New Orleans is home to a variety of hotels, but for traveler-approved amenities and a superb location, hang your hat at the Loews New Orleans Hotel . This property sits in the New Orleans Art District and houses an indoor pool, a restaurant and a fitness center. Another option is the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel with diverse culinary options, spacious rooms and close proximity to many of New Orleans' top attractions .

The 30 Best Places for Your Next Girls' Trip, Both Inside and Outside the U.S.

Pack your bags and your best friends.

best places for a girls trip

Any vacation is a great vacation—whether it's a family beach trip , a romantic weekend getaway , or a solo adventure . But nothing quite compares to a good girls' trip with your best friends.

Figuring out where to go for a girls' trip, though, can be tricky, especially if you have to manage different vacation styles, personalities, and schedules—which is exactly why we compiled a list of the best destinations for your next girls' getaway. Some of the spots are great for a 2- or 3-day weekend (think: Nashville and Austin), while others benefit from a slightly longer stay, such as Portugal or Puerto Rico. Some are ideal for girls who want to go on trip in the U.S. (we recommend taking a road trip from Miami to Key West), while others are perfect for those who are hankering to go abroad, like Dublin and Barcelona). And some destinations provide lots of opportunities for fun in the sun (such as an all-inclusive stay in Jamaica), while others—like Newport, Rhode Island or Palm Springs—offer the ultimate digital detox. Not to mention that we've even included a few girls' trip ideas that would double as a good mother-daughter weekend getaway, like Sonoma or Savannah.

No matter what you choose, keep in mind that amid the coronavirus pandemic, your girls' vacation will probably look a bit different, depending on factors like your vaccination status and where you're headed. So make sure to check what rules are in place at your destination (either through the state health departments or the U.S. Embassies and Consulates ) and follow CDC guidance for how to best protect yourself and others while traveling domestically or internationally .

Ahead, we've rounded up the best girls' trip ideas—from beach vacations perfect for birthday trips to remote places that are all about R&R—and included suggestions for the most fun activities at each destination. Now, all you have to do is pack.

Savannah, Georgia

This coastal Southern charmer (cobblestone streets! Spanish moss!) is perfect for any girls trip where the key word is unwind. Stay at the Perry Lane Hotel that offers contemporary luxury with loads of Instagram-ready areas, including a chic rooftop pool and bar (you can also visit Peregrin for its tasty cocktails and city views even if you're not staying at the property). In the morning, grab a complementary glass of champagne and some of the hotel's bicycles, and head over to nearby Chippewa Square, where Forrest Gump's iconic bench scenes were filmed. (The hotel offers free car service though, if that's more your speed.) Then, make your way over to The Olde Pinke House for brunch and a photo opportunity. (Don't skip the fried green tomatoes!). End the eve with dinner at Cotton & Rye , followed by a nightcap back at Wayward , plus a friendly game of skee-ball at the eclectic bar.

(Don't miss the risotto balls at Quanto Basta , the nautical vibe at Seabird , or the live tunes and tacos at Satellite Bar ). There are also multiple beaches to while away the afternoon. Fans of soapy TV shows like Dawson's Creek , One Tree Hill , and Hart of Dixie will especially delight in seeing the filming locations in person, but you need not have watched any of those series to appreciate the city's magnetism. Art aficionados will adore the Cameron Art Museum which will unveil a new sculpture exhibit this November. Stay at the riverfront Embassy Suites for easy access to Cloud 9 rooftop bar where pink sunsets are practically guaranteed. It's also close to the newly opened amphitheater if you're taking in a concert. Or, try Dreamers Welcome for a more boutique-y feel.

Newport, Rhode Island

castle hill lighthouse in newport, rhode island

You can't go to Newport without grabbing some local cuisine at the The Newport Lobster Shack . After lunch at a waterfront picnic table, walk off those lobster rolls with a leisurely stroll on the famed Cliff Walk . The trail is 3.5 miles of beautiful ocean views. Then, explore the historic mansions while pretending you all live there together.

The worst-kept secret in this town is that Walt Disney World is actually a lot of fun without your kids. Of course there's EPCOT where you can drink (and snack) around the world while you're waiting to ride the latest attraction, Remy's Ratatouille . And staying for the brand new light show, in honor of Disney's 50th anniversary, is a spectacular must. Then, Disney Springs is basically The Mouse’s answer to the Vegas Strip: there are over fifty retail stores, foodie-focused restaurants and bars, and live entertainment. Stay at the Hilton Orlando which offers a rare amenity: an adults-only pool and relaxing cabanas. It also has a lazy river and a slide for the kids at heart, plus a shop to sate all of your needs 24 hours a day, and a staff so friendly you'll feel like you're in the Magic Kingdom even if you're just at the breakfast buffet. (Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you must have valid admission and make a park reservation via the Disney Park Pass system; for more information, visit the Disney World website .)

Key West, Florida

tree, tropics, sky, nature, palm tree, beach, caribbean, sea, vegetation, ocean,

Admire the beaches of Key West by taking a sunset champagne cruise . The islands are also a famous spot for snorkeling . Are your pals thrill-seekers? Take in a ghost or haunted pub crawl tour —you'll see the city in a whole new light. Stay at the luxurious Sunset Key Cottages and wake up to a gorgeous view of the beach.

