Supersonic setlist: what Oasis need to play on their 2025 reunion tour

Liam and Noel Gallagher have buried the hatchet and Oasis stand to play their biggest and best shows ever in 2025. Here’s NME’s dream setlist for the reunion gigs no one thought would happen

The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The Great Wait is over. “What did you do in the Great Wait, grandad?” they’ll ask us. “I tried to like Black Midi ,” we’ll ruefully reply.

Now, England expects. While most of the country books up every Premier Inn room with a lock-pickable minibar in London, Manchester, Cardiff and Dublin for June 2025, in bleaker corners of the internet, the naysayers of Oasis ’ historic reunion are mustering, mumbling about the shocker that was Glastonbury 2004, about Liam storming off ahead of the 1996 US tour, about all the songs Noel let Liam write.

But I’ve been one of the most nayest of sayers when it comes to Oasis live, having watched them transform from a visceral, life-affirming Britrock explosion at Glastonbury and the Astoria in ‘94 to a tired, bored and animosity-wrecked stadium band well into the ‘00s. And I’m telling you now, these comeback shows will probably be the best Oasis gigs that have ever happened.

They’ve their whole career span to cherry-pick from and no disappointing new album to flog. There’s no endless global touring schedule to feel like they’re slogging through (not yet, anyway). No Andy Bell or Gem Archer ( probably ) to keep happy with a number or two. And Liam, whose indifference at some later Oasis shows often dragged the whole thing down, really wants to live his dream reunion large. All they need to get right now is the setlist. Luckily, it pretty much writes itself…

The main set

1 ‘acquiesce’.

‘Hello’ would be the obvious opener, but a trite one; “ It’s good to be back ” smacking of sneery cash-in. ‘Acquiesce’, instead, is perfect. A hard-rocking duet between the reunited brothers, Liam’s verse declaring, “ Who wants to be alone when we can feel alive instead? ” and Noel’s show-stealing chorus – essential for that Back! Onstage! Together! moment – answering, “ Because we need each other, we believe in one another ,” as though the reconciliation is genuine rather than divorce-driven, and all that talk about forks in a world of soup is behind them.

2 ‘Some Might Say’

The key to a successful Oasis reunion was always going to be excising the real plodders from the set. Y’know, the ‘D’You Know What I Mean’s and ‘Go Let It Out’s. Even ‘Roll With It’ is borderline and best avoided. ‘Some Might Say’ – as the set’s first big hitter – is as down-paced as they want to get at this stage and keeps the tone light: “ We will find a brighter day ” and all that.

3 ‘Lyla’

Those clompy later albums always arrived with a deceptively thrilling first single, and it’s important they’re represented so that the show doesn’t make Oasis out to be a two-album pony. ‘Lyla’’s a cracker, and Noel’s harmony is upfront for added unity value. Also acceptable: ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’.

4 ‘Shakermaker’

Loping groove, surreal lyrics, a signal that there’s no maybe about whether those debut album monsters are all on their way, and an early reminder of why the music press genuinely thought they might be the new Beatles . A watershed moment in the set: are they just going to play massive hits? Yes, they bloody are.

5 ‘The Hindu Times’

The most underrated tune from the latter-era canon – that infectious guitar riff, arguably the best thing they produced this century, deserves a proper stadium airing again.

6 ‘Columbia’

In terms of sheer crunching rock power, Oasis never really topped their first white-label promo single, and it’s still the nuclear core of any setlist.

7 ‘Cast No Shadow’

Acoustics out – ‘Wonderwall’ already? Better than that, ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’’s most lustrous ballad. Song subject Richard Ashcroft guests, duelling tambourines with Liam.

8 ‘She’s Electric’

Britpop must be honoured, so here’s a rinky-dink mid-set knees-up. Good opportunity for Liam to call Blur a bunch of c**ts, for maximum 1995ity.

9 ‘Stand By Me’

Tricky cove, ‘Be Here Now’. Album sales for miles, but barely a banger in sight. Only ‘Stand By Me’ has stood the test of time; a highlight of Liam’s solo sets and, for all its blatant Bowie steals (or more likely because of), an oasis of lushness and clarity in that swampy melodic desert.

10 ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’

High Flying Birds shows have allowed Noel to focus attention on the songs he sang with Oasis, honing their more elegant leanings and making adored fan favourites of them. ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ is just such an anthem for the ages now. Also acceptable: ‘Little By Little’.

11 ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’

While we’re at it, and if the High Flying Birds are really the backing band anyway , let’s have a Noel solo segment, shall we? Rhys Ifans guests on kettle percussion.

12 ‘Half The World Away’

It should just about be getting dark by now, so phone lights out for Noel’s heartwarming solo holler-along.

13 ‘Whatever’

Controversial choice, but this actionable early one-off Christmas single has been a brilliantly rendered, string-festooned highlight of Liam’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour. Ideal run-in to an almighty final 45.

14 ‘Slide Away’

The guns get bigger. With precision timing, formulated by Oasis’ specialist team of biological scientists, ‘Definitely Maybe’’s iconic canyon rocker kicks in at the exact same moment as pint four.

