Like many other tour companies, Globus goes a lot of places. But where it really shines is with its focus on creating different tour types to suit different travel styles. Globus tour types include:

  • Small Group Discoveries :   Globus’ small-group departures are offered on all Europe and North America tours. These Small Group Discoveries trips average 20 to 24 travelers (compared to classic tour group average group size of 38).
  • Choice Touring:   Globus is the first escorted tour company to offer this sort of adaptive touring. On select stops on European and North American Choice Touring itineraries, guests can choose from three or four possible excursions (all included in the price). So, for example, while visiting Athens, you can choose a tour of the Acropolis Museum, a trip to the Temple of Poseidon, or a cruise to Aegina Island. Globus has 13 Choice Touring itineraries.
  • Undiscovered Tours :   With its deep-dive approach into lesser-known destinations, Globus’ Undiscovered Tours are ideal for repeat travelers to a destination and anyone looking for a slower, more in-depth experience.
  • Escapes by Globus : Off-season Escapes by Globus tours operate between November and March, and offer both better pricing (on average 30% less than the same tour during high season) and benefits like fewer crowds at popular spots. Globus offers 20 Escapes by Globus itineraries, mostly in Europe.
  • Independence by Globus :  New staring in 2023, Globus now offers a selection of independent city stay vacation packages (in Europe) and independent tours (in farther-flung destinations). This option offers the ease of booking that travelers get on a tour with the flexibility that comes with independent travel.
  • Special Event Tours : Globus also offers tours focused on North America’s iconic celebrations like Tournament of Roses Parade, Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta, and Alaska’s Iditarod race. These tours include up-close views and behind-the-scenes experiences.
  • Faith-Based Travel :   Globus offers a range of Faith-Based Vacations that offer a chance to reflect upon centuries of religious history.  These Europe-and-Middle-East-focused Christianity-based itineraries explore sacred locations in the Holy Land, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Tour Guides

Globus Tour Directors average over 20 years with the company.  Guides’ extensive training includes certification by the destination authority as well as proficiency in multiple languages, (including the local language). And most Tour Directors are from the country in which they tour.

Inclusions/Extras

swimmers in Budapest's Gellert spa, an option on Globus' tours

Add-ons include optional excursions, flights with complimentary airport transfers, and airport transfers for land-only guests.

Typical Travelers

Globus travelers average between age 50 and 70. Trips average about 70% of guests traveling as a couple or with family, and about 20% solo travelers. The majority of travelers are from the U.S., and about 30% of participants are from other English-speaking countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Communication

Globus is big on communication from the first contact through your return home. Vacation planners are available by phone, email, and online chat six days a week. Once you’ve booked, Globus kicks off its pre-trip communications to prepare you and build excitement. Pre-trip communications include a Travel Packet, complete with detailed itinerary, schedule and flight information (if flights are booked through Globus or Cosmos), destination information, tips and guidelines on pre-trip requirements and preparation for the destination, and the ability to add optional excursions to trips 90 days or less from the departure date.

GO IN COMFORT: How to Choose the Best Walking Shoes for Travel

Globus also provides access to its Globus GO app, which provides easy access to all tour components, including schedules, hotels, included features, destination information, optional excursions, interactive maps, and more.  This access is provided 30 to 40 days prior to departure.

Loyalty Program

The Globus family of brands (Globus, Cosmos, Avalon River Cruises) offers a Welcome Back Credit for all guests.  Each time you travel on a Globus family of brands vacation, you can earn up to a $250 (per person) Welcome Back Credit to use toward a future vacation.

The amount of credit (per person) on the tour price:

  • $2,499 or Less =   You earn $100 credit for a future tour
  • $2,500 to $3,499 = $150 credit
  • $3,500 to $4,499 = $200 credit
  • $4,500 & Over =   $250 credit

Guests have two years to book/deposit a vacation using the credit.