Charlottesville, Virginia

scenic view of lake by trees and houses against sky

A small town that punches well above its weight when it comes to food and drink, this Central Virginia charmer is conveniently located close to many Southern cities. The surrounding area, known for its picturesque horse pastures, is also home to the Monticello Wine Trail , which boasts an impressive 33 vineyards. One of the most beloved is Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard , which serves delicious farm-to-table fare alongside lush varietals like sparkling rosé and their signature red, Easton Blue. Stay at charming 20-room The Clifton , located on a sprawling 100 acres.

Killington, Vermont

reflection, nature, sky, natural landscape, leaf, water, wilderness, lake, tree, atmospheric phenomenon,

There’s never really a bad time to visit Vermont: stunning foliage in the fall, beautiful hiking in the summer, and, of course, some of the best skiing on the East Coast once the temperatures plummet. Killington may be the best mountain of them all , featuring world-class slopes, of course, but for the less coordinated, there’s also ski bikes, tubing, and even Snowcat-drawn sleigh rides. If you're looking for a major (yet worthwhile) splurge, repair your aching limbs with a night at Twin Farms , a cozy inn with a seasonally changing restaurant. Or, stay at any number of nearby B&Bs.

Las Vegas, Nevada

las vegas skyline at night

No girls trip list is complete without including Sin City. But for those who haven’t visited since their bachelorette days, much has changed. Top-tier talent like Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Carrie Underwood are rumored to have residencies in the works at the at Resorts World Las Vegas and food has evolved from sticky all-you-can-eat buffets to celebrity seafood favorite CATCH Las Vegas at ARIA Resort & Casino , and the stunning, 64-story-high Rivea by Alain Ducasse at Delano Las Vegas . Book a stay at the sleek Cosmopolitan , which has super chic rooms and private spa suites for groups at its Sahra Spa & Hammam .

Austin, Texas

capitol building, aerial skyline, sunset, austin, tx, texas state capital

Two words: breakfast tacos . Of course, the crowds don’t flock to Austin just for the food: excellent live music, Insta-worthy hotels, and the gorgeous landscape make it a pretty perfect vacation destination. Snag rooms at Hotel San Jose , an oasis with garden courtyards and a pool hidden in the middle of trendy South Congress. At night, be sure to check out the Rainey Street Historic District , a residential-turned-commercial row where bungalow homes were turned into lively bars. Recover the next day by booking services at Lake Austin Spa Resort —they can even provide water taxi service to their gorgeous Texas Hill Country grounds.

And while definitely not in Austin, if you're up for a road trip to a place where you can experience the best of Hill Country, the Inn at Dos Brisas offers opulent casitas or hacienda, where you and your pals can unwind with wine by the fire. While it's certainly a splurge, it's a unique spot for a special occasion, like a birthday trip.

Hawaii Island, Hawaii

sky, tree, daytime, architecture, cloud, flag, landscape, plant, soil, photography,

It’s hard to imagine natural beauty that could rival that of the Big Island : site-seeing includes everything from the world’s most active volcano, gargantuan waterfalls, black and green sand beaches, and even helicopter tours of the impossibly green valleys. Of course, group hikes call for spa sessions, which the Hualalai Spa and Sports Club located at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is perfect for. Outdoor treatment rooms, reflexology walking streams, and Hawaiian-inspired treatments make the experience unforgettable. Don’t miss the “boga” classes: that’s yoga conducted on floating mats, of course.

Miami, Florida

swimming pool, property, resort, real estate, vacation, building, leisure, home, house, tree,

It’s hard to think of another American city that’s as fun as this Florida playground. For a one-stop shop, stay at buzzy hotel The Confidante Miami Beach . Situated around 20 blocks north of the hustle and bustle of Ocean Drive, this quieter oasis is perfect if you and your girls take your R&R quite seriously. One of its two pools is dedicated exclusively to families, meaning you can sneak away to the other if children are splashing around a bit too much. And in addition to colorful popsicles courtesy of Cielito Artisan Pops , there's also a Hello Bello amenity cart packed with plant-based poolside essentials like SPF, bug spray, and body lotion. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at Rosie's before heading to the beach or checking out the Instagram-worthy murals at Wynwood Walls . Or, try the more urban Thēsis Hotel Miami , which has a sunny rooftop pool with stellar views, and, perhaps more importantly, a poolside bar.

Nashville, Tennessee

broadway in downtown nashville, tennessee

There’s a reason why you see a bachelorette party nearly every 50 feet in Music City: Southern hospitality mixes with unbelievable live music and a bustling bar scene to create a perfect storm of happiness. Stay at the Bobby Hotel , just minutes from the famed Printer’s Alley clubs and bars of downtown. If the rowdy bustle of Broadway isn't for you, unwind at the property's rooftop pool, complete with an airstream ripe for the 'gram or enjoy a cocktail at the stunning lobby bar below. Then, recover the next morning with a traditional (and rib-sticking) meal at Arnold’s Country Kitchen to sample the city’s famed meat-and-three plate. For dinner, don't skip the mac and cheese at Mockingbird . And, of course, grab loads of ooey-gooey Goo Goo Clusters as souvenirs.

