Saw these guys last night here in Citrus County at the Curtis Peterson auditorium, and they were fabulous, as usual. Even WITHOUT John Sebastian. All the songs sounded just like the original versions, and the group did a great job, as well as the whole show overall and the banter that they put on. Even had the opportunity to speak with them afterwards, what a nice group of Gentlemen. Will be glad to see them again in the future! Thanks guys!

It is pretty difficult when achieving your chart highs many decades ago to feel as though you have a place in the modern, everchanging music scene. It is probably due to this reason that New York folk rock Lovin' Spoonful stayed away for so long after achieving success in the 60s. There is no sign of original material in the making, the last studio album was released in 1969 however the band made such an impact with its sound and songs that the fans do not particularly mind the remaining musicians are revisiting old territory.
Although the original lineup is no longer in place, the musicians tonight know the discography well and play classics such as 'Summer in The City' with a good proficiency. They have a lot of skill for their years of practice and although they are not the liveliest group onstage, there is an endearing quality in the way they play 'Daydream' to close tonight before saying their thank yous and goodbyes.
There are plenty of artists from the sixties that have endured in one way or another - where The Beatles were concerned, itâs through the sheer enormity of their legacy, whilst The Rolling Stones actually remain a going concern all these years later - but some bands of the era do sound very much rooted in that time, and accordingly havenât been remembered quite as sharply - The Lovinâ Spoonful are a fine example of one such band. Technically speaking, theyâre actually still going, although they were inactive, save for one quick reunion in 1979, between 1969 and 1991. Theyâre best known for their number one hit âSummer in the Cityâ, and whilst they were very much a singles band, not an albums outfit - in fact, they havenât released a full-length since 1969 - they remain on the road, sporadically, today, playing their very sixties style of rock and roll with three members from the most recognised lineup remaining involved - guitarist Jerry Yester, singer Joe Butler and bass player Steve Boone. Their last UK dates were over a decade ago now, with the band mainly focusing on their native United States; theyâre undoubtedly straight-up nostalgia trips, but for their audience, thatâs apparently quite alright.

See Lovin’ Spoonful Members Reunite Onstage for First Time in 20 Years
By Daniel Kreps
Daniel Kreps
As promised , the surviving members of the Lovin’ Spoonful reunited onstage for the first time in 20 years Saturday at an all-star benefit concert celebrating the Sixties hitmakers.
John Sebastian and former band mates Joe Butler and Steve Boone performed together for the first time since their 2000 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, with the group delivering their hits “Summer in the City” and “Do You Believe in Magic?” Sebastian also played his solo single “Welcome Back.”
Micky Dolenz, Carnie Wilson, Dave Alvin, Iain Matthews, Susan Cowsill and more covered the Lovin’ Spoonful’s music at the Glendale, California benefit concert, the Wild Honey Orchestra’s annual show in support of the Autism Think Tank .
In the lead-up to the performance, Sebastian reiterated that the concert was not a proper Lovin’ Spoonful reunion, since co-founding member Zal Yanovsky died in 2002.

Cher turns the 2024 victoria's secret fashion show into a disco dance floor, my brother, eddie van halen: alex van halen tells all, jerry seinfeld admits he was wrong about that whole 'extreme left' ruined comedy thing.
“I’m delighted to be honored this month by the Wild Honey Orchestra, the musical team that’s doing an Autism Think Tank benefit this year in Glendale, California. And this year their subject is the Lovin’ Spoonful,” Sebastian said in a statement, noting that the performance isn’t a true Lovin’ Spoonful reunion.
Since Steve, Joe and I agreed to attend, I’ve gotten correspondence about a Lovin’ Spoonful ‘reunion,’ and I want to clarify. Spoonful reunions without Zalman (Zal) Yanovsky are more like get-togethers. Most of the music at the show is played by a great assortment of studio musicians, not always including us. It’ll be a blast but a reunion would be a misnomer.”

The Lovin’ Spoonful were America’s answer to the Beatles! The band, led by John Sebastian, Steve Boone, Joe Butler and Zal Yanovsky, exploded onto the charts sending their first 7 singles soaring onto Billboard’s top-10 charts virtually overnight.
The Spoonful formed in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1965 at the Night Owl Café and signed to Kama Sutra Records. They appeared on every major TV show of the era: The Ed Sullivan Show, Hullabaloo and Shindig! Their first single, “Do You Believe in Magic,” flew to the top of the charts and was followed by an unprecedented string of hits including: “Daydream,” “Younger Girl,” “Summer in the City,” “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” “Darling Be Home Soon,” “Jug band Music,” “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind,” “Lovin’ You,” “Didn’t Want to Have to Do it,” “Rain on the Roof,” “Six O’clock,” “Nashville Cats,” “Coconut Grove,” and “She’s Still a Mystery (to Me).”
The band was so influential that such music legends as Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson cited them as forces of inspiration as did so many others. John Lennon call them “tunesmiths!”
Today the Lovin’ Spoonful tours with founding member, Steve Boone, and Jeff Alan Ross, Bill Cinque, Rob Bonfiglio and Mike Auturi. Together they faithfully celebrate the rich, good-time catalog of hits that made them one of the world’s most beloved groups of the ‘60s. The Lovin’ Spoonful was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
