Garth Brooks to end Vegas residency, says he plans to be wife Trisha Yearwood's 'plus one'

Portrait of Melissa Ruggieri

After selling more than 150 million albums , filling stadiums for decades and earning highfalutin accolades such as the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and Kennedy Center Honors , Garth Brooks shouldn’t be affected by much.

But as the country titan announces the final shows of his sold-out Garth Brooks/Plus One residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, he’s legitimately going to miss it.

“If there was a guy who said I’ll do this the rest of my life, it would be me,” Brooks says in an exclusive phone interview with USA TODAY.

His spirited shows , packed with barnburners (“Callin' Baton Rouge,” “Papa Loved Mama”), tearjerkers (“Unanswered Prayers,” “The Dance”), covers of Billy Joel, George Strait, Wynonna Judd and Bob Seger and frequent appearances from fellow superstar wife Trisha Yearwood , will end in March.

Brooks' last batch of dates are Feb. 21-23 and 28 and March 1-2 and 7-9.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Tickets for the final shows go on sale at 1 p.m. ET Sept. 19 at ticketmaster.com/GarthVegas .

Citi cardmembers will have access to a presale starting at 1 p.m. Sept. 16. Those who have previously purchased tickets to Brooks’ residency will be able to buy tickets at 1 p.m. ET Sept. 17, while Caesars Rewards members and Live Nation customers are granted access at 1 p.m. ET Sept. 18.

Brooks, 62, also recently announced an end to Inside Studio G , the weekly online series he’s hosted since 2016 as a direct fan interaction, later this year.

“It’s time to figure out what’s next,” Brooks says. “We just launched the Garth Channel (on digital platform TuneIn) again, so we’re gonna funnel our stuff there.”

The ever-industrious Brooks talked more about saying goodbye to his Caesars residency – a live album is planned from the final shows – spending time with his band in Vegas and why it’s time to be the “plus one” for Yearwood.

More: Heart reschedules tour following Ann Wilson's cancer treatment. 'The best is yet to come!'

Now are these dates for next year really going to be the end?

(Laughs) Yes, they are. We signed a one-year deal and I didn’t want Caesars to lose their shirts so the second year was their option and they picked that up. I’m gonna miss it. The crowds are that great. I’ll put a Garth crowd around anyone, but bagging the phones (during shows) has made a huge difference because every show is a surprise to the fans. So it’s been fabulous. I hate to see the end of it.

We chatted the day of your opening night show in May 2023 and at that moment, you still weren’t sure what you would play first. You went with a Bob Seger song and have been opening with a cover almost every show since. How come?

I think it’s partially because I don’t want to give a Garth song away that early. But we have to soundcheck the room every night, so I pick a Seger or Keith Whitley or Randy Travis song to get a feel of the room, find which spots are hot. If it’s hot where you’re standing, when the band comes on, it’s twice as hot. I like to roam the stage, find the pockets. It’s my way of mapping the room.

What is it about Seger that makes you often play more than one of his songs in your set?

Seger is one of those people like the Eagles that if they had come out in the ‘90s, they’d be country, like James Taylor and the pedal steel player he used – that’s all country. Linda Ronstadt was country music and that was the era you kind of grew up in. I love their storytelling.

What have you enjoyed most about being in Vegas?

I’m spending an unbelievable amount of time with the band and crew. We have team dinners, we usually go shopping or to Topgolf. It’s a good family full of good people. Around 40 years ago I said life it too short for (jerks), so if you’re around people you love, who care if you’re stuck in a traffic jam, you’re blessed. Of the 31 of us (who are part of the residency shows), 24 of us started in 1994. Thirty years. That’s a family.

How would you compare this residency to the first one you did at Wynn (2009-2014)?

The first one was sweet – 1,400 people, me and the guitar. As much as I loved the freedom, what I was missing was this band. The band has come to some other level after 391 arena and stadium shows. (At Wynn) it was just Garth and a guitar . But when people at this Vegas show realize it’s not just a Garth and guitar show, you see the guys in the crowd come out of their chairs. The guy-to-girl ratio is half to half, with even more guys now. If it’s just Garth and a guitar, it’s gonna be hard to get the guys there and I love the guys. I love to see them sing and we’re all horrible dancers.

You opened your Friends in Low Places bar in Nashville in March and there have been rumors you’re looking at a Vegas outpost. Any truth to the chatter?

