Where to Watch Bastille Day Fireworks in Paris

Are you wondering where to watch Bastille Day fireworks in Paris on July 14th?

The spectacular 35-minute show at the Eiffel Tower begins at 11pm, just as the summer sky finally turns dark.

If you're lucky enough to be in Paris on Bastille Day (or La Fête Nationale or Le Quatorze Juillet , as it's called in French), the elaborate display of fireworks provide a glorious ending to France's national holiday commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, seen as a turning point during the French Revolution.

Normally, the most iconic place to watch the fireworks is Champ de Mars, the expansive green space covering almost half a mile between the Eiffel Tower and École Militaire where up to a million spectators gather.

Joining the crowd at Champ de Mars also lets you hear the Bastille Day concert by the French National Orchestra, the Radio France Choir, and international soloists at the Eiffel Tower, which begins at 9:10pm and concludes right before the fireworks begin. 

But, in 2024, both Champ de Mars and Trocadero (another popular viewing spot) will be closed due to the Olympics preparations.

But don't worry.  You will be able to see the fireworks show  from any point in Paris where you can see the Eiffel Tower - and that includes a lot of places such as Seine River cruises, nearby streets, restaurants and rooftop bars, hotels with views of the tower, city parks, and even bridges. 

Take a look at all the other possibilities described in this article, and check out the photos to get a sense of what the view will be like.  Most of the fireworks shoot up high into the sky, so even if trees or buildings your view of the bottom of the Tower, you'll still be able to see the display at the top.

Best Locations for Viewing Bastille Day Fireworks at the Eiffel Tower in Paris

Normally, but NOT this year: Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower:  Best Place to See Bastille Day Fireworks & Hear the Concert

In case you're planning for next year, this is what you can expect:

To enjoy excellent close-up, unobstructed views of the fireworks lighting up the sky behind the Eiffel Tower and hear the pre-fireworks concert at the foot of the Tower, you'll want to head to Champ de Mars - but only if you can spend much of the day there. 

Because here's what you need to know:  Champ de Mars may be an ideal viewing spot for the fireworks, but it's not exactly a "hidden secret."  In fact, this highly popular location attracts up to 1 million people for this event.

So, in order to secure a spot on Champ de Mars, be prepared to arrive early.

How early? 

Many Parisians enjoy spending Bastille Day relaxing on Champ de Mars with friends and family, enjoying a picnic lunch with a bottle of wine or two, and perhaps taking short nap. 

As a result, it's not unusual to see people staking out their spots on the grass by noon or shortly thereafter.  By mid-afternoon, the space begins to fill up.  By an hour or two before the concert begins, squeezing in will be almost impossible.

If you're visiting Paris for only a short period, you may prefer to spend most of Bastille Day sightseeing, taking a cruise on the Seine, exploring a museum, or shopping (because remember, summer sales!).  But don't worry - try Tip 2 or Tip 3 below, or one of the other viewing options.

Finally, if you don't like big crowds, you probably won't enjoy being at Champ de Mars with approximately 999,999 other people.  So keep reading, because there are plenty of other spots you'll find more comfortable.

Pro tips:   

1)  Bring a blanket or towel to sit on, perhaps a picnic with wine (but remember that alcohol is prohibited starting at 4pm on Champ de Mars), and a  water bottle.   Sunblock and a hat are also a good idea.

2) If you don't want to spend all day here, one strategy is stop by in mid-to-late afternoon, and see if you can find a spot; if not, have a "Plan B" in mind - another location to watch from instead.

3) Another strategy is to arrive shortly before the fireworks begin but don't try to get close - instead, take a contrarian approach and head for Ecole Militaire across from the far end of the field near where most people will be standing and the crowds will usually be thinner.

Nearest metro and train stations:  La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle, Ecole Militaire, Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel (RER-C) - BUT these as well as other nearby streets and metro stations will close by 7pm (sometimes a little earlier) on Bastille Day.

