GRASSROOTS CONCERTS are held at the LIVE WELL NIGHTCLUB AND COFFEE BAR at the Journey Church, 5459 Lakers Lane, Nisswa, MN .

Admission is $15 at the door for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention, when accompanied by an a adult. At all shows, seating is first-come, first-served. Show-time is 7:30 PM (doors open at 6:30), and you are encouraged to come early to claim your choice of seats. 

At each concert, decidedly the best family entertainment in the Brainerd Lakes area, GRASSROOTS welcomes your nonperishable food (or cash) donation to a local food shelf. 

"Grassroots Concerts are the nonprofit cultural offerings of a small, happy society of largely omnivorous but gentle folk dedicated to the preservation of live entertainment in vicarious times."

In Focus: Lakes Area Artists Showcase Their Work in Nisswa

Five professional artists from central Minnesota exhibited their artwork on Friday, which was made available for purchase during their show at the Journey Church in Nisswa.

Local artists put together a show every 4th of July weekend at the Journey Church in downtown Nisswa. This gives artists a chance to have their work seen by the many tourists coming in from the Twin Cities.

Usually these events consist of crafts, but this show is made up of only fine art, which makes them different from others.

The event is tailored for small groups of 10 or less. This helps unify the group and keep everyone well informed with each other. Throughout the day, there is also artwork from diverse media like hand-blown glass, pottery, and photography.

One featured artist was photographer David Barthel, who specializes in large-scale landscape works of Minnesota’s North Shore.

With the help of Journey church displaying pottery, jewelry, rocks, and stained glass, these local artists also take some of their proceeds and make it a point to give back.

Nisswa Minnesota Community Guide

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,971 people, 876 households, and 607 families residing in the city. The population density was 182.8 inhabitants per square mile (70.6/km2). There were 1,474 housing units at an average density of 136.7 per square mile (52.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.4% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.6% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.

There were 876 households of which 22.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 30.7% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.69.

The median age in the city was 50.6 years. 18.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 17.2% were from 25 to 44; 34.7% were from 45 to 64; and 24.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.6% male and 50.4% female.