Private Options

Any Globus Europe tour can be converted into a Private Tour with a dedicated Tour Director, private transportation and driver, and personal, professional Local Guides. An additional premium, based on the overall number of guests, is charged for each traveler in addition to the published tour price. Every Private Tour includes all of the visits and entrances as outlined in the original published itinerary. And going private gives you the advantage of greater flexibility in pace and experience. To find out more, choose your tour from the existing Globus Europe portfolio, then reach out to Globus saying you’re interested in Private Tours and letting them know the number in your group (from 1 to 24 people).

Sustainability Efforts

Machu Picchu- broad view of site and mountains

Globus has merged all of its sustainability initiatives into the Lighthouse Project , which focuses on economic, social, and environmental support projects. There are dozens of specific causes within each category. Some projects are specific to a destination while others are broader–for instance its support of ocean cleanup efforts.

Health and Safety Practices

Globus has an extensive health and safety policy that currently includes enhanced cleaning of vehicles, ships, and hotels; and health screenings for guides and drivers.

Unfortunately we encountered two hurricanes. It didn't stop us from enjoying our trip. We loved the farm and the cliff of mors. Sad we didn't get to visit the Titanic museum. Next time.

New Zealand 14 Day North and South Island

Tour Director and two bus drivers were at top of their game. Leonie Brooks was an excellent director, with relevant knowledge, humor and just the right amount of firmness to keep everyone on track and the tour moving through an ambitious itinerary. The included sights were extraordinary, and the home dinner hosted by a Māori family, the Hole in the Rock boat cruise were highlights. Hotels varied in quality and convenience of location. Rydges Wellington and Scenic Franz Joseph were outstanding; Copthorne Bay of Islands and the Ramada Queenstown were inconvenient to town access. The hilly location of the Ramada was challenging for mobility impaired. The optional tour to Walter Peak Farm was well worth it mainly because of the sheep shearing and dog herding demonstration. The lunch stop at the sheep farm in Marston did offer much of value. Overall the tour was excellent. I suggest getting coaches with wifi access for the long rides associated with this itinerary.

A great experience

It was an amazing experience. From beginning to end I loved the entire tour. The tour director, Lucy, made the entire experience even better. She was great! I will continue to travel the world with Globus.

We saw so much of Costa Rica

The tour hit 4 different areas, which was great; Tortuguero, Arenal volcano, Monteverde, and San Jose . Every area was different and beautiful. Our tour guide Jorge was the best!

Date of experience : February 04, 2024

Excellent service and accommodations

Tom and Sean really made the trip amazing. It's been a few generations since any of the family was here so doing a quick tour through the country helped orient us some. The hotels and events were great. I had nothing to complain about there. Rather I would say well done Globus on the Hilton in city center in Dublin. They helped us out in many ways when asked.

Exploring beautiful Costa Rica

Our tour involved a variety of experiences, boating on the river to view wildlife, hiking in the cloud forest, walking on hanging bridges and enjoying beautiful beaches. It was well planned and good accommodation. Our tour guide Jorge was exceptional, very knowledgeable and truly loved his country. A very good tour.

Great guides in each town

A great value for your money. Globus is fantastic communicating with you and keeping you informed. Also, Great guides in each town, great places visited, very safe coach driver

Great experience

It was our first trip with Globus. We had a wonderful time in Ireland, trip was well organized, we had local guide Carmen, very knowledgeable and professional. Bus we were traveling with and hotels were comfortable. We can recommend Globus company to anyone.

Easter Island

Our local guide in Easter Island, Ringo, was fun and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our guide in Santiago was extremely helpful. The trip itself was very enjoyable and informative. The accommodations and food were good. We would recommend Globus for anyone wishing to an Easter Island tour.

Steve and Randy were excellent

Steve and Randy were excellent! Both were flexible, very helpful, always looking for other things to do. Also, the people on this trip were, for the most part, of good nature, and looking to enjoy themselves. Made for a very enjoyable trip.