15 ‘Supersonic’

“ Ah need ta be maseeeeeylf! ” Widespread pandemonium as the breakthrough single convinces 90,000 inebriated rock fans that yes, actually, they can deeply relate to the line “ she’s done it with a doctor on a helicopter ”.

16 ‘Wonderwall’

Because they must. Life-affirming sing-along for the teenagers who missed out on the ‘90s and their bucket-hatted dads who still live there. Great bog and bar break for those of us bored shitless by the thing since about 1997.

17 ‘Morning Glory’

Blustery punk-out to close the main set. Liam punches the mike stand to the floor at the end, looking pissed off about an in-ear issue. Will they stay together for the encore?

18 ‘Rock’n’Roll Star’

A snarly, celebratory return, dedicated to “all the c**ts who said it couldn’t happen”.

19 ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’

90,000 people instantly forget that the pint they’re instinctively flinging in the air cost them north of ten quid.

20 ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’

Noel’s show-stealing moment. As Liam returns to the stage at the end, the brothers look like they might actually hug but settle for a gum-chewing nod.

21 ‘Live Forever’

Johnny Marr guests.

22 ‘Champagne Supernova’

The rafter rattling finale. John Squire guests; Harry Styles , Chris Martin and Hawk Tuah Girl spotted standing hopefully in the wings with the lyrics written on their hands. Normal antipathetic service resumes until 2039.

AKRON, Ohio -- The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is offering a special family fun loop ride on Sept. 21, for a unique fall experience on the train for visitors of all ages.

Departing from Akron Northside Station, the morning excursion will provide all the supplies needed for children to create crafts right on board. After, they can then participate in a game of old-fashioned bingo.

The ride will begin at 10 a.m. and last two hours. Organizers advise guests to arrive 45 minutes before departure.

The Akron Northside Station is located at 27 Ridge St. in Akron. Tickets for the family-friendly outing cost $20 for children and $25 for adults. Additional ride details and ticket purchasing are available online.

Tim Leong sat down with Marvel.com to share more about his process, vision, and hopes for Marvel Super Graphic .

Out of all of pop culture, why did you want to write about Marvel Comics? Marvel Comics were my first love. The first comic I remember reading as a kid was an issue of Spider-Man. I started reading comics smack dab in the middle of the Jim Lee era, about a year before the relaunched X-Men came out. I liked Spidey, but I loved the X-Men. I actually got a greater appreciation for the broader Marvel line through the Marvel Universe trading cards. Those cards opened me up to characters and stories I’d never heard of before and made me want to explore outside my current pull list. Those cards had another effect—they first introduced me to bar charts. On the back of the cards, each character had power ratings—my first exposure to comic book data!

What does telling stories with data do that you can’t get otherwise? Marvel has about 85 years' worth of comics. That’s a lot. The goal with this book is to help fans—whether they’re just starting out or are longtime readers—make sense of the thousands of amazing stories, introduce them to characters and stories they should check out, and delight them with interesting info. Sure, I could just write it all out, but charts and graphics provide a visual context that words can’t capture. 

“What can both longtime and new readers expect to get out of this book?” One new feature I added in this book is a series of “Story Spotlights” that focus on some of my favorite storylines: " Days of Future Past, "  the first arc of MS. MARVEL (2014) , " Daredevil: Born Again, " and more. It’s half comic recommendation, two-thirds analytical breakdown, and one-eighth jokes. I think that math checks out. There are also hundreds of characters referenced throughout the book. My hope is that some of them pique the interest of new readers and they’re inspired to read more about them—just like the Marvel trading cards did for me. 

About the Author Tim Leong is the award-winning author of Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to the Comic Book Universe and Star Wars Super Graphic . Where Kamala Harris Stands on the Issues: Abortion, Immigration and More

With Vice President Kamala Harris having replaced President Biden on the Democratic ticket, her stances on key issues will be scrutinized by both parties and the nation’s voters.

She has a long record in politics: as district attorney of San Francisco, as attorney general of California, as a senator, as a presidential candidate and as vice president.

Here is an overview of where she stands.

Ms. Harris supports legislation that would protect the right to abortion nationally, as Roe v. Wade did before it was overturned in 2022, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

After the Dobbs ruling, she became central to the Biden campaign’s efforts to keep the spotlight on abortion, given that Mr. Biden — with his personal discomfort with abortion and his support for restrictions earlier in his career — was a flawed messenger. In March, she made what was believed to be the first official visit to an abortion clinic by a president or vice president.

She consistently supported abortion rights during her time in the Senate, including cosponsoring legislation that would have banned common state-level restrictions, like requiring doctors to perform specific tests or have hospital admitting privileges in order to provide abortions.

As a presidential candidate in 2019, she argued that states with a history of restricting abortion rights in violation of Roe should be subject to what is known as pre-clearance for new abortion laws — those laws would have to be federally approved before they could take effect. That proposal is not viable now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe.

Climate change

Ms. Harris has supported the Biden administration’s climate efforts , including legislation that provided hundreds of billions of dollars in tax credits and rebates for renewable energy and electric vehicles.

