5 Top Best RV Transport Companies

Published on October 8th, 2021 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on August 2nd, 2024

Looking for the best RV transport companies because your motorhome won’t start and you need to get it to the shop. Perhaps you need to move your fifth wheel across the country but don’t have a vehicle you think is dependable enough to make the trip. Let take a look at the 5 RV transport companies we think are some of the best in the country.

What is an RV transport company?

Well, honestly, it is exactly what it sounds like. It is a company that hauls, or transports, RVs for a fee. They often haul RVs from manufacturers to dealerships but they can also be contracted for personal use by the average person.

If you have an RV you need to be moved, and do not want to or cannot move it yourself, an RV transport is something you should consider.

We have a few tips that will help you find the right RV moving company for you.

Tip 1: Do Your Due Diligence

We recommend doing more than the basic search for the right company. Things we encourage you to check include:

  • The company’s credentials.  Registered companies will have an MC – Motor Carrier – a number that you can easily verify through the department of transportation’s website.
  • Their reviews from third-party sites such as Google Reviews, Transport Reviews, Trust Pilot, or the Better Business Bureau
  • The company’s insurance policy – Make sure your RV is protected from damage as a result of negligence from the driver or equipment failure
  • If you choose to go with a shipping company and not one that advertises as an RV transport business be sure to ask if they have ever shipped an RV before

Your RV was a large investment and you want to be sure those handling it are reputable. Yes, this may seem like unnecessary, even time-consuming work, but it could save you from situations that are costly and stressful in the future.

Tip 2: Understand RV Transport Company Pricing

Prices are based on many factors.  Some of those factors include:

  • The distance you are moving the RV
  • The weight of the RV
  • The price of gas
  • Possible toll charges

The companies you compare should have similar pricing across the board. Keep in mind, this is not the time to be frugal. Cheaper is not always better, in fact, in most cases, you will be getting what you pay for.

When you get quotes from transporters, they should all be relatively close in amount, steer clear of the outliers, unless you are confident they will deliver on their promises of cheaper service.

Tip 3: How to prepare your RV for transport

You want to minimize the chance of anything being damaged while your RV is being moved.  We recommend taking these steps:

  • Remove anything valuable from the RV and, if possible, lock it. We’d like to believe that all transport companies hire the most trustworthy employees but why add the temptation?
  • While you are removing all valuables go ahead and remove as much as you can from the inside.  Removing weight could be a simple way to reduce the cost of transport.
  • Secure any items outside the RV that cannot be removed to avoid damage during transport.
  • Disconnect the electric and gas

When you discover that you’re in need of an RV transport company you’ll find thousands of businesses online that would love to haul your RV for you.  Let us help you narrow down your search.

Here is our list of the Top 5 Best RV Transport Companies:

Horizon transport.

Located in Wakarusa, Indiana, Horizon Transport is one of North America’s largest RV transporters.  They offer three different types of transports:

  • Tow Away – Drivers connect your RV to their personally owned pickup trucks and pull your RV wherever you want, across the country, one at a time.
  • Flatbed – Drivers own larger trucks with flatbed trailers that they use to haul more than one RV or vehicle at a time.
  • Drive-Away – Horizon Transport drivers will drive your motorhome to your chosen destination.

Horizon Transport will move your RV anywhere within the continental US and Canada.

Horizon started in 1984 with 10 drivers but now has an independent contractor base of over 1,500 drivers and delivers around 80,000 vehicles a year.

You will have to create a login at their website to access things like online quotes or to place an order.  Almost all the info you will need will have to be found once you log in.

Shiply is a network of 243,872 shipping companies.  The company takes your information and gets you quotes from the companies within their network.  They also supply previous customer reviews to better help you decide from the companies who send you quotes.

Shiply will provide you with direct contact information for any of the companies that send you a quote so that you may reach out to them with any questions you have.

If Shiply has to come to get your item, there is an additional fee for remote areas.

According to their website, the average cost to ship large items starts at $1.81 per mile for short distances and .59 per mile for longer distances. Please keep in mind those amounts will change based on the size and weight of your RV.

Because they are introducing you to shipping/transport companies remember to do your due diligence, as mentioned above, with any recommended company before you contract their services. We recommend, at a minimum, asking if they’ve ever shipped an RV before.

Their website offers a detailed area to help you prepare your RV for shipping and general FAQs.

Nationwide United Auto Transport

Nationwide United Auto Transport offers the same type of travel trailer, RV motorhome, or camper hauling as others we’ve listed but without drive-away services.  One notable difference is they offer expedited transport, next-day or same-day services, when available.

They have 24-hour, 7 days a week help and support over the phone.  Their website even has a place where you can click the state you’re transporting to or from and get detailed information concerning transport regulations for those specific states.

Nationwide United Auto Transport will need you to meet their drivers with your trailer in an area that is spacious enough to allow for safe and easy loading of your RV.

They offer instant, clear, and concise quotes by calling their help desk. Your quote will have all the fees listed.  There are no additional fees after you schedule a pick-up for your trailer.

Heavy Haulers

Heavy Haulers is an RV moving company with over a decade of experience that can haul or ship, RV classes A, B, and C, travel trailers, and campers.  They also offer RV drive-away services and motorhome towing.

Heavy Haulers covers every step of the process for you, such as the paperwork, permits, most affordable rates, and route planning.  They offer to pick up and drop off in all fifty states.

This company will provide free cancellations, 24/7 customer service, door-to-door transport, and contingency insurance.

One thing Heavy Haulers does that we haven’t seen with the other companies provides photos and bios of their entire team, from HR to transport specialists, on their website.  This feature gives a more friendly feel to the company and even a little more peace of mind by being able to read about the men or women who will be taking responsibility for your RV as it is transported.

uShip is an open marketplace that connects you with customer-reviewed service providers.  They prefer most if not all, your business is done via their free mobile app.

The app helps you connect more efficiently with your service provider (the person hauling your RV), receive shipment notifications, and quickly release payments upon delivery.

Their website also boasts a shipping cost calculator to help you get a rough idea of the rates you can expect based on the data you enter about your RV.

Payments for uShip are done through their proprietary payment system called “uShip Payments”.  All payments are due, in full, at the time of booking.  The payment; however, isn’t released until you give the driver a code after you’ve received delivery of your RV.

Final Thoughts on Best RV Transport Companies

There are countless options for RV transport companies online, if you follow our advice by thoroughly investigating whichever company you choose, making sure you understand the price calculation and your final bill and preparing your RV for shipment/transport, we know this is a seemingly overwhelming process will be stress and hassle-free.  Good luck!

How much does RV transport cost?

When considering the cost of RV transport, it’s important to understand that there is no set cost. Every transport request is unique, with its own set of requirements, meaning that no two transports are ever exactly the same. Here are some general factors that are taken into account when determining the cost of RV transport:

Factor 1: Distance Where are we picking up and delivering your RV or trailer? The distance of the shipment is one of the most significant factors that will determine the cost. Longer distances will typically cost more than shorter ones.

Factor 2: Type of RV or Trailer What’s the year make and model of your RV or trailer? Larger, heavier units, such as Class A motorhomes, will cost more to transport than smaller Pop Up campers.

Factor 3: Shipping Method Do you prefer tow-away, hauling or driveaway service? Although most of the RVs and trailers we move are via our towing service, we also offer hauling service for units that cannot be towed on their own and driveaway service for motorhomes.

Factor 4: Seasonality When is your RV or trailer ready for transport? The time of year can also affect the cost of shipping. Shipping demand during summer months is typically higher which can drive up prices. Alternatively, in the off-season, less demand can lead to lower prices.

How to prepare your RV for shipping

We ask that you carefully prepare your RV or travel trailer. Following these simple steps will help make sure that there are no safety incidents or delays during transport.

Check your trailer lights

Check your trailer lights to ensure they are working properly. ( brake, turn, clearance, license plate etc.) Trailer Wheels & Axles: Inspect the wheels and axles on your trailer for proper lubrication. It is recommended that bearings, bearing seals and bearing cups on a trailer be greased every 12 months or 12,000 miles.

Check your trailer’s weight rating

Do NOT overload your RV trailer. Check the gross trailer weight rating (GTWR) of your trailer to prevent overloading. Overloading your RV trailer can lead to tire blowouts, resulting in damage to the trailer.

Secure personal items

Any personal items inside your trailer or RV must be properly secured. Make sure cabinet doors are closed, locked if possible, and any items that are not mounted, be removed or placed in a secure area in the trailer.

Disconnect power supply

Disable your trailer’s power supply to prevent any accidental activation of electrical components or battery drainage. Unplugging appliances and disconnecting the battery are two ways to effectively shut down the power supply.

Remove hazardous materials

Gas tanks, propane tanks, ammunition or any possible dangerous materials should be removed from the trailer. Our carriers can be fined if such items are found in the trailer while in transport.

Understanding trailer transport differences.