Globus Wales Escape Feb 2024

Globus consistently provides excellent tours and guided travel. We have been on 6 trips with Globus to date. The Wales escape had very good itinerary and we were excited to see Stonehenge. A few of the stops could be eliminated and provided more time in other locations as the stops did not offer anything but time to walk around a cafe in one location. It could be better use of time. The guide provided great historical information which I enjoyed. I enjoyed being able to sleep in longer than on most tours. It helped adjusting to time change. Hotels were excellent and the optional dinner was fabulous. Entrance fees should be included in Bath and in The Caernarfon castle as Unesco world heritage sites. A stop to see the aqueducts would have been excellent as well! Overall very good tour! Would definitely recommend

Great Trip to New Zealand and Australia

In the past, we always booked our own accommodations and cars etc. But the distance and many site changes for a trip to New Zealand and Australia seemed daunting. We were hesitant to go on a tour. But, the Globus travel agent, Sean W. made it so easy for us. He found the right tour, with the right dates and helped us book it. The trip was great. Most of the accommodations were upscale, the sites selected were fascinating, and our tour director was outstanding. We would do it again.

Fantastic locations

Fantastic locations, great add-on excursions. José Lois, our guide was amazing. Highlights were the day trip to Gibraltar, the Flamenco dinner show, El Escorial & Al Alhambra.

I like having everything planned ahead…

I like having everything planned ahead and I don’t have any worries. They include important places to visit. The tour guides are knowledgeable and interesting.

Too much for a short tour

Guide and driver were exceptional in an industry filled with excellence. Both friendly and helpful and very good at what they do. The tour itinerary was not optimal in my view. Too many places or too few days in my opinion. Extra time was needed, especially at Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and Arches (I’ve been to all three in the past few years - love them all). My suggestion if the tour can’t be lengthened is to drop both Zion and Dead Horse Point in order to have more time at the other places. We barely scratched the surface of any place other than Grand Canyon.

Great vacation

Great tour guide. Tour was layed out very well. Nice smaller group. Communication from Globus was very good. The one thing that may be improved on is consistency of better quality accommodations.

Best Holiday Ever !

This was hands down the best holiday I have ever been on. The whole experience from start to end was amazing. I thought our tour director Tunde was knowledgable and genuinely cared about everyone’s happiness. Our bus driver Robert had some serious skills maneuvering that coach down some really narrow streets and was always there to offer a hand, getting off the coach My only issue was how this holiday was advertised. There were 41 of us when we started and we did the first 3 countries together. Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. However the last location we went to was Berlin and only 11 of us from the tour remained. Everyone else went home after Prague. A lot of people didn’t realize they could have extended the tour and would have if it had been advertised better. That’s a whopping 75% of the people from our tour who went home and didn’t continue the tour to Berlin. The extended tours were also exceptional. My husband and I initially booked 4 out of the 7 but had such a good experience we went ahead and did them all. I would use this company again and for every group tour I book in the future.

Australia and New Zealand were…

Australia and New Zealand were beautiful! The places we went were amazing. The breakfast and box lunches could use improvement. Arriving at the hotels earlier so we have time to enjoy those areas we stayed.

Experiencing Turkey

Globus followed thru on every expectation. The guide help with many Extra duties. The guide was knowledgeable and helpful, He made the trip super .

Had an awesome tour guide

Had an awesome tour guide, great hotels and beaches, interesting and fantastic excursions. Good bunch of people that I got to travel with for 10 days.

Why Travel with Globus?

Perfectly Planned. Seriously Stress Free.

After 90-plus years of sharing the world with travelers, Globus has set the gold standard for award-winning touring across virtually every continent. Our global network of premiere travel partners, operations experts, and hospitality pros share one goal in mind—an exceptional travel experience no matter where we travel together.

Beyond the Guidebooks.

