Tourist visa

A tourist visa is for those who are not eligible for  visa on arrival  or a  visa-free entry  to the UAE. You can apply for a tourist visa through airlines, hotels and travel agents. Read about the eligibility criteria and the steps to apply.

Multiple entry 5-year tourist visa

Who is a tourist visa for, who can apply for your tourist visa, related eservices.

The multiple entry 5-year tourist visa enables tourists to enter the UAE multiple times on self-sponsorship and remain in the country for 90 days on each visit, and can be extended for further 90 days. This type of tourist visa can be issued for all nationalities.

To obtain this visa, the applicant must have:

• a bank balance of 4,000 USD or its equivalent in foreign currencies during the last six months
• a valid health insurance policy applicable in the UAE
• a ticket to and from the UAE

Documents required

To apply for the multiple entry tourist visa, the applicant must provide the following:

• a colored photo
• a copy of the passport
• medical Insurance
• bank statement for the last 6 months with a balance 4,000 USD or its equivalent in foreign currencies
• tour programme
• a ticket for onward journey.

Tourist visa is for those who are not eligible for  visa on arrival  or a  visa-free entry  to the UAE. Tourist visa can be obtained for eligible individual tourists from around the world. Females below the age of 18 are not eligible to apply for this type of visa unless they are travelling with their parents.

According to a Cabinet resolution passed in July 2018, children under the age of 18 years who are accompanying adults, can get a  free visa for their visit from 15 July to 15 September each year.

Tourist visas through agencies and hotels

Licensed travel agents and hotels in the UAE can arrange a tourist visa for you provided you purchase the ticket through them and maintain hotel reservation with the specific hotel.

You can also contact travel agencies in your country for any tourist packages available to the UAE in collaboration with a local tour operator.

It is important to check the authenticity of travel agents you are dealing with and refrain from paying or sending copies of your official documents until after you are 100 per cent sure the tour operator is genuine. You can seek the help of the  UAE embassy in your country  for verification.

Note: The UAE embassies do not issue tourist visas. In order to get a tourist visa to the UAE, you need to get in touch with one of the UAE-based airlines, a tour agency or a hotel (where you intend to stay) in the UAE who will apply for visa on your behalf to the official  visa-issuing authorities  in the UAE.

What is UAE Visit Visa?

A UAE Visit Visa is basically an entry permit required by foreigners who wish to visit the UAE. There are two types of UAE Visit Visa – the Single-Entry Visit Visa and the Multiple-Entry Visit Visa. Both can be issued for 30 or 60 days according to your plans and schedule. While most visitors are tourists lured by the UAE’s world-class attractions, many come for a variety of other reasons. These include exploring job or business opportunities, pursuing educational studies, or seeking medical treatment at internationally-renowned hospitals. Yet more come to visit family and friends living in the UAE while others are simply transiting through the country. Eligibility

To apply for a UAE Visit Visa you will need a passport valid for at least 6 months. Some countries have special arrangements with the UAE allowing their citizens to travel without a visa. Instead, these citizens receive a free On Arrival visa when they enter the country. However, citizens of some other countries, such as South Africa , Turkey , Albania , Algeria , Morocco , Egypt , Jordan , India , Pakistan and Sri Lanka must apply for a prepaid visit visa. You will also need to show a return flight ticket when applying and may be asked for some additional documentation. But no need to worry – it’s very easy to apply for a UAE Visit Visa compared to most other countries.

Women and Children

The UAE culture is very protective of women and children and this extends to all its visitors. It is proud of its reputation as one of the safest countries in the world in which to live and to travel. The UAE Visit Visa Rules reflect this by imposing age restrictions to ensure the wellbeing of females and youngsters alike. If you are a female and want to travel to the UAE alone, you must be 18 years of age or above. If you are under 18, you should be accompanied by your parents or guardian. And as a bonus, from July 15 to September 15 each year, your visa will come compliments of the UAE

Parents in UAE: What if one or both of your parents already have a valid UAE work permit? In that case it will be easier for you to get a UAE Visa too. However you may be asked to submit supporting documents for your application.

* Nigerian Applicants Please Note: Nigerian citizens, whether male or female, travelling alone to the UAE, should be 40 years of age or older. UAE Visit Visa Validity

If you plan to extend or renew your Visit Visa, you should first know how long it is valid for. You will also want to know whether you get a grace period when the visa expires. This is important because overstaying your visa’s validity period can incur heavy fines.

