Selwo Adventure Park

Selwo adventure - estepona.

Selwo is a fascinating adventure in contact with nature. The park covers 100 hectares and is home to more than 2,000 animals from the five continents. The animals live in liberty, recreating their natural habitat - you can see lions, rhinos and giraffes; gnus, cheetahs, red pandas, meekats, and the endangered Iberian lynx; also birds such as hornbill, ibis, stork and crane. Visitors are taken on a four-hour tour, on foot and in four-wheel drive trucks. Also other activities: camel rides, archery, an elastic jumper, and the longest zipwire in Europe - 116m.

There's an area where you can get up close with goats, lemurs and zebra foals, while there's a mini-zoo with chickens, turkeys, sheep, pigs and rabbits.

Opening hours: 10.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs, 19.00 hrs or 20.00 hrs  (closing time becomes progresively later towards summer).

Selwo Aventura - Estepona

This wildlife adventure park of one million square meters offers its visitors the chance to see over 2000 animals from every continent roaming in semi-free conditions.

How to get there:  A7- Autovía Costa del Sol, exit km 162,5.  Opening hours  vary according to season, but generally closed from December-February. From March-June open 10:00-18:00 (till 19:00 on weekends) and July and August have extended closing time until 20:00. MarbellaFamilyFun  grade: 8.3

Son's evaluation: Selwo Aventura is a place where you can experience rare animals. If you want to look around, you should take the truck that travels around Selwo. However, the food was really bad. Grade: 9.0

Daughter's evaluation: I like the petting zoo because you could touch lots of animals. The best part was watching the monkeys. The food was bad. It was fun going over the really wobbly bridges. Grade: 7.0

Mom's evaluation: This a great place to see plenty of animals roaming free in their natural habitat. You can easily spend 3 hours, half walking and half riding in open-air jeeps. 

There is a friendly petting zoo where kids can see amd touch farm animals (don't forget your wet wipes!). There is quite a bit of walking, so make sure you bring strollers for little ones. Although, I am not sure how you get across the three wobbly suspension bridges with them on your way back down. Once you reach the top the jeeps drop you off and there is a fun trail walk to the bottom. 

On the way to the exit you can cross through an aviary where there are lush gardens and lots of different types of birds. If you have a stroller I think you can probably take the jeeps back down instead of doing the trail. 

Don't wait to eat until you get to the top. Although it is a larger restaurant, the food is horrible. It is better to eat burgers/hot dogs at the cafe near the bat caves on the second level. Grade: 9.0

Dad's evaluation: Selwo is a large park where you can spend a whole day. We enjoyed the monkeys, the truck ride, the camel ride, the suspended bridges... Bring a snack as the cafeteria is pricey and not very good. On hot days, it can be quite tiring - do not forget your sun block. The good thing: kids tend to sleep well at night after a visit to Selwo... Grade: 8.0

Belaiche family (Marbella) grade: 8.0

Mom: We really liked Selwo Aventura wildlife park. It was so nice to have a safari-type excursion seeing animals roam free in the wild as opposed to being locked up in cages. The kids loved seeing all the animals and particularly liked the little petting zoo they had at the beginning of the park. We even saw newborn piglets. 

We managed to see the park in about 3 hours and got to the very top in the safari jeeps and walking back along the trail crossing several suspension bridges along the way. We got there mid-day and found it to be extremely hot. It is now August and the heat is quite unbearable so we really appreciated the water sprayers that are strategically placed throughout the park at various points. 

My 6 year old got really tired towards the end so we skipped the aviary atrium and just took the jeep back down. 

Although we had a good time at Selwo Aventura, one of the biggest disappointments was waiting for the jeeps to take us up the first hill. First of all, we had a hard time finding them as the pick-up point wasn´t very well marked. Everyone told us it was near the monkeys, but we had such a hard time finding it. After we finally got there we sat in the jeeps but they didn´t move for 40 minutes! So we wasted quite a bit of time just hanging around waiting for them to go. I wish they had a sign or something posting the departure times so that we could have walked around a bit more discovering the park. 

