Safari Play Space Offers Super Indoor Fun

You and your kids will love this shiny new space for indoor play.

I haven’t been a mall rat since moving to Seattle a dozen years ago, but within the past year, it’s become increasingly harder to resist the siren song of Southcenter Mall . With the opening of Din Tai Fung , 85°C Bakery Café and now Safari, I can make my kids and my belly happy all in one stop.

Safari Play Space is a family-owned indoor play spot that opened in November. It’s one big open room, centered around a maze-like climbing gym. As you explore the structure, you’ll find all kinds of fun surprises tucked inside:  A swing. A ball pit. A trampoline.  A long, wavy slide.

Admission was $12.99 for my one kid on a recent weekday visit, and with tax, it came out to $14.30. You get a wristband when you enter and it’s good all day, so make the most of it. Go play, then shop and eat, then play some more. Better yet, bring a partner to watch the kids play while you go shop and eat. (Note to self.)

Safari is open late — until 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday — which is great for working parents. And great for kids who need to get the wiggles out before bedtime. Also, being at a mall means tons of free and easy parking — win!

Even as a playspace veteran, I was impressed by Safari.

Safari is extra clean. The staff vacuums and cleans the play structure every night. While we were there, one employee industriously wiped down the check-in counter, Windex-ed the storefront inside and out and tidied up the party room. The two family restrooms at the back of the playspace were spotless. And there’s a wall-mounted Purell dispenser near the entrance. Love, love, love.

The staff was really on top of things during our visit. They were courteous and efficient checking in people, and when they weren’t needed at the desk, they walked around to make sure the kids played nicely. “Can we share? We can’t hit people,” I heard one employee say. Parents minded their kids too, but it’s helpful to have another adult enforce rules.

If you’re familiar with Playdate SEA in South Lake Union, Safari is like a smaller, calmer, more brightly-lit version. A Disney soundtrack played in the background, but it wasn’t too loud, and the mamas holding babies could actually sit and chat. And since Safari is still brand-new (Playdate SEA turns five this year), the padding on the play structure isn’t worn or dirty.

There’s plenty of seating along the walls, so parents can relax while monitoring the kids through the mesh sides of the play structure. There's free wi-fi, too, courtesy of the H&M store next door.

If you forget to bring your own snack, Safari has a small selection of bottled water, juice boxes and crackers for $1.50 each. We spotted a couple of older kids (possibly homeschoolers?) when we visited on a weekday morning, but the scene was mostly tots and their caregivers. The pace does pick up in the afternoon once school lets out, but Safari has a 52-inch height restriction to keep big kids from trampling the little ones.

The upper level of the play structure has a 150-pound limit. It’s supposed to be for kids (and evidently their svelte caregivers), though I did see a few other mamas crawling around with their waddlers.

Babies have their own separate play area, with a big purple caterpillar and foam shapes to stack. While you’re entertaining the little one, you don’t have to worry about older siblings escaping unnoticed. There’s just one exit, by the check-in desk.

My two-year-old usually clings to me in new situations. At Safari, he pushed me away when I tried to help him and told me, “Go take walk.” That’s toddler-speak for, “Mama, this place is awesome!”

The bottom line

Safari is a great place for active indoor play. A little pricey, but in my opinion, you get what you pay for.

Safari Land Family Entertainment Center

My daughter's birthday was superb! Her classmates and friends enjoyed the playground and in the party room. Staff was really nice and helpful. The place is clean and the fridge, cart, microwave is a ++. I was so happy my daughter picked this place for her 7th birthday! I would do it all over again here. Thank you

In the party room

My child and I came here because she wanted to get her wiggles out. Safari is inside the mall, right upstairs near JCPenney. It isn't very large. We came during the weekend and they charge more, I think 13.99 or something. One free parent with a paid child admission. I think because it was so small there weren't a lot of things inside. The playground at factoria Mall feels less compact and has the foam ball shooter gun. Also , I noticed there were areas that are blocked off (maybe in need of repair?) And kids couldn't play in it. Nonetheless, she enjoyed it - after all, she's not paying for it. There are seats for adults to sit in. I was able to find a space. Also, they have a 2hr time limit. I ended up staying just over an hour. They have music and it's relatively clean. The bathrooms aren't too bad either. The disclosure/sign in is simple - just a signature and simple info.