• Validity Period: Every type of UAE Visit Visa has its own validity period which dictates how long you can stay. If you don’t have a grace period and remain in the country after expiry, you are ‘overstaying your visa’. For example, a 30-day single-entry visit visa will expire 30 days from your entry date. Similarly a 60-day multiple-entry visit visa will expire 60 days from your first entry but this visa does, of course, allow you to leave and re-enter the UAE numerous times within the 60 days
• Grace Period: When your UAE Visit Visa expires, you only qualify for a grace period if it is an On-Arrival visa for specific nationalities. The grace period is the time you are allowed to stay in the UAE after your official expiry date. It is a ‘courtesy extension’ and, during this time, you will not be charged any overstaying penalties. If, however, you have a Prepaid Visit Visa, there is no grace period and the expiry date strictly applies.

Extending UAE Visit Visa

If you entered the UAE with a prepaid visa, you can extend it twice. The first extension will be for 30 days and the second will get you another 30 days. Indeed, there are a number of different ways to extend your stay in the UAE, These include crossing the border to a neighboring country or doing the airport to airport visa change. UAE On-Arrival Visit Visa for Mexicans

If you have a Mexican passport, you qualify to enter the UAE without a visa. On arrival you will be given a free multiple entry on arrival visit visa that is valid for 180 days. When you enter the UAE the first time, you may exit and come back multiple times within six months .And when the 180 days are up, you can then apply for a prepaid UAE visa to stay even longer.

UAE on-arrival Visit Visa for Indians

Most Indian nationals coming to the UAE have to apply for a prepaid UAE Visit Visa. But some Indians residing outside their native country qualify for a 14-day On Arrival Visa by applying in GDRFA (Previously given this speical on arrival in airport, from 2024 May pre apply on arrival visa online). A special regulation introduced in 2017 bestows the privilege on Indian nationals with the following visas and permits:

• USA Green Card
• EU Residence Permit valid for at least 6 months
• UK residence Permit valid for at least 6 months

This particular on-arrival visa, however, is not free – but you will only have to pay 63 USD to get it. And you can extend this visa for another 14 days by paying AED 250 to UAE Immigration.

Six Months UAE Visa

The UAE government, in July 2019, introduced a 6-month UAE visit visa. The visa is available to entrepreneurs, investors, brilliant professionals and students of exceptional distinction. This visa is issued to people who qualify for it and they want to obtain a long-term residence permit to the UAE in some time. If you don’t fall into any of the categories mentioned, you cannot apply for the 6 months UAE visit visa so you can alternatively opt for the regular six months visa.

UAE Immigration Contacts

If you wish to independently contact the relevant immigration authorities like ICP , for any reason, their numbers are below. They will help you with any questions about UAE visa types, the Visa fee and any other general inquiries. They will also assist you in making a personal UAE visit visa validity check if that is what is concerning you.

Which emirate you receive your Visa from does not matter at all. Whether it is issued by Abu Dhabi , Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah or Umm Al Quwain is immaterial. You can enter the country through any of the seven emirates and your movements are not restricted in any way. It is a UAE visit visa and you can travel freely with it anywhere in the UAE.

The UAE Mission Visa is a special entry permit issued to professionals traveling to work short-term with a UAE-based company. When you are employed under this visa, the UAE authority considers you to be a ‘probational employee’. The mission visa can only be issued by certain registered UAE companies, so keep in touch with your potential employer. Also note that the Mission Visa is a single-entry visa valid for 90 days. So, if you leave the country before the 90 days are up, your visa gets cancelled automatically. If you have a mission visa, you cannot transfer to a visit visa or apply for a new permit. You must first cancel the mission visa by exiting the country – and only then can you apply anew.

What do you do if you have received a UAE Visit Visa but are now not going to use it? To avoid issues with the immigration authorities, you should cancel it in 30 days. You will be required to pay up to AED 300 to cancel an unused visa. Alternatively you can choose to extend the visa for two months at a cost of AED 200. You should cancel an unused fee because you cannot apply for a new one when the old one has still not been used.

Here is a quick guide on what is allowed and what is prohibited with a UAE visa:

• Engage in tourism activities, visit family and friends in any emirate and attend meetings and conferences.
• Attend job interviews and prepare to apply for a Residence Visa when you join the UAE workforce.
• Plan to start a new business in the UAE or buy a property. You can do the initial business and property gap research while on a visit visa.
• Work or volunteer to work for a UAE company, whether paid or unpaid.
• Open a bank account, or start a business, (you need a Residence Visa and Emirates ID to do that).
• Beg in the streets and you are liable to be fined AED 5,000. And that’s just the start – you could also be jailed for up to three months. Dubai: The winter holiday season is here and the UAE has become a hub for some of the biggest global events. From the Expo 2020 Dubai to the upcoming Dubai Shopping Festival, there are several things to do in the UAE. If you are planning to visit the UAE anytime soon and are unfamiliar with the visa requirements in the UAE and the processes that you need to follow, here is our detailed guide on all the visa options available to visitors if they wish to visit the UAE.

Do I need a visa to enter Dubai?

