Massive excitement from Genesis fans continues to push The Last Domino? North American Tour to add more dates, a 2 nd and final show in Boston at TD Garden on December 16, 2021. Genesis announced their highly anticipated return to North America for the first time in 14 years with The Last Domino? tour dates that will have Tony Banks, Phil Collins, and Mike Rutherford , playing major cities across the U.S. and Canada this November and December 2021. This tour includes New England’s only engagement at Boston’s TD Garden on December 15, 2021 . The group will be joined by Nic Collins on drums, and the band’s long-time lead guitar and bass player Daryl Stuermer .

Kicking off at Chicago’s United Center on November 15, 2021 , Genesis The Last Domino? North American Tour 2021 will continue on to Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia , while also making two stops in the New York metro area at Madison Square Garden on December 5, 2021 , and at the brand new UBS Arena in Belmont Park on December 10, 2021 . The tour will also stop in Columbus and Pittsburgh before wrapping in Boston on December 15, 2021, at TD Garden .

The Last Domino? North American Tour 2021 marks the first time Genesis has performed stateside since 2007’s Turn It On Again: The Tour which went on to be one of the biggest grossing tours of that year playing sold out arenas and stadiums around the world. One of the most successful and legendary rock bands of all-time, Genesis has sold more than 100 million albums with numerous top 20 hits including “Invisible Touch,” “In Too Deep,” and “Turn It On Again,” while also being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Tickets for all shows will be available first through a presale powered by Ticketmaster Verified Fan on May 5, followed by the general public on-sale on May 7. The Verified Fan program aims to create a safe and reliable ticket-buying experience. It helps ensure that tickets get into the hands of real fans first. Fans must register for access between now and Sunday, May 2 at 11:59 pm ET. If verified and selected, fans can secure their tickets beginning Wednesday, May 5, at 10 am local time.

Venues in all the tour cities (except Cleveland and Philadelphia) will utilize Ticketmaster’s digital ticketing. The band announced the news on their social media on Thursday. "Genesis confirm their highly anticipated return to North America for the first time in 14 years," their tweet said. "The Last Domino? Tour 2021 will have @tonybanksmusic @PhilCollinsFeed & Mike Rutherford playing major cities across the U.S. & Canada this November & December."

This tour is an added North American leg to a previously announced (and rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic) U.K. and Ireland reunion tour , which was to mark the first time the band played together since their 2007 Turn It On Again tour.

Classic-era members Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford will headline the line-up, joined by long-time touring guitarist/bassist Daryl Stuermer and new addition to the group, Phil's son Nic Collins on the drums.

Original lead singer Peter Gabriel will not be joining for the tour. He quit the band in 1975, and hasn't played with them again since a one-time gig in 1982. Guitarist Steve Hackett, who quit the band in 1977, is also absent from the line-up.

Collins' son Nic on drums is a reflection of the singer's own health struggles. Phil Collins suffers from extensive nerve damage to his hands, limiting his ability to play drums. He officially retired from music in 2011, but he backed off from that declaration in 2015. Then, in 2017, he officially launched a comeback tour , where Nic first backed him up on drums, as he will here.

The North American leg of the tour kicks off Nov. 15 in Chicago continues to Washington, D.C.; Charlotte, N.C.; Montreal; Toronto; Buffalo; Detroit; Cleveland; Philadelphia; NYC; Columbus, Ohio; Belmont Park, N.Y.; and Pittsburgh before wrapping in Boston on Dec. 15.

As much as Phil Collins seems to come in for near-relentless stick these days - and as much as Genesis often bear the brunt of that too, often as a result of guilt by association - you couldn’t accuse them of being safe or formulaic; in fact, they helped to pioneer progressive and even art rock, long before Talk Talk were making records like Laughing Stock or Spirit of Eden. In doing so, they pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in the late sixties and early seventies, and became a huge commercial success in the process. The band’s enduring popularity was attested to during their most recent reformation, in 2007; a twenty-date tour of the UK and Europe saw them packing out stadiums, with a free concert in Rome attracting half a million people to the city’s ancient Circus Maximus. A stunning, intricate stage show finally did some of their classics some justice, years and in some cases decades after many of them were recorded, and proved that the influence that Genesis have had on rock music since has by no means passed the public by; they’re currently officially on hiatus rather than disbanded again, so watch this space - even if Collins claims to have retired from the music business.

Great to be going to see them in Birmingham in December. It’s been far too long. Great also to see that after so many years of inactivity they have to put on double the shows.

As more and more concerts go on the books for the fall, Genesis becomes one of the first to announce a major arena tour, announcing rescheduled North American tour dates for their “The Last Domino?” tour, the first time in 14 years the group has played the continent. The tour will see core members Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford joined by Nic Collins on drums and the band’s long-time lead guitar and bass player Daryl Stuermer. The tour will follow the group’s U.K. and Ireland dates in September and October.