New Orleans, Louisiana

french quarter, typical house

It's always the perfect time to visit The Big Easy . And, as the city that proudly claims to have invented the cocktail, the bar scene here is second to none. Make a beeline for The Sazerac Restaurant to sample the namesake cocktail, of course, but don’t skimp on the Ramos Gin Fizzes either; they require a solid 12 minutes of shaking. No trip here is complete without dinner at New Orleans grande dame Brennan’s , famed for inventing the flashy (and incredibly delicious) flaming bananas foster. Boutique Henry Howard Hotel offers the perfect respite from the crowds, as does the NOPSI Hotel 's soothing rooftop. Or, you can't go wrong with the centrally-located and ever-glam Ritz-Carlton .

Palm Springs, California

golf course in palm springs, california

Coachella and other music festivals may have put this spot on the map, but this scenic area in Southern California is pretty heavenly year-round (and, with 350 days of sunshine, it’s especially enticing during blustery winter months). Architecture buffs will love Villa Royale , a boutique hotel with Mission Revival and Mid-Century Modern touches all over. Workshop Kitchen + Bar is perfect for group dinners, with its farm-to-table small plates like fried cauliflower steak and wood-fired pizzas. End the night at its sister bar Truss & Twine , whose menu includes a whole selection of tasty tiki drinks.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

recinto sur street colourful buildings

While parts of this Caribbean island are still recovering from Hurricane Maria, the bustling capital of San Juan is back in business (and eager for tourists to return). Beach-loving pals should book a room at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort , which offers beginning surfing, stand-up paddling, and zip-lining. While exploring old San Juan, make sure to stop in at El Jibarito for excellent renditions of classic Puerto Rican dishes like mofongo with camarones al ajillo (that’s mashed plantains with shrimp in garlic sauce). Finish the night at La Factoria , a speakeasy that’s been voted one of the top 50 bars in the world. (Note: Travel to and from Puerto Rico is currently permitted as long as as visitors comply with all necessary health and safety requirements; for more information, visit discoverpuertorico.com .)

Lisbon, Portugal

urban area, metropolitan area, city, cityscape, sky, town, human settlement, residential area, neighbourhood, daytime,

Just like San Francisco, Lisbon, Portugal is famous for its historic tram lines. Built more than 2,000 years ago, St. George's Castle is one of the most visible landmarks of Lisbon's historic center. From it, you can see the Tagus river and the city from a whole different perspective. Take in the nightlife in the city's famous Bairro Alton district. Go down to the beachfront Cascias , about 30 minutes away from Lisbon, and enjoy some fresh seafood. (Note: While Portugal is currently closed to American tourists, it is expected to reopen this summer ; for the most up-to-date information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Portugal .)

Amsterdam, Netherlands

canal waterway building town city mixed use property human settlement water metropolitan area

While you can't go wrong with a number of Amsterdam's historic hotels, consider renting a houseboat instead and then spend a weekend exploring the canals, eating pastries and taking in attractions like the Van Gogh Museum , which houses the largest collection of his work in the world. (Note: U.S. Citizens are not currently permitted to enter the Netherlands; for reopening updates, check with the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in the Netherlands .)

Florence, Italy

dome, holy places, landmark, roof, sky, building, architecture, dome, town, historic site,

If you and your friends are fans of pasta, gelato (and who isn't?), shopping (check out the Basilica di San Lorenzo !) and history, then this is a top destination. Take a bus or walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo to see the entire city center of Florence from a whole different view. This plaza provides a spectacular look at the Duomo . (Note: While Italy is currently closed to American tourists, it is expected to reopen this summer ; for the most up-to-date information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Italy .)

Marrakesh, Morocco

sky, town, urban area, city, landmark, human settlement, hill, tree, metropolitan area, tourism,

Okay, so it's likely a longer flight than most of these destinations, and definitely a splurge but certainly a memorable experience. Take in the landscapes at the Jardin Majorelle and then make your way to the YSL museum to learn all about the creator of the fashion brand and his ties to Morocco. Want to feel like a true celebrity? Grab a drink at the famous La Mamounia Hotel and snap a picture in any one of their Insta-famous mosaic-tile rooms. (Note: American tourists are allowed to enter Morocco as long as they meet certain requirements, like confirmed hotel or travel agency reservations and a negative PCR COVID-19 test; for more information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Morocco .)

Moosehead Lake, Maine

Tamara Gruber and Kim Tate sitting at the top of Little Mt Kineo in Maine

Living in New England, Maine has become my go-to girls’ weekend getaway destination, especially for my friends that love the outdoors and adventure as much as I do! My friend Kim and I have spent a girl’s trip relaxing at a cabin in Moosehead Lake on our Maine girls’ trip. Our days were filled with hiking, moose safaris, naps, and laughter while our evenings were spent reading, talking, cooking, and drinking wine together. This is my top pick for a nature-focused girls’ weekend on the East Coast.

Where to Stay: There are many cabin rentals available, which are perfect for a girls’ trip!

Glacier Country, Montana

2 women with 2 llamas on llama trek

Those of you nature lovers on the West Coast will love exploring Glacier Country, Montana together! This region just outside of Glacier National Park offers outdoor adventure combined with cute towns, local breweries and distilleries, and one-of-a-kind adventures. My friend Keryn and I loved our Montana girlfriend getaway and we had the best time reconnecting with each other and enjoying nature.