While Italy is synonymous with spectacular food, it is the close family connection that brings generations of tradition to the table. Globus goes beyond typical tours to introduce you to local legends and local experiences not found on just any map. Meet the Bonajuto family at Antica Dolceria—the oldest confectionery in Sicily. More than 150 years after the dolceria was founded by Francesco Bonajuto, the family still serves its heavenly chocolates in the same spot, while also serving as international ambassadors of Sicilian cuisine. Che dolce!

Don’t Miss the Must Sees.

Why stand in line to catch a fleeting glimpse of ancient ruins and remarkable historic sites? Globus gives you VIP access with an expert Local Guide to go deeper, get closer, and soak it all in. From the Parthenon to the Vatican museums, you’ll explore Europe’s most beloved locations without getting lost in a crowd or waiting in line. Don’t just file past masterpieces like Michelangelo’s David or get only a hurried look at the Crown Jewels in Edinburgh Castle. Experience Europe’s extraordinary sights—and historic sites—with the VIP access you deserve.

Dreams Realized.

The Colosseum. The Prado. Saint Paul’s Cathedral. Each Globus tour always includes the legendary landmarks, the major attractions, and the must-see sites. Going beyond the iconic exteriors, we lead you to the front of the line, straight through the door, and inside the walls of Europe’s most awe-inspiring places for an exclusive look behind the scenes. With priority access, we ensure you behold the sights you’ve long dreamed of—without waiting any longer!

Do as the Locals Do.

When in Rome—or London, Paris, or Barcelona—we arrange for you to do as the locals do, not just what the tourists do. In every itinerary, we include hands-on, authentic experiences for a true taste of a day in the life. Board a private water taxi through the Grand Canal of Venice, bake scones in an Irish farmhouse, or sample Geysir Schnapps in Iceland. By striking a golf ball at St. Andrews or dancing the Sirtaki while sipping ouzo, you truly get to step into someone else’s shoes and experience the world from an insider’s perspective.

Adventure, a la Carte

While Globus vacations get you up close and personal to the world's must-see sights and unforgettable experiences, we also know the value of spending time on your own to explore as you please. After all, travel is meant to be filled with memorable moments of your own with serendipitous surprises that can’t be planned or scheduled. We build free time into every itinerary so you can leisurely explore the beckoning bookstore, tempting café table, or whimsical window shopping that's schedule free. Don’t wait a lifetime for that once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s waiting just around the corner!

Pick your Passion.

Maybe you’re an art lover, a foodie, or a history buff. Perhaps you’re moved by music, art, cuisine, or theater. Or maybe making tracks in the great outdoors is more your speed. We offer a wide array of optional excursions and activities—tailored to a variety of fitness levels and interests—so you can customize your adventure with your own personal passions and preferences. Each Globus excursion and activity has been personally tested by us and handpicked to allow you to really get to know each destination. You never have to choose between included and optional excursions, since optional activities fit seamlessly with your vacation schedule!

A Friend in Every City.

Join us and a few of our friends in your next dream destination. After all, we’ve spent over 90 years making friends in virtually every city and country in the world who let us in on local secrets, like where to find the best scone, stein, or spumoni; the best people-watching table; or the best view of wide-open spaces. Every Globus vacation includes local experts who share the stories behind the sights and Local Favorites you won’t find in the guidebooks. Globus Tour Directors and Local Guides hail from the region through which you’re traveling. No one is more familiar, passionate, or eager to share insider knowledge than our local pros!

2024 Germany Trip - AWESOME Tour Director!!

Our 2024 tour of Germany was amazing! The trip was made truly spectacular by our Tour Director, Alina Chinan. She was incredibly knowledgeable and did a great job of caring for our small group. She was wonderful with our children as well and super accommodating. We will definitely be requesting her for our next trip!