Kicking off at Chicago’s United Center on November 15, 2021, the tour is scheduled to continue on to Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, while also making two stops in the New York metro area at Madison Square Garden on December 5, 2021, and at the brand new UBS Arena in Belmont Park on December 10, 2021. The tour will also stop in Columbus and Pittsburgh before wrapping in Boston on December 15, 2021, at TD Garden.

Genesis add North American dates to upcoming reunion tour

The band's rescheduled UK arena tour precedes the US run this autumn

Genesis have expanded their forthcoming reunion tour, plotting dates in North America for later this year.

Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and  Phil Collins announced at the start of 2020 that they were reuniting for a tour called The Last Domino?’. The trio, playing together for the first time since 2017, are set to be joined on the tour by Nic Collins on drums, and guitarist/bassist Daryl Stuermer.

The UK run of the tour, originally set for November and December 2020 before being pushed back to April and then again to September – all due to the coronavirus pandemic – will precede a newly announced North American run.

Announcing the shows on Instagram, Phil Collins said: “Today, Genesis confirm their highly anticipated return to North America for the first time in 14 years.

“The Last Domino? Tour 2021 will have Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford playing major cities across the U.S. and Canada this November and December.”

Speaking about the reunion last year, Rutherford said: “I think it’s a natural moment,” reflecting on the timing of the group’s reunion. “Phil’s been out on tour for the last two-and-a-half years and his son Nick has been drumming, so it seemed like the natural moment to have a conversation about it.

“We’re all still good friends, we’re all above grass and here we are!”

2022 USA & CANADA Seconds Out + More! Tour Dates

24 March 2022: It is with great regret that we will have to reschedule our upcoming CANADIAN tour dates (currently scheduled for next week, March 2022), due to an outbreak of Covid within the band. Following our earlier announcement of the postponed Canadian shows we have now been able to reschedule these dates: Montreal is now November 29th 2022 Oakville is now November 30th and December 1st 2022 Quebec is now December 4th 2022 A huge thank you to all who worked to get these reschedules for us.

The show will feature the 1977 Genesis live album Seconds Out in full, plus More!

Seconds Out was the hugely successful double album recorded on Genesis' 1977 concert tour together with The Cinema Show , from their 1976 tour, and featured Steve Hackett on guitar alongside Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins who had taken on the role of vocalist following the departure of Peter Gabriel. The tour included music from each of the six studio albums from Steve's time in Genesis and marked his final recordings with the band as he left to pursue his solo career upon its completion.

There will also be additional material, including solo favourties and tracks from Steve's new album "Surrender Of Silence".

Steve Hackett says: "I'm thrilled to bring Seconds Out back to life, featuring Genesis material at its most exciting and virtuosic, this time with all numbers played in full plus additional surprises!"

Genesis Adds More 2022 Dates to Reunion Tour

Genesis — Phil Collins, Michael Rutherford, and Tony Banks — have added two more dates to the 2022 edition of their reunion tour. On Oct. 25, they announced nine concerts, representing the first European dates of the tour. On Oct. 29, the day those shows went on sale, the band announced two additional concerts, due to demand. The 11 concerts – in Germany, France and the Netherlands – precede three London concerts that were rescheduled when Rutherford tested positive for Covid-19. See the itinerary below. On Oct. 8, the band postponed the final four dates of the U.K. edition of their 2021 reunion tour. (On Oct. 19, the shows at The O2 in London were rescheduled for March 2022. The announcement made no mention of the Oct. 8 show in Glasgow.) Though neither announcement identified who had taken ill, the touring band consists of the three veterans, plus Collins’ son, Nic, who serves as their drummer, as well as longtime Genesis touring band member, Daryl Stuermer, returns on guitar and bass.

At the time of the Oct. 19 announcement of the new London dates, Best Classic Bands wrote, “Given the enormity of the undertaking, it’s not unreasonable to expect that the group will decide to extend their reunion tour further into 2022, perhaps to Europe as well as other parts of North America beyond the east coast.”

In a Nov. 15 interview with USA Today , Banks neither confirmed nor denied that. “When we do the final show next year, that will be it,” he said. “We thought the 2007 tour would be the end, and this was never planned, so it was a nice thing to have happened. But it’s important to know when to stop something. So I’d say if you want to see Genesis, don’t put it off ‘til the next one. We’re not like the (Rolling) Stones.”

The U.K. leg of The Last Domino? tour began Sept. 20 in Birmingham and played for 12 shows before being suspended after their Oct. 7 concert in Glasgow.

On Jan. 22, 2021, they rescheduled their U.K. reunion tour a second time, due to the global pandemic. The dates, originally planned for November and December 2020 in the U.K. and Ireland have been pushed back to September and October 2021. (On July 24, 2020, the band moved the tour to April 2021. The magnitude of the pandemic proved those dates to be too premature.) See the revised schedule and new rehearsal teaser below.