Whether you need a visa or not is dependent on your country of citizenship. While citizens of some countries have the option for a visa on arrival, you may need to apply for a visa before you enter the UAE in some other situations.

What is the validity period of my visa?

All visas are valid for 60 days from the date of issue until entry to the UAE, except the 48-hour and 96-hour Transit Visa, which is valid for 30 days.

What should I check before travelling to Dubai?

You would need to ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months at the time of entry. You may also require a prearranged visa depending on your nationality.

Can I get a visa on arrival?

Citizens of more than 50 countries do not require a pre-arranged visa to enter Dubai. As per the website of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, citizens of GCC countries and citizens of the following countries can get a visa on arrival:

Indian citizens

Some Indian citizens may also be eligible for a visa on arrival. These include Indian citizens holding a normal passport and either:

• a visit visa issued by the USA or

• a green card issued by the USA or

• a residence visa issued by the UK or

• a residence visa issued by the EU

In such cases, you can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 14 days, provided that the visa or the green card is valid for at least six months from the date of arrival into the UAE.

If you are not eligible for a visa on arrival, here are all the other visa options you can avail of:

1. Tourist visa – 30-day or 90-day

Tourist visas can be obtained by tourists from around the world. Depending on your plan, tourist visas to the UAE can be issued for 30-days or 90-day durations, and allow single entry or multiple entries.

Who can apply for your tourist visa?

1. Airlines

Each airline has some conditions, which must be met in order for your visa to be arranged by them. One of the conditions is flying with them. When booking your ticket, you can also enquire about applying for a visit visa.

2. Tourist visas through agencies and hotels

Licensed travel agents and hotels in the UAE can arrange a tourist visa for you, provided you purchase the ticket through them and maintain a hotel reservation with the specific hotel.

You can also contact travel agencies in your country for any tourist packages available to the UAE in collaboration with a local tour operator.

3. Through UAE-based family and friends

As per the VisitDubai website, UAE residents (friends or relatives) can apply on your behalf subject to guidelines.

How can I extend the visa?

While the first time you apply for a visit visa you may not be inside the UAE, when extending the visa for another period of 30 or 90 days, you would need to apply for an ‘inside country visa change’, according to Sirajudeen Ummer, a Public Relations Officer with Dubai-based First Gate Business Services.

“The visa can be extended by providing the necessary documents and making the fee payment,” he said.

Documents required for processing inside the country visa change

• Passport copy (which should be valid for at least six months)

• Passport size photograph

• Old visa tourist/cancelled visa copy

• On arrival nationalities would only require Passport copy and photograph if they have entered UAE using on-arrival facility.

• If the visa was applied for by a relative or friend, they may need to submit a copy of their residence visa page and UID number.

Visas can cost approximately Dh320 for a one-month visa and Dh720 for a three month visa. However, as per Ummer, the cost may vary slightly based on the travel agency’s service charges.

You can apply for the second renewal before the expiry of the first one against Dh600 each time of renewal.

2. Transit visa – for 48 to 96 hours

This type of a visa, which is available for all passport holders, from 48 to 96 hours, is ideal for a short stopover in the UAE.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai took to its social media channels recently to inform passengers of how they can apply for a 96-hour transit visa – or an entry permit – when they arrive in the UAE.

Service requirements

To be able to get a transit visa issued at the immigration counter, you would need to present the following:

• Original passport

• An airline ticket showing the continuation of your journey, where the connecting flight should not be less than eight hours after you land in the UAE and not exceeding 96 hours and the destination of arrival and departure are not similar.

• Present a valid hotel reservation in UAE.

Service procedures

To apply for a transit visa, follow these steps:

• Visiting the airline company.

• Submit a request to issue a 96-hour entry permit with the airline’s service officer.

• If the request is approved, you will receive an approval of the request.

• Approach the passport officer at the immigration counter and complete the procedure.

Who needs a transit visa?

As per the UAE government’s official website – u.ae – if you are not one of the nationalities that are eligible for visa on arrival or a visa-free entry to the UAE, then you need a transit visa.

Who can apply for your transit visa?

UAE based-airlines you are travelling with can arrange your transit visa prior to your journey. If your trip is through a travel agency, the agency can also help you get the visa, but all visas are routed through the airline.

"The Transit Visa is a non-extendable single entry visa, valid for 30 days from the date of issue and the duration of stay is up to 96 hours (four days) from the time of entry. Transit passengers stopping at Dubai International Airport for a minimum of eight hours are eligible for a 96-hour Transit Visa," Shafiq Muhammad, Public Relations Officer with Muhaisnah Documents Clearing Services in Dubai told Gulf News.

"Such a visa is preferred by passengers having business meetings or taking a stopover en route to their next destination," he added.

