility

If you are a passport holder of one of the below countries or territories, your passport will be stamped with a multiple entry 90-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 90 days in total. Citizens of the below European countries are also entitled to apply for a pre-arranged visit visa if their 90-day visa on arrival has been fully utilized.

180-day visit eligibility

If you hold a Mexican passport you’re eligible for a multiple entry 180-day visit visa that's valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and for a stay of 180 days in total.

Dubai immigration procedures

As an added security measure, Immigration Authorities at Dubai International are now conducting random eye screening for visitors to Dubai.

Visitors asked to proceed for eye screening are required to present a hard copy of their visa or a printed version of the visa number confirmation page at the screening counter. If you do not have a copy with you, a charge of AED 30 per copy applies - payable only in AED.

Before you travel to the UAE, please check your visa requirements and make sure you have a valid visa if needed, or if your passport needs to be valid for 6 months. New visit entry permit to the UAE for Indian nationals

From 7 January 2024, eligible Indian nationals with a normal passport valid for a minimum of six months can obtain a single entry, 14-day visa on arrival. A fee of USD 63 applies.

The online visa application service is available for residents and nationals of many countries around the world. Find out if you can apply for a UAE visa. This service is only available to passengers with a confirmed Emirates booking where an Emirates ticket has already been issued and the flight itinerary already includes the desired time in Dubai. Statistics released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) have revealed that more than 8 million tourists visited the city in the first half of 2019. Documents Required to Apply for a Visit Visa to Dubai

As a Pakistani passport holder, you will need to submit the following documents along with your visa application:

• A copy of your CNIC
• A copy of the first two pages of your passport
• Two passport-sized photographs (White Background)
• Bank Statement, if you’re travelling for the first time
• A valid return ticket to Dubai for your travel dates

Your passport must be valid for 6 months at the time of application. All visa fees are non-refundable. 

Processing Time for a Tourist Visa to Dubai

While most visa applications for Dubai are processed within 4 to 5 days, it is recommended that you apply at least a week before your travel plans to avoid any unforeseen delays.

Reaching Dubai from Pakistan

Emirates, Etihad, and Fly Dubai are the three major carriers of the UAE, offering their services at different price points for you to travel to Dubai from Pakistan. From luxurious to bare-bones, these airlines cover every base, with Fly Dubai being the cheapest option. Between the other two, Emirates is headquartered in Dubai, while the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi is home to Etihad. So, if you choose Etihad, you’ll need to plan for a ride to get to Dubai from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Best Time to Visit Dubai

The United Arab Emirates has a desert climate where summer days are hot and humid, while winter nights are pretty cold. Accordingly, people prefer to visit the region in the colder months of the year, between November to February. Considering the influx of visitors during this time, Dubai hosts a grand shopping festival called Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) and the Global Village during these months.

Cost of Flying from Pakistan to Dubai

Since December is the peak tourist season, you’ll need to buy tickets well in advance to enjoy cheaper fares while visiting Dubai. Otherwise, it can cost you anywhere between PKR 50,000 and PKR 1 lakh for a round-trip ticket. Prices do tend to go down in the latter half of January, moving even below the PKR 50,000 mark. This could be an incentive for you to delay your holidays for a month or so.

Currency of Dubai

Dubai uses Dirhams (AED) as its primary currency, although US Dollars (USD) and British Pounds (GBP) are acceptable at the airport until you can find a local currency exchange. As of November 2019:

Commuting within Dubai

Dubai has an amazing public transport system in place. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) manages the Metro, Bus, and Water Bus, and you easily pay to ride all of these with the Nol Card. The most basic Nol cards are silver and gold in colour and work like e-purses. The silver one is the most easily available and is ideal for tourists. It costs AED 25, with AED 19 being the useable credit. Once you have a Nol card in hand, you can travel throughout the city using the Metro and its interconnecting RTA buses. The Nol card is easily rechargeable with additional credit at Metro stations and at some bus stations as well.

