Warner Bros. Discovery Merges Theme Park, Studio Tour and Retail Groups Into One Division

Warner Bros. Discovery is consolidating its Global Themed Entertainment licensing group - whose purview includes the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions at Universal's theme parks - and Studio Tours & Retail group under one umbrella.

The new division, dubbed Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, brings together the company's worldwide studio tours, retail destinations, touring exhibitions and all location-based experiences based on its franchises including Harry Potter, DC, Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Game of Thrones and Friends. The group "will be charged with strategically expanding the company's fan-facing experiences and pursuing new businesses," like those with Universal Destinations & Experiences and Warner Bros. Studio Tours in Hollywood, London and Tokyo, the company said.

Simon Robinson, COO of WBD Studios, will add leadership of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences to his responsibilities. He will report to WBD chief revenue and strategy officer Bruce Campbell for Experiences and will continue reporting into WBD CFO Gunnar Wiendenfels for his studio and content operations and financial roles.

A WBD rep said there are no layoffs or executive departures with the reorg. "This is very much about growth in the experiences space," the spokesperson said.

"WBD has an incredible mix of location-based experiences for fans around the world, from theme parks and tours to exhibits, retail and more," Campbell said in a statement. "Bringing these two teams together under one roof gives us an opportunity to leverage and coordinate the talent and resources across all of our experiential businesses to better delight our consumers through offering even more truly authentic and engaging in-person experiences and events in every market."

WBD Global Experiences is home to the locations of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal theme parks around the world, Warner Bros. Studio Tour locations in London, Hollywood, and Tokyo, the Harry Potter New York flagship store, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, The WB Abu Dhabi, The Friends Experience, The Game of Thrones Studio Tour and other experiences.

In 2025, NBCUniversal's Universal Resort Orlando plans to open a new attraction, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic," featuring rides, shops and other experiences spanning 1920s Paris and '90s-era London.

Fourth annual san diego coastal art studios tour returns on sept. 14.

Art lovers can’t stop talking about the event, which has artists in Pacific Beach and La Jolla opening up their homes, personal art studios and gardens for the public to enjoy.

“It is a joy to show our artwork, but even more, to create an event that celebrates the local vibe that is super friendly, casual and diverse,” said artist Dot Renshaw, who created the tour with Leah Higgins. Last year’s event drew over 1,500 attendees.

Set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, the free, self-guided tours will include meeting 30 professional artists throughout four gardens. This year’s tour features 13 new artists and two new gardens.

Three of the homes are in Pacific Beach and one is in La Jolla. Their addresses can be found at sandiegocoastalartstudios.com. They are within a few miles of each other. There is free street parking.

Neil and Carla Murray’s 1941 home in Pacific Beach is a new addition to the tour.

Neil Murray described it as a “very small and inexpensive house” on a large lot. After purchasing in 1994, the couple added a second-story art studio and a granny flat.

They have also done extensive landscaping, including adding a deck, water fountain, pathways and site-appropriate trees and scrubs.

“We love living in PB. The climate is pleasant, almost seductive with its cooling afternoon breeze and plenty of sunshine,” Murray said. “Given some water, just about anything grows here and we have filled our yard with plants, mostly xeriscape.”

The plants are more than just decoration, however, as Murray paints vivid contemporary close-ups of his lush plants.

Another Pacific Beach home belongs to Dot Renshaw. She and her husband, Zack Taylor, have opened their 1920s Moorish-style home to tour guests each year.

The home was renovated 30 years ago, going from one story to two, and features an 18-foot high art studio. The home overlooks a garden filled with fruit trees, flowers and huge staghorn ferns.

Renshaw paints coastal art in oils, plein air and pastels, and often chooses small trails, camping spots and neighborhood canons for her pieces.

The PB home Leah Higgins shares with her husband, Patrick Higgins, was built in 1926 by well-known architect Irving Gill. It is the first custom home of famed San Diego horticulturist Kate Sessions. Highlights of the two-acre property include a detached art studio, and numerous mature trees and plants from Sessions’ original garden.

Higgins specializes in homes, landscapes and portraiture for her artwork, but enjoys a wide variety of subjects.

The La Jolla home of artist Jane Fletcher was built in 1970. Her Techbuilt home, purchased in 1971, was remodeled in the late 1990s.

It includes Fletcher’s art studio, where she paints and works in wood and glass. Her custom-made front entry doors greet guests, and her hand-carved doors and glassworks are found in many area homes.

Her 400-square-foot entry doubles as a gallery to reach her 300-square-foot studio.

Showing artwork is by invitation only. Renshaw and Higgins said each participant is “an accomplished, award-winning artist.”