3. Long-term, multiple entry tourist visa for five years

In case you are looking to visit the UAE regularly over the next few years, a new visa option has opened up for tourists. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has provided details of the five-year multiple entry tourist visa for all nationalities through the authority’s website.

Is a UAE-based sponsor required for the visa?

According to the details provided when the visa was announced, the visa does not require a UAE-based individual or organisation to sponsor the visa. Tourists can apply for the visa on self-sponsorship.

What is the maximum duration of stay on the visa?

As per the announcement, a tourist can stay for 90 days on each visit. This can be extended for another 90 days.

Up until now, tourists could only get visas for 30-day or 90-day durations.

How to apply for the five-year tourist visa

Step 1: Log on to the ICA website – www.ica.gov.ae

Step 2: Select ‘E-channel Services’ from the main module on the website.

Step 3: Select ‘Public services’.

Step 4: Select the service ‘Visa – multi-trip / tourist long-term (5 years) for all nationalities / visa issuance’

Step 5: Fill in the application form with your personal details as well as your passport details.

Step 6: Attach the following documents:

• Coloured photograph

• Passport Copy

• Medical Insurance copy

• Bank statement for the last six months with a balance of at least $4,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in the last six months.

Step 7: Review your application.

Step 8: Make the payment for the fees. The application fee is Dh650.

Note: It is also important to check the PCR test and vaccination requirements before you book a ticket, after you have received a visa to travel to the UAE.

2. What do single Visa and multiple visa mean?

A single tourist visa means that your permission to enter Dubai is valid for only one visit. In this case, the duration of your stay may be between 60 to 70 days, depending on the allowance granted by the immigration service.

Your visa status must change from visitor/tourist visa to resident visa (with or without exit).

5. Are there any specific age criteria to consider for a visit visa application for Dubai?

Dubai visit visa requires males below the age of 18 years and females below the age of 22 to apply along with their parents, guardians, or husband, whoever is applicable. If not, such applicants below the mentioned age limit may face visa denial.

6. Can a recently married female whose new name and other concerning details have not been updated in the passport yet apply for a visit visa for Dubai?

• NOC (No Objection Certificate) from their parents
• Marriage certificate
• Wedding card
• Marriage photograph with their husband
• Photo ID proof

7. What kind of photograph can I attach to my visa application?

Your visa application photograph must be passport-sized, colored, and front-facing with a white background. There should be no accessories in the photograph, such as a hat, mask, or sunglasses that may cover your face.

You may wear your religious headgear. However, it should not cover or hide your (applicant’s) face in any way.

8. Can I apply for a Dubai visit visa without a return ticket?

Yes. It is not mandatory to attach your return ticket or a valid ticket to the next destination while applying for a visit visa to travel to Dubai. Visa approvals do come without air ticket submission. Abdul Rehman, a Pakistani national who came to the UAE on a visit visa around 18 months ago, is confident that he will be able to double his income once his status is legalised in the country.

“I’m currently earning around Dh1,500 to Dh2,000 doing odd jobs, but after my status is regularised, I believe I can double my income and make over Dh4,000. Because then I’ll be able to switch the company and move to a better place," Rehman said.

Through the two-month amnesty scheme launched by the government on September 1, Rehman, had been offered a job at a private firm. Many amnesty seekers, like Rehman, are eager to legalise their status and continue working in the UAE as part of a legal workforce.

The overstayers, primarily from South Asian countries, initially came to the UAE on visit visas and took up odd jobs without legal status.

Through the government's amnesty programme , they now have the opportunity to regularise their status, which allows them to secure better jobs and explore better opportunities.

Muhammad Murad, a Bangladeshi national who has been living in the UAE for around six years without legal status, is excited that he now would be able to change his status. A company in the scrap businesses has already offered him a job and hired him as a full-time employee, and he is already looking forward to being part of the legal workforce in the country.

“Now, I’ll be part of the regular workforce in the UAE and I thank the UAE for this great humanitarian gesture,” said Murad, who had come to legalise his status at the Federal Authority For Identity And Citizenship office in Sharjah.

Murad also mentioned that once his status is regularised, he can finally visit his family after seven long years. “I haven’t seen my family for 7 years. I am happy that I’ll be able to go to my home country and see my family after 7 long years once my status is regularised here in the UAE,” said Murad.

Thousands of people across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates are benefitting from the two-month amnesty scheme launched by the government.

Hannanur Rehman, who is also a Bangladeshi national, has been working in a private parking company after coming to the UAE on a visit visa 18 months ago. He has been living in the country without legal status since then. Following the announcement of amnesty, a construction company in Sharjah has also offered him a job.

“This is a great step by the government because many people will become legal now," Hannanur said, thanking the government's initiative, noting that many people like him will now become legal residents.
