Norwegian Sky

We arrived around noon and embarked very easily no lines at all. We decided to first explore the ship visiting most the areas. My initial thoughts were that the ship was very clean and a good size. We then decided to eat lunch. From the tips here on cruise critic I knew that the palace restaurant was open for lunch so we decided to have a nice sit-down lunch before we pushed off. When we arrived we were told that the palace doesn’t open until 12:00 and was recommended the buffet. We decided to wait and returned at 12:30 the buffet was recommended again! We sat down and our waiter recommended the buffet…. Geez, they really try to push the buffet for lunch on embarkment day but remember you can eat at the sit down palace for lunch, there were only a handful of people so the buffet push worked. We then proceeded to check out our room. We had an inside cabin, normal cruise ship size small. We proceeded up to outrigger lounge for embarkment. They have a really cool balcony on the front of the ship that you can only get to from outrigger lounge. A perfect spot to sip some drinks and watch Miami pass you by. We ate dinner at crossings, decent food nothing spectacular and went to the show rockin soul nights. Entertaining but for all the wrong reasons. Very cheesy nothing like I was expecting. I was hearing reviews on here about this show being Vegas quality. I have been to many Vegas shows and this was nothing like those. We left half way through. Had some more drinks at a lounge and went to bed.

Day two Freeport

Woke Up and had breakfast at the buffet. Decent breakfast but the eggs were very uncooked for my taste they had omelets, bacon. sausage fruits hash browns what you would expect for a buffet breakfast. Our excursion for the day was a horse back beach tour that we booked on the ship. Very enjoyable but my butt hurt after two hours on a horse. The owners were very friendly and helped out a lot I would recommend this tour if you are looking for something to do in Freeport we returned to the ship and had a late lunch at the buffet it was good with burgers hotdogs and fries. We then when back to out cabin for a well deserved nap… dinner that night was the dress up or not night with a lobster dish in the main dinning rooms. It was good but still not up to normal cruise food par. We then proceeded to the comedy show with Rich Pupla. It was pretty funny for a family friendly show with some magic thrown in much better than the soul rockin nights show the night before. After that was the newlywed game. This was excellent entertainment Matt Baker the cruise director had the place in tears. Just a note if you are thinking about doing this, it is taped and put on a loop in the rooms for the rest of the cruise. One couple looked very stupid I can only imagine what they had to deal with the rest of the cruise from all the other passengers that recognized them.

Day three Nassau

We got up extra early and were the first people of the ship! That’s a first. we got the altantis aquaventure package and didn't want to wait until 9:00 for the group so we took a taxi at 8:00 and were enjoying Atlantis by 8:15 is was very nice we had the whole place to ourselves for an hour and a half. The waterpark is great and atlanis has so many things to do and see. We took the water taxi back to the ship and had reservations for a specialty restaurant changys (I think that’s what its called) steakhouse. Food was better than the main dinning room but still not up to par. Me and my wife upgraded our meals to surf an turf for an extra ten bucks. Overall our bill was over a hundred dollars and was only a little better than outback restaurant quality. We passed on the on broadway show because it was the same crew for the soul rockin nights. We had a couple of drinks on the deck called it an early night because we were exhausted from atlantis.

Day four great stirrup cay

We woke to a raining day so we took our time on breakfast but by 9:30 it was bright and sunny. We took the tender over only a ten min wait or so for the tender. Plenty of loungers still available. We brought our own snorkeling gear and the island was great with music a buffet, ping pong tables and bars this was a very enjoyable day. The snorkeling was pretty bad.. but it still was fun. I found a cruise room card while snorkeling from 2006! Lol. I was hesitant about great stirrup because of the reviews but we enjoyed our self very much. We went back to the ship and picked out some pictures. And then preceded to le bistro the French restaurant. I wasn’t expecting much after all of the other restaurants but it was great! Finally cruise quality food. I would eat here every night if I could do it over again. We then proceeded for some bingo. We did the 60 bucks for 36 cards. We had a lot of fun and were standing one number away from the jackpot of 5000 and, and…. Lost oh well. After that we went to the casino. Basically a small casino although we had a fun time and decided to check out the quest game in put rigger lounge. Walked into outrigger lounge and saw a parade of men in there wife’s underwear wearing bras and lipstick ...man I wish we could of saw the whole show. Get there early because there were no seats at all. Had some drinks and went to bed

Disembark was a breeze, just a note I downloaded an iphone / ipod app called Cruise Card Control before our trip. It’s an app that keeps track of your spending while onboard. It was really helpful keeping me aware of my expenditures / budget. I was only off by $7.00 of my final total bill so there was no shell shock at then end of great cruise. I think they also have a free lite version which has countdown clocks too.

