The Darkness Announce 20th Anniversary ‘Permission to Land’ Tour for 2023
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their hit album Permission to Land , The Darkness have just announced a headlining North American tour in October.
Released in 2003, The Darkness' debut album was a big commercial success, largely thanks to the smash single "I Believe In a Thing Called Love," which peaked at No. 35 on Billboard's US Mainstream Top 40 chart.
Fans can expect to see the band perform all 11 songs off Permission to Land , as well as additional cuts from their other six albums, the latest being 2021's Motorheart .
“When Permission to Land landed 20 short years ago, we were bathed in shock and awe," comments frontman Justin Hawkins , "As if by magic, rock wasn’t dead! Fun wasn’t banned! And Spandex was almost acceptable again…Well, guess what? Twenty years on, the same rules apply. So please to squeeze yourselves into those inappropriate leggings, back-comb your mullet, splash on a big handful of attitude, and come celebrate with us! We promise everything and we deliver, every time. Bring on the next twenty! The Darkness. The best. For you. Forever.”

Kicking off on October 3 in San Francisco, California, the tour will continue through major cities in the U.S. before wrapping up in Washington, D.C. on October 22.
Released on July 7, 2003, Permission to Land sold more than a million copies and went to No. 1 in the U.K. with the help of No. 2 single “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.”
“When ‘Permission to Land’ landed, 20 short years ago, we were bathed in shock and awe,” said singer Justin Hawkins in a statement. “As if by magic, rock wasn’t dead. Fun wasn’t banned. And spandex was almost acceptable again. Well, guess what? 20 years on, the same rules apply.”
Hawkins continued, “So please squeeze yourselves into those inappropriate leggings, back-comb your mullet, splash on a big handful of attitude, and come celebrate with us. We promise everything and we deliver, every time. Bring on the next 20!”
In addition to playing the entire 11 tracks of Permission to Land in full, the band will also play an extended “Best Of The Rest” set with more songs from their other six albums, including One Way Ticket To Hell…and Back, Hot Cakes, Last Of Our Kind, Pinewood Smile, Easter Is Cancelled, and their most recent 2021 release Motorheart .
“I wanted to make an album that was super uplifting, and I didn’t want to have any mood pieces in it,” Hawkins told American Songwriter of Motorheart in 2021. “There’s some self-discovery going on because there’s a lot of loneliness in it. Some of the lyrics may sound daft, but they’re actually about disappointing relationships and reflecting on why I’m sitting here on my own.”

The Darkness – 20th Anniversary Tour Of ‘Permission To Land’
‘permission to land’ 20th anniversary world tour – european dates revealed – more shows around the planet to be announced soon..
2023 finds Britain’s beloved rock band The Darkness celebrating 20 years since they birthed ‘Permission To Land’, the multi-platinum, chart-topping debut album which changed the face of rock music forever. To celebrate the landmark occasion, The Darkness will embark on a global tour later this year. Today the band are delighted to announce 13 European dates on the ‘Permission To Land 20’ tour, with many more jaw-dropping, show-stopping concerts around the world to be revealed shortly. Frontman Justin Hawkins comments,
“When Permission to Land landed, twenty short years ago, we were bathed in shock and awe. As if by magic, Rock wasn’t dead! Fun wasn’t banned! And Spandex was almost acceptable again… “Well, guess what? Twenty years on, the same rules apply. So please to squeeze yourselves into those inappropriate leggings, back-comb your mullet, splash on a big handful of attitude, and come celebrate with us! We promise everything and we deliver, every time. Bring on the next twenty! “The Darkness. The best. For you. Forever.”
Tickets for these European shows will be on sale from Friday 24th March here .
The shows promise to be a grand spectacle with the band playing the much-lauded, award-winning, foot-stomping, guitar-wailing, groove-making masterpiece in full. Kicking off with the splendid rifferama of ‘Black Shuck’ they’ll blast their way through all of Permission To Land ’s 11 tracks, including ‘Growing On Me’, ‘Love Is Only A Feeling’, ‘Giving Up’, ‘Love On The Rocks With No Ice’, ‘Get Your Hands Off My Woman’ and of course the iconic ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’. In addition to that splendid confection of rock brilliance, Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus will pump out a bonus ‘Best Of The Rest’ set, stuffed to the gills with all the hits and fan favourites from their six subsequent studio albums. It’s enough to make any right-thinking music fan go weak at the knees! There will also be a very special expanded Permission To Land deluxe album release coming later this year via Warner Music, with further details to be revealed soon.

Linkin Park returns with a new singer, new music and a world tour
The band revealed six initial gigs, kicking off in Los Angeles next week, in their first tour since the death of lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017.
Linkin Park is making a return with new co-vocalist Emily Armstrong after several years on hiatus, announcing a world tour and an upcoming album Thursday in a live-streamed performance that amped up their long-standing fan base around the world.
The rock-rap band revealed six initial gigs, kicking off in Los Angeles next week and finishing in Bogotá, Colombia in November, in their first tour since frontman Chester Bennington’s death . The album, poetically titled “From Zero” and set for release Nov. 15, will be the group’s first record since “One More Light” in 2017.
Linkin Park debuted Armstrong — who co-founded the rock group Dead Sara — as co-vocalist during their performance Thursday, which featured new track “The Emptiness Machine” as well as old favorites such as “Numb” and “In the End.” They also brought on a new drummer, Colin Brittain, also a producer and songwriter who has worked with artists including All Time Low and A Day to Remember.
One of the most prominent rock bands of the early 21st century, Linkin Park courted a loyal online fan base in its early days and skyrocketed to mainstream success with its first album, “Hybrid Theory.” Known for its blend of rap, rock and early-aughts angst, Linkin Park won the hearts of headbanging teens — now nostalgia-seeking adults — around the world.
In an interview with Billboard, founding member and co-lead vocalist Mike Shinoda said that in the years after Bennington’s death, the group would get together occasionally and play “but there wasn’t any creative momentum.”
While the band met Armstrong around 2019 and did some sessions with her over the years, they didn’t call their work together by the name Linkin Park until the songs started coming together and it became clear that calling it “anything else would be strange and misleading,” Shinoda said.
Armstrong, who is from Los Angeles, told the Salt Lake Tribune in 2012 that she knew wanted to be in a rock band since she was a kid — and subsisted for years on bean burritos from Taco Bell as she built her career.
In the Billboard interview, she described herself as an early fan of Linkin Park and said that when she joined, she wrestled with: “How do I be myself in this, but also carry on the emotion and what [Bennington] brought in this band?”
Shinoda did not frame Armstrong as a replacement for Bennington on Thursday’s live stream. “In the role of Chester Bennington this afternoon is each of you,” he said instead, addressing the crowd. “Are you ready to sing with us?”

Justin Hawkins shares, “You there, in the Americas – hear me, and hear me well: The Darkness know your pain, know that you have cried yourselves to sleep every night, bereft of quality English rock music. Well, desist from weeping and pull up your fully grown adult pants – salvation is upon you! As doctors, we UNDERSTAND the healing power of rock music and we have instructed our minions to make arrangements for us to visit your moderately distant shores. The cryogenically sealed Tupperware box of roadies has been set to “Thor” and the mighty winged chariot has been dusted off. Remember – one lick of Darkness sweat and you will be cured – you will literally walk again, without Covid or anything! But what price freedom and eternal life, I hear you ask? To you sir, about thirty bucks (plus local taxes and booking fee). Now get the fuck in!”
