The Tune Hotel klia2 is about 8 mins walk from the Departure Hall at the klia2, and it is connected to Gateway@klia2 mall by covered walkway.

To go to the hotel, exit the arrivals terminal after customs checkpoint and keep left. Follow signs towards BUS / TAXI. Then turn left to take the LIFT TO CARPARK B to Level P3.

Navigating KLIA2, the Air Asia Premium Red Lounge and staying in the Tune Hotel KLIA2

As fans of bargain air fares, we have visited the old KL LCCT (Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal) a lot. It was always a strange experience, more like being in a bus terminal than an airport, especially when we were often forced to walk 15 minutes across the tarmac to board our flights!

The LCCT no longer exists, in its place is the flashy new KLIA2 terminal and it is quite a different experience. Below you will find information about what to expect at this new terminal, Air Asia Premium Red Lounge review and a KLIA2 Tune Hotel review. We have stayed at this airport hotel both overnight and for a short transit.

KLIA2 is so much nicer than LCCT – they are not even comparable. There are lots of shops, restaurants, etc. In fact, you exit customs right into a shopping mall. There are even shops while waiting for luggage which is a great idea. There is, however, a distinct lack of shops and eating outlets by some of the departure gates. Eat before you get to the gate! It does look like they are in the process of adding lots more outlets by all the gates.

The biggest difference between KLIA2 and LCCT is just how huge KLIA2 is. It is massive. The downside of this is that it take a long time to walk between between the check in desks and the gates or the gates and immigration/baggage/customs. In fact, it felt like we were on a long hiking trip every time. It is a very long way for little legs and there is a distinct lack of travellators in much of the airport.

Our  kids’ Trunki cases were put to good use and we pulled them around the airport on these. I highly recommend one of these, a carrier or a stroller to get young kids around this terminal.

Getting to and from KLIA2

Getting to and from this terminal is very easy. There is a train service to KL Sentral as well as buses and taxis. We took a bus to KL Sentral as we were not in a rush and this saved a lot of money as they are substantially cheaper.

The train costs RM35 for an adult or RM15 for a child 2-12 and takes 33 minutes. The bus costs RM9.50 and our kids were free. It takes just under an hour in our experience.

If you are in transit overnight, for a half day or arrive super early in the morning like we did at KLIA2, you may want to consider staying at the Tune Hotel KLIA2 – a hotel at KLIA2. There are overnight and 3 hour packages available…

Tune Hotel KLIA2 review

If you have not heard of Tune Hotels , they are a budget hotel chain mostly in SE Asia but they have also branched out into Europe and Australia. They have a hotel right next to KLIA2 and it is easy to walk here with your luggage with an undercover walkway the whole way. You can take your baggage trolley. It is the best choice if you are looking for somewhere to transit between flights.

Most Tune Hotels make you pay extra for every “extra” (where an extra is a towel, air conditioning, wifi and other amenities). This is not the case at this Tune Hotel. The rate automatically includes all these things.

It is a budget hotel, so things are reasonably basic, but there is everything you need and our room was quite nice – much nicer than what I am used to with budget options. The room is small, but not as small as I expected. We fit the four of us and our luggage without a problem.

There are twin and double options. The kids and I shared the double bed and J stretched out on the floor. There were no extra charges for the kids. Ideally, you would want to book two rooms for a family of 4.

There is a choice of an overnight or a 3 hourly rate. When we arrived from Australia at 6am, we bought the three hourly rate since we knew we couldn’t check into our apartment in the city until 2pm. This actually worked out perfectly. By the time we got to the hotel, three hours was the perfect amount of time so that we took the bus into KL Sentral and then a train to KLCC and arrived at our apartment at exactly 2pm. The Tune Hotel is across the road from the transportation hub where all the buses depart and arrive.

Staying at the KLIA2 hotel is not the best choice for a long stay – you should definitely head in to Kuala Lumpur . However, for a short or overnight stop, the Tune Hotel is perfect and by far the easiest option.