“It is clear the clock is not just ticking, it is banging,” she said in a speech last year , referring to increasingly severe and frequent disasters spurred by climate change. “And that is why, one year ago, President Biden and I made the largest climate investment in America’s history.”

During her 2020 presidential campaign, she emphasized the need for environmental justice , a framework that calls for policies to address the adverse effects that climate change has on poor communities and people of color. She has emphasized that as vice president as well.

In 2019, Ms. Harris, then a senator, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, introduced legislation that would have evaluated environmental rules and laws by how they affected low-income communities. It would have also established an independent Office of Climate and Environmental Justice Accountability and created a “senior adviser on climate justice” within several federal agencies. In 2020, Ms. Harris introduced a more sweeping version of the bill. None of the legislation was passed.

Ms. Harris was tasked with leading the Biden administration’s efforts to secure voting rights legislation, a job she asked for . The legislation — which went through several iterations but was ultimately blocked in the Senate — would have countered voting restrictions in Republican-led states, limited gerrymandering and regulated campaign finance more strictly.

This year, she met with voting rights advocates and described a strategy that included creating a task force on threats to election workers and challenging state voting restrictions in court.

She has condemned former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. In a speech in 2022 marking the anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, she said that day had showed “what our nation would look like if the forces who seek to dismantle our democracy are successful.” She added, “What was at stake then, and now, is the right to have our future decided the way the Constitution prescribes it: by we the people, all the people.”

Economic policy

In campaign events this year, Ms. Harris has promoted the Biden administration’s economic policies, including the infrastructure bill that Mr. Biden signed, funding for small businesses, a provision in the Inflation Reduction Act that capped the cost of insulin for people on Medicare and student debt forgiveness.

She indicated at an event in May that the administration’s policies to combat climate change would also bring economic benefits by creating jobs in the renewable energy industry. At another event , she promoted more than $100 million in Energy Department grants for auto parts manufacturers to pivot to electric vehicles, which she said would “help to keep our auto supply chains here in America.”

As a senator, she introduced legislation that would have provided a tax credit of up to $6,000 for middle- and low-income families, a proposal she emphasized during her presidential campaign as a way to address income inequality.

Immigration

One of Ms. Harris’s mandates as vice president has been to address the root causes of migration from Latin America, like poverty and violence in migrants’ home countries. Last year, she announced $950 million in pledges from private companies to support Central American communities. Similar commitments made previously totaled about $3 billion.

In 2021, she visited the U.S.-Mexico border and said : “This issue cannot be reduced to a political issue. We’re talking about children, we’re talking about families, we are talking about suffering.”

More recently, she backed a bipartisan border security deal that Mr. Biden endorsed but Mr. Trump, by urging Republican lawmakers to kill it , effectively torpedoed. The legislation would have closed the border if crossings reached a set threshold, and it would have funded thousands of new border security agents and asylum officers. “We are very clear, and I think most Americans are clear, that we have a broken immigration system and we need to fix it,” Ms. Harris said in March .

Israel and Gaza

Ms. Harris called in March for an “immediate cease-fire” in Gaza and described the situation there as a “humanitarian catastrophe.” She said that “the threat Hamas poses to the people of Israel must be eliminated” but also that “too many innocent Palestinians have been killed.”

In an interview later that month , she emphasized her opposition to an Israeli invasion of Rafah, the city in southern Gaza to which more than a million people had fled. “I have studied the maps,” she said. “There’s nowhere for those folks to go, and we’re looking at about 1.5 million people in Rafah who are there because they were told to go there, most of them.”

She has said on multiple occasions that she supports a two-state solution.

Racial justice

Racial justice was a theme of Ms. Harris’s presidential campaign. In a memorable debate exchange in 2019 , she denounced Mr. Biden’s past work with segregationist senators and opposition to school busing mandates.

She has called for ending mandatory minimum sentences, cash bail and the death penalty, which disproportionately affect people of color.

Amid the protests that followed the police killing of George Floyd in 2020, she was one of the senators who introduced the Justice in Policing Act, which would have made it easier to prosecute police officers, created a national registry of police misconduct and required officers to complete training on racial profiling. It was not passed.

Her record as a prosecutor also came into play during her presidential campaign. Critics noted that as attorney general of California, she had generally avoided stepping in to investigate police killings.

Highly recommended for seeing much of Vietnam in 8 days. nice hotels, good locations, excellent tour guides (3), prompt transportation.....everything as advertised and better! Everything about the tour was excellent. The itinerary included the main places of interest to a first time (or repeat) visitor to Viet Nam (I first visited 20 years ago). The local tours at each location were very enjoyable and always well organized and professionally delivered by local guides who provided both details about each location and about local history, language and culture. The overnight visit to Ha Long Bay was a highlight. Hotels were always of very good quality, comfortable and located in or close to city centres. And they all included excellent buffet breakfasts and excellent service by staff. Transport, including airport transfers, was always comfortable, safe and on time. The tour was so well organized and coordinated. Long Pham of tour operator VIetnam Tour Fun made it all operate seamlessly - he was in constant contact to ensure everything was OK. The tour was very good value for money, and I certainly recommend it as an excellent overview of Viet Nam.
