Summit One Vanderbilt’s Observation Deck

Summit One Vanderbilt Observation deck is the latest attraction to come up in New York City. 

It is a classic example of the synthesis of art, technology, creativity, and entertainment.

The immersive observation deck is spread over floors 91, 92 and 93 of the One Vanderbilt building at 45 E 42nd St., just above Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.

The 91st and 92nd floors are completely enclosed in glass, while the 93rd floor has an outdoor observation deck.

The Observation deck is at a height of 1,210 feet (368 meters), while the One Vanderbilt skyscraper itself is 1,401 feet (427 meters) tall.

The elevators, an immersive exhibit featuring flashing lights, launch you to the top in just 42 seconds.

The best time to visit the Summit One Vanderbilt observatory is early morning or one hour before sunset.

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

One Vanderbilt is located across from Grand Central. SUMMIT One Vanderbilt’s observation deck covers three floors of the impressive skyscraper. From here, you can enjoy a unique view of the nearby landmarks such as the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Bryant Park and Times Square.

In addition to the beautiful views, the observation deck features ‘Air’, an art experience that visitors can walk through. There is also an indoor café with a fireplace and an outdoor terrace with a bar. Get your Summit One Vanderbilt tickets in advance to secure your preferred time slot.

Special features inside Summit

Summit is not your ordinary observation deck. It also offers four experiences created by Kenzo Digital that stimulate your senses. All in all, a visit to Summit will immerse you in the best views of New York in several ways.

Transcendence

Upon entering, you will enter the ‘Transcendence’: a space with high ceilings filled with mirrors to create a surreal experience and where you can take the most impressive Instagram photos. Above this room, you can walk over the balustrade and look into the large round mirrors. It is strongly recommended not to wear skirts or dresses when going to the Summit, as the floor and ceiling are made out of mirrors.

As you walk through, you’ll enter ‘Affinity,’ where hundreds of silver balloons float around. It’s the perfect place for a special selfie, and the space offers views over Central Park and Uptown Manhattan.

In addition, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt has two glass-floored overhangs called ‘Levitation’. If you’re not afraid of heights, you can step into the overhangs for some great views of Madison Avenue.

‘Ascent’, two glass lifts positioned outside the building, bring you to the top of the One Vanderbilt building. Once the lifts have reached the top, they will stay there for a few minutes so that you can enjoy the beautiful view. Please note that the elevator experience is an extra attraction, so you will need separate tickets for it. However, all the other exhibitions mentioned above are included in your Summit One Vanderbilt tickets.

Summit during the day and in the evening

You can visit the observation deck during the day and evening; both offer different experiences. During the day, you have a good view over Central Park, and the observation deck is perfectly lit for all your Instagram photos. The sunlight is very bright due to the many mirrors. I recommend bringing sunglasses. When purchasing your tickets for Summit, you must select a specific time slot for your visit.

In the evening, the art experience ‘Air’ is even more intense than during the day. The different colours become visible and come to life through the sounds played, adding value to the observation deck and the views over the city.

Outdoor Experience

The observation deck also has an outdoor area which offers views of the Empire State Building and Times Square. On the outside terrace, you can have a drink at the bar, and you will also find access to ‘Ascent, ‘ which is the glass lift on the outside of the building.

For the most extreme travellers, our shooting tour will deliver your daily dose of adrenaline whereas our tank excursion will let you ride a real tank and shoot a bazooka.