It’s important to understand the differences in recreation vehicles, travel trailers and campers, especially when it comes time to transporting. Although these terms — among others — are often used interchangeably, there are some notable differences.

RV Transport

Recreational vehicles are typically some sort of motor-home. They are equipped with a few of the amenities of home and can be motorized or non-motorized. RV movers will generally haul, tow or drive-away the recreational vehicle to its destination.

  • RV Towing: Most often, a dually pickup truck with a matching hitch will hook up and tow the RV.
  • RV Hauling: Recreational vehicle is loaded on to a wedge or flatbed trailer for transport. There is no towing involved.

Trailer Transport

Trailers are basically an unpowered vehicle towed by another. Trailers are used for a combination of things, but generally the function of a trailer is to haul something. The important thing to know about a trailer is that they are not motorized.

  • Trailer Towing: Most often, a dually pickup truck with a matching Bumper Pull or Fifth-Wheel hitch will hook up and tow the trailer.
  • Trailer Hauling: Trailer is loaded on to another wedge or flatbed trailer for transport. There is no hooking and towing involved.

Camper Transport

Camper is another term for travel trailers. Campers come in a variety of trailers such as popups, truck campers, teardrops and others.

  • Camper Towing: Most often, our camper movers will have a dually pickup truck that will hook up and tow the camper.
  • Camper Hauling: Camper is loaded on to a wedge or flatbed type trailer for transport.

Motorhome Transport

A “motorhome” is another term for recreational vehicles (RVs). Motorhomes can vary in size and style, including Class A, Class B, and Class C motorhomes.

  • Motorhome Hauling: Motorhomes that are too big, heavy, or non-operational, are moved using our flatbed hauling service.

How to Ship a Travel Trailer with Heavy Haulers

Each type of oversized equipment needs a different type of care and handling to ship. When your shipping a travel trailer, it's similar to shipping a school bus, in that there's no way to make it smaller. Lower decked trailers allow your travel trailer to pass under lower clearances on the road. At Heavy Haulers, we have access to a wide range of trailers and rigs, to get just the perfect one for you. Travel Trailer are typically shipped using either a heavy-duty pickup or a larger trailer and rig.

We carefully inspect your travel trailer for shipment, making sure that the tires are inflated to the proper pressure and in acceptable condition and the lights are working. We also make sure that the vents and doors are closed and secured. Finally, we inspect the hitch, to make sure there aren't any problems and it can be safely towed.

The Best Transport Rigs for Shipping Travel Trailers

Choosing the best rig for shipping your travel trailer is important, depending on what type of RV travel trailer you have, Heavy Haulers have the equipment to pull many different hitch types, such as a fifth wheel, goosenecks, Pinter hooks, and various ball hitches. We can transport any travel trailer, despite its size or dimensions. Larger units will require permits and these costs will be figured into your quote.

Travel trailers are generally shipped on a step-deck or lowboy trailer, with an attachable fifth wheel in the truck to load up. These trailers are similar to flatbeds but stronger, to accommodate the extra weight of an RV.

Preparing Your Travel Trailer RV for Transport

Carefully preparing your travel trailer for shipment is the responsibility of the owner. Here are the following steps that Heavy Haulers requires of you before we load your travel trailer for shipment:

● Make sure that your lights are working properly. These include brake lights and turn signals.

● Inspect the wheels and axles of your trailer and make sure that they're properly lubricated. The general rule of thumb is greasing the bearings, seals, and cups every 12,000 miles or every 12months.

● Check the weight of your RV and make sure that you give us the correct dimensions so that we don't overload the RV trailer

● Inspect the hitch to make sure it's in good working condition

● Secure any personal items in your RV. Close all the cabinet doors and lock them if possible. Make sure that any items you have mounted inside are removed and stowed securely.

● Disable the RV's power supply

● Any hazardous materials, such as propane or gas tanks, or hunting guns and ammunition must be removed from the RV trailer. Our drivers may receive a fine if these are transported inside.

  • The transport method: Flatbed RV services and driver RV transport tend to be more expensive compared to tow-away services, as they often require specialized equipment or professional drivers.
  • Timing and season: There are busy times in shipping and peak season periods often result in an increased price, due to the demand for transport services.

Becoming An RV Transporter: Is It Worth It Or Not?

Photo of author

The last time you went looking at new RV’s at the dealer’s lot, did you ever wonder just how all those new rigs get from the factory to the dealer?

Several RVs on the RV dealer's lot for sale.

Transporters, thousands of men and women, actually drive or tow new motorhomes and trailers across the country from their point of manufacture to the dealers who sell them.

Fleetwood , Country Coach , no matter the brand, they all must be driven (or pulled) from the factory to the dealership.

I worked for an RV transport company in Tucson for about 6 months. During that time, I transported everything from small travel trailers to $400,000 luxury motorhomes all over the country for hire.

Following are some interesting things I’ve learned firsthand about the business of transporting RVs.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming an RV transporter, there are a few things you might want to consider before you sign up to transport motorhomes or RV trailers for the first time…

Little-Known Facts About Transporting RVs

Here's what you need to know about being an RV transport driver -- from someone who's done it!

  • With a wide variety of RV transport opportunities, chances are good that you can find just the right position to match up with your particular needs. Qualified careful drivers are a valuable asset to any organization. Most reputable companies will gladly work with you to ensure that your needs are well taken care of.
  • When you’re transporting RVs, you can sign on to drive full time, or you might just want to earn some extra money to supplement your current income.
  • Some companies only require one trip a month to maintain good status on their driver board. How much you want to be on the road, or what level of income you require is pretty much up to you.
  • As a fulltime RVer, you might like to work between a couple of different terminals. It’s wise to work the southern dealerships in the winter when they are the busiest. Then, when the weather changes, move your portable home up north and haul rigs to northern dealerships all summer, avoiding the extreme heat of the south.

There are a few things to take into consideration before you head for the phone to sign up, though.

What’s Expected Of RV Transport Drivers

  • You must supply your own truck and all hitch components when delivering trailers.
  • Each company will have their own requirements as to what size of truck they will accept. It’s to your advantage that your rig be set up to pull any possible trailer combination — because the more types you can pull, the more loads you will get.
  • Some transport drivers even purchase a gooseneck flatbed trailer so they can haul multiple smaller travel trailers all at once. Your freight is figured on each individual rig — so by hauling 2 or 3 at a time, your profit margin will increase by leaps and bounds.
  • When delivering motorhomes, you’re responsible for finding your own way home. Most motorhome transporters have a small economy car with a tow bar that they use for the return trip. Again, you are responsible for all hook-up gear, as the motorhome will probably only have a 2-inch receiver.
  • Usually a CDL ( Commercial Drivers License ) will be required for transporting motorhomes or RV trailers. You will be running under transporter tags, and will be considered the same as over-the-road trucks when it comes to paperwork and permits.

How Much Money Do RV Transporters Make?

You can expect to make reasonable money.

By that I mean what you are paid for total freight will cover all the expenses of the trip. So, as long as your return trip home is planned economically, and you don’t go crazy at restaurants, you will usually finish the trip with a reasonable profit.

Have I ever finished a same day, out-and-back with a profit after expenses of $100? Absolutely!

Although I’ve also been on the road for 3 days, to finish up with only $50 left as profit for my efforts.

Published high figures of profit might be gross income — but after expenses that you can’t get away from, the profit is dramatically reduced. I’ve never lost money on a delivery, but without watching your expenses it’s easily possible.

So, Is Transporting RVs Worth It Or Not?

All in all, I’d say that transporting RVs is a good way to travel with someone else picking up the tab. But it isn’t a way to get rich quick, or support a family. There just isn’t enough money in it, in my opinion.

Is it a good way for a person (or couple) looking to supplement an existing income while traveling the country at someone else’s expense? Absolutely.  There’s nothing better than experiencing the open highway in a brand new motorhome — even if you don’t own it.

travel & transport companies

I’ve been involved in RVing for over 50 years — including camping, building, repairing, and even selling RVs and motorhomes. I’ve owned, used, and repaired almost every class and style of RV ever made. I do all of my own repair work. My other interests include cooking, living with an aging dog, and dealing with diabetic issues. If you can combine a grease monkey with a computer geek, throw in a touch of information nut and organization freak, combined with a little bit of storyteller… you’ve got a good idea of who I am. To date, I’ve shared my RV knowledge in over 300 articles here at The Fun Times Guide! Many of them have over 25K shares.

How much does it cost to ship a trailer on average?

The cost to transport a trailer depends on what type of trailer it is, the popularity of the route aswell as the locations.  The rate also depends on the size of the trailer.  The length, width, height and weight.  Is the trailer over 8ft 6in wide.. If so, in every state in america it will require an overwide permit.  If the trailer is over 13ft 6in high it will also require overwide permits.  Our rates per mile to transfer a trailer from one location to another varies.  In general the more miles it goes the less per mile the fee for transporting is. The easiest way to find out how much it is going to cost is to call us at 800-462-0038 to receive a trailer delivery price estimate. Or  fill out a quote by clicking here

Trailer Towing Safety Guide.