I think there is only one other place on this planet for it and it would be Vegas. It would be fun. And if it’s supposed to happen, it will. But it has to be organic and focused on three main things: service, cleanliness and security. I live near (the Nashville location) and I don’t know how much my trust factor would be with another one that far away. You want to send the message that we’re here for each other.

More: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band still rock, quake and shake after 50 years

What do you think you’ll do performing-wise after this?

I think my job for 2025 is to be the plus one. My wife is sweet enough to be there for me every time I need her. I need to return that and we need to hear her more than two songs a night. I told her I’d front her. I’ll stay backstage and do whatever she needs .

And what about the last show in March. Any special plans yet?

I’d love to film it. There something magical happening within those walls. We’re also going to put an end to (availability) of the “Double Live” and “Triple Live” albums (released in 1998 and 2019, respectively) and launch “Killer Live.” It pays tribute to other artists and medleys from towns we’ve been in, like Tom Petty in Florida and James Taylor in North Carolina . But first, we’ll probably record those last three weekends (at Caesars) for a live album. I want you to hear what I’m hearing.

A Tour of C++

by Bjarne Stroustrup

c plus tour

This poses challenges: How do you present C++? What techniques do you recommend? What language features and libraries do you emphasize? Presenting C++11 as a layer on top of C++98 would be as bad as representing C++98 as a layer on top of C. C++ must be presented as a whole, as the powerful tool for design and implementation that it is, rather than a set of independent features.

The Fourth Edition of The C++ Programming Language  attempts that and should become available in a few months. To help people get started with C++11 and with TC++PL4, I summarize C++11 in four chapters, collectively named A Tour of C++. Addison-Wesley graciously allowed me to post drafts of these chapters. I will do so over the next months.

c plus tour

The “Tour” is a tour of ISO Standard C++, rather than a tour of what’s new in C++11 or a tour of your favorite C++ implementation. Also, the tour assumes some familiarity with programming; it is not written for complete novices.

Constructive feedback is most welcome.

- Bjarne Stroustrup (November 2012)

P.S. For a list of new features in C++11, see my C++11 FAQ . Of course, TC++PL4 has such a list, but it is not part of the tour.

Take the Tour

  • Part 1: The Basics
  • Part 2: Abstraction Mechanisms
  • Part 3: Containers and Algorithms
  • Part 4: Concurrency and Utilities

The Tour is now also available in book form ; see cover image at right.

Preface to The C++ Programming Language, 4th Ed.

[Added March 2013: The Preface to Stroustrup's TC++PL4e mentioned above is now available and reproduced here with permission.]

All problems in computer science can be solved by another level of indirection, except for the problem of too many layers of indirection.

            — David J. Wheeler

C++ feels like a new language. That is, I can express my ideas more clearly, more simply, and more directly in C++11 than I could in C++98. Furthermore, the resulting programs are better checked by the compiler and run faster.

In this book, I aim for completeness. I describe every language feature and standard-library component that a professional programmer is likely to need. For each, I provide:

  • Rationale: What kinds of problems is it designed to help solve? What principles underlie the design? What are the fundamental limitations?
  • Specification: What is its definition? The level of detail is chosen for the expert programmer; the aspiring language lawyer can follow the many references to the ISO standard.
  • Examples: How can it be used well by itself and in combination with other features? What are the key techniques and idioms? What are the implications for maintainability and performance?

The use of C++ has changed dramatically over the years and so has the language itself. From the point of view of a programmer, most of the changes have been improvements. The current ISO standard C++ (ISO/IEC 14882:2011, usually called C++11) is simply a far better tool for writing quality software than were previous versions. How is it a better tool? What kinds of programming styles and techniques does modern C++ support? What language and standard-library features support those techniques? What are the basic building blocks of elegant, correct, maintainable, and efficient C++ code? Those are the key questions answered by this book. Many answers are not the same as you would find with 1985, 1995, or 2005 vintage C++: progress happens.

C++ is a general-purpose programming language emphasizing the design and use of type-rich, lightweight abstractions. It is particularly suited for resource-constrained applications, such as those found in software infrastructures. C++ rewards the programmer who takes the time to master techniques for writing quality code. C++ is a language for someone who takes the task of programming seriously. Our civilization depends critically on software; it had better be quality software.

There are billions of lines of C++ deployed. This puts a premium on stability, so 1985 and 1995 C++ code still works and will continue to work for decades. However, for all applications, you can do better with modern C++; if you stick to older styles, you will be writing lower-quality and worse-performing code. The emphasis on stability also implies that standards-conforming code you write today will still work a couple of decades from now. All code in this book conforms to the 2011 ISO C++ standard.