Celebrated a 2nd birthday party for my son. The grandparents had to pay to sit on a bench and watch the kids for 2 hours. This place charged the grandparents over $30 "for admission" to what?!!! a bench !!! Ridiculous! Wont be returning. They initially said adults only have to pay if they are playing then they wouldn't let our adults in who were clearly too old and frail to go in the short crawl spaces. Shiisty minimum wage workers maning the counter. No balls in the ball pit. my kids are young enough where I was accompanying them the whole time and the nets are so short on the ceiling you can't even sit up to go down the slides--have to lay down. benches and foam Lego blocks were worn tf out. Try somewhere else.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a safe and enjoyable time for everyone. The facility was clean, well-maintained, and offered a fantastic range of play areas suitable for different age groups. It was a joy to see our kids having so much fun exploring and playing. A definite go-to spot for a delightful day of play

I brought in our very good friends to this play center, and she made sure everything was Covid friendly and on top of it she was nice towards everyone. Good customer service needs to be praised. She definitely went out of her way in regards to everyone's kids and their safety. The parents who think they can just neglect their kids here, she will call them out. So watch your kid! Play with them. My son loved the watermelon seesaw! Thank you again

Good: The gym was nice, clean, lots of smalls cubbies for shoes (don't over pack there's no space for diaper bags, strollers, etc.) they offer socks and room temp water bottle for $1.50 Lots of nooks with different activities, lots of slides & a small area for children under 2 Bad: To start off the site states $13.99 for 1 child & 1 adult we were charged $16.99 or so. Kinda pricy in my opinion. pretty small location so be prepared for a crowd, on weekends/busy hours. tight for adults to navigate along with their small toddlers. You're given wristbands but they don't verify you're leaving with the kid you came in with. Overall ok for when you're in a pinch and need to kill a few hours but definitely not with the price we paid vs price advertised. Not sure if we'll be back yet.

We have been coming here since it reopened from COVID and we had never had an issue with both parents coming in and only paying for the parent that would be playing with our child. The place only had about 2 - 3 children playing so I would understand if it would be at its busiest (even on the busiest days where you can't even walk because of how many children there is we had never been informed of this 'rule' and never had an issue with dad and mom both coming in with only one paying ) this was honestly a disappointed because it was family day and due to this we were unable to spend it as such. Completely disappointed on how they want to make money off of parents as well

This place is a great place for kids to play and it safe. But unfortunately my daughter got sick when we left the playground, cause the other kids came inside and I heard they are coughing bad. But the staff still let them in to play and the rules are their, they are not follow this guidelines. So my daughter started coughing like 30min when we left. Until now she is having bad cough and wheezing and started to have fever. So my advise is if you enter the playground and their are kids coughing up a storm and they don't have mask on let the staff know or leave and ask the staff for a refund or a credit because obviously they are not doing their job correctly and now my daughter been in the ER twice for this coughing it really annoying to see my kid get sick. Come on do better job. It not the playground fault it your freaking staff.

With the new vaccine card policy, the management needs to put a big sign clearly stated that adults need to be "fully vaccinated" before go in. Today I saw this crazy guy only had one shot and tried to argue with the young worker here. Come on, they are following the rule, they don't make it up. All these younger workers need more support from the management/ owner. The guy keep saying he has to wait 2 weeks for the 2nd shot. Hey, come back in 2 weeks then! You have the whole 9 months to do it but if you choose to only do it now, we can't help. Keep everyone safe please! Your employee did a great job! She deserved a raise!!

I like taking my son places and this is one of his favorites. I had my emotional support animal and my kid with me. My kid really wanted to play. One person was ready to let me pay for the 1/2 hour that was left before they closed. Then the other employee said, no dogs allowed. I told him it was emotional and support has his registration with me. I asked if he was the manager. He initially said no, then he said yes and said his name was Jerry. I informed him that i did not see anything stating no dogs allowed except for a no for or drink sign. My son was crying because he couldn't play. He wouldn't even let me wait outside with the dog while my son played. I had a horrible experience at this place. No resolution was ever attempted by this "manager."

Following their cancellation in 2020, Pokémon GO has announced the return of Safari Zone events, which can be joined either in-person or online. The loss of Safari Zones was one of the many changes Pokémon GO underwent in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lockdowns instituted around the world in response to COVID-19 were a considerable obstacle to Pokémon GO , which is focused on exploring the world and socializing with people. The changes Niantic instituted to allow fans to keep playing from home were well received, and when the company announced its intention to undo those changes, reactions were severe. Following a boycott of the game, Niantic reversed its controversial decision and announced several changes to Pokémon GO , primarily concerning PokéStop distance , in an attempt to satisfy concerned players.

While preserving COVID-conscious gameplay mechanics, Niantic is also planning a return to in-person events. As announced on the Pokémon GO blog, the game's live Safari Zone events are returning this fall. The game has three such events planned, having rescheduled them from 2020. The Liverpool Safari Zone will be held from October 15th to the 17th, the Philadelphia event will run from October 29th to the 31st, and the St. Louis Safari Zone will go from November 12th to the 14th. In a shift from tradition, ticketholders for a Safari Zone will be able to participate remotely wherever they are in the world. Event-exclusive research tasks will be available to everyone who buys in, along with extended times for lures and incense items, which will help fans play Pokémon GO in the middle of nowhere . Featured Pokémon will also appear in the wild regardless of physical location, and players who participate in the Philadelphia event will be able to "take a snapshot for a surprise! " Ticketholders who do attend in person must RSVP ahead of time, so that organizers can keep an accurate count and ensure safety for attendants.