Whether your trailer is a big semi trailer or little camper trailer our safety guide will work.   Our drivers are trained to do a walk around inspection on the trailer before hooking up to it, during travel and after the delivery has been made.   We start out by looking at the overall appearence of the trailer.   1.  Look at the appearance of the trailer:  Look for the obvious: loose siding or panels, broken or missing lights, or anything out of the ordinary. 2.  Tires: Check the tire pressure of the trailer tires.  Kicking the tires is not the best way to check for proper air pressure.  Use an air gauge!  Look foor dry rot, cracks, rips or buldges on the tires.  When I tire blows it can cause damage to your trailer, slow your trip down and also pieces of your tires could hit another vehicles on the road.  When in doubt, change your tires. It will save you money in the long run. 3.  Lights: Trailers are required to have lights on all sides.  The back lights, the side marker lights and the lights at the top front of the trailer called the center lights.  Every state, city, county lights on trailers are mandatory.  Clean the the light caps, replace bulbs if needed. Check wiring.  You want all lights working. 4. Brakes: Electric Brake Trailers must have a break away switch on them. Before driver pulls away the driver should make sure the break away switch works. The driver should also make sure the trailer brakes are working properly too.  To do so the driver should place the vehicle shifter in drive and move the lever on the electric brake controller inside vehicle without stepping on brakes.  The trailer should immediately stop or slow down progress.  For air brake trailers, there is a hand valve that can be applied with the same respect.  Yet for semi trailers, driver should know how to check for brake adjustment.   For more information of the safety of moving trailers please call us at 800-462-0038. Transforming rail: More convenient and sustainable train travel in the EU

The use of Wi-Fi and roaming in train and metro stations, and in public spaces

Travelling by train in Europe is becoming more convenient and sustainable thanks to recent EU initiatives. New regulations for the trans-European transport network  (TEN-T) to improve rail connectivity and make travel greener have recently entered into force. This means better and more efficient rail services across Europe .

The EU's Action Plan to boost long-distance and cross-border passenger rail services is a key part of these efforts. It aims to double high-speed rail traffic by 2030 and triple it by 2050 . Launched in 2021, this plan focuses on removing obstacles, improving interoperability, modernising passenger rail infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of services across EU countries.

To further support cross-border travel, the European Commission has announced its support for 10 pilot projects to boost cross-border rail services . This will improve cross-border rail connections across the EU and make travel faster, easier and more affordable.

Young travellers can particularly benefit from the DiscoverEU  programme, which regularly offers free travel passes to 18-year-olds to explore Europe by train . This programme encourages cultural exchange and highlights the environmental advantages of rail travel. The next call for applications should be published in autumn 2024.

Passenger rights are also a significant focus of the EU’s transport policy. Travellers in Europe are well-protected in case something goes wrong during their trip. EU passenger rights  cover delays, cancellations, and accessibility issues.

The EU is committed to making train travel a top choice by improving regulations, creating ambitious plans, and supporting special programmes. These efforts aim to make rail travel more sustainable, efficient, and well-connected across Europe.

Faye

Why We Picked Faye Travel Insurance

As a platform that prioritizes a digital, entirely online experience, Faye is worth considering if you’re shopping for last-minute coverage, according to our research. You can s imply answer a few questions about your upcoming trip, adjust your coverage limit and buy a comprehensive travel insurance plan in just a few minutes. In addition, Faye can send reimbursement directly to your phone’s digital wallet if you file a claim and it’s approved, which means you won’t need to wait for reimbursement by a check in the mail. While Faye offers only one plan choice, its general coverage inclusions may fit vacationers seeking quick coverage and a digital experience.

Pros and Cons

Our ratings, coverage overview.

Faye offers one plan with several optional add-on options.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Cancel for any reason (CFAR)
  • Rental car damage or theft
  • Adventure and extreme sports protection
  • Vacation rental damage protection

*Coverage limits and availability may vary by state of residence.

We obtained premium costs for seven trips as outlined in our review methodology, and Faye’s average trip cost is $297.87.

Travelex

Why We Picked Travelex

Travelex is our top choice for travelers taking budget vacations and trying to prioritize policy price over other factors, according to our research. Travelex’s plans can be low-cost for some — depending on your vacation’s value, you could qualify for flat-rate coverage of $60 per traveler, which is less than half of the average cost of travel insurance. It also offers a flat-rate Travel America plan for domestic trips. While Travelex’s Travel Basic plan provides affordable international coverage, note that optional adventure sports, additional medical protection and CFAR insurance are not available with this plan.

Travelex’s base plan, the Travel Basic coverage, includes 100% protection for both trip cancellation and interruption. It also includes $15,000 worth of emergency medical coverage, $100,000 in emergency evacuation coverage and $500 for lost baggage. Travelex’s Travel Select plan extends additional coverage, such as sporting equipment delay benefits of $200 and you can include kids with your policy.

Travelex offers the following add-ons for the Travel Select policy:

  • CFAR coverage (50% reimbursement)
  • Medical expense extension (extends coverage to $50,000)
  • Adventure sports waiver for medical expenses coverage
  • Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) extension (extends coverage to $25,000)

*Higher medical and evacuation coverage limits are available on other policies. Contact the company to learn more.

We obtained premium costs for seven trips as outlined in our review methodology, and Travelex’s average trip cost is $242.

Nationwide Travel Insurance

Nationwide Travel Insurance

Why We Picked Nationwide

Our choice for the maximum coverage reimbursed was Nationwide travel insurance. Depending on your plan choice, it provides 100% trip cancellation coverage and up to 200% trip interruption protection. If you plan to go on a cruise in Europe, unlike most other providers, Nationwide offers two levels of coverage specifically tailored to cruises. The majority of travel insurance companies often do not cover mechanical failures and terrorism in the cities of destination, but these cruise policies do.

Tin Leg

Why We Picked Tin Leg

Tin Leg is a travel insurance provider that offers eight individual policy options. With a different level of coverage included in each plan, Tin Leg can make it easy to choose a policy that only includes the protections most important to you. You can tailor your policy to your needs even further with up to 10 add-on options, securing Tin Leg’s spot on our list as the travel insurance provider with the best customization options.

With eight travel insurance policies, Tin Leg’s medical insurance benefits range from $20,000 to $500,000, and its trip interruption coverage ranges from 100% to 150%. Most policies also include unique extra coverages not found with some other providers — like sports equipment loss and missed connections. The table below summarizes the key coverage included with three of Tin Leg’s most popular plans.

You can also upgrade your plan with the following add-on options — though available choices will vary depending on your base policy selection.

  • CFAR coverage
  • Financial defaults
  • Cancel for work reasons
  • Terrorism disruption
  • Employment layoff
  • Missed connections
  • Sports and activities coverage
  • Identity theft
  • Rental car damage

*Higher evacuation coverage limits are available on other policies. Contact the company to learn more.

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection

Why We Picked Berkshire Hathaway

If you’re planning a luxury vacation, you may have trouble finding an insurance provider to insure your trip’s total value. Berkshire Hathaway’s LuxuryCare travel insurance plans cover 100% of your trip costs up to $100,000, which is why we’ve named the provider our pick for luxury travelers. We like that it provides high coverage limits for lost luggage — a perk if you’re traveling with high-end items that would result in expensive replacement costs if lost or stolen. It also offers a series of specialized standard travel plans, including an AdrenalineCare policy specifically for sports travelers and WaveCare for cruises.

Berkshire Hathaway offers three general plans and more specialized coverage options. You’ll find a series of nine total plan options in most parts of the country, but we recommend the all-inclusive LuxuryCare and ExactCare Extra plans for high-value vacations.

The table below summarizes the inclusions found on some of Berkshire Hathaway’s most popular travel insurance plans.

Berkshire Hathaway allows you to add the following add-on options to your plan:

  • CFAR upgrade (up to 50% trip reimbursement)
  • Rental car collision damage
  • Pre-existing conditions waiver

Seven Corners Travel Insurance

Seven Corners Travel Insurance

Why We Picked Seven Corners

For Seven Corners, buying an annual plan rather than several single-trip plans might be more cost-effective if you go to Europe frequently or are abroad on a student visa. Instead of purchasing new insurance every time, you can pay a single fee to cover several travels in a year. An annual plan comes with up to $500,000 in emergency medical coverage, $250,000 in travel medical coverage, and other benefits. All plans come with 24/7 travel help that is available worldwide. We think this plan is cost-effective for frequent travelers even though it lacks quality delay insurance.