Hundreds of pieces of artwork of every medium will be available for purchase, with prices ranging from $10 to $5,000. There will be all types, including ceramics, jewelry, clothing, quilts, pottery, reclaimed wood carvings, glass sculpture, mosaics, cutting boards, baskets, steampunk polymer and more.

“We strive to have variety in both price and style,” Renshaw said.

Each year, the tour organizers pick a charity that receives 100 percent of all donations received from collection boxes at each tour stop.

This year’s beneficiary is ALS United Greater San Diego, which is helping to discover treatments and a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and serves those affected with ALS.

Un quartier proche de tout

Au sud de Tours, le quartier Beaujardin se situe à moins de 10 minutes de la Gare SCNF. Niché entre l’autoroute A10, l’avenue de Grammont et le Boulevard Richard Wagner qui longe la promenade du Cher, toute la vie se concentre autour de la place Beaujardin et de son petit square familial. A deux pas du centre commercial des Atlantes, sa localisation en fait un lieu de vie idéal pour les retraités et les jeunes familles. Même si les lignes de bus Citadine ne parcourent pas toutes ses rues, les habitants apprécient la présence des quelques arrêts de bus qui entourent le quartier et leur permettant de rejoindre le centre et la Cathédrale Saint Gatien en 20 minutes de transport en commun.

Un petit quartier familial

Beaujardin compte environ 4 000 habitants aux revenus plutôt modestes. L’immobilier y est encore d’ailleurs très accessible, loin de la flambée des zones plus huppées de Tours. Quartier résidentiel avec 30% de logement sociaux, le paysage de Beaujardin se compose majoritairement de petites maisons de ville à 2 étages comme dans l’harmonieuse rue George Renard. Côté vie de quartier, boulangerie, coiffeur, opticien et autres petits commerces pour la plupart situés autour de la place Beaujardin, facilitent grandement le quotidien de ses habitants. Bien-sûr, les familles apprécient aussi la proximité du centre commercial Les Atlantes. Il abrite 70 magasins dont beaucoup de grandes enseignes des secteurs de l’habillement, de la beauté, de la joaillerie ou de la maroquinerie.

Se mettre au vert à Beaujardin

À Beaujardin, il est possible de profiter de la verdure tout en étant en centre-ville. Tout d’abord, en venant prendre une douce pause sur la place Beaujardin, à l’ombre de ses grands arbres et arbustes de collection. Ancien parc du Château de Beaujardin vendu à la ville de Tours en 1925, cette placette est devenue le cœur et le poumon du quartier. C’est un lieu très apprécié où l’on croise absolument toutes les générations. Un peu plus à l’ouest en remontant vers le nord, rue d’Alger, on trouve un autre espace vert, le square d'Alger, le rendez-vous des amateurs de pétanque des quartiers alentours. Pour embellir leurs dimanches, les habitants de Beaujardin se délocalisent le temps d’une après-midi sur l’Île artificielle Honoré de Balzac. Posée au milieu du Cher, on la rejoint en moins de 20 minutes à pied depuis la rue Beaujardin. Elle offre un parc de 24 hectares avec une aire de jeux et une ménagerie, un skate-park et 2 terrains de basket et de foot !

A contrario du reste de la ville, joyau inscrit au Patrimoine de l’Unesco, à Beaujardin, il n’y pas de monuments historiques, juste de la verdure, de la tranquillité, des écoles et des commerces de proximité. Un régal tout en simplicité pour les habitants du quartier.

WBD Sets New Global Division for Experiences, Parks, Exhibitions and More in Restructuring

The new division will be charged with strategically expanding the company’s experiences

Bruce Campbell, chief revenue and strategy officer of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced Thursday a new global structure for the company’s worldwide studio tours, retail destinations, touring exhibitions and all location-based experiences. The change will bring together “the existing licensed entertainment and owned and operated teams into a single worldwide division,” according to the official release.

Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences will be charged with strategically expanding the company’s experiences and pursuing new businesses that capitalize on the company’s world-class intellectual property like those with Universal Destinations & Experiences, which handles the lucrative Wizarding World of Harry Potter rides, shows and attractions; and Miral, and its Warner Bros. Studio Tours in London, Hollywood and Tokyo.

“WBD has an incredible mix of location-based experiences for fans around the world, from theme parks and tours to exhibits, retail and more,” Campbell noted. “Bringing these two teams together under one roof gives us an opportunity to leverage and coordinate the talent and resources across all of our experiential businesses to better delight our consumers through offering even more truly authentic and engaging in-person experiences and events in every market.”

