RV camping near St Louis guide

Four interstates meet in St. Louis—44, 64, 55, and 70—providing easy RV access from all directions to nearby camping and outdoor attractions. The Mississippi River and Gateway Arch are STL's notable attractions, but smaller waterways south of the city, like the Meramec River , Big River, and Huzzah River, offer canoeing, fishing, and float trips. Also on the Meramec River, Onondaga Cave State Park is known for its cave, which you can tour.  Mark Twain National Forest sits southwest of the city and features hiking trails and campgrounds, while north of the city,  Cuivre River State Park has hiking and horseback-riding trails plus a lake for swimming. Even more hiking and camping can be found at  St. Francois State Park , south of the city. There are a few RV parks in the city outskirts, but you’ll have much nicer settings in the state parks and other woodsier RV campgrounds along the rivers.

Great Stop Over Location

The location is just 15 minutes from downtown St Louis. Service was great and site came w power and water and sewer hookup. Showers were ok and they were clean. Pull through site was a life saver.

Great BBQ place on site and camp guests get a discount!

Beautiful secluded location

We stayed for 1 night, had a spot in the back with a perfect view of the lake. Lots of room for dogs.

Wonderful surprise

Arrived just after a terrible storm so parts of the park were closed for clean up. The parts that were open were all cleaned up, spacious sites, easy access, with fantastic hosts. An absolutely beautiful evening in gorgeous surroundings…we’ll be back and so glad we stumbled upon this place. Didn’t use the showers so can’t report on the facilities….

Washington state park

Very secluded!!! Hiking was great!

Clean bathrooms, but noisy night

Checking in was easy enough and we got a spot near the bathrooms. We came in late and the check in board was easy.

Lots of people who smoke. But the bathrooms are smoke free and we're clean.

Nights are noisy!!! About 3am sounded like a dump truck was driving through camp and lifting several dumpsters and backing up and doing it again. It wasn't really but it was that noisy.

Lots of longer term tenants. But everyone we bumped into were kind or just kept to themselves.

December Camp

Loved the campground! However, lesson learned to reserve a campsite further from the road. Great hiking trails. Fishing not so much. Scenic views. Easy plug n play electric on a 30 amp box, no issues with blowing fuses like I have at other big state parks. Clean vault toilets (I didn't like how people would drive into the park from the highway just to use the bathroom).. overall good stay though. I'll definitely go back!

Heather N Q.

Pin oak nice spot

Great Quiet Fair priced.

Nice little park

The online reservations were easy to make, and after talking to staff on the phone I found the website to be up to date. Staff were pleasant and the place is well kept. We got in at night, the night check in board was easy to find and the map showed us exactly our spot and the route to take to get to it. The stay was pleasant though there Is an airport nearby and steady traffic on the highway this is on. Check out? Just leave and it’s taken care of. I’ve never stayed at an easier place.

Illini campground 7/23.

Awesome campground, fill hoses available for your rig, 30 amp power. Fun little trails, boat rentals and a swimming “beach” . On-site store and nicely groomed campgrounds.

Beautiful out of the way park

Getting here is an adventure but the park is nice. I only had 30 amp electric and no water or sewer hookup. Didn’t see any sites with water but there were ample water spigots to fill our tank.

Jay B.

Illini campground: Huge sites and wonderfully nice hosts 0

Popped in late on July 4th during a cross-country trip just for the night. Wonderful hosts checked us in (Happy Anniversary!) Absolutely huge site with old growth trees throughout the campground without lots of space between.

Cassondra P.

Clean campground - Tight sites

We stopped her for a few nights to check out St. Louis. It’s about a 30-40 min drive to the arch from campground

Sites were all gravel, fire pits were poorly placed and frequently it fell under someone else’s slide or trailer. We always bring our solo stove so we could have a fire in a better spot on our lot

Pool and bathrooms were clean, staff were very friendly

This campground has a ton of “cabins”

There is a very large hill to get in and some sites are VERY tight - we thankfully had a decent size site comparatively

Shelly D.

Stayed here for a quick weekend away. Facilities were nice and clean, and staff was very friendly. Mini golf, activity room with a pinball machine and pool table. A band played on Saturday night at the pavillion but unfortunately it was very cold and we didn't stay long. Sites were a little cramped, but we had a nice view of the pond. We were close to the playground though, which had bright lights at night and loud kids - I would avoid that area next time.

Great Quiet Campsite

Quick decision to stop here on a road trip. Was extremely easy to book only a few hours in advance over the phone. Very friendly and attentive staff. Site was very clean and well kept as well as quiet and peaceful

Helpful Staff

Highly helpful staff. A guide will assist you to your site and helped with backing in and leveling the RV. Tons of activities for the kiddos and right next door to Six Flags.

great for RVs

staying one night in my van cus the state park nearby was full. kinda expensive-paid $44 for a waterfront site w electric and water hookup. playground, laundry, showers. highway noise. sites are close together. not much privacy. well lit. office also serves as general store, firewood $6 per bundle. closes at 8pm. big park.

McCully Heritage Project

A day out with the kiddos..

I just love the bridge across the pond. We had a picnic and the kids got to play on the playground equipment.

Great St. Louis Park

Close to the attractions in St. Louis. Friendly and helpful park staff. Terrific stop coming from the east to west or north to south destinations (or vice versa).