Spending Bastille Day @ Champ de Mars: Paris Discovery Guide's Best Toilet Tips 

If you plan to spend the afternoon and evening at Champ de Mars before the concert and fireworks, be aware that there are very few public toilets in this area compared with the number of people who gather for the concerts and fireworks. 

Area cafés will not let you use their facilities unless you are there for a drink or a meal.  If (or when) the nearby cafes fill up to capacity, you'll be turned away for seating and therefore won't have access to their restrooms.

You can find a few public toilets at Parc Rives de Seine - the riverside park along the Left Bank of the Seine just beyond the Eiffel Tower.  They are usually reasonably clean thanks to their automatic sanitizing feature, and are a fine option if you're not at a cafe.  They're also free.

If all the nearby cafes are full, the Parc Rives port-a-potties may be your only option unless you want to keep walking further away from Champ de Mars in search of a less-packed cafe, or even return to your hotel if you're staying nearby.

Seine River Fireworks Cruises: Excellent Views of Bastille Day Fireworks

If you want to enjoy excellent, unobstructed close-up views of the fireworks without spending much of Bastille Day camped out on Champ de Mars to secure your spot, special fireworks dinner cruises on the Seine offer a fantastic experience.

You'll enjoy dinner, wine, and perhaps music and dancing as you float past all the iconic landmarks along the Seine and then watch the dazzling fireworks overhead.  

The most important thing for you to know:  If you want to join one of the fireworks cruises, book as soon as you know your travel dates.  They sell out much earlier than you might expect.

To avoid disappointment, call the restaurant if necessary to request a table with a good view and to confirm the correct time to reserve in order to see the fireworks:

• La Ciel de Paris Restaurant at Montparnasse Tower - The tower's observation deck will be closed by 11pm, but you get a direct view of the fireworks from the perfect height - and the food is very good too!  Book online
• Les Ombres at Musee du Quai Branly - Located on the museum's rooftop terrace and designed by famed architect Jean Nouvel, this gastronomy restaurant.   Book online
• La Terrass' Restaurant and Bar (12-14 Rue Joseph de Maistre, 18th arr) - Located on the 7th floor of the Terrass' Hotel perched high on a hill in Montmartre; although the bar doesn't take reservations, the restaurant does.   Book online; for the ultimate convenience after the fireworks end, stay in the 4-star Terrass' Hotel
• Girafe Paris near Trocadero and the Musee de l'Homme - Famous for its seafood - and the direct, stunning Eiffel Tower views from the terrace. Book online
• Monsieur Bleu - Also near Trocadero, with a fantastic terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower, plus a special prix-fixe Bastille Day menu.  Book online

Paris Hotels Overlooking the Eiffel Tower & Bastille Day Fireworks

Of course, staying in a hotel or apartment where you have an Eiffel Tower view gives you the ultimate convenience - great (even if obstructed) views of the fireworks show, plus no hassle getting back to where you're staying. 

Perhaps not surprisingly, many of the hotels offering the best views also command premium rates which soar even higher for the night of Bastille Day.  If they're in your budget, check out these hotels in the extra-special "Palace" tier of 5-star properties:

• Four Seasons George V , the largest of the Palace hotels in Paris, with superb views of the Eiffel Tower from its terraces and many guestrooms
• The Peninsula Paris , featuring fabulous Eiffel Tower views from its rooftop restaurant
• The Shangri-La , where you can splurge on a room with your own private terrace overlooking the "Iron Lady."