AIG Travel Guard

AIG Travel Guard

Why We Picked AIG

When shopping for travel insurance as a group or family, high combined premiums might deter some customers from purchasing coverage. We chose AIG Travel Guard as the best travel insurance provider for families because select plans — like the Deluxe policy — include one child under the age of 17 with the purchase of adult coverage. AIG also offers generous discounts on group travel coverage, which you can purchase with just a few clicks online. This can make AIG a solid choice for anyone looking for last-minute trip cancellation insurance, especially if you’re traveling with multiple people and prefer the ease of purchasing one policy instead of several.

AIG’s primary travel insurance product is its international travel plans, which provide 100% trip cancellation insurance, up to $1,000 in trip delay coverage, up to $1 million in medical evacuation coverage and other benefits commonly found with competitors. It also offers two unique policy options: the quick approval Pack-N-Go plan and an annual plan for frequent flyers.

AIG offers three travel insurance plans, all of which include family coverage:

It also offers the following add-ons:

  • CFAR coverage (up to 50% reimbursement)
  • Vendor financial default coverage
  • Missed connection benefit ($150)

*Higher medical and evacuation coverage limits are available on other policies. Contact the company to learn more.

Trawick International

Trawick International

Why We Picked Trawick International

Trawick is our pick for student travel insurance. While it offers more than 20 individual travel insurance policies with standard inclusions, Trawick is most notable for its unique options for students studying abroad, which can make the process of obtaining required insurance easier. The International Student and Scholar Medical Evacuation plan is an affordable option that meets the requirements of multiple international visas stipulating evacuation insurance. It also offers annual trip cancellation plans and coverage formatted for other types of international visa requirements. However, this plan only provides medical evacuation coverage and not general emergency medical protection, making it less than ideal for travelers concerned with comprehensive medical coverage.

With more than 20 individual plan options, Trawick offers a range of coverage selections. We suggest reviewing each plan option to verify it has the coverage you need, especially if you are traveling on a visa. Compare a few of the company’s most popular policies using the table below.

Add-On Options

Coverage add-ons are not available on Collegiate Care plans.

Generali Global Assistance

Generali Global Assistance

Why We Picked Generali Global Assistance

We chose Generali Global Assistance as our pick for emergency assistance coverage because it offers 24/7, concierge-level service to help travelers in various situations. Generali’s travel professionals are multilingual, which can benefit you if you travel to an area where you cannot speak the primary language. In addition, Generali’s higher coverage tiers include protections such as rental car and sports equipment coverage, which other providers usually offer as add-ons.

Generali offers three plan tiers: Standard, Preferred and Premium. The Standard Plan includes a variety of benefits, including 125% trip interruption coverage, $150 per day toward delay-related expenses, $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage, $50,000 worth of medical coverage and more. Preferred and Premium plans extend benefits included with the Standard Plan and add some extras — like sports equipment coverage and rental car collision insurance.

Generali offers the following add-on options:

  • CFAR coverage (up to 60% reimbursement)

Travel Insured International

Travel Insured International

Why We Picked Travel Insured International

We named Travel Insured International as our pick for well-rounded coverage. It offers coverage with various optional add-ons such as event ticket registration fee protection, interruption for any reason (IFAR) and CFAR coverage. The provider even offers optional pet kennel coverage, which could offer peace of mind travelers with furry friends at home. It also provides 24/7 emergency assistance services and extra perks such as concierge services, medical and legal aid and passport replacement help.

How To Choose the Best Travel Insurance

Knowing what to look for when comparing travel insurance providers can help you pick the best plan for your needs. We encourage you to compare brand pricing and policies between multiple providers to help narrow down your available coverage options.

Compare The Best Travel Insurance For International Trips

Comparing the costs of coverage offered by different providers can help you find the most affordable option for your travel insurance needs. See the table below for a direct cost comparison between the companies we’ve chosen as our top picks, as well as Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings and notable coverage limits.

Asking yourself a few key questions can help further simplify your search for travel insurance. Considering the total cost of your trip, your destination, method of travel and any health concerns can help you better understand the type of policy that suits your needs best.

Was This an Important or Pricey Trip?

The value and price of your trip play a major role in travel insurance pricing. If you’re insuring a higher-value vacation, you may want to look for policies with higher overall coverage limits and travel interruption reimbursements. If you’re taking a budget vacation, you might see more value in an insurer that specializes in low-cost, affordable policies.

Where Are You Headed?

It is also good practice to consider the available amenities and your trip itinerary when shopping for coverage. For example, if you’re traveling to a remote area with a less robust medical system than a city with many options, there could be a higher chance of needing emergency medical evacuation if you end up seriously injured. In this case, we recommend a policy with higher coverage limits on medical evacuation services.

“I recommend that every traveler gets a strong medical evacuation policy. When the worst-case scenario happens, you can get to a hospital of your choice at home. I really push this coverage for folks traveling in Mexico because it’s a short trip to a home hospital.”

Zach Lazzari headshot image

How Are You Getting to Your Destination?

If you’re taking a cruise, consider getting a quote from a travel insurance provider that offers cruise-specific coverage, such as Nationwide. While most travel insurance providers design policies to cover the basic risks associated with flying — such as lost luggage, missed connections, etc. — it is worth comparing options that include coverage specific to your trip. For example, those traveling for work may prefer Allianz Global for its business-centered plans.

Do You Have Any Health Concerns?

When thinking about your travel plans, consider if you could need medical services based on your health history and travel itinerary. If you’re older, have a pre-existing health condition , or plan to participate in physical activities or sports, consider a plan with higher medical expense limits. In addition, companies often include COVID-19 treatment under a policy’s standard emergency medical coverage, but it is best to read through coverage terms and conditions to confirm.

Angela Borden, a product marketing specialist at Seven Corners , offered the following advice for travelers:

“Contact your insurance provider to be sure you fully understand the pre-existing conditions coverage for the plan you choose,” she said. “Being prepared and having the information before you need it in an emergency makes a huge difference.”

Is Travel Insurance Required?

In most cases, travel insurance is not required. However, some countries require visitors to have travel insurance due to visa requirements or diplomatic unrest. These countries typically only require proof that your policy covers emergency medical expenses. You can extend your coverage to also protect you against baggage loss, trip delays and cancellations.

Even if your destination does not mandate travel insurance, the U.S. Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens traveling overseas purchase a policy that covers unexpected medical bills while abroad.

When To Skip Travel Insurance

Travel insurance may only be worth it in some scenarios. For instance, if you booked your trip using a credit card that also offers travel insurance protection, you may not need coverage through an additional provider. We encourage you to check the details of your credit card coverage, if applicable, to ensure it aligns with your needs. If so, you can likely skip buying a separate travel insurance policy.

In addition, if you’ve booked your trip with flexible airline tickets or with a hotel that offers a flexible change or cancellation policy, you may not need a travel insurance policy. Also, travelers booking excursions or activities with refundable policies will likely not benefit from a travel insurance plan.

Finally, note that if you’re a U.S. citizen traveling within the country and have insurance through a domestic provider, you likely will need travel insurance with medical coverage. However, your coverage may not extend abroad, notably if you have a government-issued plan. But if you have private insurance that covers emergency medical expenses abroad, you may not need to purchase a travel insurance plan.

Generally, we encourage you to consider your trip, the overall cost and the flexibility surrounding your reservations when deciding whether or not to skip purchasing a travel insurance policy.

What Does Travel Insurance Cover?

The specifics of what is covered under your travel insurance policy will vary depending on the provider you select. The following are some of the most common types of coverage you are likely to find as you get quotes from the best travel insurance providers.

Trip Cancellation Protection

Trip cancellation coverage compensates you for nonrefundable expenses, such as your flight and lodging, if your trip gets canceled due to certain unforeseen circumstances. This could include unexpected weather events, a death in the family or the diagnosis of a major illness. You can check your travel insurance policy for specific coverages and exclusions. Most travel insurance companies provide 100% cancellation coverage for nonrefundable expenses when offering this type of protection.

Trip Interruption Protection

Baggage delay or loss coverage is another component of travel insurance that offers financial protection if your checked luggage is delayed or lost during your trip. If an airline temporarily misplaces your belongings, this coverage can help ease the inconvenience by reimbursing you for essential items, such as toiletries and lost clothing. The average amount a travel insurance provider offers will vary, and some companies have a timeline for how long you must wait after a delay before you can claim this coverage.

Emergency Medical Expenses and Evacuation

Medical expense coverage is a component of travel insurance that helps you cover medical bills you incur if you get hurt or sick on a trip. Depending on the health insurance you have in the U.S., your coverage may not extend to hospital bills to treat injuries and illnesses sustained outside of the country, making this type of coverage potentially valuable in the event of a medical emergency.

Emergency medical coverage does not usually include transportation or evacuation due to an illness or injury, but concerned travelers can purchase medical evacuation insurance as an add-on. For this reason, medical evacuation protection will typically have a separate coverage limit. We recommend considering higher evacuation coverage limits if traveling to a remote area without immediate hospital access.