How to get to Tune Hotel KLIA2: After exiting customs, go straight ahead and slightly to the left to a Baskin Robbins, look for a Car Park Entrance B sign and then the lift lobby next to this. Take the lift to CP3. Here you will see a Tune Hotel sign that will point you in the right direction and it’s super easy from there.

Air Asia Premium Red Lounge review

Another option while waiting for a flight at KLIA2 is the new Air Asia Premium Red Lounge. The more expensive fare classes with Air Asia get access prior to their flights. For 79 MYR per adult (kids under 12 are free) any Air Asia passenger on an international flight can get access to the lounge if they don’t already. 79 ringgit for the S, Z and myself (Josh) seemed like great value and KLIA2 airside is not the greatest terminal for transiting. So for our last stopover at KILA2 I decided to see how good the Air Asia lounge was.

Unsurprisingly it is simple, almost sparse. There’s some basic table and chair seating for dining, a small lounge area, an area with a bench that looked more for working and a quiet/rest area upstairs. There’s free wifi (although the terminal has that as well), a set of computers for use and lots of power points, although few are international (almost all are UK/Malaysian sockets). Perhaps best of all are the showers. Towels and lockers are available for a 20 MYR refundable deposit.

The quiet area upstairs has bean bags. However when we went there weren’t many people and it already felt pretty full. I wouldn’t rely on space being available. It was also hot and stuffy and not that comfortable. The lounge area is also small but seems to hold just as many people and is comfortable. There is a private room of sorts called the Up Lounge and it has some couches and its own TV and DVD player. I wasn’t sure how much it costs – if anything – and it might be a good spot for a family looking to rest up for a spell.

Food and drink wise the selection is not great. For food, there was a rubbery substance that was apparently mackerel in a past life in a soy and garlic sauce so strong it didn’t matter anyway. There was some steamed rice, cooked way too long beans and a vegetarian fried rice. It had all been sitting there a while. Some apples were a saving grace. Drinks wise things aren’t great but okay. There’s coke, water and a fancy coffee machine. Cans of Tiger beer are available for 15 MYR.

S and Z were not the only kids there and, provided they weren’t too loud or boisterous, they were fine. Admittedly this was a tall order for them. There’s one TV but with the sound down there’s nothing to hold their interest and no real room to blow off steam. We could play Uno and watch a movie on my laptop (with the sound right down) but we could do that anywhere. For older kids who are happy just to sit and do passive things, the space works better.

So was it worth it? I’m not sure. 79 MYR is not much for an adult and two kids, but this buys a lot of (better) food and drink in the food court and fast food restaurants that are airside in KLIA2 international. And there’s no couches but the food court does have plenty of places to sit. The lounge – in my opinion – has a few main advantages over the rest of the terminal: easy access to power (there’s lots around the airport but getting a free one is hard), all the water/coke you can drink (although its cheap at the food court) and the showers. If you’re only stopping off for a couple of hours then you mightn’t take enough advantage of those. For longer stop overs, the showers and chance to charge your devices while you rest up might be worth it.

If you are looking for an airport hotel at KLIA2, no doubt the Tune Hotel at KLIA2 has come up top of your list. Being the only KLIA2 hotel outside of the terminal but right next to it, this Tune Hotel has a fantastic location in its favour.

In fact, the location is exactly why we first stayed here and the primary reason why we keep going back. Thankfully, this hotel also makes things nice and easy with clean and comfortable rooms.

It’s backed by a well known brand in Malaysia, Tune Hotels, known for being a budget choice. As an airport hotel, however, this hotel remains cheap by airport standards but is far from having a budget price tag.

Tune Hotel KLIA2 Review

Before I show you some of the rooms we have stayed in at the Tune Hotel, I do want to point out that although Tune Hotels generally charges extra for anything they can – like towels, air conditioning and wifi – this Tune Hotels KLIA2 thankfully does not. These “extras” are included at the Tune KLIA2 hotel.