If you want to travel to an area that is not accessible by public transport, you can always take a taxi to your destination. Please note that a base rate of AED 12 is applicable for all taxi journeys within the city, while a base rate of AED 25 is added to your trip to and from the airport. Also, app-powered ride-hailing services are readily available throughout Dubai.

Famous for being one of the largest shopping malls in the world, The Dubai Mall is a must-visit for everyone coming to Dubai with the specific purpose of going on a shopping spree. More than 6,000 lights illuminate the fountain at night, and the show is a must-watch for every tourist visiting Dubai. While shows are held regularly everyday, special presentations, such as a tribute to Pakistan on its Independence Day, a tribute to Shahrukh Khan on his birthday, and other special shows are choreographed by the team in charge of the shows as per the occasion.

If you’re looking for places to visit in Dubai with your kids, consider taking a trip to the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, located on the ground floor of The Dubai Mall. Wander through this traditionally set Arabian market if it’s your first trip to Dubai from Pakistan. This ‘souk’ or ‘market’ will take you back to the time of the ‘Arabian Nights’ with vintage shops and streets, selling high-end clothing and apparel. Spices, jewellery, and carved ornaments can also be bought in the narrow winding streets of this scenic marketplace. You can even take a ride in an ‘abra’—a traditional Emirati boat—on the water canals in the area. The restaurants operational here serve some of the finest cuisines near the water’s edge.

One of the poshest localities in Dubai, JBR, is located near Dubai Marina. It is home to The Walk, which is an outdoor mall with shops and outlets of high-end brands and fine-dining restaurants. It also hosts pop-up markets along the street. You can have a meal in the sky at the Flying Cup here, or head to AquaFun Dubai, which is the world’s largest inflatable waterpark.

Since Dubai is a city built amidst a desert, the region is generally hot and humid all year round. Thus, water activities are fairly popular and attract large crowds. Two of the best waterparks in the city are Wild Wadi Waterpark and Aquaventure Waterpark. Wild Wadi is located near Jumeirah Beach Hotel, while Aquaventure is situated near the Atlantis, The Palm. Both parks offer a range of rides and a full day of fun in the sun for the family, and you can choose your destination based on your preference.

Zip across Dubai Marina at speeds of 80 kilometres per hour with a safety harness keeping you protected as the wind rushes past you. This is an experience that thrill-seekers should not miss! Known as XLine, the airborne trip can be undertaken solo or with your favourite travel companion.

While Jumeirah Mosque is certainly not the largest in the UAE, it is considered a significant landmark of Dubai, especially for visitors who love to visit historical or religious sites. Dubai Parks and Resorts is the largest theme park in the Middle East and contains three parks within its premises. There’s LEGOLAND Dubai with Lego-themed rides and waterpark; Motiongate Dubai, which is dedicated to all things Hollywood; and Bollywood Park Dubai, which targets fans of Indian movies and is the first Bollywood-themed park in the world.

Built within the Al-Fahidi Fort that used to defend Dubai Creek in the 1700s, the Dubai Museum is the best place to learn more about the history and culture of the region. Extensive renovation of the fort has given it its current appearance, while the interior halls contain displays of weaponry, musical instruments, archaeological finds from a bygone era, and much more.

Dubai Creek is a saltwater channel that separates the old and modern parts of Dubai. On one side is Deira, the older district, and on the other is Bur Dubai, a posh and contemporary residential hub. There are several stations that you can choose from to book a cruise as per your preference.

Crossing the Dubai Creek via a boat or by road can take you to Deira, where a number of souks await you. This is the best place to shop for souvenirs in Dubai and to buy gifts for your loved ones. Two of the traditional markets located here include the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk, which are worth a visit even if you are not in the mood to purchase gold or spices.