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Coverage

Cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage entitles you to partial or full reimbursement of nonrefundable trip expenses if you cancel your trip for reasons not listed in your policy.

“CFAR gives you greater flexibility to alter your plans and still get some money back on your trip expenses, regardless of why you decided to cancel your trip,” said Borden. “[It] was especially popular immediately after COVID-19 because it allowed people to cancel even if they simply changed their minds about traveling.”

She goes on to note that while travelers are generally less concerned about COVID-19’s impact on travel, CFAR coverage is still a valuable benefit.

“You never know what could happen at home or at your destination that would cause you to rethink your travel plans,” she added.

Collision Coverage

If you’re renting a vehicle on vacation, you may choose to add collision coverage. Similar to the collision coverage found on your domestic auto insurance policy, it compensates you for damage to a rental vehicle if you’re involved in an accident. This coverage is usually not legally required to drive in another country. Still, it may help cover repairs passed onto you by the rental car company if you’re involved in an accident.

Rental Car Coverage

Rental car agencies usually offer optional insurance coverage when you rent a vehicle. However, you could choose to opt for rental car coverage through a travel insurance plan instead. Typically offered as an add-on, it can reimburse you if a collision, theft, vandalism, natural disaster or other events damage your rental car. In some cases, you may also find it cheaper than what a rental car agency offers for protection.

What Is Not Covered by Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance will not cover everything associated with your trip. Exclusions vary from provider to provider, but companies typically omit common events and circumstances from coverage. Some examples of common exclusions include medical tourism, named hurricanes and tropical storms, and voluntary cancellation without CFAR coverage. Other standard exclusions include fear of flying, injuries resulting from participation in extreme sports and travel to particularly high-risk destinations.

Some travel insurance companies offer add-on protection plans that cover some typically excluded events. For example, CFAR coverage can partially cover cancellations not covered by your standard travel insurance policy. Extreme sports coverages or waivers can offer financial protection in the event of an injury from participation in excluded sports or activities. Regardless, we suggest thoroughly reading the fine print in your contract and asking your provider questions about any exclusions you’re unsure of.

How Much Does Travel Insurance Cost?

In our comprehensive review of the travel insurance market, our team found the average cost of travel insurance was about 3% to 5% of a trip’s total value. Based on the quotes our team gathered from providers, the average cost across seven different traveler profiles came out to $221 , with the average traveler paying between $70 and $300 for most trips.

To further understand the average travel insurance cost in relation to total trip value, we gathered multiple quotes from various providers for a 30-year-old traveler taking a week-long trip to France. See the table below for the average travel insurance cost based on the total cost of trips ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Remember that your travel insurance costs will vary based on various factors. We encourage you to get a quote from at least three travel insurance providers before purchasing coverage to ensure you get the best price for your coverage needs.

How We Found Our Cost Data

We calculated the average costs for each provider in our review using seven unique traveler profiles to gain an understanding of costs for different people and scenarios, which we break down in our travel insurance methodology .

After using each profile to gather quotes for different plans, we calculated the average cost of each provider and individual policy. Our top recommended plans in the table above may cost you more or less than our averages listed depending on factors unique to your travel needs. The best way to know how much a travel insurance policy will cost is to request quotes from multiple providers for your trip.

What Impacts the Cost of Trip Insurance?

Several factors can determine how much your travel insurance will cost — and while cost matters when it comes to a travel insurance policy, the cheapest option is not always the best. If you’ve booked an expensive trip and prefer a budget travel insurance plan, it might be good to ensure the coverage is enough to protect your investment.

As you shop, keep in mind that the following factors can affect how much you pay for a travel insurance policy:

  • Your age: Some travel insurance companies increase costs with traveler’s age. Based on our research, prices are the same for travelers up to age 50 and then increase from there.
  • Trip cost: The more expensive the trip, the more it will cost the travel insurance company to reimburse you, according to our research. As such, your travel insurance premium will likely be higher for more expensive trips.
  • Plan type: There are many different types of travel insurance policies. The more protection you have, the more expensive your travel insurance rate.
  • Add-on coverages: Most plans will allow you to add certain features without upgrading your entire plan. However, add-ons will increase your overall cost. For example, you might buy basic flight insurance for $30 and add CFAR coverage for an additional $30.
  • Number of travelers: While you can buy a single policy for multiple travelers, each traveler will have their own premium, increasing the total cost. However, many travel insurance companies offer group discounts.
  • Destination: Your travel insurance provider will take the risk factor of your trip destination into consideration when determining the cost of insurance.
  • Trip length: The longer your trip is, the more you’ll likely pay a higher premium for a travel insurance policy. Not only are longer trips more expensive, but the duration increases the chances of something going wrong and causing you to file a claim.

How To Buy Travel Insurance

The travel insurance providers on our list offer online quote systems that allow you to view pricing and policy options after entering some information about yourself and your trip. Alternatively, you can typically purchase coverage over the phone by getting in touch with a representative using the company’s customer service line.

As you prepare to purchase travel insurance, you want to keep a few details about your vacation handy, including:

  • The ages and names of everyone in your party
  • Your travel destination(s)
  • The dates you are traveling
  • Your total trip value, including flights, accommodations, baggage and other items you need to cover
  • The date of your initial trip payment

Each of these factors will play a role in the price you will pay for travel insurance coverage.

Who Needs Travel Insurance?

While most people can benefit from some level of travel insurance coverage, consider a policy if you are planning any of the following:

International trips: Traveling internationally can expose you to unfamiliar healthcare systems, unpredictable events, and potential trip interruptions. Travel insurance offers financial protection for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and unexpected expenses that may arise in foreign destinations.

Regular vacations: If you frequently travel for business or leisure, an annual travel insurance policy can be a cost-effective solution. This policy provides continuous coverage for multiple trips, saving you time purchasing separate policies.

Senior travelers: If you are a senior traveler with Medicare, your health insurance excludes most medical care outside of the country. Travel insurance with medical expenses and evacuation coverage can financially protect you if you need care while away from home.

Adventure sports: Adventure enthusiasts planning to engage in activities like hiking, skiing or scuba diving may find travel insurance with adventure sports coverage beneficial. These policies can cover potential injuries and equipment losses, which you may be more likely to run into due to your itinerary. However, not all standard travel medical insurance covers injuries related to adventure sports.

If you are considering travel insurance, we suggest getting a few sample quotes to compare coverage. Getting a quote is free, takes only a few minutes and can provide more personalized insights into the cost of your upcoming travel plan.

As the world continues to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospitality industry is slowly seeing a return to pre-pandemic levels. According to research from the U.S. Travel Association , domestic leisure travel is expected to fully return to pre-pandemic levels throughout 2024. Some of the factors contributing to travelers’ return to airports across the globe include:

  • Easing international visa and travel restrictions
  • Vaccine distribution and effectiveness
  • Increased demand for travel following COVID-19 lockdowns

As the demand for travel increases, so has the sale of travel insurance. The travel insurance market size is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5% between 2022 and 2028 . Highly publicized stories of flight delays and cancellations occurring across the country are also contributing to public demand for travel insurance.

Top Travel Destinations of 2024

To learn more about the top travel destinations of 2024 and the average price travelers paid for coverage, our team conducted a Pollfish survey in February 2024 consisting of 1,000 U.S.-based respondents.

Of those respondents, 46% said the last time they purchased travel insurance was for a domestic trip within the U.S. The remainder of our survey participants purchased a travel policy for an international vacation, with the following countries ranking among the most popular destinations:

Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

While travel insurance is not required to enter countries in most parts of the world, it can be worth the cost to purchase some level of coverage. In our review, we found the average cost of travel insurance is less than 7% of what you can expect to pay for your vacation — but may provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in reimbursements if you experience an unexpected cancellation or delay. The medical expense coverage included with travel insurance is also an invaluable protection, as many health insurance policies exclude care provided outside of the U.S.

Survey Majority Say Travel Insurance Is Worth It

Over half of our survey respondents paid between $50 to $200 for their most recent travel insurance policy, with $200 to $300 being the second most commonly selected price range. In addition, 40% of respondents said they purchased travel insurance mainly to protect the cost of their trip. Trip cancellation coverage and medical were the next most popular reasons for buying a policy.

If you plan to travel in 2024, our team recommends purchasing a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Over 60% of survey participants agree with our sentiments, endorsing a policy that includes coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, baggage and more.

“Like any insurance policy, it's a lost cost until you really need it. Travel insurance offers narrow or broad range coverages that can really help when things don't go as planned. From Medical Evacuations to trip cancellation, it's worth investing in a policy ," said Lazzari.

ASK THE EXPERTS

What is most important to consider when evaluating travel insurance options?