From the epic views of Glacier National Park to the lesser-trod gems like the Kootenai Falls and Suspension Bridge or Ross Creek Cedars, you won’t run out of room or fun ways to get outdoors. A highlight of our trip was getting to try llama trekking and I’m convinced this is the best way to hike!

Where to stay: For a short stay, fly in and out of Missoula and stay at the Residence Inn Missoula downtown where you can walk to cute boutiques, restaurants, day spas, and cocktail bars. For a small-town setting, book a cabin at Bridge Street Cottages in Big Fork, Montana.

Franklin, Tennessee

Three women holding wine at a picnic table in a vineyard taking a selfie with a phone

Just a half-hour south of Nashville lies the cutest little downtown with a great American Main Street that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a reason the town of Franklin has appeared in so many Hallmark movies! In downtown Franklin, you will find unique shops, restaurants, antique stores, entertainment, and the arts. It is also a great spot to explore Civil War history or take some tasting tours at local distilleries on a day trip along the Masters & Makers Trail.

If you want to stay active, try paddle boarding on the Harpeth River, bike out to Leiper’s Fork, or challenge yourself at the SOAR Adventure Park.  Nearby you can also explore sections of the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444-mile “All American” national scenic byway, which follows the course of the ancient trace traveled for centuries by tradesmen and Native Americans from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee.

Where to stay: The Harpeth Franklin Downtown , a Curio Collection by Hilton property, which is just steps away from Main Street.

El Paso, Texas

Kim and Tamara in a field in El Paso TX

El Paso, Texas is one of those unexpected spots for a girls’ getaway. I visited with my friend Kim a few years ago and it was great because she was coming from the West Coast and I was from the East Coast, so we got to meet somewhat in the middle and experience something new. It was a fun mix of adventure, eating, drinking, and shopping in the American Southwest.

You can’t miss browsing at some of the boot factory outlets around town. We even had a chance to watch some of the master bookmakers in action at the Lucchese factory before I snagged a new pair of snazzy boots.

We also explored downtown and had fun with our Instagram poses in front of the many murals. I developed a fondness for all things green chili, while we slugged down margaritas the size of our heads and steaks the size of a platter. Don’t worry, we worked some of it off hiking in Franklin Mountain State Park and off-roading at Red Sands, where I learned I’m terrible at driving an ATV. To chill out, we popped into nearby New Mexico for some wine tasting at local wineries.

Where to stay : Hotel Indigo was perfect for a girl’s trip with a rooftop pool and bar and lots of local flair.

Buffalo, New York

Cheryl in front of Be Happy mural in Buffalo

If you love a destination with a great urban transformation story, it is time to check out Buffalo, New York . In recent years, Buffalo has redeveloped its waterfront and revitalized neighborhoods with over $1 billion in new investment. History lovers can explore the robust history of this region, from its original Senecan inhabitants to its time as the Gateway to the West on the Eerie Canal, to its critical role in the Underground Railroad. Once home to many wealthy industrialists, the city has a number of Frank Lloyd Wright homes and restored architecture.

What may really surprise you is the city’s rising prominence as a foodie destination. Famous for the spicy wings first introduced at the Anchor Bar, my friend Cheryl and I enjoyed trying some of the other “ must eat” foods in Buffalo, from sponge candy to beef on weck sandwiches.

Where to stay: The Buffalo Marriott at Lecom Harborcenter made a great spot for a girls’ trip because it was walkable to the waterfront attractions.

Oceanside, California

Kim and Tamara in front of Artist Alley mural

If you are looking for a SoCal beach getaway, skip the tourist spots and head to Oceanside. Located between LA and San Diego, you can even access Oceanside on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train for a car-free trip. This beach town has a laid-back vibe with gorgeous beaches, a historic wooden pier, a quaint New England-style harbor, and charming bungalow neighborhoods.

You can explore surf culture at the California Surf Museum, or take a surf lesson and catch some waves yourselves. O’side (as locals affectionately call it), is a perfect spot for outdoor adventures from paddle boarding and biking to bucket list activities like sky diving and helicopter tours. Movie fans will also get a kick out of seeing the Top Gun house!

When my friend Kim and I visited, my highlights were seeing a dolphin stampede from a megapod of over 1,000 dolphins while on a whale watching cruise and eating our way through the Thursday night Sunset Market.

Where to stay: Mission Pacific Hotel has a rooftop pool and a fun bohemian style, and ocean views, and is a fun alternative located in the heart of downtown is The Fin Hotel , part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. This 26-room boutique hotel is in a historic building with many of the original architectural and design details, but modernized rooms.

Maine Windjammer Cruise

Schooner Heritage in the water

This past summer, my friend Michelle and I had a unique adventure on the Schooner Heritage , a Maine Windjammer that cruises out of Rockland, Maine. We made friends with fellow passengers, helped the crew raise and lower the sails, and enjoyed the scenic views of the Maine coast — topped off with an authentic Maine lobster bake on a deserted beach.

This may not be for everyone, as the cabins are tiny and you have to share a bathroom (unless you splurge for one in your cabin), but the community aspect would be amazing if you had a group of friends on board. (Plus it is pretty affordable for such a unique, all-inclusive experience.)

