This was a great trip and provided a real insight into Morocco. We elected to ride our own bikes down from the Ferry at Santander which added an extra element to the trip and gave a real flavour for rural Spain
Jay clearly loves Morocco and the overnight stops and routes were all well planned and provided a real feel for the country from the cities at the North to the more remote Gorges, High Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert towards the South. The local people were friendly, and the food was good. Most importantly though the riding and scenery was amazing, as Morocco has so much to offer.
The big non bike event was an hours quad biking in the sand dunes of the Sahara which was brilliant fun and is strongly recommended.
We had a brilliant trip and all thanks to Jay and Ray (Group leader) for making it such an eventful and enjoyable trip
Book and go with Overland Motorcycle Tours would be my advice. I have done loads of touring with mates and just tried to find places and campsites to stay in along the way. This tour took all the hassle and stress out of the trip and although we got treated to some nice, clean modern hotels i much preferred the traditional Moroccan kasbahs/hotels but that’s just my preference. I started my trip from Plymouth and rode through Spain to Tarifa and also from Tarifa to Santander once the Morocco part had been done. The Spanish routes were self guided and the scenery and routes were spectacular. I thought Jay and Raz were excellent in guiding us and they themselves were also part of the experience.
Highly recommended. Good value tour of Morocco. I’ve done a lot and am confident in solo motorcycle travel (on-road). I hadn’t realised quite how much difference it would make to have someone else taking care of all the route planning and accommodation – I easily did more than twice the riding than if I’d had to manage all the logistics myself. Great routes, great accommodation, good variety of terrain and places to stay. Advance communication was fantastic, clear and responsive. Communication on the tour wasn’t always so clear, it was never a big problem, but I think that’s the only thing that could be improved a bit. Jay arranged bike hire for me from Malaga airport which was easy and problem free. From the description I thought there would be a little more off-tarmac than there was, but the roads were very mixed and I was happy with overall riding experience. I hired an Enfield Himalayan, as did one other, and we both thought we were on exactly the right bikes for Morocco – fun, confidence inspiring, and we got to explore what the bikes could do. There were others on much bigger bikes, some of whom seemed to be struggling a bit, and who as far as I could see mostly didn’t get to use the immense power of the bigger bikes. Final tip, pack light, one set of kit for riding including wet weather options (luckily not needed), one set of quick dry off bike clothes and some washing liquid, I washed something each evening, always more or less dry by the time we set off.
Dave & Clare
Cheers Jay, great trip to Morocco, it was everything I was hoping for, the scenery was fantastic, like being in a different country every day, really enjoyed your self guided routes through Spain too 👍
Extremely enjoyable trip, from Malaga to Merzouga on the edge of the Sahara and back. Winding tarmac roads that seem to never end, sandy gravel tracks on the edge of red sand dunes and mountain rocky trails with cliff like edges, its simply hard to get better! Traditional tagine meals where delicious and the hotels were a great experience of raw, comfy and wonderful. The local people were very friendly and accommodating throughout the Morocco. Jay and Raz ( Organiser and Guide) took great care of all our needs and any issues or concerns our group had were soon sorted out “Thanks Lads” . The bike I hired was the business, it was light and very capable for all terrains ( New honda Transalp). It was also great meet new people and have lots of fun while doing so.
Welcome to Moto Tours
Guided motorcycle tours.
We are an independent motorcycle tour operator and have been organising motorcycle tours to Morocco and Europe since 2012.
Experience with us some of Morocco's and Europe's most scenic motorcycle routes.
We have carefully planned and selected our motorcycle tours in order to provide you with the best possible riding experience, together with wonderful sights, beautiful natural scenery, tasty local food and good quality accommodation.
We welcome single riders, riders sharing and riders and pillions.
We go out of our way to make your experience of Morocco and Europe memorable. In Morocco we explore most of the famous passes and sights that some tour operators miss out and we don’t use motorways in Morocco. Our knowledge of Morocco, its culture and languages allows us to explore routes that other operators donʼt. We intentionally keep our motorcycle tour groups to a maximum of 12 bikes, so you can get the best riding experience and meet new friends.
Remember though, this is a guided tour, but when we reach our overnight stop, you are free to explore your surroundings. Although, guests normally like to have a drink and a meal together and discuss the sights and roads they have seen that day.
Features of our Morocco tours
Return ferries
Our Morocco tours include return ferries from Plymouth to Santander and Algeciras to Tangier Med.
We do not expect you to share a cabin from Plymouth, if you have booked a single supplement, in Spain and Morocco.
Good local cuisine
You will be able to sample some great cuisine throughout the tour.
Where evening meals are not provided we can direct you to some great places to eat.
Regular stops
We understand that all riders are different.
We do not expect you to undertake miles and miles of riding in a day.
We have factored in breaks that make the tour enjoyable, but still able to cover the miles.
Briefing day
No briefings on the ferry and finding out that you have to cover hundreds and hundreds of miles.
This is a chance to meet the other guests and ask any questions you may have.

