How to Get a Full Screen on iPad in Safari

Having Safari go full-screen is appealing if you wish to have the most immersive web browsing experience possible. While there isn't a full-screen button in Safari, there are a few ways to use up more of the tablet's screen. Here are your options:

Tap the aA button to the left of the page's URL, then tap Hide Toolbar . The page won't go completely full screen, but it's as close as you can get.

The toolbar will reappear the next time you close out of Safari.

Tap the menu button at the top left of Safari. This will collapse that menu and give you way more room to view web pages.

Tap the three dots at the top of the browser, then select Full Screen . This method, which also works in Chrome and other browsers, is useful if you're currently viewing a website in Split View mode .

Add the web page to the Home Screen . This will create a shortcut to the page next to all your other apps. When you tap the shortcut, it will open the website in Safari, ideally in full-screen mode.

This doesn't work on all websites. If the web developer added the right code to their website, then opening the shortcut will hide everything else on the page, making the site show in full screen.

Another way to make Safari on iPad go full screen is with a bit of JavaScript. This method isn't ideal because it doesn't stick around as you click through web pages and it's too easy to exit, but it is helpful in some situations.

How to Make Videos on iPad Go Full Screen

Another way to go full screen on an iPad is when watching videos. Some apps offer actual full screen, with no menu bar at the top, while others keep the menu bar. You can't control which is which; it's up to the app developer.

To watch a video in full-screen mode, tap the full-screen button on the video player. Different apps and websites use a different button, but it's usually either a square or a set of two arrows.

If you're viewing the video picture-in-picture, tap the right-corner icon showing two squares.

Apps that support multitasking can be used in a few different ways.

Open an app.

Tap the App Library icon at the far-right side of the Dock.

Touch and hold one of the larger app icons, then drag it into Split View or Slide Over. To see your other apps by category, tap one of the groups of smaller app icons. You can also tap the App Library search bar to see all your apps, then drag one of the apps into a multitasking view.

Use Spotlight to open multiple apps

To use Spotlight for multitasking, you need to have a keyboard, such as the Apple Magic Keyboard, connected to your iPad.

Press Command (⌘)–Space bar on your keyboard to open Spotlight.

Begin typing the name of the second app that you want to open.

Touch and hold the second app's icon when it appears in Spotlight results, then immediately drag it out of Spotlight.

How to open a center window on your iPad

Open an app that supports center window, such as Mail or Notes.

Touch and hold an individual email, note, or other item from the app's list.

Tap Open in New Window in the menu that appears.

Make adjustments to multitasking windows

When you have multiple apps open, you can make adjustments to customize your multitasking experience.

Adjust Split View

To adjust the apps' sizes, drag the app divider to the left or right. To give the apps equal space, drag the app divider to the center of the screen.

To replace an app, swipe down from the top of the app, then choose another app from your Home Screen or Dock.

Adjust Slide Over

To see the other apps that you have in Split View, touch and hold the bottom edge of the app, then drag up. The other Split View apps appear, and you can tap an app to switch to it or swipe up on it to close it.

Use the shelf on your iPad

When you switch to an app that has multiple windows open, the bottom of your iPad screen shows a shelf containing thumbnails of all the app's windows.

Drag and drop between apps

With drag and drop, you can move text, photos, and files from one app to another. For example, you can drag text from Safari into a note, an image from Photos into a an email, or a calendar event into a text message.

Use Split View or Slide Over to open the two apps that you want to move information between.

Touch and hold a photo or file until it appears to lift off the screen slightly. To drag and drop text, select the text first, then touch and hold it. To select multiple photos or files, touch and hold one, drag it slightly, then continue to hold it while you tap additional items with another finger. A badge indicates the number of selected items.

Drag the photo, file, or text to the other app.

Use gestures to navigate your iPad

You can use Multitasking gestures on your iPad to quickly see the app switcher, switch to another app, or return to the Home Screen:

See the app switcher: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and hold in the middle of the screen until the app switcher appears, then let go. Then swipe left or right to find another app or pairing of apps that you've used together in Split View. Swipe all the way to the left to see all the apps that you have open in Slide Over.

Switch apps: While using an app, swipe left or right across your screen with four or five fingers to switch to another app. On an iPad Pro with Face ID, iPad Pro 11-inch, or iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation), swipe along the bottom edge of your screen to switch to another app.

Return to the Home Screen: While using an app, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. You can also put five fingers on the screen and then make a pinch gesture.

You can use Picture in Picture with iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation and later), iPad Air 2 and later, or iPad mini 4 and later.

How to make safari open in full screen in SONOMA

I can not make safari open in full screen mode since I upgraded to SONOMA

It used to open in full screen mode, now every time I have to make it full screen each time.

Two thoughts:

• Prevent apps and windows from reopening on Mac - Apple Support : do the opposite of Step 3, which is don't close windows when quitting an app.
• Don't quit Safari. There is no particular need nor any benefit to quit apps, ever. You don't quit iPhone apps, right? Same thing applies to Macs.

1. Ensure your device is compatible

Before diving in, check that your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 or later. This nifty feature doesn't just snap a simple picture. Instead, it grabs entire webpages, lengthy emails, or full documents, and saves them as PDFs. 

So instead of a static image, you get a scrollable, interactive file that preserves all the content in its original format.

2. Open the page you want to screenshot

Open any app where you want to capture a long screenshot . This could be your web browser, email, a document viewer, or even a social media app.

For example, if you've searched for a PDF in the Google app, open that document fully. Scroll to the top of the content you want to capture to ensure you don't miss any information.

3. Take an initial screenshot

Use your device's standard screenshot method. On devices with a home button, press the home and side buttons simultaneously . For devices without a home button, press the side and volume up buttons together . 

After taking the screenshot, a small preview will appear in the bottom-left corner of your screen . Quickly tap this preview before it disappears.

4. Switch to full-page mode

In the preview screen, you'll see tabs at the top for Screen and Full Page. The Full Page option will only appear in instances where there is more than one page worth of content on-screen.

Then, tap Full Page to switch to the scrolling screenshot mode.

5. Markup your screenshot

At this stage, you can annotate your screenshot if desired. Use the pen or highlighter tools at the bottom of the screen to add marks, underline text, or emphasize specific areas before saving.

6. Adjust your capture

Use the sidebar slider to scroll through the entire captured page. You can also use the crop tool to adjust what parts of the page you want to keep.

7. Save your full-page screenshot

Once you're satisfied with your capture, tap Done and click Save PDF to Files. By mastering this feature, you'll be able to capture and share extensive content with ease.