Famous as the world’s largest picture frame, the Dubai Frame boasts two 150-metre high columns, connected to each other at the top with a 93-metre long glass bridge. The experience of looking down 150 metres from the glass floor is not for the faint-hearted, but the views of Dubai from Zabeel Park are undoubtedly worth it. The mezzanine floor hosts a Future Dubai gallery, which is an immersive experience showcasing how Dubai will evolve and take on a new look in the near future.

Named appropriately as ‘ Miracle Garden ’, it is the world’s largest natural flower garden amidst the desert oasis of Dubai. The park is home to nearly 50 million species of flowers, covering 72,000 square metres in colourful blooms. Complete your trip to Dubai with a day at the IMG Worlds of Adventure. The largest indoor theme park in the world is home to four themed worlds. One zone is modelled after the famous TV Channel, Cartoon Network, while the second one caters to MARVEL fans. The third zone is the Lost Valley – Dinosaur Adventure, while the fourth zone is IMG Boulevard. Each zone offers rides and lots of adventure for enthusiasts.

UAE Imposes Visa Ban on Pakistani Travellers from 24 Cities: Full List Here

According to a WION report, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended the visa ban on Pakistani visitors, which previously applied to 22 cities, has now been extended to 24 cities.

Adnan Paracha, the Spokesperson for Pakistan Overseas Employment Association (POEA) said;

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa.”

Reason Behind Visa Ban

According to Paracha, the visa ban issue is a result of fraud being carried out by travel agents.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” he stated.

“Later, when these people are unable to find employment, they begin to beg in the streets of UAE and are expelled by the government,” Paracha added,

Visa Ban on Pakistani Travellers from 24 Cities

According to the report, the UAE has imposed a visa ban on the cities of Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram Agency, Khoshab, Para Chinar, Sheikhupura, Abbottabad, Kasur, Larkana, Muzaffargarh, Nawabshah, Quetta, Sargodha, Attock, Chakwal, Bajaur Agency, Hangu, Kohat, Mohmand Agency, Sukkur, Skard.

Previously, the UAE imposed a visa ban on 12 cities in Pakistan. Later, the list was expanded to 22, then to 24.

The Pakistan Foreign Office, on the other hand, denied reports of the UAE’s ban on Pakistanis.

Covering up Adnan Paracha’s claim, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that visas for Pakistanis were not blacklisted or banned by the UAE.

“We have seen the reports and can confirm that the UAE has no such ban on issuing visas to Pakistani citizens,” Baloch said.

The UAE also refused to accept any visa ban imposed on Pakistani travellers.

Pakistan Embassy in the UAE on Tuesday issued an advisory, asking its nationals who are coming to the UAE on visit visa and intend to travel to another country to obtain third country’s visa from Pakistan before departing for the UAE.

“If travelling to another country from the UAE, a visa must be obtained before departing Pakistan. Visas for third countries are issued to legal residents with valid Emirates Identity Cards holders only,” said the advisory.

Many Pakistani citizens fly to the UAE to meet their families and friends and then intend to apply for third-country visa in the UAE. But foreign missions of other countries in the UAE require Emirates ID to process visas, hence, they would not be able to apply for a visa by the third country.

Currently, there are around 1.7 million Pakistani nationals living in the United Arab Emirates, accounting for nearly 18 per cent of the UAE’s 9.6 million population. Pakistani nationals are the second largest expat diaspora in the Emirates.

Sajid Hussain Turi, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development, earlier on Monday said 600,000 Pakistanis have gone abroad for jobs since April 2022.

“The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development is working hard to find overseas employment opportunities for the Pakistani workforce. People are requested not to fall prey to human trafficking to waste their precious lives by adopting illegal methods,” said Turi.

Exit before visa expiry

Taking to Twitter, Pakistan Embassy in the UAE asked its citizens flying to the country to obtain a “proper visa well in time before departure”.

It advised all Pakistani nationals must exit the UAE before the expiry of their visa to avoid fines.

Last week, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai held the first phase of an awareness campaign at Deira City Centre to help people with their visa-related issues. A large number of people have turned up at the City Centre to seek guidance from the immigration officials.