Double Room Review

The standard room is a double or twin. They are small and simple but clean and comfortable and have everything you need. In fact, I think it’s a very nice room for what is considered a very budget hotel chain.

There is a bed, big TV, desk and chair, bedside table and a cupboard. The curtains are great and it is easy to get some sleep in, even during the day.

The bathroom is small but has everything you need with toilet, basin and shower.

Note that a double is a double sized bed. We have stayed in one as a family of four when our kids were little and the hotel didn’t seem to have a problem. However, one double bed and not much floor space is a tight fit for a family and required a husband happy to sleep on the hard floor! It also would be tricky if you had much luggage.

The quadruple room we recently stayed in is much more comfortable…

Quadruple Room Review

There are family rooms available with two double beds in one room, but we recommend a quadruple room. It’s usually about the same price depending on dates . Sometimes, it can be cheaper than a family room so definitely pick the extra space of a quadruple room!

This is basically two connected rooms – one with twin beds and one with a double and there is much more space for a family. You also get two bathrooms this way!

The individual rooms are as described for a double room above – just one has two single beds instead of a double.

We have generally found all rooms at the hotel Tune KLIA2 to be clean and tidy EXCEPT there always seems to be one hair in the shower. Just one. It’s kind of strange.

The rooms are quiet except sound comes in easily from the hall. With people coming and going all the time and often not mindful of the noise they are making, I do find it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

Tune Hotel KLIA2 Facilities

There are not tons of facilities at the Tune Hotel KLIA2, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but you are right next door to the airport with many eating and shopping options. In fact, you walk past a small supermarket on the way to the hotel just after customs so you can stock up on supplies there.

The ground floor has plenty of space and many tables and chairs where you can sit and relax or have a drink and something to eat. You can even play a game of pool. It’s a nice area.

There is a small convenience store on site (as pictured above) as well as the Wonder Kafe. There is also a tour desk and luggage storage.

There is a library area too where you can read a book if you want.

Stay Options

As you would expect from an airport hotel, there are a few different options for stays from overnight to a day rate to a three hourly rate.

There is the possibility of a Tune Hotel KLIA2 day room for six or twelve hours between 7am to 7pm – you must check out by 7pm. Sometimes, there is a special discounted rate just between 2-4pm.

For an overnight stay, the Tune Hotel KLIA2 check in time is 2pm with check out at 11am the next day.

How To Get To Tune Hotel From KLIA2

The Tune Hotel KLIA2 location is hard to beat. It is basically across the road from the Transportation Hub at KLIA2. Take a look at this Tune Hotel KLIA2 map for a better idea:

In satellite view on the above map, the white line coming out from the Tune Hotel to KLIA2 is an undercover walkway that you take to the hotel. It is a very easy walk and you can roll your suitcase or even take a luggage trolley.

To find the Tune Hotel KLIA2, simply go straight ahead when you exit customs and to the left – if you walk straight ahead on the left hand side of the terminal, when you are nearly at the end you will see the following;

Look for the “Lift to Car Park B” sign in green above and then go into the lift lobby under this.

Take the lift to CP3, this is just one level down. Here, turn your head and you will see a Tune Hotel sign that will point you in the right direction and it’s super easy from there.

You will also see signs like the following after you exit customs to help you out.

The return journey from the Tune Hotel to KLIA2 is just as simple.

If you are coming from KLIA, you will first need to get to KLIA2. I detail all the options here . The free bus is the best option – it will drop you just across the road from the Tune Hotel and you should be able to see it from where you get off. I do prefer the Sama Sama Hotel at KLIA though ( more about it here ).

Final Words About Tune Hotel In KLIA2

This is a relatively budget, clean and comfortable option a very short walk from KLIA2. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting an easy stopover and I find it nicer than the stopover options in the terminal itself.