"It's essential the plans are well-defined including specific activities and regions a traveler will visit. For instance, a vacation spent relaxing at a nearby resort requires different insurance coverage compared to a trip involving various activities across multiple countries. Insurance premiums are inherently linked to the level of risk involved, so it's wise for budget travelers to tailor their insurance based on their detailed travel plans. Moreover, the inherent risks of the destination must be considered. Higher-risk areas naturally have a greater likelihood of issues arising, and appropriate insurance should be in place to manage these risks. When assessing the risk factors of a destination, it's crucial to go beyond common knowledge and actively seek out information to accurately gauge the safety level of the destination."

wookjae heo headshot

"It’s important to understand what is not covered by a travel insurance policy. Most policies will not cover man-made disasters if your trip is canceled or interrupted. Other exclusions may include acts of war, participating in dangerous activities such as extreme sports, self-harm and foreseeable events. Read the policy carefully. One alternative to standard travel insurance is cancel-for-any-reason coverage.  However, the cancellation typically must occur within a preset number of days before the trip is to begin and is more expensive."

Frequently Asked Questions About Travel Insurance

Does travel insurance get more expensive closer to the trip.

Unlike most other types of insurance, you won’t be penalized for buying your travel insurance closer to the dates you might use it. However, many travel insurance companies require that you purchase coverage within a limited time after booking your trip. Luckily, travel insurance prices do not increase as you get closer to your departure date. That being said, some options (like CFAR coverage) may only be available for a limited time before you travel.

When does travel insurance expire?

Your travel insurance policy will expire on the date you indicate when you purchase the plan. For most travelers, this will be the final day of your vacation. Frequent travelers might also have the option to buy annual travel insurance that protects them for a year.

What does international travel insurance cover?

International travel insurance provides you with a reimbursement for nonrefundable travel expenses if you’re forced to cancel your trip or leave your destination early. In addition, it may reimburse you for travel expenses like airfare and hotel costs if you cannot claim a refund from your vendors directly.

Does insurance still cover trips if you cancel right before your departure date?

That depends. Most travel insurance companies require canceling anywhere from 24 hours to a week or more before departure in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

Travel insurance premiums often increase as your departure date approaches, since the likelihood of last-minute interruptions or cancellations increases closer to your flight. It’s generally advisable to purchase travel insurance in advance to get access to the most favorable rates.

What is the most common type of travel insurance?

The most common type of travel insurance is trip cancellation and interruption coverage, which reimburses you if you’re forced to cancel your trip or go home early. These coverages are included on almost every travel insurance policy, except medical-only plans.

  • Plan availability (10%): We look for insurers with a variety of travel insurance plans and the ability to customize a policy with coverage upgrades.
  • Coverage details (29%): We review the baseline coverage each company offers in its cheapest comprehensive plan. A provider with robust coverage earns full points, including baggage delay and loss, COVID-19 coverage, emergency evacuation and medical coverage, trip delay and cancellation coverage, and more. Companies also receive points for offering a variety of policy add-ons like accidental death and dismemberment, extreme sports, valuable items, cancel for any reason coverage and more.
  • Coverage times and amounts (34%): We compare each company’s waiting periods and maximum reimbursement amounts for baggage, travel and weather delays. Companies that offer customers reimbursement after fewer than 12 hours of delays earn full points in this category. We also reward travel insurance providers that cover more than 100% of trip costs in the event of cancellations or interruptions.
  • Company service and reviews (17%): We look for indicators that a company is well-prepared to respond to customer needs. Companies with an established global resource network, 24/7 emergency hotline, mobile app, multiple ways to file a claim and concierge services score higher in this category. We assess reputation by evaluating consumer reviews, third-party financial strength and customer experience ratings, specifically from AM Best and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Slash travel costs, reclaim over 1,000 work hours: How automating expenses transforms business efficiency

With transport expense management platform GoCorp, companies can eliminate the hassle of filing claims and give employees back their valuable time

ALZYS GLOBAL built its commodity trading business on its ability to maximise the value of every asset from silk to steel. But as Evelyn Huang stared at the pile of documents on her desk, she realised they were squandering their most valuable resource: time.

Business was booming, and so were the transport expense claims by sales and finance teams. They travelled frequently locally to meet clients and banking partners. Each month ended with a dreaded ritual of cobbling all their transport receipts.

“Employees paid first and submitted claims later, including a physical form and receipts,” says Huang, deputy general manager of corporate finance. “The finance team then verified each claim before reimbursing employees.”

This process left employees frustrated about paying for business expenses and spending around two hours a month on claims.

“Our finance team only had two people. They would spend nearly an entire day each month processing claims from over 50 employees,” Huang adds.

She estimates the company spent over 1,300 hours a year filing and processing expense claims – equivalent to eight months of productivity lost for a single employee.

Alzys Global is not alone in its struggle with managing transport expenses effectively. One in five companies has said that their expense reports contain errors or need clarification , according to a 2022 Global Business Travel Association study. Other challenges include a lack of visibility into transport expenses, and enforcing company guidelines and policies.

Streamlining business travel

What if there was a way to reclaim time and resources through automation?

That was the promise when Huang discovered GoCorp, a transport expense management platform by Gojek. It aims to simplify and streamline how companies manage business transport expenses.

travel & transport companies

With GoCorp, finance managers can instantly view all employee transport spending in one dashboard, making it easy to enforce company policy and process reimbursements.

When Alzys Global signed up for GoCorp, its employees could book rides on Gojek with priority allocation. Rides were charged to the company’s account, eliminating the need for manual claims or scanning taxi receipts. Gojek estimates employees spend up to 50 per cent less time on business expenditure paperwork.

Finance managers could charge all employee expenses to their corporate card with perpetual zero service fees. It also gave them real-time visibility into transport expenses. With GoCorp, Alzys Global could set customisable limits and settings to control expenses, ensuring that employees adhere to company policies.

“GoCorp consolidates our business transportation expenses. It made our overall process much more efficient,” says Huang. “Employees are happier without the need to file for manual claims anymore and greatly reduced the workload for our finance team.”

The platform also allowed Alzys Global to monitor usage based on travel reasons, providing insights into spending patterns. Onboarding new employees onto GoCorp is fast with a simple registration.

Companies using GoCorp have seen significant improvements in transport expense management. Gojek reports that nine in 10 clients experience more efficient processes and an 87 per cent increase in visibility of business expenditures.

After switching to GoCorp, Alzys Global cut transport and entertainment expenses by 20 per cent with better visibility and competitive prices on Gojek rides.

Business solutions done right

With over 3,000 businesses across Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam on the platform, GoCorp serves myriad customers for their transportation needs, from enterprise sales teams meeting clients to healthcare workers going home after their night shift.

Companies that prefer credit term billing enjoy a first-year fee waiver and no minimum spend, allowing them to improve their cash flow at zero cost.

GoCorp’s concierge feature allows companies to book rides for guests or important personnel without needing the Gojek app. This is useful for hosting events or welcoming overseas visitors. By streamlining the process, GoCorp ensures that guests have a seamless experience without having to navigate unfamiliar transportation systems.

GoCorp users can also generate Gojek voucher codes for any denomination, occasion, date or time. These vouchers have various uses, from employee benefits to marketing giveaways or office events. By setting parameters like values and validity periods, companies can create delightful user experiences while managing transport expenses.

Huang values GoCorp’s excellent client servicing, where each customer is assigned a dedicated account manager. Even with automation, she appreciates the human touch and personalised support.

“Our account manager is always quick to respond and resolve any issues we face,” she says. “It’s really nice to have a single point of contact to directly reach out to if we need any help.”

Travel Tips: A Guide for Kidney Patients

For many patients who are on dialysis or have had a kidney transplant, the ability to travel is important to their self-esteem and lifestyle. Working patients may need to attend business meetings or conferences. Older patients may have dreamed of traveling during their retirement. A family event such as a wedding, graduation or family reunion may require travel away from home. At times, emergencies such as illness or a death in the family may require travel.

Is it possible for kidney patients to travel?

Yes, most patients who receive dialysis or have had a kidney transplant can travel safely and continue their treatment while away from home. Of course, you should always consult your doctor before planning to travel. Most doctors encourage travel if the patient's health is stable. Traveling can give a big boost to a patient's morale and sense of well-being.

How should hemodialysis patients begin to plan a trip?

Many dialysis centers have a staff member who is experienced in arranging dialysis treatments away from home (transient dialysis). Some centers will assist patients in making their own arrangements. Ask your social worker or primary nurse if there is such a person at your center.

It is important to start planning at least six to eight weeks in advance. More time should be allowed for popular vacation spots or travel during holidays. Be flexible about the dates for your trip as space in dialysis units may be limited. If you would prefer to have your treatments on specific days and at specific times, let the center know in advance. The unit may not always be able to honor your request, however, because space is limited.

You or your patient travel coordinator may need to contact more than one center in order to find a center that can provide dialysis for you. Check with the center as soon as you arrive to confirm your appointment. You may also want to visit the center and meet the staff so you will feel more comfortable. Before doing this, however, make an appointment with the social worker or nurse manager of the dialysis center you plan to visit.