Outer Banks, North Carolina

Coquina Beach in Rodanthe NC looking through the dunes at the ocean

The beach house rentals available in the Outer Banks make it a perfect laid-back, girls’ trip destination for a large friend group. This was actually where I used to go with my college girlfriends back in my 20s, but it is still a perfect pick decades later. In addition to enjoying the beach and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you can get your thrills by trying out hang gliding off the 90-foot sand dunes at Jockey’s Ridge.

Seafood fans can explore the newly-launched North Carolina Oyster Trail, and then stop at a few of the local breweries. A visit to Roanoke will take you back to America’s earliest colonial history, and a climb to the top of America’s tallest brick lighthouse in Cape Hatteras will make a perfect photo opp to remember your trip.

Where to stay : Browse the vacation rental homes on vrbo .

Florida Keys

Kim and Tamara on swing chairs

Key West can be pricey, but if you pick some of the other Florida Keys, you can find some great options. The Florida Keys are perfect for a laid-back, island-style trip where no one needs a passport. Enjoy water sports, amazing sunsets, and fun cocktails by the pool.

When my friend Kim and I took our Florida Keys girls’ trip , we split our time during Key Largo and Key West and enjoyed snorkeling, sunset sails, and eco-adventures (plus an amazing food tour!) Even if you don’t stay in Key West, you can easily go for a day trip.

Where to Stay: Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo , a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel is a perfect spot for a girl’s trip and sunset cocktails.

Cincinnati, Ohio

The Queen City rises to the top of the list when considering the perfect midwest destination for a girlfriend getaway.  Situated along the scenic Ohio River, Cincinnati surprises visitors with an array of entertainment, an eclectic food scene, and plenty of lively happenings.

The first stop on any girlfriend getaway is Cincinnati’s historic neighborhood, Over-The-Rhine (OTR). This neighborhood has seen a massive transformation over the past decade, shaping it into today’s incredible destination. OTR is full of boutique shops, cocktail bars, craft breweries, and some of the city’s best food. Don’t miss favorites such as the Eagle’s fried chicken, a classic donut from Holtman’s, or gourmet tacos from Bakersfield.

Downtown, you will find the Aronoff Center for the Arts for those looking to catch a Broadway performance. Before you the show you can try to snag dinner reservations at nearby Sotto or Nada.

A girlfriend getaway is never complete without a mimosa or bloody mary! Cincinnati’s brunch scene is booming, offering creative dishes, and fresh local ingredients in an upbeat atmosphere.  Splurge on an exquisite brunch buffet at the Orchids of Palm Court or dine at a must-visit spot like Taste of Belgium. While the Taste of Belgium is known for its decant waffles, they also serve various traditional Belgium recipes with a twist.

Step into one of Cincinnati’s gorgeous museums and exhibits like the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, and the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center.   Enhance your art experience by touring the city with a self-guided walking tour of the downtown Artworks Murals. While there are over 130 murals throughout the city’s regions, many popular ones are found downtown and  OTR. Cap off any visit to Cincinnati with a stroll along the lovely riverwalk at Smale Riverfront Park while enjoying a scoop of Graeter’s Ice Cream.

Where to stay: 21c Museum Hotel is located in the heart of the Queen City and this unique modern hotel offers a luxurious spa, a beautiful rooftop bar, and a contemporary art museum.

Providence, Rhode Island

View of Downtown Providence from the Pedestrian Bridge

The “Creative Capital” of the country’s smallest state is a great New England girls’ weekend destination. Perfect for foodies, you can spend your whole weekend seeking out the Providence’s best restaurants, breweries, food trucks, and pop-ups. Or, make it easy and take a food tour with Rhode Island Red Food Tours.

Get your exercise by biking the East Bay Bike Path, kayaking through downtown with Providence Kayaks, or climbing College Hill and finishing with a walk across the Pedestrian Bridge. The best boutique shopping is found on Westminster Street or in Wayland Square. For relaxation, book a treatment at the Bodhi hydrotherapy spa.

Where to stay: Hotel Providence is an ideal boutique hotel option in the heart of downtown, or pick the Dean Hotel for something funky. The aLoft Providence also has a great location and a fun roof-top bar.

Door County, Wisconsin

If you want a unique destination for a girlfriend getaway, Kirsten from Kids are a Trip suggests heading to Door County, Wisconsin where you will find shopping, delicious food, and a wine trail, as well as countless outdoor adventures. Door County sits at the tip of a peninsula north of Green Bay. Surrounded by water on three sides, the peninsula is a dream getaway with breathtaking scenery, a thriving artist community, and endless opportunities for fun.

Door County is a popular Midwest summer and fall destination. The popular Door County Wine trail, which includes stops at eight local wineries, is a perfect part of a girls’ trip. There are cute local shops all over the peninsula, but take extra time to walk and explore downtown Fish Creek. It’s situated right on the water and there are some lovely restaurants. The historic White Gull Inn has a delicious French toast with cherry cream cheese filling that everyone should try once in their life.

