It’s an excellent post and describes Catherine perfectly, imo.

Who she describes will be the same person on the throne.

I believe her to have the gene of wisdom. Someone who is always wise beyond their years. Who seems to know which path to follow by instinct. Practical, logical, confident, solid instincts, does her research. She applies those attributes to her work.

She’s a really good negotiator.

She’s seen as a bit boring and she’s fine with that. On the flip side, the private side, I think she’s funny, likes jokes that would be in bad taste to some, and talks all the time.

I think she has a solid goofy side, but I don’t think she is a practical jokester.

She has willpower beyond measure. She’s pretty strict with herself.

When she says it will be a certain way or handled a certain way, believe her. It’s not so much being stubborn as she has already worked out the angles in her head, and she’s confident of the direction it needs to go.

She will never forget certain negative experiences in her life. She uses them not to stay hurt but turns them into a kind of philosophy. She also uses it as a teaching experience for her own children. Well, for that matter, William, too. William who also has a wise gene.

They will do it their own way, being king and queen. Sticking with traditional values, keeping much of the old flavor of the monarchy. I don’t think there will be as many visitations. I expect them to get rid of the royal rota, as it exists now. I expect them to get rid of engagement counts. I expect them to keep working royals to a minimum.

I expect more extended family parties where pictures will be taken. Dress up parties, garden parties. Mixing patronage, volunteers, and royals together for splashy engagements. We already see it. Catherine’s Christmas Carol event. William’s Earthshot winners get together.

I think people will want to be part of what they are trying to do. Create pride. Service. Valor in every walk of life. Inspire creativity and art. How wonderful to be part of that.

How sad. I am so sorry @bobbydoguk . London was always my favorite city, and I spent so much time there in happiness. Wow. Hyde Park. Trying to wrap my mind around it… Just a couple of hundred years ago this was where even the highest-ranking elites would go each day to promenade.

This is not my country, but I am going to make an observation. And this one is getting harder for me to mind my tongue on, and perhaps my own business. But if Charles has the say on this issue and he is allowing it, he must be even more firmly in the pockets of the WEF than I can absorb. I always at least through all these decades believed he was well educated. He seems to have a strong love for preserving many things. But I have been around long enough to watch him lock step with the global agendas. And he, like them, have not even hidden it or what that is.

History shows what is coming. And he is working towards if not his own demise… the demise of his legacy and the monarchy. I have no idea what his pals promised him. But promises are empty and easily broken when countries are being invaded, sold out, and plundered.

My heart breaks for you England, The UK, Europe, and all of the west. We are not far behind, and in fact it is speeding up. Propaganda is legal in the US and right now there is lying going on. But the actions are speaking loudly and we are following in our British cousins’ wake. I am finding myself shifting through memories, getting my present life sorted, and preparing for what is a very grave possible outcome in the future.

Thanks for the space for a bit of a morning mini-vent. Okay, time for coffee. And then cat petting, cutting back some flowers in my very small garden, and then thinking about what to prepare for a Sunday supper. Day is calling and the weather much cooler.

• chuparosa (justicia californica).

- Native to Arizona but found in Southern California, New Mexico, and northern areas of Mexico.

- Flowers & petals are edible raw or cooked, dried or fresh.

- Similar to hibiscus, makes wonderful summer teas.

• Brittle Bush (Encelia farinosa)

Day 16 Sunday 1st September Myvatn - Akureyri 100km

Packed up and left camp site at 9.30am. Route 1 took an anti clockwise path around lake Myvatn. With the help of a slight tailwind, we soon made it to Godafoss Warerfall, 50km down the road. Stopped for a coffee, hot dog (Pylsa) and slice of apple cake. Checked out the waterfall then back on the bikes. The next 50km consisted of a few uphill sections. As we approached Akureyri, we could see the weather was turning. Donned the waterproofs and had a great long down hill. It was pretty steep and wet, my front v brakes pad wore down a lot, front rim was black, covered in lots of dust.

As we came down the hill into Eyjafjordur, it was pouring with rain and we still had 18km of ups as downs until we hit main Akureyri. Looking like drowned rats, we checked into Akureyri Backpackers Hostel as none of us fancied camping. Dried our clothes, enjoyed a complimentary drink at the backpacker’s bar. We were so hungry we had a late lunch (burger & chips hmm hmm hmm) at the bar then went for a walk with Mick & Kyle around town. Deciding that we were still hungry, Kyle & I grabbed an Indian at The Curry Hut takeaway, 2 doors from the hostel. Bellies full and content, we hit the sack.

Day 15th Saturday 31st August

Started the day with coffee & cake at Gamli Bistro with Mick & Kyle. Went for a 14km hike upto Hverfell, a 2700 year old tephra ring and Dimmiborgir, a giant jagged lava field. Along the way, we came across a water filled cave at Grjótagjá, the water was a rather lovely 45 dec C. Nice enough to dip your toes. Kyle went for a swim. After the hike, had hotdogs at the supermarket and then dinner.