The other bonus is you can also book for day use. We have taken this option when arriving in the early hours of the morning from Australia so we can get some sleep in before transferring to Kuala Lumpur and being able to check in to our hotel there.

However, while we have enjoyed staying at the Tune Hotel KLIA2 and will continue to stay here in future, if you have more than a twelve hour layover, I recommend taking the train or bus over to KLIA and staying at the Sama Sama Hotel which is much nicer.

One night stay before going to Langkawi!”

The location is really... the best!! After finishing immigration, before completely going outside, I think it was near gate 3 on the left side, there is a sign that says to go towards Tune Hotel near the Family Mart by taking the escalator down one floor. If you follow that and go straight to the right, you will see stairs and an elevator on the left. Take the elevator down to the first floor... there is only one way to go, so just follow it and cross one traffic light and you will arrive at Tune Hotel^^ After coming down one floor on the escalator on the left side after finishing immigration, it's very easy to find. There is only one way to go^^ haha. I saw a hotel inside the airport while sightseeing the next day!! I'm sure I compared prices and if it's just for a short stopover, I highly recommend Tune Hotel even if it's a little more expensive. There are two Tune Hotels!! One is located a little away from the airport for around 20,000 won, and some people have confused it with this one when making reservations... (I heard they provide shuttle service to the other Tune Hotel). If you find a Tune Hotel for 20-30,000 won, make sure to confirm if it's the Tune Hotel next to the airport before making a reservation. The room condition is just like in the pictures... usually, I'm disappointed compared to the pictures, but since the exotic feeling and interior design were both my style, it was very nice to stay for a day^^

Stayed here one night. Facilities far exceeded my expectations. Hotel is beautifully decorated and maintained. Room was good sized and bed was comfortable. 2 bottles of water, bar soap and shampoo was provided. My booking included breakfast which was excellent - selection of breads, hot entrees and egg station. Coffee and juices included in the buffet but was also given a voucher for a free barista-made coffee from the Café to take to the room. This is a very well-managed hotel and will stay here on my next connection through KLIA2.

Lovely lobby with possibility to get snackfood & drinks. Nice inner courtyard with umbrellas and comfy outside seating to relax. Friendly efficient check in. Nice sized room (we had a regular twin room) facing the inner courtyard. Beds were big and comfy, extra pillow would have been great. NO tea/coffee making arrangement in room. Breakfast with plenty of choices and good quality good. We had a great nights sleep, no noise from suitcase wheels as our hallway was carpeted nor any outside/airport noise. Booked extra 8 hrs on the spot as flight delayed. Great pressure in shower and room/bathroom nice and clean. Easy covered walk from KLIA2, just make sure you get the elevator to the mezzanine floor between level 1 and 2 and you will see the sign for Tune hotel. Stayed here 7 weeks ago and was a completely different experience as I booked a room assigned upon arrival and got a budget room that was 1/2 the size of our room this time as well as a very hard bed. Alas was reflected in price paid. Have stayed other times as well and can recommend

Booked 4 rooms as transit hotel before our overseas trip. Exceptional location especially if you have a super early morning flight. Its easily accessible, just a short walk to KLIA2 to find food or just a walk-about. Staff very friendly and helpful. As our outbound flight was at 6am, they offered us a packed breakfast. Our Garden View room was clean and big (for TUNE standard). Bed was comfortable. I like that they installed a few big hooks on the wall, which I find very useful. We were also provided with a complimentary airport drop-off (need to be pre-booked). All in all, we had a good stay and will surely stay again if there is a need.

Excellent, affordable hotel for layovers”

My husband and I arrived at KLIA at 10.30pm and had an early morning flight at 6am the next day. Checked in to Tune Hotel for a short rest and was positively surprised and impressed when the staff informed us that they could pack our breakfast for takeaway the next morning so that we could rush for our flight. The room, albeit simple, was clean and sufficient for a couple of hours of rest. Will definitely stay with Tune Hotel again if I ever have a layover at KLIA.