Overall sky was a beautiful well maintained ship with a friendly crew. Matt backer the cruise director is very good at his job and gets the energy up every time. There was always something to do. Sky was lacking in the food department although not terrible in any means. Just not up to par with the other lines. Eating by yourself vs. excellent food. Not sure what is better. Neverless we had a great time and it went by to fast.

We were on the Sky last springbreak 2009 and we had a blast! I would not hesitate to book a short cruise on this ship again in the future! But for now, my heart beats for our next ship NCL's Dawn! We leave 2 weeks from today!

Glad you also enjoyed the Sky as much as we did!

Yes its a good short cruise.... but it just a little too short, wish it was just a couple days longer. I guess I always say that! even on the 7 day cruises

Glad you enjoyed your Sky cruise. I did the same cruise in January 2010. I loved it. We were lucky though (we made it to Great Stirrup Cay). This winter the Sky has not been able to get the passengers to Great Stirrup Cay. The cruise director even told us how lucky we were because it was rare this crazy winter season. I live in Miami and this is going to be one of the coldest winters on record. The Bahamas also have one of the coldest winters ever on record. I personally love the cool air (since we sweat all year) but I feel for the snow birds that want that warm winter Bahamas cruise get away.

So many negative reviews on the Sky lately are weather related. You cant blame NCL for the weather or saftey to not risk going ashore to Great Stirrup Cay. The weather is warming up so I suppose weather wont be a factor as much now.

The Sky is a great ship and the youngest cruise ship to sail the Bahamas. They have the 3 night that skips Freeport but to see the Bahamas, I stronly suggest going to Freeport and the 4 night, 3 island tour on this Sky cruise.

If you do go to Freeport, I strongly suggest the bike ride tour.

Thanks for your review.

When did you cruise the Sky? I went April 2 and our cruise director was Pedro and he told us he had only been on board for a few weeks. Has it already changed again?

This thread is from 2010.

Thanks! I thought that was a little soon to change CD again!

We had a great time in the Carribean.

Aug 21st, 2024

I was expecting more from the ship experience, I took my daughter and granddaughters on the ship their first experience, I wish our room was a little nicer and the entertainment for the girls was better. I don't think I will do another cruise on this ship.

Great Weekend Getaway

Aug 17th, 2024

This cruise was a great escape from Miami for a few days. I went with friends and we just wanted to get out of the city for the weekend, and this cruise was perfect. Nassau is Nassau - the port looks much better today than it was ten years ago. It's beautiful but hot and not much to do on the island. You're far better off doing a snorkeling or jet skiing trip if you want to get off the ship. Great Stirrup Cay was awesome as always - beautiful water and solid service. The ship is a nice experience, but its age is really beginning to show. Bathrooms with curtains are becoming uncommon on new ships as is the general floorplan of this ship. The staff were excellent as always. Our favorite experience onboard was dinner at Cagney's Steakhouse.

Singles/Friends

I had a good time however the food at the buffet was under average. The staff was friendly the ship was clean. The value was not there compared to other cruises I have taken. Having cruised Norwegian in the past I was disappointed .

Aug 12th, 2024

I enjoyed myself however I felt like the cruiseline has declined in food quality and entertainment.

My 14th and last time on this ship before she leaves for Asia

Aug 10th, 2024

After sailing this ship 14 times over 15 yrs. Gonna miss her because she is gonna sail asia/Europe. Maybe we meet again!

The Cruise from HELL!!

Aug 3rd, 2024

Despite multiple attempts to contact Katty Byrd, Vice President of Guest Services, about these issues, I have not received a response. Based on my experience, I caution others to be wary of this ship, if not the entire cruise line.

Our Caribbean trip was wonderful

Jul 29th, 2024

Our cruise was excellent and we enjoyed every minute of it. We look forward to doing it again!!!

1 cruise (first)

It was a fun filled time on the ship and the excursions were great.

I loved the ship, cruise went smooth and it was an excellent choice of Ports. The food, activities, and entertainment was great.

2-3 cruises

Great itinerary on a small ship with fewer venues

Jul 25th, 2024

Overall a pleasant experience. We chose this cruise for the itinerary not the ship which is small and lacks a lot of amenities that larger ships have. Very few choices for complimentary food (buffet, main dining room and the local). I would not recommend to eat at the local (was being serviced by the buffet)

Great Cruise

Jul 6th, 2024

We enjoyed our cruise and look forward to another in the future.

Small Intimate Trip with very friendly staff

Jul 5th, 2024

Overall great time! Would consider another ship with kids in tow, plus was it was easy to keep track of them because it's a smaller boat. Easy on and off, pretty easy to get reservations.

If you do go to Freeport, I strongly suggest the bike ride tour.