Day 14 Friday 30th August Side of the road to Mŷvatn 22 miles

Packed up and hit the road at 10am. Started drizzling so got the waterproofs on. Enjoyed a nice tail wind, knocked out the first 20km pretty quicky. Terrain was reasonably flat with a few undulating hills, nothing too major. Went to Námafjall, an area of geothermal activity with steaming vents and bubbling mud pools. Lots of steam and hydrogen sulphide! After another gnarly 10% hill (yes I got off & pushed, Kyle & Mick rode up, they’re hardcore), we rolled into Reykjahlid. Enjoyed my first taste of Iceland favourite hotdog, the Pylsa. Very tasty with mustard, ketchup, remoulade, onions and onion croutons. Stayed at a campsite on the lake, very pretty.

Day 13 Thursday 29th August Side of the road - Myvatn 46 miles

Hit the road at 11am, first 20km was easy, flat ish with tailwind. Had some undulating hills and climbs, nothing too major. Saw the Google Maps car twice, so we might even feature in Iceland’s Streetview. We camped alongside a small river, not far from an extinct volcano. Had dinner the took a walk upto the volcano to check it out. It was a very windy night, the tent held up but needs some restitching.

Day 12 Wednesday 28th August Egilsstadir to a bridge over a river 37miles

Slow startup the morning, had coffee with Kyle at Salt Bistro in town. We hit the road at 2pm, and started cycling. It was lovely and sunny with a slight tail wind to help us along. We were planning to stop at campsite at Skjöldólfsstadir, but noticed that there was a short sharp hill to do. We figured it was better to do it today than deal with it in the morning. We continued up a gnarly hill for a few km camping along the side by a small bridge & river. We cooked up a lovely couscous, apricot, dates, sardines, sweet corn dinner. Delish!

Day 11 Tuesday 27th Aug Rest Day

Pottered around Egilsstadir. Went to the post office and sent home 4kg of stuff home, including the Kindle, a book, some clothes & tools. I’m hoping I won’t need the further down the line, fingers crossed! Picked up a Local SIM card too, I’m now armed with 5Gb of data, woohoo!

Mick & Kyle rolled in that evening. They had had a good 2 days following the eastern coastline.

Day 10 Monday 26th August Bus Day Höfn to Egilsstadir

To give my body a rest, I took a bus from to Egilsstadir. The bus took a cool route along the eastern coastline, in and out of the fjords. One town we stopped at briefly was Djupovogur. The water in the harbour was nice and flat. The sun was out, everything looked nice & pretty.

Arrived in Egilsstadir, luckily the bus stopped right at the campsite. Pitched up my tent. Met another 2 Canadians, Bryn & Ashley, from Vancouver Island. They’re car camping around Iceland, smart!! I think they thought I was Canadian as I was wearing my Arc'teryx soft shell. I think between the three of us, we were wearing enough Arc'teryx clothing to set up a store.

Day 9 Sunday 25th August

Rest day!! Enjoyed a lazy Sunday, had breakfast with Mick & Kyle, went down to the hot baths with them. 42 deg C of bliss, my leg muscles totally relaxed in the pool, felt awesome after a week on the road. Went to the supermarket, had lunch, chilled in campsite. Waved off Mick & Kyle, watched a fab sunset, took some photos then bed!

Day 8 Saturday 24th August Skaftafell to Höfn 83 miles

Oh surprise surprise, another rainy start. Waited for the cafe to open, scoffed 3 mini baguettes, a hot chocolate & a slice of carrot cake for brekky. So good!!

Plan was to cycle 50km to Jökulsárlón to watch a fireworks display at the iceberg lagoon. It’s an annual event to fundraiser for an Icelandic rescue charity I think.

Anyhow, I knocked out 70km pretty quickly with the aid of a nice tailwind. I arrived at the lagoon around 3 ish, pottered about for 2 hours and then wondered what to do. The fireworks display wasn’t until 11pm and there was no way I could kill 6 hours there. I had some lovely fish soup at a cafe there, but ended up wearing half of it courtesy of some nice gusts, great!!

I decided to push on for a bit as I saw that there was a campsite down the road. When I arrived there, it looked pretty poor. It was only 7pm and I realised that I was only 50km away from Höfn. I figured I could make that in 3 hours ish. I cracked on making good progress until the last 15km. Faced a bit of a headwind, but nothing like 2 days ago. Rolled into the campsite around 10.30pm, extremely tired, but glad that I could have. Hot meal & shower. Biggest day ever, 130km and my wrists, thighs & Achilles definitely knew about it

Day 7 Friday 23rd August 12km to Skaftafell

Woke up with my tummy doing acrobatics. Without too much info, squatting and gale force winds is a bad combination. I will never eat that many prunes in one go, ever ever again!!

After striking the tent, I cycled and pushed on for another 10km or so straight into headwinds. Mentally I was stronger today knowing that I didn’t have too far to go. I made it past the remains of an old bridge when the wind changed direction. Woohoo, finally a bit of a tail wind. After a quick expletive ridden outburst, I rolled into Skaftafell national park and saw Anita, Mick & Kyle. It was great to see those guys. They had wondered if I had pushed on or turned back.

Had some food in the cafe then took a wander to the edge of the glacier.