Other than that, we enjoyed our experience and highly recommend others to visit Selwo Aventura. Grade: 8.0

Selwo Aventura – A theme park in Estepona to visit in 2021

Selwo Aventura is a theme park in Estepona that offers visitors a unique experience. It is the new concept of zoo and tourist symbol of the town of Estepona.

The park with more than one million square meters, offers a varied terrain that adapts to the habitats of more than 1000 different animal species from different continents, living in semi-freedom.

Activities in Selwo Aventura

The park also offers numerous activities for all ages that we will see below. It is certainly a recommended visit, especially if you are travelling with children and want them to have an unforgettable day.

Hanging bridges

In the territory there are 3 suspension bridges that you can cross and from where you will get a privileged view of the area. You can observe from the heights how the lynxes live or even cross a river, in the purest African style.

Bungee Trampolines

On the shores of a large lake, these trampolines will allow the little ones to make huge jumps of up to 8 metres in height while they perform all kinds of pirouettes in the air.

Educational talks

Expert monitors give fun and interesting talks about the different animals in the park. Did you know that each giraffe has a unique spotting pattern? And that the cheetah can run from 0 to 100 in 5 seconds? Or that driving a car might not be enough to escape from its claws?

Ask when you enter the park about the schedule of the talks on the day you visit to find out many other interesting facts about the animal world.

4×4 Tour

The Selwo Safari offers you the chance to get to know some of the park’s animal species up close. Together with an instructor you will go through the Lakes Reserve on board a 4×4 and you will be able to see hippos, giraffes or zebras among many other animals of the park.

Live an adventure and feel like an African safari at Selwo Aventura, although this activity requires a reservation and is paid separately. You can call 952 577 773 to confirm availability.

Obama VIP Tour

This type of visit is the most exclusive and is aimed at small groups. You will be accompanied at all times by a monitor who will guide you on an exclusive tour both on foot and on board a vehicle.

The VIP tour includes parts of the route that Obama took when he visited the park and which are not open to the public. You will be able to get a closer look at some of the zoo’s most emblematic species.

Visiting Selwo Aventura

In Selwo there are different areas, each with its own activities and particularities.

Gate of Nature

The first thing you come across when you enter Selwo Aventura is the Gateway of Nature, an area of lush vegetation surrounding a large lake with a hanging bridge.

Here you’ll find cheetahs, red pandas, hyenas and many other animals. There is also a zip line, with which you can zip across the lake, trampolines and archery, with which you can demonstrate your skills.

There is also a 65-metre long, 15-metre high suspension bridge across the lake.

At the end of the area you will pass through the territory of Madagascar, where you will meet the lemurs.

Bird Canyon

After the territory of Madagascar we arrive at the Bird Canyon, an area with different territories where we will not only see birds brought from all corners of our planet.

You will pass through the territory of the Iberian lynxes and over a suspension bridge that offers a panoramic view of the area.

At the Otter Waterfall you will be able to observe how this friendly animal behaves both outdoors and underwater.

Central Village

After the great Africa Bridge we enter the Central Village, from where you can observe the Elephant Territory and other species that inhabit this reserve. There are giraffes, zebras, hippos, rhinos and many other animals representative of the African savannah.

You can’t miss the lion, with its own territory, which you can observe from a very short distance. You will also find a faithful representation of a cave where the fruit bat lives.

*The Central Village closes one hour before the rest of the park.

Eating and drinking in the park

In the Portico de la Naturaleza you will find a restaurant with grill and breakfast offers, as well as a souvenir and photo shop.

In the Central Village you will find the Korongo restaurant, with self-service and fast food. Highlights include paella, pasta, salads and fish dishes. If you want to cool off, the Soko ice-cream parlour might be of interest.

How to get to Selwo Aventura

You can get to the park by car or bus, although the bus is subject to availability and requires prior booking.  The bus when in operation runs from Malaga to the main towns on the Costa del Sol.

If you are driving, the best option is to follow the AP-7 motorway towards Marbella. Do not take the toll motorway and follow the A-7 San Pedro de Alcántara, Estepona, Algeciras.