This book is aimed at three audiences:

  • C++ programmers who want to know what the latest ISO C++ standard has to offer,
  • C programmers who wonder what C++ provides beyond C, and
  • People with a background in application languages, such as Java, C#, Python, and Ruby, looking for something “closer to the machine” -- something more flexible, something offering better compile-time checking, or something offering better performance.

Naturally, these three groups are not disjoint -- a professional software developer masters more than just one programming language.

This book assumes that its readers are programmers. If you ask, “What’s a for-loop?” or “What’s a compiler?” then this book is not (yet) for you; instead, I recommend my Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++ to get started with programming and C++. Furthermore, I assume that readers have some maturity as software developers. If you ask “Why bother testing?” or say, “All languages are basically the same; just show me the syntax” or are confident that there is a single language that is ideal for every task, this is not the book for you.

What features does C++11 offer over and above C++98? A machine model suitable for modern computers with lots of concurrency. Language and standard-library facilities for doing systemslevel concurrent programming (e.g., using multicores). Regular expression handling, resource management pointers, random numbers, improved containers (including, hash tables), and more. General and uniform initialization, a simpler for -statement, move semantics, basic Unicode support, lambdas, general constant expressions, control over class defaults, variadic templates, user-defined literals, and more. Please remember that those libraries and language features exist to support programming techniques for developing quality software. They are meant to be used in combination -- as bricks in a building set -- rather than to be used individually in relative isolation to solve a specific problem. A computer is a universal machine, and C++ serves it in that capacity. In particular, C++’s design aims to be sufficiently flexible and general to cope with future problems undreamed of by its designers.

Acknowledgments

In addition to the people mentioned in the acknowledgment sections of the previous editions, I would like to thank Pete Becker, Hans-J. Boehm, Marshall Clow, Jonathan Coe, Lawrence Crowl, Walter Daugherty, J. Daniel Garcia, Robert Harle, Greg Hickman, Howard Hinnant, Brian Kernighan, Daniel Krügler, Nevin Liber, Michel Michaud, Gary Powell, Jan Christiaan van Winkel, and Leor Zolman. Without their help this book would have been much poorer.

Thanks to Howard Hinnant for answering many questions about the standard library.

Andrew Sutton is the author of the Origin library, which was the testbed for much of the discussion of emulating concepts in the template chapters, and of the matrix library that is the topic of Chapter 29. The Origin library is open source and can be found by searching the Web for “Origin” and “Andrew Sutton.”

Thanks to my graduate design class for finding more problems with the “tour chapters” than anyone else.

Had I been able to follow every piece of advice of my reviewers, the book would undoubtedly have been much improved, but it would also have been hundreds of pages longer. Every expert reviewer suggested adding technical details, advanced examples, and many useful development conventions; every novice reviewer (or educator) suggested adding examples; and most reviewers observed (correctly) that the book may be too long.

Thanks to Princeton University’s Computer Science Department, and especially Prof. Brian Kernighan, for hosting me for part of the sabbatical that gave me time to write this book.

Thanks to Cambridge University’s Computer Lab, and especially Prof. Andy Hopper, for hosting me for part of the sabbatical that gave me time to write this book.

The Bad Plus Announce Tour Dates Ahead of New Album, “Complex Emotions”

Kevin Johnson

The Bad Plus recently announced their upcoming album Complex Emotions will drop on November 8th. The quartet, featuring the magical rhythm section of Dave King and Reid Anderson , has now unveiled a set of winter tour dates to support it.

The band will begin in Woodstock, New York, on November 12th and head all the way down the coast to Florida before a run of dates at Dakota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, around Christmas. After a month-long break, they’ll pick up in Ohio on February 7th for a few dates before a five-night stay at Birdland in New York City. The final date is slated for February 23rd in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

Complex Emotions will mark the band’s second album since guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Chris Speed completed their new four-man lineup. With two years under their belt, the record cements the group’s new sound.

“With this new album and this new batch of music, we’re planting a flag to say that this version of the band has really come into its own,” Anderson explains. “A big part of what the sound of this band is is the willingness to explore complex emotions. That’s something that we’re not only comfortable with but that we’ve embraced from the beginning of the band.”

Hear the official audio for the first single from Complex Emotions , “French Horns.”

SINGAPORE: Pope Francis wrapped up an arduous 12-day tour of the Asia-Pacific on Friday, defying health concerns to connect with believers from the jungle of Papua New Guinea to the skyscrapers of Singapore.