Our adventure starts in sunny Spain crossing down through National parks and the High Sierras staying in Burgos and Cuidad Real, once we reach the strait of Gibraltar we pile on the fast ferry over to Tangier the gateway between Europe and Africa. From Tangier we ride up into the mountains and gorges of the countryside that surrounds Chefchaouen. Known for its beautiful blue washed buildings and narrow little lanes glimpses of this town provide our first immersion into the Moroccan way of life.
Next on our adventure comes Fez, a true cultural hub full of vibrant colours and endless souks, you can’t help but get swept up in the sights and smells of the old world atmosphere that engulfs this famous city. After a day exploring Fez we ride on to the Middle Atlas Mountains and the breathtaking Gorges de Ziz with the magnificent river Ziz snaking its way down the gorge with us. Lonely Planet described this spot as ‘rich and untouristed’ and it’s not difficult to see why!
Ride through vast open plains, see the sunset in the Sahara and enjoy a real Moroccan adventure with Magellan
See the Sahara under the stars
For the true adventurers at heart what could be better than a night camping under the stars in the desert? Sitting around the campfire in the dunes with delicious food and the company of your fellow riders lets you unleash your inner nomad. After a blissful night have a day off to play in the dunes and then get back on the bikes the following morning and ride through the Todra Gorge a series of limestone river canyons in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains. We then weave our way down through the spectacular Vallee du Dades, whose dried gorges carved out by the Dades River host hairpin after hairpin and breathtaking scenery to boot!
Staying in the Atlas Mountains we then ride one of the finest roads in Africa, the Tizi-n-Tichka pass. This gateway to the Sahara desert reaches an elevation of 2,260 metres making it the highest mountain pass in north Africa. The hairpins this pass is famous for are truly exhilarating and when we get to our stop for the evening it’s always the hot topic of conversation over a lamb tagine and some cool beers.
Ride a camel out to your desert camp in the Sahara
Explore Fez and Marrakesh
After all the excitement on the mountain passes we have a day off in another of Morocco’s beautiful cities- Marrakech, along with mosques, palaces and gardens to explore there are thriving souks selling textiles, pottery and jewellery to meander around. We then ride up the coast to the Moroccan capital of Rabat where we visit the King Mohammed Golden Mausoleum and from here we venture north making our way back to Tangier once more to get the ferry back to Spain. Several days of leisurely riding follows as we journey up through the country, before spending an afternoon in the Picos de Europa and then catching the overnight ferry home.
Riding to Morocco on your own motorcycle truly is an unforgettable experience. We have designed this to be 100% on road so it’s suitable for everything from Harleys to Bergmans and any bikes in between. This tour gives you the chance to meet amazing like-minded people, explore a magnificent culture, taste incredible food and most importantly ride some life-changing, mind-blowing roads.
Of all the motorcycle tours, in all the towns, in all the world…. You have to ride on ours!

Common questions about this trip
Can I get a different crossing on this trip?
Of course, if you would like to make your own arrangements to get over to Spain and join up with the route at the hotel on the first night near Santander just let us know in the comments section of your booking form and we will deduct the cost of the included crossing from your booking.
What’s the weather like on this tour?
Not as hot as you may expect! Considering parts of the trip are in the desert we’ve picked the dates so that the weather should still be nice in Spain and on the few hot days riding down to the sahara and back temperatures will be in the late 20’s early 30’s so warm weather riding gear and drinking plenty of water is advised but fear not you won’t absolutely bake.
Is riding in Morocco safe?
Morocco is a very friendly and safe country with a well established tourist infrastructure in most places. However you should be prepared for different standards of hygiene and behaviour in some places and certainly different standards of driving on the roads! Do not be put off – we love this trip and it’s perfectly suitable for novice tourers as much as seasoned riders and you can do it on any touring bike, but you need to remember this is Africa, not Europe and adjust your expectations (and your riding) as required.
Is there a support vehicle on this tour?
Yes we have a support vehicle that follows the trip in Morocco with tools, water and space for some luggage etc..
Will my Satnav cover the areas we go through on this tour?
Most Garmin and Tomtom devices have maps that cover the entirety of Western Europe. On this trip though you will need maps of Morocco as well. Check if your device has these and if not you can download easily before you go. We provide full instructions on setup in the tour packs and our guides are all Satnav Wizards!
Will I find this tour too tiring?
You shouldn’t do no, we design all of our trips to be accessible to riders of all abilities and include plenty of days off the bike as part of this. These longer trips are no exception, we could easily make them 4 or 5 days shorter but we choose to add multiple rest days and avoid the motorways as much as possible so you can enjoy the ride and arrive at the hotels in the evening in good time to relax before dinner.
What about border crossings and insurance for areas outside the EU?
Third Party Insurance can be purchased at the border into Morocco very easily, indeed it is compulsory to have it to ride in the country. You may also be able to get a green card from your insurer before you go. We provide full details in the tour packs on all insurance options and a step by step guide to crossing the border, if you’re on a guided tour we’ll be there with you every step of the way too.
Is it possible to do this tour in less time?
Yes, we also run this tour with a start point in Malaga with hire included so you can fly straight in and avoid riding down through Spain from the U.K. Check this itinerary out here .