Selwo Aventura is located after a detour just before arriving in Estepona, you will see the sign “Parque Zoológico” on the road.

Don’t have a car? You may be interested in renting a car in Malaga or perhaps a transfer at a good price.

This zoo is not open all month, so you will have to plan your visit.

It opens its doors on 23 April from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

How to buy tickets

You can buy your tickets at the ticket office, although there is a significant discount if you buy them online. You can download the park’s app, which you can use to pay for your tickets and get detailed information about the park.

The normal ticket does not include safari or VIP visit.

• Children between 3 and 10 years old, over 65, disabled or large families: 18 euros or 16,90 online.

• - You must arrive at the park 30 minutes before your reservation time.
• - Equipment will be handed in 15 minutes before the closing time of the park.
• - Your tickets allows you up to 3 hours of adventure in the trees.

What are the requirements for participating in the activities at AVENTURA AMAZONIA?

You need to be at least 6 years old, with a minimum height of 1.15m, maximum weight of 130kg and in physical and mental condition that is appropriate for participating in the activities. For the MiniKids zone you need to be at last 4 years old.

What kind of clothing should I wear?

Comfortable clothes and sports shoes (or soft climbing boots). Depending on the time of year and the location of the park, you should wear warmer or cooler clothing.

Should I wear gloves?

Gloves are not necessary. If you want to use them you can bring them (typical fingerless cycling gloves), or buy them in the park.

Why do I need to arrive half an hour before the start of the activity?

We give you a specific time for the initiation course, which all participants have to complete. Equipment needs to be in place, and paperwork, payment etc. completed before the course begins.

You need to be at least 6 years old, with a minimum height of 1.15m, maximum weight of 130kg and in physical and mental condition that is appropriate for participating in the activities. For the MiniKids zone you need to be at last 4 years old. It is not advisable to participate people with coronary bypass or similar devices.

Gloves are not necessary. If you want to use them you can bring them (typical fingerless cycling gloves), or buy them in the park.

Why can’t I take part if don’t meet the requisites?

If the minimum requisites for height and size, and the maximum weight and physical and mental conditions are not met, the activity could potentially be unsafe and physically impossible. We can only guarantee safety if the activity is performed within these parameters.

Is it necessary to make a reservation?

There is no need to reserve, but it is highly recommended.  This way, we can guarantee you a time slot on the day and at the time you have chosen for carrying out the activities.  

When is the park operation suspended?

The facilities are prepared for exposure to adverse weather conditions.  Operations are suspended in extreme conditions of wind, rain or any other unfavorable condition that might cause a hazard to operations.

What am I entitled to?

• 3-hour stay in our park
• “Personal Protection Equipment”, consisting of harness, double safety anchorage with carabiners, and pulley for the zip-lines.
• Introduction course, in which we show you how to handle the Personal Protection Equipment, the basic safety rules that must be observed in the park, and how to perform the activities.
• Accident insurance.

How long does it take to complete each multi-adventure circuit?

The circuits at Aventura Amazonia are of varying length, depending on the park you have chosen, but as a guide, it takes between 30 and 45 minutes.

Why do I have to do the Introduction Course?

The course provides you with the skill and autonomy to tackle the high level challenges.

Is it safe?

It’s a totally safe activity, provided that the minimum participation requirements are met, and the basic safety rules we teach you in the initiation course are respected. And for your added safety, we use "smart carabiners" in the parks in Cercedilla, Pelayos and Marbella.

¿Are there many zip-lines? Are they very long?

The zip-line is one of the most popular challenges, which is why they are present in all our parks and on all the circuits.  In each adventure park you will find a minimum of 15 zip-lines, but there are Aventura Amazonia parks with more than 33. Depending on the park, you will find longer or shorter zip-lines, but in all the parks there are zip-lines of over 200m.  At AVENTURA AMAZONIA PELAYOS park in Madrid, you can enjoy the longest treetop zip-line in Spain, 252m long, a real Super Zipline with a maximum speed of 60Km/h. In Marbella the longest is 241m.!!