WBD Global Experiences combines the company’s existing Global Themed Entertainment licensing group and the Studio Tours & Retail owned and operated division into a new cohesive and unified division. The new team will develop and execute on global strategies that offer partners the right mix of both models, putting WBD in a position to drive growth and become a worldwide leader in the creation, development, licensing and operating of location-based entertainment inspired by franchises like Harry Potter, DC, Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, “Game of Thrones,” “Friends” and more.

Simon Robinson, chief operating officer of WBD Studios will add leadership of WBD Global Experiences to his responsibilities. He will report to Campbell for Experiences and will continue reporting into WBD’s chief financial officer Gunnar Wiendenfels for his studio and content operations and financial roles.

Robinson appointed two veteran leaders to his new Experiences organization who will report to him: Peter van Roden and Sarah Roots.

Van Roden serves as executive vice president of Global Themed Entertainment and will continue in his role leading the licensed location-based entertainment and theme park businesses. His team will continue to manage the partnership between WBD and Universal Destinations & Experiences with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter locations (he could be seen in last week’s announcement about Epic Universe’s Harry Potter experiences). He will also oversee the Miral relationship for Warner Bros. World Dubai and The WB Abu Dhabi, plus other licensed exhibitions.

Roots, executive vice president of Worldwide Studio Tours & Retail, will continue in her role leading WBD’s owned and operated experiences. This includes Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter outside of London, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood (which was recently revamped) and the Harry Potter flagship store in New York.

In announcing the Global Experiences leadership team, Robinson said in an official statement, “Peter and Sarah are experts in curating and executing global location-based experiences at the very highest caliber. Our teams have an obsession for detail that we bring to each project and together, we will be able to bring partners – and fans – even more of what they’ve come to expect from a Warner Bros. experience.”

The new division is called Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, and will encompass both owned and operated experiences like its studio tours or exhibitions, as well as licensed entertainment, like its deals with Universal Destinations and Miral (which are the home of Harry Potter in theme parks).

“WBD has an incredible mix of location-based experiences for fans around the world, from theme parks and tours to exhibits, retail and more,” said Campbell in a statement. “Bringing these two teams together under one roof gives us an opportunity to leverage and coordinate the talent and resources across all of our experiential businesses to better delight our consumers through offering even more truly authentic and engaging in-person experiences and events in every market.”

Weidenfels actually teed up the news Wednesday at a Bank of America conference, where he said that the experiences group is “about a half billion dollar revenue business.”

Live experiences are a burgeoning business for entertainment companies, led by Disney and Universal’s massive theme parks. However, companies like WBD have found their own way in, both through operated experiences like the Harry Potter exhibitions or studio tours, but also licensing, for IP like Harry Potter and DC Comics, which is controlled by Six Flags.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new global structure for the company’s worldwide studio tours, retail destinations, touring exhibitions, and all location-based experiences, bringing together the existing licensed entertainment and owned and operated teams into a single worldwide division called Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences.

Specifically, WBD Global Experiences combines the company’s existing global themed entertainment licensing group, and the Studio Tours & Retail owned and operated businesses into a new cohesive and unified division. The new team will develop and execute on global strategies that offer partners the right mix of both models, putting WBD in a position to drive growth worldwide in the creation, development, licensing and operating of location-based entertainment inspired by Harry Potter, DC, Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Game of Thrones, Friends, Discovery and more.

Robinson will report to Campbell for Experiences and will continue reporting into WBD’s CFO Gunnar Wiendenfels for his studio and content operations and financial roles.

He named two veteran to his new organization, who will report to him.

And Sarah Roots. EVP, Worldwide Studio Tours & Retail, will continue in her role leading WBD’s owned and operated experiences including the award-winning Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood and the Harry Potter flagship and other retail stores. 

“Peter and Sarah are experts in curating and executing global location-based experiences at the very highest caliber. Our teams have an obsession for detail that we bring to each project and together, we will be able to bring partners – and fans – even more of what they’ve come to expect from a Warner Bros. experience,” Robinson said.

When a tornado touches down, the destruction can be brutal. Trees are uprooted and trucks can be flung about like toys. Whole houses there one moment are piles of rubble the next.

The 2020 Nashville tornado was like this: deadly and devastating. One of the many losses that night included Gillian Welch and David Rawling 's East Nashville studio called Woodland. But when the dust settled and the sky cleared, Welch and Rawlings were still standing.

The pair, who have been making music together for decades, won the Grammy Award for best folk album in 2021 for the covers album they made together in the immediate aftermath, called All the Good Times (Are Past & Gone) . Their new album is their first of original songs in several years. It's named Woodland , named after their studio, and in this session, the duo talks about rebuilding, about writing songs during turbulent times, and they also tell maybe the best story we've ever heard about winning a Grammy.