How will I find a center to dialyze at?

If you plan to visit friends or family out of town, they may be able to give you the name and address of the dialysis center nearest them. Resource publications are available at your center listing dialysis centers around the world that are willing to accept transient dialysis patients. Your social worker or the patient travel coordinator at your center will be able to assist you.

What if I need to travel in an emergency?

Many dialysis centers make every effort to accommodate patients in the event of an emergency such as illness or death of a family member. Dialysis records can be faxed ahead, or you can hand carry them with you.

What information will my transient dialysis center need to safely provide dialysis for me?

Most dialysis centers require the following information in order to assess your health and plan for your treatments with them:

  • the dates you need dialysis treatment
  • your name, address, etc.
  • medical history and recent physical exam reports
  • recent lab results
  • recent chest x-ray
  • your dialysis prescription and 3 to 5 recent treatment records
  • dialysis access type
  • special needs or dialysis requirements
  • information about your general health
  • insurance information
  • where you will be staying in the area
  • a list of the medications you take during treatment and at home.

This information will be sent to your destination center for review. It is important for the doctor and transient center to know as much about you as possible in order to care for your needs while visiting their center. In addition to mailing your records to the center, you should hand carry a copy with you.

How can I be sure about the quality of care I will be getting away from my regular center?

You may want to ask the following questions when making your arrangements for hemodialysis during your trip:

  • Does the center reuse dialyzers?
  • Does the center reuse bloodlines?
  • What is the average treatment length of dialysis at the center?
  • Can they provide the treatment time your doctor has prescribed?
  • What are the hours and days of operation? Traveling patients often are placed on an evening shift, which could end as early as 7:30 p.m. or as late as 2:00 a.m.
  • What types of dialyzers are used?
  • Can you use the same type of dialyzer you use at your home center?
  • What types of dialysis machine does the center have (conventional, high flux capability)?
  • Does the center routinely provide lidocaine?
  • Are patients permitted to eat or drink while on dialysis?
  • Is an ice machine available for patients?
  • Is public transportation available to get to the center?
  • How many patients are assigned to each nurse or patient care technician?
  • Can you get all the medications you get at your home center during dialysis?

What if I get sick while I am visiting another center?

Don't overdo it! Be realistic when planning activities. Allow enough time to enjoy sightseeing outings and activities without becoming overtired. Also, be sure to watch your diet and fluid intake. Before you begin your trip, you will most likely have a doctor assigned to you by your transient dialysis center. Find out how to contact the doctor when you first arrive. If you do become ill, call the dialysis center or doctor as instructed.

It is possible that a transient patient may require hospitalization. If this should happen to you, your transient doctor is prepared for this possibility and will care for you during your hospital stay. He or she will probably talk to your regular doctor to coordinate your care. You may feel more comfortable to know if this coordination has taken place. Being hospitalized while away from home can be a stressful experience for any patient, and it certainly can change your travel plans. Preparing ahead for this possibility can help make the experience less stressful. The following suggestions may be helpful:

  • Make sure your family knows your travel plans.
  • Make sure you have important phone numbers with such names as your regular doctor, dialysis center, etc. Have a copy of your medical records with you while traveling.
  • Make sure anyone who is traveling with you knows where you keep your records and what your medical needs are.
  • Make sure to bring enough of the medications you need to take to last for the entire trip, with enough extra to deal with possible emergencies such as lost luggage or a spill. Also carry written prescriptions just in case.

Is home hemodialysis possible on a trip?

Yes, although most home hemodialysis patients make arrangements for in-center treatments while traveling. Patients who wish to continue doing their own treatment while traveling should check with their dialysis care team about whether they can do home dialysis away from home. Some patients travel with their machines, supplies and portable water treatment equipment. An example would be people who have dialyzed in campsites equipped with hook-ups for electricity.

Even if you do your own treatment, it is important to know where the closest dialysis center is where you could go for assistance. Let the center know when you will be in the area, and ask if they would be willing to provide medical assistance if needed. Carry complete medical information with you. Remember that most dialysis and equipment companies have toll-free numbers for assistance 24 hours a day. Carry these numbers with you.

What should peritoneal dialysis patients know about traveling?

Traveling is often easier for peritoneal dialysis patients because they are not dependent on the availability of a dialysis unit. Peritoneal dialysis patients still need to plan ahead and arrange for back-up medical care for their trips, as do hemodialysis patients. Typically, this would mean contacting a dialysis center in the area where you will be and asking if they would be available should a problem arise. The center may request a copy of your medical records in advance. In any case, you should always carry a copy of your records with you as well.

CAPD patients should carry enough supplies for the length of the trip, plus some extra supplies in case of problems. It may also be possible to arrange for delivery of supplies to your destination for longer stays. Make sure these supplies have arrived before you leave on your trip. CAPD patients also need to plan for adequate clean space where they may do their exchanges while traveling.

APD patients who plan to travel for one week or longer can arrange for supplies to be delivered to their destination. Smaller cycler machines are now available, which are easy to carry on airplanes and to use in hotel rooms, campers, etc.

Is it possible to travel if you are active on a transplant waiting list?

Yes. Simply inform your transplant coordinator about your travel plans. The coordinator will help you decide whether to be "on hold" during the trip or whether you would be able to return within a reasonable amount of time if a kidney became available. Arrange to be contacted in the event a kidney becomes available.

What should diabetic patients know about traveling?

Since the unexpected may happen during a trip and meals may be delayed, you should carry glucose tablets and appropriate snacks, such as low-potassium juice boxes or hard candy, to treat low blood sugar. It's a good idea to travel with a "brown-bag" lunch or a packaged nutritional supplement in case of delays. Managing your diabetes can be made simpler by having insulin, syringes and blood glucose monitoring supplies handy.

Will my insurance cover treatment during travel?

If Medicare is your primary insurance coverage, Medicare will pay for 80 percent of your treatment costs within the U.S. and its territories. You will be responsible for the remaining 20 percent not covered by Medicare. If you have secondary insurance, it may cover this 20 percent. However, you may have to pay this 20 percent "up front" and bill your insurance later. Check with the transient center about their policy on this. Most state Medicaid programs will not pay for treatment outside of your home state.

If you have commercial insurance as your primary insurance, you may need to request a letter from your insurance company stating they will pay for your treatment at the transient dialysis center. Some commercial insurance will pay for dialysis outside of the U.S. Transient dialysis centers will often call and verify this coverage themselves. Be sure to allow enough planning time to make these arrangements.

A doctor's fee may also be charged by the transient dialysis center. Be sure to ask what portion of this charge will be your responsibility.

Further information

Where can I get more information?

Following is a list of other resources you may find helpful:

  • Easy Access to National Parks, by Sierra Club Books, available at bookstores or order from the Sierra Club at 1-800-935-1056.
  • Management of Diabetes During Intercontinental Travel, available free from The Diabetic Traveler, P.O.. Box 8223 RW, Stamford, CT 06905; (203) 327-5832.
  • "The List," a comprehensive list of international dialysis centers accepting transient patients. Available from Dialysis & Transplantation, 7628 Densmore Ave., Van Nuys, CA 91406-2088. (Most dialysis centers have a copy.)
  • Also available are companies that specialize in vacation and travel planning for dialysis patients, such as cruises, foreign travel, and wilderness travel. Camps are available for dialysis and transplant patients (both adults and children). Contact your local National Kidney Foundation office for more information and a directory of camps. Your health care team can also give you more information about these options.

Don't forget!

  • Hand carry essential medical information, your medicines and other medical supplies in case of the unexpected, such as lost luggage.
  • Bring enough of your medications to last for your entire trip, with enough extra to deal with possible emergencies. Also carry written prescriptions just in case.
  • If you need extra assistance boarding a plane or train, inform personnel when you check in so they can give you special instructions.
  • If you are planning to travel by plane or train, make arrangements for any special meals such as low-salt, low-fat or diabetic, at the time you make your reservations.
  • When making a hotel reservation, you can request a first-floor room or a handicapped-accessible room, if stairs or distances are a problem.
  • If you use a travel agent, tell the agent about any special needs you may have, such as special meals, accessible rooms, and assistance while changing planes. The agent can also advise you about special considerations regarding safe transport of dialysis supplies while traveling to foreign countries.

Why Canada is on the verge of an unprecedented rail labour stoppage

Transport Minister wants My50 travel pass continued in Budget 2025

Typhoon ampil veers away, allows transport to resume, typhoon ampil veers away from japan, allows transport to resume.

FOR the first time, Canada’s two main railway companies – Canadian National Railway (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) – are on the verge of a simultaneous labour stoppage that could inflict billions of dollars’ worth of economic damage.

Why are both companies poised to stop?

Contract talks between the Teamsters union and the companies usually take place a year apart, but in 2022, after the federal government introduced new rules on fatigue, CN requested a year-long extension to its existing deal rather than negotiate a new one.