In a more affordable range, consider these 4-star properties:

• Hotel La Comtesse, in an amazing location overlooking a large intersection next to Champ de Mars which allows Eiffel Tower views from all 40 of its guestrooms; book.  Book a room with a balcony for the best views - the one where I stayed and took the photo above is the "Comtesse Room with Balcony."  (Room #506) 
• Pullman Eiffel Tower Hotel, located very close to the Eiffel Tower with spectacular views from many guestrooms as well as its gym (tip: when booking, make sure your room offers a view of the tower's top)
• Terrass' Hotel, overlooking the Eiffel Tower from its lofty perch on a Montmartre hill, with great views from the onsite restaurant and many guestrooms
• Le Damantin Hotel & Spa, located almost directly across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower, with superb views from many of the 44 guestrooms 
• Canopy Paris Trocadero Hotel by Hilton, where the large rooftop terrace bar offers direct Eiffel Tower views
• Hôtel Eiffel Trocadéro , a small boutique hotel almost directly across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower, with great views from a number of the guestrooms

More Locations Near the Eiffel Tower for Viewing the Bastille Day Fireworks

As mentioned earlier, you'll enjoy great views of the fireworks from any location where you can see at least the top half of the Eiffel Tower. 

Here are some specific suggestions close to the Eiffel Tower:

• Nearby streets on both sides of Champ des Mars with views of the Eiffel Tower; explore these areas prior to Bastille Day and choose your favorite location.  Rue de Grenelle, Avenue Rapp, Avenue de la Bourdonnaise, and Rue Saint-Dominique, for example, offer a number of spots with good views, such as this one from Rue Saint-Dominique

• The large intersection where five streets converge at the Ecole Militaire Metro intersection  across from Hotel La Comtesse in the 6th arr, where you can get this view (and also find several bars in case you need a coffee/toilet):

• Normally, any place along or near the banks of the Seine River with Eiffel Tower views, especially in the 16th and even the 8th arrondissements - but NOT in 2024; due to Olympics preparations, the upper quays will be closed to most traffic, and the lower quais along the river's edge will be closed to the general public (if you're a local resident, you should be able to access the lower quais with your QR code)
• Seine River bridges - Although Pont d'Iéna will be closed to use as a staging area for the fireworks, other bridges offering great views include Pont Bir Hakeim, Pont de l'Alma, Pont de Grenelle, Pond des Arts, Pont de la Concorde, and Pont Alexandre III - but keep in mind that restrictions may impact some of these bridges closer to the date
• Île des Cygnes in the Seine River (access it from the Pont de Grenelle or Pont de Bir-Hakeim bridge) - Trees somewhat block the views in some spots, but since most people forget about this sliver of an island, it's not usually too crowded
• Other locations in the 15th arrondissement -
• Place de la Concorde - Many spots with excellent views
• Tuileries Garden - Areas near the Louvre and also near the Orangerie Museum are best, as trees block the view in other parts of this park but as a bonus of you don't like dense crowds, it's not usually too crowded

NOT in 2024: Trocadero, directly across the Seine River - The viewing platform above the pool and fountain offers fantastic views, but be aware that crowds will be dense.  The slopes of Trocadero Gardens, especially near the top, are usually less packed.  You can also find decent views along the streets above Trocadero, include Avenue Georges Mandel and Avenue President Wilson

More Distant Locations with Views of Paris's Bastille Day Fireworks

These locations also offer views of the Eiffel Tower (and, therefore, the fireworks) - but they are somewhat-to-significantly further away and the fireworks views will feel fairly distant.

If you're staying near one of these places, they may work well for you.  If you're not, be aware that although the nearby metro stations will be open with trains running, there may be disruptions. 

Worst case, consider that you might have to walk back to where you're staying, so make sure that is feasible in terms of distance.

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

This gorgeous park in the 19th arrondissement on the edge of eastern Paris offers lovely skyline views from some areas, but the Eiffel Tower is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) away and barely visible in the above photo.  

Hint:   The tower is close to the tree top above the horizon on the right side of the photo.

On a positive note, although most Parisian parks (including Parc de Belleville, where you can find better views) close around 8:30pm - 10pm during the summer, Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is part of a small handful to stay open until 12 midnight from July 1st through early September.