Be sure to leave time to explore Door County’s five state parks where visitors can try everything from kayaking to exploring the island’s lighthouses (there are 11 of them). Your group should also make plans to attend a local fish boil. Door County was settled by Scandinavian immigrants and a fish boil was part of their culture. Many local restaurants prepare the fish according to traditional methods and tell stories along with the meal. It’s definitely a fun night out.

Door County also has a lavender farm (Washington Island), you-pick orchards (cherries and apples depending on the season), and seasonal festivals. There is truly something for everyone in Door County.

Where to stay: There are vacation rentals all over Door County, but consider choosing a place that is within walking distance of shops and amenities. Ephraim and Fish Creek are good choices. For a hotel stay consider Ashbrooke Hotel in Egg Harbor, Edgewater Resort in Ephraim, or White Gull Inn in Fish Creek.

Excelsior Springs, Missouri

The Elms hotel and pool at sunset

Back in its heyday in the late 1800s, Excelsior Springs drew hundreds of tourists and families hoping to drink or soak in the supposedly healing mineral waters from the dozens of springs and wells on the hillsides. The springs are long closed, but now the Missouri town near Kansas City is a relaxing destination for girlfriends who want a little pampering. Kim from Oh My! Omaha recommends the fabulous spa and accommodations at The Elms Hotel & Spa , a historic hotel.

The hotel’s lavish outdoor pool is an attraction in the summer, but the indoor spa is a year-round treat. The hotel’s spa is well known for The Grotto, think modern Roman bath with a steam sauna, cold plunge shower, steam shower, and an exfoliation bar. Within walking distance to the hotel, you can stop at a lively brewery called Dubious Claims and hit the shops, including the Willow Springs Mercantile, which features goods made by Missouri artisans.

If wine’s more of your crew’s style, visit the nearby wineries, like VanTill Family Farm & Winery or Fence Stile Winery, which offers private wine cave tours paired with candlelit wine tasting.

Tempe, Arizona

Kim Tate and Tamara Gruber hugging in front of mural in Tempe AZ

If you crave some desert sunshine and a great winter escape, head to Tempe, Arizona for a girls’ trip . This small city just outside of Phoenix is home to Arizona State University, so it has the energy of a college town with the amenities of a city. Hike up to “A” Mountain for a spectacular sunrise or sunset, kayak on Tempe Town Lake, e-bike through the city, and visit the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Make sure to enjoy some great tacos, take pictures by murals, and plan an adventure like hot air ballooning or horseback riding through the desert.

Where to stay: Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and Conference Center is a perfect spot for hiking A mountain or taking the light rail from the airport and it even has a rooftop pool (although only on the second floor.)  If you are looking for something on the trendier side, you will want to stay at either The Westin Tempe , with the tallest rooftop lounge and bar in the East Valley, or the Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown , which offers a rooftop pool for guests.

Finger Lakes, New York

Wine flight in front of a field

If your girlfriend group includes a few wine aficionados, skip Napa and head to the Finger Lakes Region in New York. Whether you stay in Ithaca on Cayuga Lake, Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake , or Hammondsport on Keuka Lake, you have your choice of wine trails, state parks, and waterfalls.

Make sure you include a sunset cruise on the lake and a visit to a local farm to taste freshly-made cheeses, ice cream, or fresh produce. You can even visit an alpaca farm and take the animals for a stroll.

Where to stay: W atkins Glen Harbor Hotel is located right on Seneca Lake and offers beautiful views, yet is a short walk into downtown or Watkins Glen State Park.

Manchester, Vermont

If you want to explore country roads, charming towns, and beautiful scenery, a Vermont girls’ trip is just the thing. Stay in artsy Brattleboro, historic Bennington, shopping-central Manchester, or charming Woodstock. You will find ample hiking to help work off all the cheese, beer, and maple syrup you will sample along the way.

Where to stay: Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester is within walking distance to the town’s many restaurants and shops, including my favorite the Northshire Bookstore. You will also find plenty of designer outlet shopping nearby.

Orange Beach, Alabama

Orange Beach girls trip - two women on beach

During spring break and the summer, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are brimming with families. However, if you can go in the shoulder season, you can still enjoy the soft, white-sand beaches without the crowds (you just may not get much of a suntan.)

Off the water, you can fill your days indulging in the region’s tasty cuisine, visit a spa, or even make your own bath products. From dolphin watching to sunset catamarans, and paddle boards to kayaks, there are so many ways to enjoy Orange Beach. A girl’s trip wouldn’t be complete without an evening at the famous Flor-a-Bama bar.

Where to stay: Rent a condo overlooking the Gulf at Turquoise Place , complete with indoor pools and a lazy river.

St. Augustine, Florida

Tamara and Keryn at Flagler College on a St. Augustine girls weekend

For anyone seeking the fountain of youth (and aren’t well all?), head to St. Augustine, Florida for a girlfriend getaway. Located on Florida’s northeastern “Historic Coast”, is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the United States so it is a great destination for history buffs, but the beach is also nearby.

Have fun exploring the charming downtown on a ghost tour, food tour, or trolley tour. You can also tour local distilleries or try local craft breweries to wash down all that yummy local food.

Where to stay: Stay downtown at the historic St. Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast to easily walk to all the local downtown attractions.