This meant both companies’ labour agreements expired at the end of 2023 and talks have been ongoing since.

As a result, for the first time, the failure of negotiations would halt the vast majority of the Canadian freight rail system.

The Teamsters represent around 10,000 members who work as locomotive engineers, conductors, train and yard workers and rail traffic controllers at the two companies in Canada.

What is likely to happen next?

The companies say they will start locking out workers in the early hours of Thursday if they cannot reach a deal, while the union says it is ready to call a strike for that day.

CPKC has already given formal notice of a lock-out.

CPKC, created in 2023 through a merger of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, has a US and Mexican network which it says will operate normally.

CN also says trains on its US network will run.

That said, a strike will still lead to shipment disruptions south of the border.

Both rail operators and some of their US competitors have begun to refuse certain cross-border cargoes that would rely on the CN and CPKC networks.

CPKC has said it would halt new rail shipments originating in Canada, and new US shipments destined for Canada starting Aug 20, if talks with the Teamsters union in Canada fail to progress.

The railways move grain, autos, coal and potash, among other shipments.

What are the sides arguing about?

The union says CPKC wants “to gut the collective agreement of all safety-critical fatigue provisions”, meaning crews will be forced to stay awake longer, boosting the risk of accidents.

CPKC says its offer maintains the status quo for all work rules, “fully complies with new regulatory requirements for rest and does not in any way compromise safety.”

The Teamsters say CN wants to implement a forced relocation provision, which would see workers ordered to move across Canada for months at a time to fill labour shortages.

CN says it has made four offers this year on wages, rest, and labour availability while remaining fully compliant with government-mandated rules overseeing duty and rest periods.

What can the federal government do? Under article 107 of the federal labour code, Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon has broad powers and can order the sides to enter binding arbitration.

In 2023, his predecessor, Seamus O’Regan, issued such an order to end a dockworkers strike in British Columbia.

In that case, unlike the current rail dispute, the sides had largely agreed on the outlines of a deal. MacKinnon rejected a request last week by CN for binding arbitration, urging the sides instead to put in more effort at the negotiating table.

What happens if the union strikes?

If the Teamsters call a strike, the government can introduce back-to-work legislation forcing them to resume work. The previous federal Conservative government did that in 2012 to end a walkout by Canadian Pacific workers.

The current Liberal government though, has shown little interest in such a move in past disputes, preferring the sides to focus on negotiations.

A complicating factor is that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is being kept in power by the left-leaning New Democrats, who have traditionally enjoyed strong union support. — Reuters

Ukraine war latest: 'Mass disruption' to messaging apps in Russia; Moscow comes under huge drone attack

Moscow has come under one of the largest attacks by Ukrainian drones yet, with Russia saying it destroyed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight. It comes as Kyiv's forces continue to push into Russia's western Kursk region. Meanwhile, major messaging apps have been disrupted in Russia.

  • 'Mass disruption' of Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia
  • Ukraine making 'marginal advances' in Kursk
  • Russians in border region told to avoid dating apps
  • Moscow claims capture of another village in Ukraine's east
  • Michael Clarke : Ukrainians 'trying to worry Russia as much as they can'
  • Your questions answered: What is Ukraine hoping to achieve with invasion of Russia?

That's all our live coverage on the war in Ukraine for now.

We'll return with any major developments this evening. If not, we'll be back tomorrow with all the latest updates.

Here is a reminder of today's key events:

  • Moscow came under one of the largest attacks yet by Ukrainian drones, with Russia saying it destroyed all of them;
  • Kyiv's forces have reportedly destroyed or damaged all three bridges over the Seym River in western Russia, a move that could potentially trap Moscow's forces between the river, the Ukrainian advance into Russia and the Ukrainian border;
  • Russia's reported use of aerospace forces to defend against Ukraine's invasion "likely demonstrates continuing personnel shortages",  the UK's defence ministry said, adding the personnel are "being misused" which "could reduce Russian capacity to re-take territory in Kursk oblast";
  • Moscow's troops claimed to have taken control of a Ukrainian village in the push towards the key strategic hub of Pokrovsk city in the eastern Donetsk region;
  • Ukraine's parliament voted to ratify the Rome Statute, allowing the country to join the International Criminal Court - a key part of its drive to join the European Union;
  • Russians in the border region invaded by Ukraine have been told by Moscow's interior ministry to avoid using dating apps to prevent Kyiv's forces from gathering intelligence;
  • Telegram and WhatsApp were disrupted by a malicious attack which also affected other sites such as Wikipedia, Skype and Discord.

Ukrainian forces have made additional advances in their invasion of Russia's Kursk region, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has said.

The Washington-based think tank said Kyiv's forces were continuing to strike Russian pontoon bridges and pontoon engineering equipment (as we reported in our 2.51pm post).

In its assessment, it said Ukrainian troops do not control all of the territory behind the forward line of forces operating in Russia.

But it said Moscow's military command "continues to complicate and bureaucratise its thus-far ineffective command and control structure" for its response to the attack.

It also noted Russian authorities had reportedly re-deployed units from lower priority sectors of the frontline in Ukraine back to Russia in order to address the ongoing invasion in Kursk.

The ISW said it had previously noted such deployments "could affect the tempo of Russian offensive operations".

Russian Orthodox priests have brought an icon to the site of a massive fuel depot fire in southern Russia sparked by a Ukrainian drone attack in the hope it will help tame the blaze, the local diocese has said.

The icon of the Unburnt Bush is considered by Christians in Russia to be a talisman against fire.

We have been reporting on how the fire has been burning since Sunday despite efforts by firefighters to douse the flames.

Around 20 of 74 storage tanks were on fire, the RIA news agency reported on Tuesday, citing local administration boss Valery Gornich.

Volunteers who previously helped Ukrainian refugees are now providing shelter and essential items to Russians affected by Kyiv's invasion of western Russia.

We have more details on the mass disruption to the Telegram and WhatsApp messaging apps in Russia we reported earlier (see 12.57pm post).

Moscow's state communications monitoring service said the problems were caused by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

The service said the attack had been repelled and the messaging networks were working normally again.

Local media said other sites such as Wikipedia, Skype and the social media platform Discord had also been affected.

"The disruption is related to a DDoS attack on Russian telecom operators," the service said, without elaborating on who might have been responsible.

Russia began to block access to Telegram in 2018, a move which had little effect on the availability of the app there.

WhatsApp's parent company Meta was branded an "extremist" organisation by Moscow in 2022 and its other services such as Facebook and Instagram are now banned in Russia - though they can still be accessed via virtual private networks (VPNs).

Russia has closed airports in its northwestern cities of Murmansk and Apatity and restricted the use of airspace over those cities, the TASS news agency has reported.

Such measures are usually taken in Russia because of potential or actual Ukrainian drone attacks.

Ukraine attacked Moscow earlier today in one of the largest attacks yet on the Russian capital since the start of the war in 2022 (see 09.51am post).

Russian authorities said they had destroyed all of the drones headed towards the capital.

Kyiv has said its forces are using US-made HIMARS rockets to destroy pontoon bridges and engineering equipment in Russia's western Kursk region.

Ukraine has destroyed or damaged at least three bridges over the Seym River since Kyiv launched its attack three weeks ago.

"Where do Russian pontoon bridges 'disappear' in the Kursk region? Operators... accurately destroy them," Ukraine's special operations forces said on Telegram.

It said HIMARS rocket systems were used - the first official statement from Kyiv that Western weapons had been used as part of the offensive.

We are now seeing "the battle of the pontoon bridges," says our  defence and security analyst Professor Michael Clarke .

He says Russian vehicles carrying the pontoon equipment "are pretty obvious from the air because they've got bridge pieces on them," and the Ukrainians are using drones to go after the individual vehicles.

"When they see a pontoon bridge beginning to emerge they try and attack it. The Russians have been trying to build lots of these and the Ukrainians have been trying to attack them."

Russians in the border region invaded by Ukraine have been told to avoid using dating apps to prevent Kyiv's forces from gathering intelligence.

Moscow's interior ministry told residents, military and police personnel in the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions to avoid "online dating services".

"The enemy actively uses such resources for information gathering," it said on Telegram.

Ukrainian forces are continuing to push into Russia's western Kursk region in an offensive that began two weeks ago.

Ukraine's parliament has voted to ratify the Rome Statute, allowing the country to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) - a key part of its drive to join the European Union.

The move would allow authorities "to more effectively punish" suspected Russian war criminals, according to Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Honcharenko.

The ICC has issued arrest warrants for several Russian officials, including Vladimir Putin and former defence minister Sergei Shoigu for their roles in alleged crimes against Ukrainian civilians - Russia has denied targeting civilians.

"Ukraine has already worked effectively with the ICC to ensure comprehensive accountability for all Russian atrocities committed in the course of Russian aggression," Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted.

"This work will now be even more effective."