Be aware:   Parts of this park are currently closed due to ongoing renovations and work to stabilize the terrain.  The slope shown in the above photos, which is near the Rosa Bonheur guinguette, appears to be in one of the open areas - but if you want to watch the fireworks from this park, consider going by on the day before just to confirm the views in the accessible areas.

Sacre Coeur Basilica

Set almost at the top of the highest hill in Montmartre in Paris's 18th arrondissement, Sacre Coeur commands sweeping views of Paris - but its view of the Eiffel Tower 3 miles (4.8 km) away is not the best (the view from the Terrass' Hotel is actually better directionally). 

However, the viewing platform and grassy lawn in front of Sacre Coeur are popular places to watch the fireworks, so if you choose this location, you'll have plenty of company.

Luxembourg Garden

Luxembourg Garden offers excellent upper views of the Eiffel Tower from a few locations in the park because it's less than two miles away. 

The catch?  1) The park usually closes before the fireworks begin, and 2) because of the park's numerous trees and slightly hilly terrain, you can only get decent views from a few spots, and you'll be competing with large crowds to get them. 

But on occasion, it has opened exceptionally for Bastille Day.  No word yet about this year - but stay tuned!

Practical Tips (& Tricks) for Viewing the Fireworks on Bastille Day in Paris

• Pickpockets - Will these scourges of crowded areas be present?  Yes, probably - but use your common sense and don't make yourself a target.  Carry just an official government ID (required of everyone according to French law), maybe 10 euros in case you need to buy a drink in a cafe to get access to a toilet, your metro pass or tickets, and any other absolute essentials.  If you don't plan to take photos, consider leaving your phone in your hotel safe.  And no matter how enraptured you may be by the fireworks, stay aware of your surroundings.
• Stay hydrated if you're going to be out in the sun before the festivities.  But don't drink so much that you need to find a toilet.  Yes, that's a tricky balance to achieve - so good luck!
• Choose a viewing location within easy walking distance from your hotel, because remember, metros near Champ de Mars shut down for the night at around 7pm, and there may also be service disruptions in other areas.  Don't count on getting an Uber or Bolt.
• Champ de Mars - If you only want to watch the fireworks from Champ de Mars but don't want to spend hours camped out on the lawn in order to have a good spot, consider arriving not long before the show begins and find a spot at the back near Ecole Militaire - Please note:  Due to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Champ de Mars will not be accessible this year.
• Wherever you decide to view the fireworks, position yourself on the edge of the crowd closest to your hotel or apartment if you want to make a speedy exit

On July 14, 2024, a spectacular fireworks display will be set off from the Eiffel Tower. The best place to see the display is from the Champ de Mars at the base of the tower or the plaza at Trocadéro across the river. However, you can also watch the fireworks anywhere along the Seine River in either direction from Trocadéro. (Last time we viewed it from the quay along the Seine just downstream from the Bir Hakeim bridge, where we took the photo.)

The festivities start at around 9:00 PM as people gather in the Champ de Mars for an outdoor music concert. The fireworks start at around 11 PM and last about 35 minutes.

Défilé Militaire du 14 Juillet – The Bastille Day Parade

The military parade has been held every July 14 since 1880. (As expected, though, there was no parade during the years of Nazi occupation during World War II.) It's a big deal and the event is broadcast on French television. If you want to get a glimpse of the President of France, or secure a good place to see the parade, make sure to arrive at least an hour before the start time.

Minute-by-minute description of the parade —

• 10:10 am: The President of France arrives at the Arc de Triomphe at Avenue de Friedland to inspect the troops.
• 10:25 am: A tribute is paid to the President of the France.
• 10:30 am: The opening ceremonies
• 10:44 am: The French acrobatic patrol (Patrouille Acrobatique de France) airplanes fly over
• 10:54 am: The foot troops commence
• 11:36 am: The motorized and mounted troops commence
• 11:51 am: The parade officially ends
• 11:55 am: The President departs

Fireman's ball.