Fort Wayne, Indiana

Fort Wayne Indiana Promenade Park from the water

Fort Wayne has two big claims to fame — Vera Bradley and the Genealogy Center, which is the nation’s second-largest genealogy collection, and a great place to research family history. Yes, the Vera Bradley Annual Outlet Sale is a great time to visit and shop on a girl’s trip, but there is plenty more to enjoy in Fort Wayne for a weekend getaway.

Start off by renting kayaks, bikes, or paddle boards from Fort Wayne Outfitters and explore the riverfront in Promenade Park. Afterward, check out The Landing neighborhood, which used to be where canal boats docked to unload goods. In this new food and entertainment district, you can fill up at The Landing Beer Company or enjoy farm-to-fork dining at Tolon. Fort Wayne is also home to one of the largest Burmese populations outside of Thailand so you may want to sample authentic Burmese dishes at restaurants like Mahnin.

Your gal pals will also love searching out some of the murals that are part of Fort Wayne’s growing public art scene, shopping at great downtown boutiques, and sampling the goods at DeBrand Fine Chocolates.

Where to stay: Fort Wayne’s boutique hotel — The Bradley , which was created in partnership between Vera Bradley co-founder, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, and Provenance Hotels.

Santa Rosa, California

Kim and Tamara in front of the Korbel winery

Napa Valley is an incredibly expensive destination, but California is home to other wine country girls’ trip options such as Paso Robles and Santa Rosa in Sonoma County . Santa Rosa is the less pretentious, less expensive option in Northern California.

When my friend Kim and I visited, we not only enjoyed plentiful options for wine tasting, but also outdoor pursuits such as zip lining and hiking in a redwood forest.

Where to stay: The Flamingo Resort & Spa in Santa Rosa is a good, moderate option with a retro Hollywood vibe and nice pool.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Tamara in front of Oklahoma mural in OKC

Whether you live in the midwest or want to find a spot to “meet in the middle”, Oklahoma City is a great option. The Bricktown entertainment district offers fun bars, restaurants, and other entertainment. Be sure to take a water taxi ride along the man-made canals as a fun way to explore.

For those that enjoy learning more about history, a visit to the First American Museum and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Where to stay: The Aloft Oklahoma City Downtown – Bricktown from Marriott has the perfect location for exploring Bricktown (and an attached parking garage if you want to go further afield.)

9 Girls Weekend Getaway Ideas to Refresh and Recharge

Girlfriend getaways are like a little reset button for your friendships..

Cortney Fries

Time with friends is important, especially during the busy kid-wrangling years of parenthood. The best girls trip ideas are like a little reset button that deliver good times, laughs, and totally fresh perspectives so that you can get back to your crew with renewed energy. Even if you can only escape for the day, a quick girls trip can still have a restorative effect.

Girls Trip Ideas for Friends Who Need to Recharge

Ready to share some adventures with friends? Here are some girls trip ideas you can customize for your own personalized girlfriend getaways.

GIRLS WEEKENDS: 10 Sweet Galentine’s Day Ideas for Girlfriend Getaways

1. Go Wine Tasting

Vineyard in the Napa Valley

A day (or better yet, weekend) of sipping wine and swapping stories is a popular girls trip idea for a reason. There are more than 250 American viticultural areas (AVAs) in the U.S., and while California’s Napa Valley and Sonoma wine country are the most famous, there are options that might be closer to home as well, since more than two dozen other states also have wine regions. Whether you’re in the West, East, Midwest, or South, you’re likely not far from a wine region with tasting rooms and good time.

BRING THE WHOLE GANG: 9 Napa Valley Hotels That Welcome Kids and Families

The Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail is a favorite of mine in the Midwest. This collection of 21 wineries is located in scenic little towns near beaches and sand dunes, and is a girls weekend destination you’re sure to find a restful and rejuvenating.

Another bonus of building your girls weekend around wine tasting: Wine regions tend to have good restaurants and other girls trip activity ideas like spas, hiking, live music, and even hot air balloon rides.

2. Go for a Horseback Ride

Horseback Riding

There’s something soothing about connecting with animals in the outdoors. For a girls trip that mixes nature, adventure, and trail riding, go big and book a dude ranch weekend escape. Even the most family-friendly dude ranches in the U.S. tend to have great offerings (like wellness weekends and spa treatments) for adults traveling together.

GO WEST: 7 Best Arizona Dude Ranches with Something for Everyone

If you can escape for a long girls weekend or more, consider rounding up some friends for a girls trip to Vista Verde Guest Ranch near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The expansive blue skies seem almost as endless as the bounty of chef-prepared meals, the myriad of outdoor activities (yoga, rock climbing, paddle boarding, and more), and the herds of beautiful horses grazing outside your luxury cabin door. Spend your days cowgirling, rafting, fishing, or doing whatever your soul desires. Then toast by the campfire to days well-lived.

3. Rent a Fancy Car

If a scenic road trip in a sports car gets your motor running, rent a convertible or classic ride and hit the open road (or race track!) with your friends. There are even outfits around the U.S. that offer the chance to drive exotic and luxury cars. Las Vegas’ Exotics Racing , for instance, has the largest fleet of exotic super cars in the country. Xtreme Xperience runs cars on racetracks in 35 locations around the U.S. Its motto? No speed limits and no experience necessary.

