I was so dissatisfied with my experience at Trek today I downloaded Yelp to write a review. The clerk (not bike knowledge god like they think they are) snatched 2 different objects out of my hands while I was holding them either reading the box or comparing colours with other products and took them up to the till. Presumably this has something to do with Covid precautions, which makes little sense as I had already touched the items with my hands. He is wearing the same rubber gloves he used with the last customer, has no face mask and was ok hovering right next to me while I looked at the shelf. If a customer not handling products is the procedure, post it on the wall and greet them with it or explain that. Do NOT snatch items out of your customer's hands, then walk to the till with it assuming that I am going to buy it. Covid is not an excuse for having zero interpersonal communication abilities and grossly high pressure sales tactics. A message to the staff at Trek: you never know who you're talking to, and being condescending toward a more highly qualified mechanic and cyclist than yourself is not a good way to earn repeat business. Remember that you work in retail sales and are no more special than a sandwich artist. Also remember that grabbing things out of people's hands is rude and shamed upon even for toddlers. I will not be returning to buy even a valve core from these nimrods, and I am going to make it my mission to spread this experience with my family and friends in the local bike and dirt bike community.
for a long time it is impossible to pick up the paid bike. where is my order and when will none of the sellers say they can not even care
The staff here are so helpful and informative. I called in prior to going in to check to see if they were open amidst the Covid-19 business closures and they were open and were taking in customers one at a time. They were super safe and offered gloves and sanitizer upon entry. Tysen helped me pick out a new bike and was so helpful from the beginning to the end. He also took his time and was so patient with me even though there was a huge line outside. He didn't hurry me at all and I felt so comfortable the whole time. He also really knew his stuff! I am super happy with my experience here. Thank you, Tysen!
Went to the store to buy some cycling gloves that where advertised on its website on sale. The salesman told we they weren't on sale, but rather wanted me to pay full price. Left store and phoned store manager and confirmed they were indeed on sale. Went back to store and made that purchase. Excellant service from manager, even though a second trip was made. Why does the salespeople not know the current price of any items? Perhaps equip they with tablets, so they can check prices rather than "debate" with a customer. Staff should know current prices.

North Vancouver has the Grouse Grind.
Coquitlam has the Crunch.
Now, the City of Port Coquitlam is out with the PoCo Climb , of which the first phase of the 6.5-km loop hike officially opened today, July 10.
Mayor Brad West, Coun. Nancy McCurrach and former city councillor Mike Forrest, a Freedom of the City recipient, were the first three up the hill after council unveiled the name and cut a ribbon at the base of the 150 timber-crib stairs on Shaughnessy Street.
West told the crowd gathered that the municipality fielded more than 1,600 suggestions from the public about the new trail name in the Mary Hill neighbourhood — some of which were funny; others he had to scratch his head about their proposed moniker.
West singled out city staff, including Joshua Frederick, PoCo’s director of engineering and public works; parks supervisor Mike Por; and parks manager Mitchell Guest, for designing and building the PoCo Climb .
And he noted the support from Ride BC as well as PoCo Building Supplies, which supplied the materials for the stairs.

Frederick told the Tri-City News that work on the second phase of the PoCo Climb will start in the next month and wrap up by the fall. It will include a rock scramble like the one at Breakneck Ridge in New York, one of the most popular hikes in the Hudson Valley, to challenge hikers.
As well, he said, the city is in negotiations with School District 43 to formalize a trail around the Hazel Trembath Elementary and Citadel Middle campuses for the PoCo Climb .
And a crosswalk on Shaughnessy will be installed with flashing beacons (parking will be near the trailheads along Shaughnessy; by Skyline, Castle and Settlers parks; and on Argue Street).
“Once the loop is done it’s going to create a lot of attention,” Frederick said. “We expect people will come out and enjoy the many aspects of the trail for recreation and birdwatching, among other things.”
Frederick said the first phase of the $400,000 PoCo Climb came in under budget and on time.
The route largely follows existing routes:
- passing through ƛ̓éxətəm (tla-hut-um) Regional Park, formerly known as Colony Farm Regional Park, on the eastern side of the Coquitlam River
- crossing Shaughnessy Street to a new set of timber-crib stairs — a 30 m elevation gain over 150 m
- climbing up to Skyline Park on Eastern Drive, where there’s an off-leash dog park
- circling Hazel Trembath Elementary and Citadel Middle
- following Citadel Drive to Castle Crescent and Castle Park
- walking over the Mary Hill Bypass pedestrian crossing to Argue Street
- connecting with the Traboulay PoCo Trail back to ƛ̓éxətəm, crossing at the bypass and Shaughnessy Street

‘A Field of Dreams moment’: Construction underway on new PoCo trail
Port Coquitlam residents should start stretching out their hamstrings and quads.
Construction on a new trail connecting ƛ̓éxətəm (tla-hut-um) Regional Park to the Citadel Heights neighbourhood is underway.
The unnamed hike, which is expected to resemble the Coquitlam Crunch, will include more than 300 stairs and be roughly 6.5 kilometres long. It will also feature 70 metres of elevation gain between Shaughnessy Street and Eastern Drive and be accessible from the Traboulay Trail.
Local news that matters to you
No one covers the Tri-Cities like we do. But we need your help to keep our community journalism sustainable.
“This new trek will, without a doubt, become one of our community’s most popular spots, providing a backcountry experience right in the heart of Port Coquitlam,” Mayor Brad West stated in a release.
At a council meeting last December, Port Coquitlam approved $73 million in its capital program budget for local rehabilitation and recreation projects. Forty million of that budget is slated to go towards finishing upgrades at Leigh Square, a new soccer hub at Gates Park and the unnamed trail, among other initiatives.
The funding comes from a combination of the city’s reserve funds, revenue and grants.
At the time, West said the trail would be a hit for residents that are familiar with the Coquitlam Crunch.
“The City of Coquitlam has provided a very popular amenity through the Coquitlam Crunch,” he said at the Dec. 5 meeting. “Having something akin to that, though not exactly the same, in Port Coquitlam is going to be really well received.”
Jenn Geneve, a Port Moody woman who is an admin on the Coquitlam Crunch Facebook page, has completed the Crunch roughly 1,000 times between 2020 and 2023. She applauded the city’s decision to build a Crunch-like trail in Port Coquitlam.
“I smiled,” Geneve said when she heard the city was building the trail. “I’m not surprised they would do a thing that fosters community.”
There are many physical and mental benefits to the Crunch, Geneve added, namely the toll it takes on bodies and sense of accomplishment after completing a steep hike.
She encourages residents to start a social media page for the trail — comparing times and posting photos after a hard hike — to grow its popularity in the first few months. Ultimately, though, she expects the trail to be a hit with all Tri-Cities residents.
“I think it’s a Field of Dreams moment,” Geneve said. “If you build it, they will come. There’s no way people aren’t going to use it.”
Less than one percent of the existing vegetation will be impacted by construction on the hike, according to the city.
A new access point will be installed to connect the trail to ƛ̓éxətəm Regional Park, and improvements are going to be made to an existing pedestrian crossing at Eastern Drive to Skyline Park.
Although Port Coquitlam is currently installing roughly 210 steps between Shaughnessy Street and Eastern Drive, the hike is still unnamed.
The city is encouraging residents to submit name ideas online by Apr. 7 .
A name is slated to be announced when the hike is officially opened to the public in the late spring.