The details for the second phase of the GDRFA’s awareness will be announced soon.

“All Pakistani nationals travelling to UAE are advised to obtain the proper visa well in time before departure to UAE. All must exit UAE before the expiry of Visa to avoid fines/penalties,” the embassy said on Tuesday.

Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended its visa ban on visitors from Pakistan. The ban has now been extended to 24 cities from the previous figure of 22.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” Adnan Paracha, spokesperson of Pakistan Overseas Employment Association (POEA), was quoted as saying by 24NewsHD.TV.

Paracha informed that fraud by travel agents is responsible for this issue.

“The UAE imposed restrictions on the people of these cities because of the misstatement of the agents who sent them on visit visas but told them that they were being sent on a work visa,” he claimed.

“Later, when these people are unable to find employment, they begin to beg in the streets of UAE and are expelled by the government,” he added.

The Pakistani cities on which the UAE has imposed a visa ban are: Abbottabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Quetta, Khoshab, Muzaffargarh, Sargodha, Attock, Dera Ismail Khan, Kasur, Kurram Agency, Nawabshah, Sheikhupura, Bajaur Agency, Hangu, Kohat, Larkana, Para Chinar, Skardu, Chakwal, Hunza, Kotli, Mehmand Agency, Sahiwal, and Sukkur.

Earlier, the UAE had imposed a visa ban on 12 cities of Pakistan. The list was later increased to 22, and now stands at 24.

However, the Pakistan Foreign Office has denied that the UAE has imposed a ban on Pakistanis.

UAE residents can now apply for visa to Pakistan from the comfort of their homes

A dedicated website for the service went live on January 31 as part of a global rollout

Dubai: UAE residents have been urged to avail of a new online visa application facility for Pakistan as part of a global rollout by the Pakistan government.

The system went live on January 31 for the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai, as part of a worldwide rollout.

It means residents no longer need to visit the Pakistani missions in the UAE to apply for a visa to Pakistan. Instead, they can access the dedicated website, visa.nadra.gov.pk, for all visa application-related matters. A step-by-step guide on the website is available to make the process easy.

Ahmed Amjad Ali, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai, said: “The online visa application system makes it even more convenient for applicants, who can fulfil their formalities now from the comfort of their homes. Also, as part of SOPs [standard operating procedures] related to COVID-19, the online move does away with the need to gather in person at the consulate premises.”

Still, if someone is not able to utilise the online system, the consulate staff members are available to facilitate them and guide them, the consul general added.

The latest development follows a similar online service for Pakistani passport applications introduced earlier. There is also a plan to launch in the near future a mobile app for all services offered by the consulate.

What Pakistan Can Learn From UAE's New Tourism Strategy

Pakistan's underutilised tourism industry could benefit from public-private partnerships, better marketing and a comprehensive tourism strategy with dedicated implementation.

Pakistan boasts a rich and diverse topography. From being home to five of the world's 14 mountains taller than eight-thousander metres, all the way to pristine, sandy beaches and plains rich with millennia-old history, make it an ideal destination for mountaineers, adventure seekers and travellers of nearly every kind. The country's northern region is renowned for its lush green meadows and abundant rainfall. The extensive southern plains of Pakistan are not only significant historically but are often referred to as the cradle of civilisation, with Mohenjo-daro standing as a testament to its rich heritage. Cities like Lahore, with a history spanning over 2,000 years, offer a blend of contemporary and historical experiences. Additionally, Pakistan is home to significant religious sites for all major regional religions.

Despite this immense potential, Pakistan's tourism industry remains underutilised, with historical and cultural assets rapidly disappearing. The World Economic Forum (WEF) has ranked Pakistan 101st out of 119 countries in its Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) for 2024. Currently, the country earns approximately $1.3 billion in foreign exchange revenue from tourism. When you compare this with a place like India, which earns more than $190 billion per year from tourism as per data from 2022 , it indicates that there exists significant room for growth and improvement. Sure, the comparison is skewed due to India's larger size, population, and various socio-political factors, but it does not overshadow Pakistan's potential when it comes to tourism.

