Event Details

The Arenacross British Championship is back for 2024!

Arenacross is a show like no other. It’s a high-octane mix of indoor Motocross racing from 6yo kids to the top Pros, Freestyle Motocross (FMX) madness and it’s packed to the rafters with all-round family fun and frenzied entertainment. It’s guaranteed to keep you on your feet yelling and hollering for more!

Round 1 kicked off at Bolesworth, Chester in September and set the scene for a 7 round tour of the UK in January and February 2023, where the reigning Champion Tommy Searle, and last year’s runner up Conrad Mewse will be returning to battle for the 2024 title.

Freestyle Motocross features throughout the show, and takes the action, quite literally, to another level! It’s mind-blowing, spectacular and dangerous in equal measure. It takes place some 60ft in the air when a group of insanely talented ‘rebels’ fly off a huge ramp over a platform in the centre of the arena, throwing loads of cool and seemingly impossible tricks, one-handed, no-handed, sideways, upside-down, you name it, they do it.

These awesome sporting stars compete in year-round world tour events such as the X-Games and Red Bull X-Fighters, but … you’ve got to get involved as the louder you scream, the bigger the tricks.

There is so much more to Arenacross all aimed at keeping the audience engaged and shrieking for more. Make sure you arrive early for the pre show autograph sessions as doors to the venue open, but don’t just take our word for it …. BUY TICKETS!

Arenacross

Arenacross is a high-octane mix of indoor Motocross racing and Freestyle Motocross, carefully choreographed into a three-hour live performance that includes lasers, pyrotechnics and unscripted racing all performed to a heart-pumping soundtrack. It may sound crazy … guess what? It is! But more than anything, it’s a brilliant family night out that’s suitable for all ages.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO SEE AT ARENACROSS? You’ll see twenty of the most insanely fast professional Motocross racers in the world compete in a number of races that qualify to a twelve-rider Main Event (the final race of the night) where they score points towards their eight-round Arenacross Championship that takes place across the UK’s leading Arena venues. There’s huge prize money up for grabs and they’ll lay anything on the line to win – get ready for race action at its most insane!

WHAT’S FREESTYLE MOTOCROSS Freestyle MX is the most dangerously spectacular art form of Motocross that takes place on a huge take-off and landing ramp that sits in the centre of the Arena. Don’t be surprised to see rider’s 60ft in the air, upside-down and holding on with just one hand! There are three Freestyle MX shows throughout the night, so expect to see plenty of action and be prepared to stand up and scream!

WHAT ELSE GOES ON? As soon as the doors open, the show is on, with vendors and games and rider signings in the foyer. Once seated, a t-shirt cannon and Mexican Wave gets the audience engaged and ready for the introduction of the riders. Then it’s non-stop action with fearless youth riders, some as young as seven-years, semi-pro and pro racers ready to battle to the finish line. Throw in some tense head-to-head eliminators and you’ll be hollering for more!   You can even buy an upgrade to arrive early, meet the stars of the show, walk the race track and see a private Freestyle Motocross show (limited availability).

HOW CAN YOU BUILD MOTOCROSS INDOORS? It’s not easy, but we’re the worlds’ best at it! With over 2,500 tons of dirt being moved into each Arena in a 24hr period during the days before the event, our team of dirt-sculpting experts create the ultimate racetrack playground that tests the skill of any world-class Motocross racer.

WHAT’S THE EVENT SCHEDULE? The doors to each Arena open at 5.30pm and the opening show starts at 6.30pm, and that’s an opening performance not to be missed! From then ‘switch-on’ its sensory feast of non-stop races, jump action and choreographed action-sports performances like no other. By 8.30pm all the riders have qualified to the Main Event with the final start gate dropping at 9.15pm – by 9.30pm the winner is crowned, champagne is spraying and the event draws to a spectacular crescendo of pyrotechnics, fire, and music – you’ll just be wondering where can I see Arenacross next!

AO Arena is being filled with thousands of tonnes of dirt for a night of motocross racing and unreal stunts

The dancefloor has become a dirt track to make way for hours of non-stop gravity-defying and nail-biting carnage. Sold.

Danny Jones

Manchester’s AO Arena is being filled with thousands of tonnes of dirt ahead of a truly epic, high-octane night of dirtbike racing, freestyle motocross and stunts you’ll only be able to watch through your fingers.