The French adore their pompiers (firemen) and for good reason. Each year, on July 13 and 14, from 9 PM to 4 AM, the fire stations of Paris welcome visitors in an open house celebration. There's dancing, drinking and plenty of merriment. It's a very popular event, often with long lines. On 2024 we expect there will be some attention paid to crowd size, so check with your local fire station.

The Bastille Day celebrations are another reason for family and friends to gather outdoors for a picnic . If you could peek into one of their picnic baskets you might find strawberries, a baguette or two, cheeses, smoked chicken, pastries, summer fruit, and perhaps a bottle of champagne. In fact, the Louvre is not only open on Bastille Day, but admission is free to all! Given the crowds will gathering to see the parade, this might be the best day of the year to visit the Louvre. Paris Department Stores – Beautiful Adventures In Shopping …

The spectacular summer sales at the grands magasins should be be in full swing in July. Unlike other major French holidays, department stores will be open — including Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Le Bon Marché, BHV, Carrousel du Louvre, and Printemps.

Most restaurants will be open but we advise you to make a reservation just to be certain. Most food stores and other similar services will be open. Expect all government offices, banks, and some other museums to be closed.

Transportation

A lot of people will be out celebrating on Bastille Day, so taxis will be impossible to get in the evening along the Seine, the Champs-Elysées, and anywhere around the Eiffel Tower. The Metro and RER will be operating, although stations around the Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower will be closed at night — including Passy, Dupleix, Passy, Ecole Militaire, Iéna, Trocadéro, and La Motte-Piquet-Grenelle.

Bastille day fun facts.

Although there was a huge party held a year after the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789, Le Quatorze Juillet wasn't established as a French national holiday until 1880.

"Bastille" is derived from "Bastide", a French word meaning stronghold. And, in fact, there was a fortress on the site of Place de la Bastille from the 14th century. A later fortress built here was eventually turned into a prison.

When the Bastille prison was stormed in 1789, the mob did not find many prisoners — there were only seven people in captivity. The most famous of those was the Marquis de Sade.

When Louis XVI learned about the attack on the Bastille , he asked, "Is it a revolt?" His minister answered, "No my sovereign, it is a revolution."

The military parade held in Paris on Bastille Day is the largest and oldest such parade in Europe with dozens of horses, 30 helicopters, 50 planes, 200 military vehicles, and 3,500 soldiers.

If you want to sound like a vrai Parisien , don't call it "Bastille Day". Instead, opt for La Fête Nationale or Le Quatorze Juillet .

La Tour Eiffel s'est illuminée vendredi soir pour le traditionnel feu d'artifice du 14-Juillet.

Un festival de couleurs pour une soirée calme et festive. Une foule insouciante de touristes et de Parisiens  s'est massée vendredi soir pour admirer le traditionnel feu d'artifice du 14-Juillet tiré de la Tour Eiffel, à distance des violences urbaines du début de l'été et à un an des Jeux olympiques.

Selon la mairie de Paris, comme l'an passé, la zone sécurisée du Champ-de-Mars pouvait accueillir 70.000 personnes pour assister à un grand concert classique puis au spectacle pyrotechnique qui a suivi pendant une vingtaine de minutes, peu avant minuit.

Le «Concert de Paris», retransmis en mondovision, a été lancé peu après 21h,  Un concert de fête nationale qui s'est achevé, comme il se doit, par «La Marseillaise», entonnée cette année par une soprano guyanaise, Marie-Laure Garnier.

10.000 policiers et gendarmes sur le terrain

Le feu d'artifice s'est ensuite épanoui au son de musiques ultramarines cette année, contemplé par une foule dense devant la Dame de fer mais aussi de plus loin, comme au jardin des Tuileries ou depuis les ponts sur la Seine.

A Paris, environ 10.000 policiers et gendarmes étaient sur le terrain, dans la capitale et ses départements limitrophes, pour un 14-Juillet sous surveillance renforcée.