The 87-year-old pontiff flies home from Singapore within hours, completing his longest trip in duration and distance since he became head of the world's estimated 1.4 billion Roman Catholics more than 13 years ago.

The Argentine pope has relied on a wheelchair since 2022 because of knee pain and sciatica. He had a hernia operation in June 2023, and earlier this year he battled flu and bronchitis.

But the octogenarian has clearly revelled in energising believers on this four-nation trip -- cheerfully goading young people in stadiums to shout out their agreement with his calls to help those in need.

The historic tour, initially planned for 2020 but postponed by the Covid-19 pandemic, has included 43 hours of flight time and a distance of 32,000km (almost 20,000 miles).

Occasionally, the pope has appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open when listening to late-night liturgical readings or to remain engaged during formal military parades.

But neither the pace -- 16 speeches and up to eight hours of time difference -- nor the heat, nor multiple meetings have forced any rescheduling of his international odyssey.

On a trip that took him to the outer edges of the Church's world, the pope delivered a sometimes uncomfortable message for leaders not to forget the poor and marginalised.

In Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority state, he visited the capital Istiqlal Mosque to deliver a joint message against conflict and climate change.

In sweltering Papua New Guinea, he donned a Bird of Paradise headdress in a remote, jungle village where he told inhabitants to halt violence and renounce "superstition and magic".

Addressing political and business leaders, he insisted that the country's vast natural resources should benefit the "entire community" -- a demand likely to resound in a nation where many believe their riches are being stolen or squandered.

And in staunchly Roman Catholic Timor-Leste he addressed nearly half the population, drawing about 600,000 rapturous believers in the tropical heat to a celebration of mass on the island's coast.

Francis addressed Timor-Leste's leaders, hailing a new era of "peace" since independence in 2002.

But he also called on them to do more to prevent abuse against young people, in a nod to recent Catholic Church child abuse scandals.

In the affluent city-state of Singapore, the pope called for "special attention" to be paid to protecting the dignity of migrant workers.

"These workers contribute a great deal to society and should be guaranteed a fair wage," he said.

There are an estimated 170 million migrant workers around the world. Most live in the Americas or Europe-Central Asia.

But the Argentine pope was otherwise full of praise for the "entrepreneurial spirit" and dynamism that built a "mass of ultra-modern skyscrapers that seem to rise from the sea" in his final destination.

Sandra Ross, 55, a church administrator in Singapore, said she still "feeling the warmth and joy" after attending mass led by the pope.

"I was deeply touched by Pope Francis' courage and dedication to his mission, despite his health challenges. His spirit and enthusiasm are truly inspiring," she said.

"This Asia tour is a beautiful gesture, highlighting the importance of unity and understanding across cultures and faiths." - AFP

KBS C-Taper Iron Shaft Review

  • on May 12, 2016

50 Words or Less

The KBS C-Taper iron shaft is amazingly accurate, responsive, and easy to control.  Low spin and stout feel make it a “must test” before installing.

KBS-C-Taper-6

Introduction

I’ll go ahead and say it: the KBS C-Taper is not an iron shaft for the faint of heart, but man , is it a killer shaft.  While low launch and low spin shafts generally feel stout and boardy, the C-Taper feels firm, direct, and smooth.  Golfer beware, the C-Taper is going to be very low launching with very low spin , but we like to say “you can hit a 4 iron down a long hallway” with it.

In a world where the only thing differentiating the look of a steel shaft is its label and whether or not it has steps, the KBS C-Taper has a much different appearance and texture than typically found in a set of irons.  The finish is a matte or brushed silver giving the shaft more of an industrial look as opposed to the usual sleek chrome look of a steel shaft.  The shaft is stepless and has larger shaft labels than the usual small KBS rectangle.

KBS-C-Taper-4

I believe the hallmark of the KBS C-Taper is its exceptional feel.  The C-Taper is easily one of the most stable shafts on the market with an extremely stiff tip section but a smooth overall feel .  Most shafts with similar characteristics tend to come off boardy, dead, and difficult to play with a lack of any “action.”  The C-Taper is exactly the opposite.  You still get the feeling of unloading the shaft but with extreme control and response making for more accurate shots.  One of the best parts of the C-Taper is the range of playability.  What I mean is that the shaft performs well on a smooth light swing and holds up great on a faster and more aggressive swing which would commonly result in a loss of control.