From the Jan. 22 statement: “The decision to move the tour again is due to the global pandemic, and even with the roll out of the vaccine, there are still a huge amount of uncertainties and unanswered questions that make a tour in April difficult for everyone. It is appreciated, that for whatever reason, those planning on attending the shows may not feel comfortable doing so, so by moving the tour we can alleviate some of those concerns and in turn that will allow the band and the crew to prepare with less unpredictability and create a show that both the band and fans alike will treasure and enjoy.

In the earlier joint statement on Jan. 22, Collins, Banks and Rutherford said: “Well let’s just forget about that last year and focus on 2021 shall we! We can’t wait to finally get this show on the road, but we feel the decision to move the tour is the best one for those planning on attending and for us as a band and crew. We hope now we can all relax a little more and focus on the music and having a good night.”

Many tours have been delayed to 2022 or canceled altogether.

On April 1, 2021, Live Nation U.K. released a brief clip for the tour.

The day before, the station teased their “exclusive reveal” that “a massive band is reuniting.” That same day, the group posted a photo of the trio on their Instagram account with just the phrase, “And then there were three…”

Genesis fans will certainly recognize that that was the name of the band’s 1978 album, their first as a threesome. Collins, Rutherford and Banks last toured together in 2007.

There was no indication whether the tour would be extended to other countries.

The trio was seen at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Jan. 22, 2020, when they attended a Knicks game though, oddly, Collins was not seated with the other two. At that time, speculation was rife that the group would reunite.

The group’s original frontman, Peter Gabriel, who left the band in 1975 for a successful solo career, is not involved. (He’s appeared with the group on stage several times since his departure.)

Genesis concerts are known for having spectacular light shows. Best Classic Bands asked Banks about that. “Great lighting effects can carry the music along and present more of a show,” he said. “If you got it right, you heightened the emotion of the music. I’m not the most visual person onstage,” he added with a laugh.

Due to severe issues with his back, Collins, who turned 70 on January 30, is no longer able to drum. He has also dealt with hip issues in recent years and now sits throughout most of his solo tour performances. They’ll be joined on this tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who has filled in for his father behind the kit during his recent solo tours. (The younger Collins turned 20 on April 21.) Longtime Genesis touring band member, Daryl Stuermer, returns on guitar and bass.

In 2018, Best Classic Bands asked Banks about an inevitable reunion. His reply: “Well, Phil is obviously not able to drum. But I never say we’ll never play together again.” Banks turned 71 on March 27.

During the band’s commercial heyday in the ’80s, Genesis had five straight studio albums reach #1 in the U.K. Though they continually earned multiple Platinum sales in the U.S., a #1 album in America eluded them. 1986’s  Invisible Touch was their top seller. The album yielded five Top 5 singles in the U.S., including the title track which became their solo U.S. #1 hit.

Even while the band was active, Collins, Rutherford and Banks each had many solo endeavors. Collins continues to sell out stadiums and arenas on his own, and has sold a reported 150 million records (albums and singles) worldwide. Between 1984-1989, he earned an astounding seven #1 solo singles in the U.S., for such songs as “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” and “Another Day in Paradise.”

As the leader of Mike + the Mechanics, Rutherford has carved out a second career with such favorites as “The Living Years” and “All I Need is a Miracle.” Rutherford turned 69 on October 2. Banks’ solo releases have concentrated on orchestral pieces.

I don’t see how Phil Collins can do a big tour like that considering his health problems. And that’s too much for his son to have to handle by himself.

Watch Genesis Play ‘Tonight Tonight Tonight’ at Final Tour Kickoff

Genesis played their first concert of 2022 Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany. It’s the start of a 14-show European run that the group says will be the last gigs they’ll ever play.

“When we do the final show next year, that will be it,” keyboardist Tony Banks told USA Today in September 2021. “So I’d say if you want to see Genesis, don’t put it off ‘til the next one. We’re not like the [Rolling] Stones.”

The setlist was identical to the one they played last year, mixing hits like “I Can’t Dance,” “That’s All,” and “Land of Confusion” with fan favorites like “Duchess” and Domino” and a handful of tunes from the Peter Gabriel era like “I Know What I Like,” “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,” and “The Carpet Crawlers.”

Here’s a fan-shot video of “Tonight Tonight Tonight” and “Invisible Touch.” (As has been the case since 1992, they only play the first half of “Tonight Tonight Tonight.” They haven’t done the full song since the Invisible Touch tour of 1986/87.)

The Last Domino? tour hit arenas in America late last year, but the band never went anywhere further west than Chicago. That meant much of the country didn’t get near a Genesis show. They have a nice consolation prize coming in a few weeks when prog-era guitarist Steve Hackett brings his Genesis Revisited tour to North America for an extensive run of shows that’ll feature a complete performance of the band’s 1977 double live album Seconds Out at every stop.

The Genesis tour wraps up on March 26th at the 02 Arena in London. They reserve the right to change their mind and keep touring, especially since they haven’t announced a single show in Italy where they’ve enjoyed an enormous audience for over 50 years. But Phil Collins has significant health issues and is probably anxious to wrap up his touring career. That will be a sad day for Genesis fans, but at least he gathered up the strength for this last run.