These last couple days have been the happiest I’ve had in a long time

I went through some of my drawers today and found an old notebook. This is where I would write on nights that I cut. There was still a blade in it. I skimmed through some of the entrees but had to stop. I put it back at the back of a drawer. I hope I don’t find it again for a long time.

In Canada we don’t replace 1/3 of the government every couple of years, we replace every single seat. EVERYONE has to run for a seat all at the same time, through the whole nation. Party that gets the most votes? Their leader usually becomes the Prime Minister. We need your help (And you can help by reblogging this too!) Not enough information on Canadian politics and issues is circulated on tumblr. Maybe not as rigged as yours, but it badly favours the Liberal and Conservative parties!), and been over-all pretty bad for us. It’s especially infuriating that we see all of this and also you guys reblogging photo-op pieces of him going on about how great he is for going to pride and being cute (That’s actually not an indicator here when only one party leader hasn’t gone in like, 20 years). We need the NDP or the Greens this year. We need them to have a loud voice at the very least. We need your help to do this. We need you to blog this time, for once, about an election that isn’t american. Our politics affect you too. We affect you as much as you affect us, we are neighbours and unless y’all invade us again some time soon, it’s not likely to change. Help us get someone better into office. Please, reblog posts about the Canadian Election when they start appearing in September/October. Americans Can And Should Reblog This Post Please.

This is super important. The kind of nasty, bigoted populism that’s come to rise in the USA has leeched up here too and they’re only getting bolder. I’ve never been a fan of the Conservative party but they’ve become particularly embedded with these kind of alt-right populist scumbags and they’re heavily relying both on the general lack of coverage of Canadian politics and masquerading as the old-style Conservatives to get elected. People will vote for them because most people (especially the older, more reliable voting base) only see the Liberals and Conservatives as viable parties so they will only vote for one of them, and people are pissed at Trudeau.  It really, really doesn’t bode well if Scheer gets elected in the Fall. Not for immigrants, or other marginalized communities, or the climate. And I’m no fan of Trudeau but as far as things to with relations to Trump, I can only imagine that Scheer would be infinitely worse. Those two controlling all of North America would be scary. This is honestly a terrifying time to be having an election the way that politics is going and we have few good options and are struggling with our own populist movement and a rise in hate and politically-motivated disinformation.  DON’T IGNORE THIS.

Also if any of you (Canadian or not) are looking to see more about Canadian politics on your dash, I highly recommend starting by following @allthecanadianpolitics (they’re left-wing but if you agree with this post I don’t think that’ll be an issue for you). There are blogs out there that do post about Canadian politics, they just tend to require a lot more searching to track down because tumblr is very saturated with American topics.

Here in NS a really common argument not to vote NDP is “the one time they got in they did a bad job.” I’m sorry, how many tries  are you going to give the Conservatives and Liberals to do a worse job over and over again?

And as for all my fellow Indigenous Canadians: Trudeau rode in on the backs of a lot of our peoples votes, because a lot of us believed in his lies, and because we were desperate to get Harper out and he seemed the most likely option.  But we can’t let this discourage us from voting again. Our ancestors went too long without the right for us to waste it.

And most of all:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sidestepped questions raised in the House of Commons on Tuesday about whether he was aware of secret instructions delivered in 2016 to public servants working on the federal review of the Trans Mountain expansion project. NDP Parliamentary Leader Guy Caron raised the questions after National Observer published a report detailing how a high-ranking federal official urged public servants from multiple departments to find a legally-sound way for Trudeau’s cabinet to approve the west coast pipeline project, proposed by Texas-based Kinder Morgan, four weeks before the government announced its decision. The instructions were provided to staffers from five different federal departments that were reviewing evidence and factors related to the approval. But they contrasted with the message that the government was delivering at that time to members of the public and to First Nations it was supposedly consulting about the project. “We now have a media report claiming that the process to approve Kinder Morgan was rigged, following lobbying from a Texas oil company,” Caron said in the Commons. “The government rushed the review process and instructed staff to find a ‘legally-sound basis to say yes to the Trans Mountain pipeline.’ Was the prime minister aware that members of his government pressured officials to rush the review and produce a positive result for Kinder Morgan?” The federal government has a legal duty to consult First Nations about decisions that may affect their rights, their land and their way of life under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution. As a result, the courts could overturn Trudeau’s approval of the Trans Mountain project if they determine federal consultations with First Nations weren’t done in a meaningful way. Trudeau responded by accusing New Democrats and Conservatives of trying to force the government to choose between either the environment or the economy.

Kumano Kodo Part 1 Smack on, on the day the rainy season officially started in Japan (this is always - typically orderly, regulated Japan - announced on national television), we were headed for Kumano Kodo. I do seem out of the luck with this place, having had to cancel my first attempt to the holy mountains of the Shinto religion last December, because rare snowfall made many of the mountain roads impassable. So we were in for 3 days of very gloomy weather (albeit with comfortable May temperatures, mostly above 20 degrees even in the evenings), which, once you had gotten over being soaked by the never ceasing rainfall (or staying in the car taking nap while waiting for it to stop) made this already fascinating corner of Japan, with it’s lonely dark pine forests, even more mythical.