Nice area, next to a race track

Pretty nice campground, but is near a racetrack. Loud engine noises can be heard past 10pm. Otherwise, no real complaints!

Helpful friendly hosts

Stayed at overnight. The host couple is very friendly and helpful. Place was clean. Sites were pretty level and shaded. Host helped us with ladder and broom for the stuff that fell off the trees. Cute pool but didn’t use it. Laundry worked good. Pizza was good. Pet runs clean and in good shape. Good air signal for tv.

It was just okay

Grounds were nice enough. There was a slight sewer smell throughout the park. Staff didn’t talk much. The water spigot was broken at our sight. Couldn’t get the water to turn off. Pool was in good enough Out caching with 2AussieDad. From Alaska. Got our Illinois cache. Headed to the St.Louis Arch. TFTC shape. Busy with families. The tiny pens in the back for the dogs were a little more muddy. Not enough room to play, just poop. The waste receptacle was full.

Juan O.

Great attention, close to everything

It’s 8 minutes from Busch stadium, (STL Cardinals’s home), and baseball village which is awesome, campsite is great, good spots enough to fit our 36’ rig, full hookups, small but nice and clean pool, playground and helpful staff

Jessica N.

Great overnight stop close to St Louis attractions

Spent one night on our way through. We had tram tickets for the arch so we needed a shore power hookup for run the AC for our dog. This was a good spot for that. Some grass and shade, a pool and a playground for the kids. When you first pull down the road you’ll be worried you’re going to end up in the train yard, but the campground is hidden and actually really quiet and secluded. Laundry, showers and bathrooms available as well.

Very nice park near downtown St. Louis

Cahokia RV Parque is a nice RV park only 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the St. Louis area. I compared the park to two others near St. Louis on the Illinois side and found this one to be the most pleasant. Most of the sites are sunny, but some have shade. The park streets are asphalt, but the sites are gravel. The park is quiet. Gave it 4 stars for cleanliness due to the gravel sites. Otherwise, the park was clean.

Stayed in campsite#34 which has plenty of shade. It was a gravel back-in site with enough parking for my TT and truck with plenty of grass on either side. The site included: picnic table on a concrete patio, fire ring, and small trees. Utilities were located closer to the front of the site: 20A/30A/50A electric water, sewer. Site was pretty level. Awning faced east so we didnt get the evening sun shining underneath, but a tree prevented me from opening the awning. It didnt matter because there was plenty of shade in the evening, but not much in the middle of the day. Nearest neighbor was close.

AT&T had 2 bars of 5G and Verizon 3 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest 49.7 Mbps down, 3.35 Mbps up. Could not access the WiFi even though the password was on the info sheet.

Would stay here again.  We camped at Cahokia RV Parque in a Travel Trailer.

Good Campsite!

Family of 5 (2 toddlers, 1 baby)

We have went to this campsite for years! It’s only 35 minutes from our home which makes it appealing. Everyone is so nice, never had an issue with the people or service. We also love the size of the park, the paved streets, and walking trails. Great for long weekend with littles!

Docked two stars because the sites aren’t consistently mowed and the playgrounds aren’t very well maintained. It’s a far fall off the slides.

Jelleystone Campground near Six Flags Saint Louis

We stayed here with a new camper, to be near our RV dealer and hardware stores. The site was ok, tricky to level. There was a steep drop just past our steps, and not a lot of room to set up chairs, etc. Honestly, the site we were in felt like an afterthought, as we were just pulled off the lower loop road. But we were there primarily to op check the camper features, and this campground allowed us to do so.

If you're visiting Six Flags this is an ideal location, with a great camp store and restaurant, and lots of things for kids to do. I found good hiking trails nearby at Rockwoods Range. There are a lot of cabins and tent sites here as well.  The camp staff were friendly and helpful. And the sunrise from our site was beautiful!

Canoe and Camp on Missouri’s Big River at Cherokee Landing!

NOTICE: Due to limited capacity reservations are highly recommended.

Why the Big River?

You will avoid the crowds of many of Missouri’s float rivers, while enjoying the relaxing natural surroundings of this Northern Ozarks stream. Big River’s name is quite a misnomer. Early French settlers named the river Grande due to its beauty and during translation to English the name “Big” evolved. Big River is a tributary of the Meramec River, flowing north to the confluence.

Float through the forested ridges and cool hollows of St. Francois State Park.

st louis camping trip

Cherokee Landing is a small outfitter and the only one on this portion of the Big River, so you will not find the over-crowded condition of other rivers.

cherokee landing big river mo

Cherokee Landing is centrally located with easy highway access and is within an hour of St. Louis. Float trips start upstream and end at Cherokee Landing.

Water Levels

Because of our location on the upper portion of the river, the water level around Cherokee Landing can rise and fall very quickly. Very often, when the St. Louis or Steelville areas have floods, Cherokee Landing has an excellent float. Please call ahead to check the river condition. Click here to view USGS water level data for the Big River. Please be aware that during low-water levels (3.5 feet or less) the suggested maximum weight of floaters and gear is 400 lbs. for a 4-person raft and 600 lbs for a 6 person raft.

We are open:

Friday & Saturday for camping • Saturday & Sunday for float trips

Reservations are not required but recommended as availability cannot be guaranteed without it.

Weekday floats and camping are only available with a prearranged appointment.

We request that all floats end before dusk.