We haven't even left yet and I have a…

We haven't even left yet and I have a very bad feeling about this one. We are arriving a day early, had asked Globus about securing a room for us at the hotel, in Athens, where the tour would begin the following day. We received bad info from customer service reps (more than once). We were told that we would have to wait until the itinerary was finalized, to book that extra night, as they use several different hotels. Called right after receiving the final itinerary and all I got was no, no, no....we don't have any way to do that now! You should have called earlier. Once they have your final deposit, service is sketchy at best. I asked for a supervisor and waited 12 minutes, never did get to speak to one. Blasting them on social media might be my only recourse, sadly.

Celtic Highlights tour was wonderful

Celtic Highlights tour was wonderful. Stewart, our Driver was an absolute professional and very courteous to all of us. Dominic, our tour guide has an amazing knowledge of the countryside and history of each area and he is quite the character. My wife suffers from vertigo and the plane ride aggravated it. Dominic and Stewart went out of their way to make her comfortable. That allowed us to absolutely enjoy this beautiful trip.

Ireland Anniversary Trip

Our Ireland tour guide Julian was an awesome person, very knowledgeable and very witty, he made our trip for our 24th anniversary a special experience. He even went out of his way to help me find my ancestor's castle. Thank you Julian for a great and memorable trip. We will always remember you.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the hotel accommodations during my recent trip with Globus. The quality of the hotels was far below what I expected, particularly given the substantial amount I paid for the trip. It is not the responsibility of the guests to bring up these issues with the tour guide; these concerns should have been proactively addressed by Globus. I question whether Globus inspects the facilities, tests the food, or even stays in the rooms. If they did, I find it hard to believe they would choose these hotels for themselves, let alone their guests. Below are the specific issues I encountered at each hotel: - **7/7-7/8: Crown Hotel Plymouth** - The room had no hot water, a broken couch, peeling paint, and when I requested a room change, I was refused. To make matters worse, the view was of the roof. These issues made for a very uncomfortable stay. - **7/11: Clayton Hotel Glasgow** - The room's view was also of the roof, the accommodations were subpar, only one elevator was functioning, and the dinner served was simply unacceptable. - **7/12: Mercure Hotel Inverness** - Again, the accommodations were substandard. The window latch was broken, there was no air conditioning, the gym was non-existent, and the elevators could barely accommodate 2-4 people at a time. - **7/13-7/15: Mercure Hotel Edinburgh** - The window would not latch securely, the view was of a brick wall, there was no phone in the room, and the fan provided had no front cover, making it unsafe to use. - **7/15-7/16: Mercure York** - This was, by far, the worst hotel of the trip. My first-floor room was noisy, the hallway reeked of sewage, and there was tissue stuffed in the ceiling crown molding to hide a hole. The room had no air conditioning or fan, and I could not open the windows as the room was on the first floor. Additionally, the dinner served was unappetizing. Globus solution to this was to offer me a $650 refund! Unacceptable. Do not use them you will regret it.

Classical Greece

Classical Greece  - We just can't say enough about how exceptional our tour guide Sophia was. Most all of our guides in the past were good, but with Sophia, she was so knowledgeable, professional and kept the entire trip moving very smoothly. This was an awesome trip!

Just completed Emerald Isle tour

Just completed Emerald Isle tour. We have been on many tours with Globus and others -- our tour director, Julian, was the best tour director we have ever had, bar none. He was extremely knowledgeable and HUMOROUS! Made the entire trip a home run

Our tour director

Our tour director, Christine was absolutely fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, kind, friendly, and went above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Christine really tried to get to know everyone on the tour, their likes and needs. She frequently shared her own personal experiences. It is obvious that she really enjoys her job and also enjoys working with people. The tour took us to fabulous places and the hotels were located in central areas, allowing us to walk to many points of interest.

Fantastic Journey to Cuba!

It was a very well-planned tour with impeccable precision, experiences, and details. Globus and Cuban guides/directors were superb. Loved the experiences. I did contact Globus after we returned with one problem. At our MKE airport they mandated we give them our immigration papers...said we couldn't fly without the QR code...lady at counter finally gave us the website...Globus needs to prepare people for that.