Le concert du 14 juillet au pied de la Tour Eiffel en direct sur France Inter, France 2 et dans le monde entier

Le Concert de Paris, devenu au fil des années le rendez-vous traditionnel du 14 juillet organisé à Paris, fête les plus grandes œuvres classiques interprétées par l’ Orchestre National de France , le Chœur  et la Maîtrise de Radio France avec la participation de nombreux artistes et solistes internationaux.

Dès 21h10  France Inter  vous propose de suivre le concert en direct lors d'une émission spéciale présenté par Anna Sigalevitch , ainsi que sur  France 2  et france.tv  présenté par Stéphane Bern.

Cette soirée sera retransmise en simultané sur les réseaux Euroradio et Eurovision de l’UER (Union Européenne de Radio-Télévision) sur les antennes de plus de 10 pays, ce qui en fait un des plus grands évènements de musique classique au monde, avec des millions d’auditeurs et de téléspectateurs.

Le dixième anniversaire du Concert de Paris au pied de la Tour Eiffel

Pour fêter le dixième anniversaire du Concert de Paris, L’ Orchestre National de France , le  Chœur  et la  Maîtrise de Radio France  ainsi que  les plus grands artistes et solistes internationaux  vous offriront un programme sur le thème de la Fraternité concocté par le chef d’orchestre Cristian Măcelaru avant d’entonner la traditionnelle et vibrante Marseillaise. Ainsi cette édition 2023 conclu un cycle de trois ans consacré aux termes de la devise française : Liberté (édition 2021), Égalité (édition 2022), Fraternité (édition 2023).

L’accès au concert est gratuit et sans réservation. Il est néanmoins conseillé d’arriver très en avance au Champ-de-Mars (des contrôles de sécurité sont à prévoir aux entrées du site). Attention : certaines stations de métro seront fermées ce jour-là.

MAISON DE STARS Thierry Marx, son habitation atypique avec vue sur la Tour Eiffel, 120 mètres carrés de pure tranquillité

Les années passent mais ne se ressemblent pas pour Thierry Marx. Le célèbre chef fête ce jeudi 19 septembre ses 65 ans et il peut largement se vanter de s'être construit une belle carrière. En effet, en plus d'être à la tête de plusieurs restaurants un peu partout dans le monde, il est également une personnalité télé très reconnue grâce à ses rôles de juré dans Top Chef ou encore MasterChef . Sa vie, Thierry Marx continue donc de la vivre à 100 à l'heure mais c'est pourtant la quiétude qu'il recherche et qui le rend le plus heureux.

Avec sa femme Mathilde de l'Ecotais, une photographe reconnue qui a collaboré à plusieurs reprises avec le chef étoilé pour ses ouvrages, il a justement trouvé son équilibre au sein d'un lieu insolite et très tranquille. Le couple s'est installé il y a des années sur une péniche de 120m², amarrée sur la Seine à Paris, au pied de la Tour Eiffel.

" J'ai toujours rêvé de vivre sur un bateau , cela ne fait pas très longtemps que j'y ai emménagé. Avant d'y poser mes valises, j'ai dû y faire quelques rénovations, notamment au niveau du plancher. Comme l'espace y est très réduit, tout est minimaliste chez moi, je me contente de peu. La déco y est très épurée et ponctuée de malles de voyage et d'objets chinés ", détaillait-il en 2018, pour Côté Maison . Il déclarait également : " Le mobilier de mon bateau se limite à ce qui est utile et minimaliste. " Quand j'ai un peu de temps devant moi, je prépare des fricassés ou des tagliatelles. Mais lorsque mes amis me prennent vraiment de court, je sers presque systématiquement des sardines à l'huile ou du hareng, si c'est la saison. Il faut aimer cela quand on vient chez moi ! Extinction de la Flamme

Léon Marchand , que nous avons vu partir du Jardin des Tuileries  tenant la Flamme Olympique dans une lanterne, fait son entrée dans le Stade de France.