Of course, as we always say, it’s important to get fit and test the C-Taper first.  Many players find the C-Taper to play stiff to flex and have to make some equipment adjustments to maximize the performance of the shaft.  I originally played an extra stiff set and really struggled.  I wasn’t buying the C-Taper hype.  Then I went down to the Stiff+ (between stiff and extra stiff) and really unlocked the benefits of the shaft and became a believer.  For my money, there are fewer better feeling steel iron shafts out there .

KBS-C-Taper-8

Performance

To the point of getting fit for the KBS C-Taper being an absolute requirement, this is extremely apparent in the performance of the shaft.  I really don’t think you’ll find anyone that would argue the C-Taper isn’t a low, piercing shaft with very little spin.  The degree of these characteristics is going to change depending on the iron head and the player of course, but getting the right setup in your clubs is going to be crucial .  When I played the aforementioned extra stiff set of C-Tapers, I was hitting the lowest flying shots I’ve ever hit through the entire set and nothing would hold a green.  I was struggling to get wedges to come down and hold.  When I switched to the lighter flex I saw a very strong improvement.  My ball flight was  low but it had more carry and drop and less of a parabolic flight.  I also saw improvement in spin where my shorter irons were stopping on greens and the longer irons had more appropriate rollout.

Flight and spin aside, the KBS C-Taper is easily in the top three most accurate iron shafts I’ve ever hit in terms of choosing a target line and hitting it.  It almost feels like you lock in on the line you want to hit the ball and it’s like shooting a laser right at it.  Of course, you still have to get shape, distance, and location correct, but hitting on your intended line almost feels built into the shaft.

KBS-C-Taper-2

We’re very big fans of the way the KBS C-Taper plays here, but it’s important to make sure you get the right fit in your irons or else it can be a lot of shaft to contend with and difficult to tame.  If you get the combination right, you’ll be playing some of the most accurate iron shots you’ve ever hit with low spin, flight, and exceptional feel.

I’ve been playing Mizuno MP H5’s since March of this year…with the KBS Tour C-Taper Lite 105 R shafts with the silver finish. Love the clubs and shafts, BUT I’ve recently noticed a lot of light rusty-looking spots in the finish of the shafts. Can’t feel anything on the surface of the shaft, but I’m concerned about what is happening. I’ve played about 105 rounds in that time frame (plus a whole lot of practice sessions), and the clubs are stored in my locker at a TPC facility. None of my Vokey wedges stored in the same golf bag (Sun Mountain H2NO stand bag) show any signs of shaft rust.

Would appreciate any constructive comments you can make. Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I won’t be much help. Your best bet is to contact KBS or speak with your local KBS dealer.

I am looking at buying a set of taylormade 2017 m2 irons with these shafts,I hit the ball jason day high and i dont want to lose that because i think it looks cool, what would be a good mid flight shaft for these clubs or do u think i could use these.

Wait, I need some clarification around “because it looks cool.” So you could have a more optimal performance with a lower flight, but you prefer what looks cool? I’m really just trying to clarify the question, I know it has to read more negative than I intend it.

' src=

I’ve struggled with feeling as if my iron shots balloon and have a lot of spin, which makes playing in any type of wind extremely difficult. I’m considering trying these shafts to help combat those undesirable characteristics, but I’m worried about not being able to hold firm greens. How much harder do iron shots land with these shafts?

There’s no way to answer that universally. If you’re having problems with spin, I would suggest working with a good club fitter to find a better shaft.

Good day Bill

Taking in consideration the iron head / shaft ratio… will the KBS C-Taper stiff shaft performance work on a Titleist AP1 iron head. Or is it to much shaft for the club?

Bill is not writing for PIG at this time, so I’ll answer for him. There’s no reason the C-Taper couldn’t work with the AP1 as long as the combination fits your swing.

Hi, I’m thinking of getting these with the 718 CB titleist clubs? What are your thoughts?

If they fit your swing, it’s a great shaft. I would make sure I spent some time with a quality club fitter before I spent over $1,000 on a new set of irons.

Hi, I’m currently using the C-Taper 130X but I’m finding my ball flight a bit low with the 4,5 and 6 iron. Would it be a good idea to change the shaft in these to an C-Taper 120s or 125s+ to help with higher launch and less roll out?

It’s certainly worth testing out, but going softer can also lead to issues. I’d suggest working with a fitter to find a solution to the ball flight issues.

I replaced Project X 6.0 Flighted in my Callaway prototypes with Ctaper 120S soft stepped one time. Talking about shooting darts with lasers is an understatement. I highly recommend if someone is looking to play this shaft to get the correct flex and even look into soft stepping.