Over 3000 tonnes, to be precise — all courtesy of the much-anticipated Arenacross Tour 2024 .

That’s right: whether you can picture it or not, one of Manchester’s most iconic and beloved venues, where many of you will have watched countless gigs and live performances over the years, is set to be turned into one big dirt track, complete with giant makeshift ramps, jumps and more.

With the AO set to host one of the Arena ‘s most action-packed and biggest nights of extreme sports in the UK for just the third time in the event’s history, fans can expect everything from seven-year-old racing starlets to top pros competing for coveted titles.

Taking two days to build from start to finish including moving the dirt, the multi-discipline motocross event’s visit to Manchester on Saturday, 6 January has seen a total of 5,000 tonnes shipped from Bolesworth Castle in Tattenhall, Cheshire — the home of the Arenacross Festival — to assemble the full track and all its various aspects.

Requiring huge 25 dump trucks working around the clock (we’re talking loading the dirt until gone midnight and hauling it to the city centre by 5am that same day), a core team of 60 people and plenty more Arena staff chip to bring this gloriously muddy and petrol-fumed wonder to life.

Now into just the second round of Arenacross British Championship , Mancs will get to see the likes of reigning Champion Tommy Searle and last year’s runner-up Conrad Mewse battling it out for the 2024 title, as well all lots of tricks and bikes flying over 60 feet high in the air.

More than 500,000 people have come along to watch these events over the past decade and, considering what’s on show, it’s no surprise.

  • 16-year-old Luke Littler looks wise beyond his years in humble but happy post-final interviews
  • The city centre’s legendary Chinese New Year Dragon Parade confirmed for return in 2024
  • Manchester Storm break annual attendance record as UK ice hockey crowds continue to grow

As you can see, it isn’t just about what people are doing on two wheels either: there’s plenty of pyrotechnics, light shows and general fanfare to be enjoyed.

It’s the only indoor event of its kind anywhere in the UK and with this being their 78th show and their 10-year anniversary year, the organisers are determined to make this Manchester date bigger and better than ever.

It’s been five long years since Arenacross last came to Manchester and they’ve shifted over a quarter of a million tonnes of dirt to bring this thing to life since it started. Even witnessing the mountains of dirt being dumped into the middle of a floor we’re used to dancing on was pretty surreal.

This is definitely one of those things where you need to see it to believe it, so if you’re interested in experiencing the only indoor motocross event in the country this Saturday, you can grab your tickets for the event HERE .

Jermaine Jenas reacts to being sacked by the BBC live on talkSPORT

Jermaine Jenas has become the latest high-profile figure to be sacked by the BBC this week following complaints about his workplace conduct, with the former footballer reacting to the news whilst he was live on air with talkSPORT.

Jenas , 41, was officially sacked by the BBC on Thursday following what has so far been loosely described as inappropriate behaviour, with allegations pertaining to texts and other digital messages that were raised as a complaint.

The corporation was made aware of unsolicited communications a few weeks prior and it was only yesterday that the former footballer was removed from his roles on The One Show , Match of the Day and any other appearances for the network.

Reacting to the news whilst live on air for Hugh Woozencraft’s footballer transfers show, Jenas didn’t have much to say on the matter but you can hear a palpable tension in the air during the short impromptu radio segment.

Part 2 of Jenas interview pic.twitter.com/zdB9KCocQA — Chris (@chrisdotlatchem) August 22, 2024

As you can hear, while Jenas repeatedly insists he “can’t talk about it” as he is pressed on details surrounding the claims and the timeline of events, he does confess right from the off: “As you can probably see, I’m not happy about it.”

Going on to state that he will “have to let the lawyers deal with it” and “there are two sides to every story, as we know”, the ex-Newcastle and Spurs star is clearly trying to wrap up his time on the show as soon as possible.

A BBC spokesperson also clarified: “We can confirm that he [Jenas] is no longer part of our presenting lineup and that he has now been removed from their MediaCity HQ mural over in Salford, which previously featured Jenas alongside his former BBC Sport colleagues.

After Jenas then asks if they are still recording and if his microphone can be turned off, the line of questioning continues: “I can see that you’re fuming and I understand there are certain things you can’t talk about, but you are a major BBC star. Can you articulate any of your emotions towards the BBC and towards this happening to you?”

Refusing to be pressed on whether he knew about the decision before coming on the show and whether he’d like to apologise to any of the parties involved, he simply reiterates that he cannot talk about the situation for the 12th and final time.