This shift toward the social element Pokémon GO was known for before 2020 comes alongside more conventional updates for the mobile game. Pokémon GO is currently undergoing the Season of Mischief, which is focused on the mythical Pokémon Hoopa. In addition to this ongoing season, Pokémon GO recently announced the Psychic Spectacular event , which introduces the psychic cephalopod Inkay and its evolution Malamar. These join other psychic Pokémon who will be appearing more frequently in the wild and in raids during the event.

Pokémon GO has a long road ahead of it in keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19. Offering one of its defining social events simultaneously in-person and digitally will hopefully serve as a good compromise between the social impact fans remember from its 2016 launch and the safety-oriented environment mandated by the ongoing pandemic. Players will be able to experience the game's new approach to Safari Zones starting next month.

-Tournament rules

Bring 6 Pokémon and Choose 4 for each game! "Official Rules 1" ruleset will be used for in game battles. Team sheet errors will result in a game loss, all tera types must be listed.

Pairings for rounds and score reports are done through Limitless. Please have a device on you at all times that can access this page. It is not the tournament organizer's or a judge's responsibility to check it for you.

You must bring your own Nintendo Switch and a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Violet to participate, which you are personally responsible for at all times. We do not have devices for you to use and are not liable if your equipment gets lost or damaged.

You will be provided with a teamsheet at the event. If you wish to print out your own copy, there is a link located in the Open Teamsheets section of the event page. If a portion of your sheet is deemed illegible, penalties will be handed out depending on the severity of the error(s). This includes but is not limited to: loss of held item/move, loss of Pokémon, game loss, and disqualification.

It is recommended that you bring some form of a portable power bank charger for your switch. There are some outlets available at the location, but this is a local event. Switch docks with chargers that you receive at regionals will not be supplied at the match tables. You don’t want to be having to worry about your switch battery running out in the late rounds of swiss or even worse top cut.

At the beginning of each round, you are allotted 10 minutes to check in and find your opponent. Failure to check in with your opponent after 10 minutes has passed will result in a game loss. After another 10 minutes have passed you will receive a second game loss and lose the round.

Rental teams ARE allowed. As long as you are able to fill out the Open Team Sheet (OTS), you can use that rental team.

This tournament will use open teamsheets. All sheets must have your six Pokémon with their held item, ability, tera type, and moveset submitted before the start of Swiss round 1. During your matches, you will be using paper team sheets to see details about your opponent's team.

Team sheets will be printed out at the venue for you just make sure you provide the poke paste for us to print it. Bracket starts at 11am so please get to the venue 45 minutes before, so we can print out your sheet

Below is an example teamsheet entry. All six Pokémon must be one after another in your submission and separated by one line each to format correctly on Limitless.

MATCH ETIQUETTE

At the start of each round, please wait until the organizer tells everyone you can begin. Once you are connected to the Union Circle (instructions below) then you can exchange team sheets. You may bring a notebook to write notes during the match, but you must start a fresh page for each new match. Wireless controllers are not allowed, you must have a wired controller to connect them to the Nintendo Switch. Controllers must be connected via their wire to the Nintendo Switch Docks available. Similarly, headphones are only allowed if they are connected via an aux cable to the Nintendo Switch console. Wireless headphones/earbuds / etc are not allowed. Do not have any food or drinks while playing, a sip of a drink is acceptable but then you must put the beverage on the ground. Plesae save snacks and drinks for in between rounds.

UNION CIRCLE Go to Poke Portal. Decide who hosts the Union Circle. The host will give a four-digit code for the Union Circle. Once you are in the Union Circle, go back to Poke Portal and select Link Battle then Double Battle.

Phase 1- Swiss Rounds Day 1 will be 7 rounds of Swiss rounds Swiss rounds will be 60 minutes each Bo3 To qualify for Day 2 which 32 players advance must go X-2

Phase 2- Top Cut

16 players advance, 5 rounds of Swiss are played qualifying players go into phase three top 8.

Top 8 is bo3 Single elimination bracket. All matches will be played on stream.

Wins are worth 3 match point, ties 1.

Opened in 2006, and billing itself as "the first Oceanarium in Russia", this collection of exotic and tropical fish and other marine creatures is part of a shopping centre in the centre of St. Petersburg, close to Vitebsky Station. There are 33 aquariums in the display, containing nearly 150 species of fish, sea mammals, and other sea creatures. The attractively designed aquariums are divided into zones by environment (tropical, reef, etc.), with an ambient soundtrack and themed decorations. There are also shows with seals (Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30am and 4pm) and sharks (Tuesday to Sunday, 7pm), and the chance to watch the animals being fed. There is also a diving school attached to the Oceanarium.