It was a great trip

It was a great trip. The airport transfers were great. We are very glad we arrived a day ahead of time, which allowed us to adjust to the time difference. We also greatly enjoyed our 2 day extension in Prague. Our tour guide was very nice, and provided historical information during our bus trips. Our bus driver was a gem,and really knew how to navigate the city traffic. We loved that our tour allowed for enough free time to explore on our own. We took advantage of optional tours in each city visited, and enjoyed those. The local guides provided a great orientation to the cities, and provided great historical insights.

Vietnam Globus Tour

First and foremost, our tour guide Dinh was outstanding. He knows his stuff, excellent customer service and he made our tour great! He even met us at the airport in Hanoi at 1:00 a.m. to get us to our hotel when we first arrived!! Second, our accommodations (including food and beverage services) were all excellent. Third, our daily excursions/activities were all very good and as promised, and more, in the information we received ahead of time. Fourth, the communications by Globus with us was excellent. Confirmations, Travel Documents, Travel Packet and the app were all really good and very useful for us.

Highlights of the South Pacific: New Zealand and Australia

We selected this tour based on the itinerary- it hit all the key spots we were interested in seeing . The online Globus portal allowed us to submit all required docs for international travel and gave details on the hotels and event on our tour. Our tour director Leonie was FABULOUS! She was very knowledgeable, funny, and kept us on schedule. She created a WhatsApp group so we could easily communicate with everyone in the group and share photos. Highly recommend Globus tours!

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome

Our travel guide Ronan was awesome! Unfortunately we got stuck in New Zealand because of a visa problem and the global emergency line never would get back with us to help. We had to figure out and book our own flights to get caught up with our tour. The tour was five stars long as you didn’t have any problems if you are on your tour and you have an emergency problem, you are definitely on your own never heard back from them.

This was my second Globus tour

This was my second Globus tour. Michael the tour guide was very knowledgeable, personable and helpful as well as Barry the coach driver, they were both great! Definitely enjoyed this trip. The price was excellent I checked out several tour companies and Globus had the best deals. Booked another trip in November to Ireland. I would definitely recommend Globus Tours.

We had the most wonderful tour…

We had the most wonderful tour guide/tour director, Robert Marks. He knew so many things and treated us with great respect. We would recommend Globus just based on Robert. In addition we had great accommodations and a small (6 people) group of congenial people.

Marvelous Egypt

In February, my husband and I visited Egypt 🇪🇬 for two weeks, staying at five-star hotels. I cried due to seeing great temples of history such as Karnak, Luxor, pyramids of Giza, catacombs at Alexandria, sarcophagus of famous pharaohs, Egyptian museum (relics, art, chariots, masks, tombs, etc. from 3,000 years ago), Aswan, additional pyramids, Lake Nasser, a Nubian village, the Valley of the Dead, Tutankhamen’s mummy and treasures, hieroglyphs, place where Moses was supposedly plucked out of the Nile river, and so much more. This trip exceeded my wildest expectations. It’s one of the best ever and I have recommended it to my friends. The Egyptian people are friendly, helpful and we felt safe. Our tour director was so knowledgeable and helpful too. Wish I could go again.

The Spanish escape was excellent

The Spanish escape was excellent. Loved all the places we visited and our tour director, Benjamin, made it so much fun while also being informative. We lucked up with excellent weather which made all the sightseeing easier. Will definitely use Globus again.

Beautiful Spain

I really enjoyed all the beautiful places we went and the amazing hotels. Our guide, Jose, was spectacular, and always shared with the group, historical facts about the places we were visiting. The food was very delicious, though I was hoping for some Paella and succulent pig.

Globus took very good care of us

Globus took very good care of us. The travel director, bus driver, and local tour guides were exceptional. They all gave us detailed information and history about the sites we were visiting. The travel itineraries were focused and the right pace for adventure.