  • ‘New’ Manchester team set to take Super League Basketball by storm

Neither Jenas himself nor his representatives are yet to issue an official statement on the matter and the BBC hasn’t given any further comment on the person(s) involved at the time.

This comes just a few months after fellow leading presenter Huw Edwards officially resigned from the BBC back in April following his own series allegations before ultimately pleading guilty to indecent images in July.

BBC’s official Code of Conduct states : “We want the standards here to give you the confidence to ask any questions if you’re not sure about something, and to speak up if you see something that doesn’t meet these standards. When you do, we’ll listen; we’ll talk openly, and we’ll act.”

Mancunian basketball fans can rejoice, as Manchester’s basketball scene, though still the subject of much uncertainty, is set to survive – just maybe not quite as you know it.

They might currently be known as the Manchester Giants , but the city’s biggest professional basketball team are looking like they are about to take on a whole new identity in the newly formed top-flight division, simply entitled Super League Basketball.

At one point, it looked unclear as to whether a pro division would even continue here in Greater Manchester or the UK as a whole, for that matter, after the British Basketball Federation revoked the British Basketball League’s license in July following concerns regarding the operators’ finances.

However, thanks to a consortium of clubs banding together, Super League Basketball (SLB) has now been officially established in its place , with Manchester being purchased as the ninth and final franchise soon to take part in the rebranded competition’s inaugural roster of teams.

Manchester’s male and female squads have been sold to the American-based private portfolio, Sherwood Family Investment Office.

The equity group invests in a variety of global projects and is now looking to bring an innovative and creative approach to the Manc basketball outfit.

Although it remains unclear as to what exactly this will look like for the club we know as the Giants at present, it’s being reported that the SLB Manchester team will likely be a whole new entity and brand.

Now led by chief executive officer Ned Sherwood, who boasts more than 40 years of experience at a large equity firm, and president Ben Pierson, it’s pretty much starting from a clean slate.

Even the current Giants administration themselves have confessed in a transparent update to fans on social media : “It is not clear at this time if the Giants name will remain”. The post also detailed that Dominique Allen, the club’s former operations manager, has now been promoted to head of operations.

A fascinating first introduction to the new Super League basketball… No @PlymCityPatriot – team has confirmed it will not be operating in goodbye statement "Manchester" – Giants have been sold to an American investment group and will likely rebrand, per Hoopsfix https://t.co/0vWXbdAbxF — Harry Harrison (@hharrisonjourno) August 19, 2024

Speaking on the acquisition, Sherwood explains : “The new energy of the league is palpable. We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting turning point in professional basketball in Great Britain.

“The goal over my career has been to find or build high-quality businesses with top-level management teams. As partners, we work tirelessly to help our businesses achieve long-term success. We look forward to developing a sustainable, elite franchise for Manchester.”

The new owners have also promised that the female team won’t be overlooked and will be “continuing in their elite competition.”

Since entering the previous top-flight division back in 2012, now formerly known as the BBL , it’s fair to say the Giants have somewhat struggled to live up to the hype of the city’s historic sports teams and the wider culture embedded within them.

In fact, the Manchester Giants only had one season in which they played above .500 basketball (win as many games as you lose) which came under head coach Lloyd Carner in the 2021-22 post-Covid cancellation year, finishing with a record 14-13.

manchester giants 2023

Frustratingly, Manchester is also home to the Magic and Mystics , one of the best youth basketball programmes anywhere in the UK. Both have won more than 50 national titles since 2000, developing heaps of internationals in that time.

Furthermore, the club runs a thriving Academy basketball scheme, that competes in the EABL (Elite Academy Basketball League) and WEABL (Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League).

This is the premier junior basketball competition in the UK and features a Diploma in Sporting Excellence pathway, hosting the very top under-19 programmes in the country. Yet, it seems, that little of this vital grassroots work has translated onto the senior court for Manchester basketball fans.

Nevertheless, with a wealthy pool and youth talent and these feeder programmes, this could be the time for the professional team to join the ride and take off. Manchester’s basketball scene is Super League-ready, it just needs a push, proper backing and the right infrastructure.

As per Hoopsfix , President Pierson went on to add in a statement: “Manchester is a world-class city for sport and culture. We aim to bring the Manchester franchise back to the level it belongs – competing for trophies for the city.