' src=

I have both C Taper lite 110 and the 130 X stiff. Best iron shafts I’ve ever hit. I was hitting the lite decent but I figured I would have control issues considering my swing speed is roughly 123. Found the 130 C tapers and now putting in the heads I like. Like waking up to Christmas every day.

I can agree with the bit about the ball falling down right at the target. It’s unreal how accurate these shafts are. I just got a set of ping i210s with ctaper s+ shafts and they are pure as anything. I actually am launching the ball a lot higher but they aren’t spinny at all. I was lasering 9 irons at the range yesterday to the 155 flag and the trajectory was awesome they just shoot right up to the apex, fall straight down and sit! Awesome shafts

' src=

I’m curious what your swing speed with a 6 iron is. I recently got fitted and bought the c taper x 130 with jpx921 forged heads. I have 96 to 97 swing speed with 6iron and was unfittingly playing true temper stiff 105 shafts. The new c taper x 130s feel a bit heavy and stiff, especially with the longer irons(launch and spin seems good). Is it something I need to get used to coming from and ultra lite shaft or should I think about going down the the S+? I believe I have a 90 days period to make adjustments through club champion.

I’m in the low 90s with a 6I. You’ve added a lot of weight and stiffness, so I would give the change some time. I’m a big proponent of trusting what happened in the fitting rather than getting overly concerned about a couple bad sessions with new clubs.

currently playing brigdestone j 40 with kbs tour 130x looking to purchase titelist t100s with kbs ctapers plus 125 how does this set up sound

If it fits you, it sounds great. The T100 is a great iron.

Are these 370 parallel or 355 taper tip! Has anyone talked about ball fitting for spin flight and dispersion since everyone seems to be hitting bullseyes! I picked up a set of C-taper 130x on eBay and will soft step these monster’s from your view and many other blog’s! They are going in my 1958/59 Hogan Saber Sunburst that has never been shafted! As for weight I feel like it’s just a getting use to period as you explained! In the 90’s my student put in graffaloy x blues and might as well of hit with a telephone pole ! So weight was of no concern since the ball goes exactly where the left wrist is at impact for a right handed swing and vice-versa for a left handed swing! I have a trap draw and feel like I’m hitting down a bit much at times that this will help with feel throughout my turn! I will give a reporter’s view of missed the cut at the Beamer by —— that much!

' src=

If I soft step a set of C-taper 130X, how would it compare to the 125S+ shafts?

It would be quite close.

' src=

Im thinking of getting the callaway rogue pro with Kbs Ctaper 110 R shafts…. a good combination for a 10 – 12 handicapper?

If you were fit for that combo and it worked in the fitting, I’d say it’s a good one.

I am a fairly beginner golfer. I’ve been playing the last year pretty much every other weekend. I currently use Titleist DCI that got me started & looking to purchase the Titleist T300 4-P with the C-Taper shaft. My driver is good & putting is solid, but iron game is hit or miss. I’m currently hitting about 100 on the course but looking to upgrade. Any advice would be great!!

I would strongly recommend that you get fit before buying new irons. The C-Taper is a very extreme shaft; it’s not a fit for the majority of golfers.

' src=

I put the C Taper shaft in a set of 1980 “The Haig” heads. I must say they are smoooooooth feeling. Also get excellent ball flight and spin. Not over spinning, but checking nicely. I’m thinking of doing another set of Wilson button backs as well. Experimental mix of vintage heads and newer shafts seems to be a sweet Combo. Do you know if this is a common thing to do? Thanks!

I don’t know that it’s common, but it’s something I see every now and again when I’m at Club Champion – a player who loves their old heads but uses modern shafts to optimize them.

' src=

I’m curious, would the C-Taper be considered a high balance point shaft? Are there other shafts that would be considered to have a higher BP than the C-Taper? Thanks.

It’s been quite a while since I wrote this review or gamed the C-Taper. I don’t recall it being particularly counterbalanced.

  25. KBS C-Taper Lite Shaft Review

The C-Taper Lite keeps most of that feel while adding a little more kick. This shaft still gives me the sense of being very accurate and stable because of the stiff tip section, but there's a little more action in the butt section. Whether you liked the feel of the original C-Taper or not, I think the C-Taper Lite could suit your tastes.

  26. KBS C-Taper Iron Shaft Review

The C-Taper is easily one of the most stable shafts on the market with an extremely stiff tip section but a smooth overall feel. Most shafts with similar characteristics tend to come off boardy, dead, and difficult to play with a lack of any "action.". The C-Taper is exactly the opposite. You still get the feeling of unloading the shaft but ...