The grand tour: one for the road review – ending on a high.

Mike Bartholomew headshot

Spoiler warning for The Grand Tour: One For The Road

How exactly do you bring an end to Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May’s time on The Grand Tour, and by extension, the 21 series of Top Gear they fronted together? It must have been a difficult task – these two shows have meant so much to so many people, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this is the end of an era.

Well, you end it like this. One For The Road is Clarkson, Hammond and May, and the entire creative and production team behind this show, at their very best.

Let’s start with the setting. The best TG and TGT specials have always gone out of their way to show off the natural beauty of the countries they’re filmed in, and in One For The Road, Zimbabwe looks endlessly spectacular. Filming tech has come a long way since Top Gear first visited Africa for a special back in 2007, and the advent of higher-end cameras, drones and HD TV makes this probably the most visually spectacular the trio’s ever undertaken.

The Grand Tour: One For The Road

The cars featured couldn’t have been much better, either. The selection process – presented in-show as the trio wilfully ignoring Mr. Wilman’s instructions to drive laps of the M25 in electric cars – was simply each presenter choosing a car they’ve always wanted to own, and the resulting trio of mismatched, slightly tired ’70s classics exemplifies each’s personality and preferences in the same way as, say, those chosen for Top Gear’s Patagonia special, or indeed, its Botswana special – a show that plays an important role in this one.

I adored Top Gear growing up, and while The Grand Tour’s been generally strong, it’s always been a little more hit-and-miss for me. There was always that niggling worry that this episode would lean too heavily into the shouting and exploding that seems to have been the draw for a lot of fans in recent years.

The Grand Tour: One For The Road

It doesn’t, though. Where it is present, it's delivered with a wonderfully self-aware nod to the viewer’s ability to suspend their disbelief. Generally, though, the show feels like a love letter, or maybe a heartfelt thank you card, to the people who’ve been there from the very beginning.

I don’t want to sound like I’m gatekeeping – I enjoy a good explosion or scream of ‘CLAAAARKSOOOOON!’ as much as the next person. I’m glad, though, that this final goodbye felt more like one of the earlier specials, one that simply took you along for the ride as three mates drove through a spectacular country in some cars of dubious reliability.

The Grand Tour: One For The Road

Then, towards the end of the show, the trio crosses into Botswana, and things get properly emotional. I won’t spoil things too much, because if you’re reading this, you’ve either watched the show already or you’re going to.

But the callbacks to the original Botswana special – the one that set the tone for the big, feature-length adventures that would come to play such a defining role in the success of TG and TGT – are handled about as perfectly as they could be. If you’ve been watching these shows for as long as some of us, I defy you not to get a bit teary once the haunting opening synth of Dire Straits’ ‘Brothers In Arms’ kicks in (and could there really have been a better song for the moment?).

The Grand Tour: One For The Road

Everything about One For The Road felt like the entire team behind it firing on all cylinders, and acknowledging the gravity that the end of this working relationship has behind it.

When James May first joined Top Gear in May 2003, replacing the cheery but ultimately short-lived tenure of Jason Dawe, I’d not long turned four – I hadn’t even started school. In other words, for about as long as I can remember, I’ve had at least some form of new telly from these three to look forward to. Even when it was all a bit up in the air in 2015, I don’t think there was any doubt that they’d end up somewhere. Now, I’m 25, and all of a sudden, I don’t have that constant in my life anymore, and that’s a strange sensation that I imagine a lot of people are feeling right now.

The Grand Tour: One For The Road

There’s a bit towards the end of One For The Road, as the trio cross the border into Botswana, where May, reflecting on his career and clearly holding back some emotions, says “I hope we brought you a little bit of happiness.” Yes, you did – you, Jeremy, Richard and everyone else that’s worked on these brilliant shows. Thanks for everything, and thanks for ending it perfectly.