La Flamme Olympique est éteinte.

Yseult interprète My Way  de Paul Anka, un titre iconique qui porte en lui un lien fort entre la France et les Etats-Unis.

Avec cette version à la fois poignante et intime, la chanteuse française parachève les séquences artistiques des cérémonies olympiques par ce message : « Voilà, nous l’avons fait comme ça. »

L’hymne national américain est interprété par l’artiste musicale lauréate de cinq Grammy Awards, d’un Oscar et d’un Emmy, H.E.R.

Tom Cruise arrive sur la pelouse du Stade de France pour récupérer le drapeau olympique et l'emmener à Los Angeles sur By The Way des Red Hot Chili Peppers . Il le remet à Kate Courtney , qui le transmet à Michael Johnson , puis il revient à Jagger Eaton . Les Red Hot enchaînent en live depuis Los Angeles par un classique : Can't Stop .

Hymne et remise du drapeau olympique

L’hymne olympique retentit, interprété par la Maîtrise de Fontainebleau et l’orchestre Divertimento, tandis que le drapeau olympique est descendu par des membres de plusieurs corps de l’Armée française. 

Portant le drapeau olympique, la maire de Paris, Anne Hidalgo, rejoint Thomas Bach sur l'espace scénique tandis que la maire de Los Angeles, Karen Bass, se dirige elle aussi vers le Président du CIO.

Tous trois sont symboliquement réunis entre l’Europe et l’Amérique du Nord, au-dessus de l’Océan Atlantique. La maire de Paris remet le drapeau olympique au Président du CIO qui le transmet à la maire de Los Angeles qui l’emmène jusqu’à l’emplacement de la Californie.

Place ensuite au segment artistique de la future ville-hôte des Jeux 2028 en conclusion de cette cérémonie de passation

Tony Estanguet et Thomas Bach prennent la parole

Au centre de la scène, depuis la passerelle qui relie les continents,  Tony Estanguet, Président du Comité d’organisation des Jeux  de Paris 2024 adresse son discours de clôture.  Thomas Bach, Président du Comité International Olympique,  prend ensuite la parole. 

Ils sont accompagnés d'athlètes représentant chaque continent : 

• Cindy Winner Djankeu Ngamba (boxe) pour l'équipe des réfugiés olympiques
• Sun Yingsha (tennis de table) pour l'Asie
• Eliud Kipchoge (athlétisme) pour l'Afrique
• Mijain Lopez (lutte) pour l'Amérique
• Teddy Riner (judo) pour l'Europe
• Emma McKeon (natation) pour l'Océanie

La chanteuse Angèle se joint au groupe Phoenix avec Kavinsky pour offrir un show mémorable.

L'ARRIVÉE DU GOLDEN VOYAGER 

La nuit est tombée, le Stade de France se mue en un immense théâtre. Nous voilà transportés vers un autre espace-temps, dans un monde à la fois sombre, désertique et mystérieux. 

Surgissant du ciel, le Golden Voyager vient atterrir sous nos yeux dans une mise en scène spectaculaire, qui repose sur l’utilisation magistrale du clair-obscur et des jeux de lumière, magnifiée par une musique épique de Clément Mirguet, caractéristique de l’univers artistique de Thomas Jolly.

Ce dernier nous emmène dans les pas de ce voyageur, dans une  quête onirique jusqu’aux fondements de l’humanité.

Hommages olympiques

Comme le veut le protocole olympique, la cérémonie se poursuit  par la présentation des membres (Jessica Fox, Allyson Felix, Marcus Daniell, Kim Bui) nouvellement élus de la Commission des athlètes du CIO.

Remerciement aux volontaires

Au nom des athlètes, ces nouveaux membres rendent hommage  aux volontaires. Par leur énergie, leur engagement et leur bonne  humeur, les 45 000 volontaires des Jeux de Paris 2024 contribuent  à la réussite de l’événement.