There are several fundamental failures which hinder the country's journey to a tourism boom, such as the lack of resources and the need for enhanced security and safety for tourists. A crucial factor Pakistan must overcome is understanding tourists' psychology and needs. Tourists seek more than just lush green mountains or historical buildings and architecture. They desire a complete experience where they feel safe, relaxed and fully enjoy themselves without being judged at every corner. Otherwise, only a few mountaineers and archaeologists might visit for professional reasons. Here, the common trait obviously is that most of these visitors spend most of their visit in remote areas isolated from the average Pakistani or the drama dominating the daily news cycle.

Gilgit-Baltistan Agitated Over Transfer of Tourism Sites

Even though successive governments have promised to focus on and uplift Pakistan's tourism industry, the sector remains largely unregulated, leaving tourists at the mercy of local vendors and hotel operators. The 2022 Murree incident speaks volumes in this regard, where innocent lives were lost due to the greed and mismanagement of local authorities and hotel operators. Our tourist sites are not well-maintained, lack basic amenities, and are irresponsibly littered, further tarnishing the country's appeal to tourists. Haphazard and excessive commercialisation of popular sites like Murree, Swat, Babusar Top and Gilgit-Baltistan have disrupted their natural beauty and ecosystems.

It is worth mentioning how the UAE has strategically positioned itself as a major global tourism destination through its comprehensive UAE Tourism Strategy 2031

Furthermore, there is a dearth of recreational activities at our tourist destinations - whether to cater for domestic or foreign tourists. Our underdeveloped coastal areas, except Karachi, lack world-class sporting activities, travel facilities, luxury hotels and resorts. We do not have any quality ice-sports facilities in northern Pakistan. Even those who do arrange entertainment opportunities are often disturbed by local authorities. Our historical sites, which we claim are a major attraction for foreign tourists - especially those belonging to minorities or those located outside the main city centres - are deeply neglected, presenting a rundown outlook and diminishing their tourism value.

On the marketing front, Pakistan has taken no concrete steps, with any efforts often limited to mere lip service. Regular cultural shows featuring dancing, local sporting events, and singing should be held. Pakistan needs to adopt out-of-the-box marketing strategies and reduce its reliance on traditional media to promote tourism. Organising tourism festivals similar to Dubai's annual events, such as the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), could have a positive impact.

To promote tourism and increase its contribution to the GDP, there is a dire need for policy intervention focusing on restructuring the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to involve the private sector. This should include devising a comprehensive execution mechanism with a public-private partnership, emphasising entertainment aspects and granting tourism sites special status to ensure tourists can fully enjoy their visits. It is worth mentioning how the UAE has strategically positioned itself as a major global tourism destination through its comprehensive UAE Tourism Strategy 2031. This plan aims to double the tourism sector's contribution to the GDP, targeting up to $121.5 billion. The strategy is founded on four key principles:

• To strengthen and promote the unified national tourism identity of the UAE to attract international tourists.
• To develop a wide and diversified range of tourism experiences, from luxury and shopping to cultural and adventure tourism.
• To enhance the skills and expertise within the tourism sector.
• To encourage local involvement and investment in tourism.

Pakistan can learn from UAE's tourism strategy and adapt it to our resources and needs. To address infrastructure deficiencies, private investors should be encouraged with lucrative returns to introduce world-class facilities across the country. Instead of focusing solely on the north, efforts should be made to promote unexplored sites in Balochistan and Sindh, which have an extensive list of potential tourist destinations.

Execution is the main hurdle in Pakistan, as policies are often made but not implemented in their true spirit. Therefore, inviting private investment, including foreign investment, along with establishing effective regulatory bodies at the federal and provincial levels—similar to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), whose effectiveness lies in collaboration with the private sector—will strengthen the tourism sector and contribute to nation-building.