“Basketball in Manchester is an integral part of schools, youth, and culture. It is imperative that we restore stability throughout the franchise, and grow our partnerships throughout the community. We look forward to delivering on this through our actions, not just our words.”

Pierson is correct; Manchester has fantastic youth basketball, is home to the National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue , and boasts world-class teams and athletes across various disciplines, as well as being one of the most diverse and multicultural rich sporting capitals on the planet.

Adding pro-ball into the mix would only serve as more proof in the pudding.

Who knows for how long the Manchester Giants will be the name we know are ballers by? All we know is we’re glad the game isn’t leaving 0161 any time soon. Stay posted for more details on Super League Basketball’s upcoming debut season and the next iteration of Manchester’s premier basketball team.

Arenacross is set to light up Aberdeen

Arenacross is set to light up Aberdeen

The 2023 Arenacross Tour presented by Fix Auto UK lands at P&J Live in Aberdeen this weekend for flat-out indoor British Motocross Championship race action, and jaw-dropping Freestyle Motocross (FMX) tricks and spectacular whips.

The Scottish stop of the Tour makes up rounds three and four of the series. The Arena opens its doors at 6.30pm on Saturday the 28th of January, with rider autograph signing in the foyer and the chance to stock up on refreshments and Arenacross merchandise before the 7.30 show opening. The arena bowl reopens at 3.30pm on Sunday the 29th, with a matinee performance starting at 4.30pm.

On the local-rider front, three-times British Motocross Champion and Motocross Grand Prix winner Shaun Simpson, from Fife, will be battling the very best British motocross racers, including the reigning British MX1 champion Tommy Searle and British MX2 champion Conrad Mewse. They will muscle their way through qualifying races where the top four from each of two groups is guaranteed a place in the Main Final. The remaining riders have three chances to earn a place on the all-important final start line. First in a series of eliminator Head-to-Head races where the last man standing gets a place, then in a Last Chance Qualifier which is a brutal four-lap dash to the line where there can only be one winner, and finally the audience gets to vote by text to put their favourite rider through.

There will be plenty for a partisan crowd to cheer as Simpson will be joined in the arena by Pro Am riders Sam Rayner from Isle of Arran and Ralph Yeaman from Perth. Jack Arthur from Fife will be contesting the Futures group, while young six-year Ollie Hain from St Andrews will be flying the Saltire in the smallest category of Arenacross, the AX-E5 Electric British Championship.

The show is a high-octane mix of indoor Motocross racing and Freestyle MX carefully choreographed into a three-hour live performance that includes lasers, pyrotechnics and unscripted fun. It’s a brilliant family night out that’s suitable for all ages.

John Clark Motor Group, one of Scotland’s leading family owned and operated automotive businesses, is partnering with Arenacross for the Aberdeen leg of the Tour. It’s an established business with over 40 years’ experience and currently represents 15 leading automotive brands with dealerships across the Northeast of Scotland and Edinburgh. The group is rated ‘excellent’ on Trustpilot.

The group’s managing director Chris Clark said; “We are delighted to partner and support what is the UK’s leading indoor Motorsports Tour. Arenacross has an enviable reputation for putting on an exciting show and racing championship, suitable for all members of the family, whatever their age. This makes it a great fit for our business. The Tour has entertained tens of thousands across the entire UK and we are particularly excited to welcome Arenacross to our home here in Aberdeen.”

Tommy Searle is looking to defend his British AX title.

With record prize money topping £140k, Arenacross fans are in for a treat as the Championship embarks upon its tenth incredible year of entertaining over half-a-million Motocross fans across the UK.

New to the Championship for 2024 is long-time British Championship front-runner Harri Kullas, who can’t wait to spark up his rivalry with current British Champions Tommy Searle (Kawasaki) and Conrad Mewse (Honda). But it’s Stark Future that could arrive with more than a shock as Jack Brunell turns to electric power in his ten-year quest to become series Champion.

Series promoter Matt Bates said: “It’s finally January and I’m delighted that the 2024 British Arenacross Championship is a matter of days away. After months of preparation, we’re truly ready to rock the AO Arena this coming Saturday with the finest Motocross teams and talent, from reigning champion Tommy Searle to the rising stars of the future.

“A limited number of tickets remain, as well as track walk upgrades to jump your experience to the next level! Don’t miss your chance to enjoy an unmissable evening of racing and family entertainment to truly blow away the Christmas cobwebs and start your 2024 with a real bang.