Remise des médailles du marathon féminin

La célébration des athlètes se poursuit. Pour la première fois, le Marathon féminin a conclu les Jeux Olympiques. 

Les héroïnes de cette épreuve mythique sont mises en lumière de manière inédite, cette ultime cérémonie de la victoire vient conclure les premiers Jeux Olympiques paritaires de l’histoire.

La boucle musicale est bouclée

La playlist de la cérémonie d'ouverture, qui alterne entre Michel Polnareff, Johnny et M83, et qui avait ravi le public fait, elle aussi, son tour d'honneur en même temps que la délégation française.

Un karaoké géant est même lancé par la voix de Denis Brogniart. Charles Aznavour, Joe Dassin et Gala sont chantés en chœur par le public du Stade de France.

Le classique de Johnny qui a rythmé ces JO de Paris 2024 résonne une dernière fois dans le Stade de France.

L'entrée des drapeaux et la parade des athlètes commence

Les porte-drapeaux de chacune des 205 délégations olympiques participantes commencent à entrer dans le stade. Ils défilent sur la scène qui représente symboliquement un planisphère.

L’entrée des porte-drapeaux et la parade des athlètes sonnent comme l’ultime célébration des héros des Jeux Olympiques de Paris 2024.

Présentation officielle, le drapeau et l'hymne français

Le Président de la République française, Emmanuel Macron, et le Président du Comité International Olympique (CIO), Thomas Bach, font leur entrée dans la tribune officielle  du Stade de France. 

Le drapeau de la France entre dans le stade, porté par plusieurs  corps de l'Armée française. Il est hissé tandis que l’hymne  national, la Marseillaise , est interprété par la Maîtrise de  Fontainebleau accompagnée par l’Orchestre Divertimento,  dirigé par la cheffe d’orchestre Zahia Ziouani.

SOUS LE CIEL DE PARIS

La cérémonie débute par une performance musicale comme  une ode à la ville-hôte des Jeux.

Au cœur du domaine du Louvre, autour du bassin du Jardin des  Tuileries, l’artiste française Zaho de Sagazan et le Chœur de  l’Académie Haendel-Hendrix, interprètent la célèbre chanson  Sous le ciel de Paris .

Léon Marchand se saisit de la lanterne où brûle la Flamme olympique et lui fait faire le chemin en sens inverse de celui de la cérémonie d'ouverture. La Flamme revient au Stade de France.

Antoine Dupont , champion olympique de rugby à 7 avec la France, a livré son sentiment à l’idée d’être porte-drapeaux de la délégation française.

« C’est un réel honneur pour moi que l’on m’ait proposé d’être porte-drapeau de la délégation. C’était ma première expérience olympique, on ne peut pas se rendre compte de la puissance que représentent les Jeux tant qu’on ne l’a pas vécu de l’intérieur. »

« En plus, on a vécu ça en France, à Paris avec une organisation incroyable dans des lieux incroyables qui a célébré et mis en lumière le patrimoine français. Les résultats de tous les athlètes ont aussi été incroyables et il y a eu une communion de tous les Français qui se sont rassemblés et qui ont poussé fort derrière chaque équipe et chaque athlète. On n’a entendu parler que de sport pendant quinze jours, ça a été une parenthèse magique et pouvoir clore cet événement de cette manière-là, c’est beaucoup d’émotions. »

« Remplir ce rôle-là, quand on connait la symbolique qui entoure les porte-drapeaux, quand on connait les grands athlètes qui ont occupé ce rôle avant moi, c’est une réelle fierté. »

« C’était une grande surprise, surtout qu’on m’a appelé hier pour me le proposer. Je me suis demandé si j’étais légitime et je me suis dit que si on me l’avait proposé, c’est qu’il fallait que j’accepte. Je vais savourer à 200 %. »