4. Go for a Hike Together

view of two friends taking photos in Yosemite

Hiking is one of my absolute favorite girls weekend ideas. It’s so much more fun to hike while chatting with friends rather than breaking up fights between kiddos. In most places around the U.S., you’re within a few hours of exceptional hiking, and many of the nation’s prettiest spots have great trails.

One of the most gorgeous hikes I’ve ever done was around deep blue Lake Tahoe. Among the tall evergreens, climbing toward sunny skies, and surrounded by cool mountain air, I was swept up in the calm serenity of this massive alpine lake. There are hundreds of hikes around Lake Tahoe and into neighboring Desolation Wilderness.

5. Trek with Goats

Goat yoga class (Photo: @jennifermccallum via Twenty20)

OK this one is a little weirdly specific, but have you considered goat trekking? With roots in the Alps, goat trekking has become a popular way for backcountry hikers to haul their loads. But for a more relaxed approach to goat trekking, try a playful stroll through forests and meadows with baby goats from Hoof It in Galena, Illinois.

LODGE LIFE: 12 Most Iconic National Park Lodges in the U.S.

On a recent girls trip, my good friend and I wandered prairie trails with goats that would nibble and munch leaves along the way, then scamper along to catch up. Round out the day with a post-goat-trek bonfire and wine tasting.

6. Explore Food Trails and Festivals

Woman eating street food (Photo: @kaimittak via Twenty20)

Even better than going out to dinner with girlfriends is taking your time on a food trail, trying all sorts of different dishes along the way, and turning a meal into an entire girls trip. In Buffalo, New York , sample your way along the Buffalo Wing Trail . In Kentucky, hit the Kentucky Bourbon Trail . Love cheese? You’ll find plenty to enjoy on a tour of Wisconsin Cheese or while exploring the Sonoma Farm Trails in California.

FOOD HEAVEN: 12 Foodie Hotels That Will Delight Your Taste Buds

Want to ditch the car and celebrate food in one single spot? If you’re on a Midwest vacation with friends, try Chicago Gourmet , one of my absolute favorite food festivals that takes place each September. Other fun food and drink celebrations that make a great place for a girls getaway include Colorado’s annual Great American Beer Festival in October; Walt Disney World’s Taste of Epcot International Food and Wine Festival , which runs from late summer into fall; and Atlanta’s Chomp and Stomp Chili Cook-Off and Bluegrass Festival in November.

7. Bliss Out at a Spa

Relax on a Family Beach Vacation on Hawaii’s Big Island (Photo: Shutterstock)

To me, there are no better girlfriend getaways than a day of pampering that includes a deep tissue massage. Plus, what’s a better girls trip idea than blissing out together at a day spa?

TAKE FLIGHT: 17 Best Flight Booking Sites for Cheap Airfares

You and your girlfriends can find amazing day spas and resort spas around the country, but if you’re looking for a spa worth traveling for, I love Aji Spa at Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass . In the heart of the Arizona desert, this revitalizing luxury retreat features services that draw on Native American healing practices and local ingredients. Plus, you can see wild horses roaming in the distant landscape as you lounge poolside. If you can escape for a whole girls weekend or weeklong getaway, bravo to you.

8. Go for a Walk on the Beach

Girls on the beach in San Diego (Photo: @debb_alba via Twenty20)

No matter the weather, there’s something refreshing about a walk on the beach. And while family beach vacations are always fun, my friends and I can walk and talk for hours on a coastal girls getaway with ocean views (and without the kids tagging along).

LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME: 10 Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Caribbean Resorts for Couples

Beautiful beaches (and U.S. beach resorts ) abound across the country. I love the squeaky sand in Gulf Shores, Alabama ; the seaside cliffs of Monterey and Big Sur, California ; the impressive beaches of North Carolina ; the coastal beaches of New England , and of course the colorful beaches of Hawaii . If you have the time and resources for something more tropical, nothing beats the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean for a girls getaway, too (just be careful of traveling to a beach destination during hurricane season ).

9. Kayak, Paddleboard, or Bike

Kayaking (Photo: Shutterstock)

Sometimes a different mode of transportation is all you need to reset your mind. That’s why renting a kayak, paddle board, or bike is a fantastic girls trip idea. One of my favorite bike rides with a gal pal was in Anchorage, Alaska. We pedaled 11 miles on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail , enjoying nature, scenery, and good conversation the whole way.

LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME:   11 Best Adults-Only All-Inclusive Caribbean Resorts for Couples

Not only were we surrounded by snow-capped mountains and serene waters, we also encountered a mother moose with her young, fuzzy-antlered babies munching leaves along the trail. Grab your favorite girlfriends and paddle or pedal your way to a new view of the world full of natural beauty.

girlfriends getaway trip

Whether you're traveling with your mom, sister, or a group of friends, nothing beats a getaway with the girls. These 25 spots around the world are the best girls' trip destinations for a weekend escape or a longer trip packed with fun, beautiful views, and lots of quality time.

Palm Beach, Florida

For an easy-to-reach domestic girls' trip destination that promises endless year-round sunshine, a pastel color palette, and palm tree-dotted beaches, head to Palm Beach, Florida . Fly into Palm Beach International Airport, and within minutes, you'll cross the bridge to one of the wealthiest yet most approachable zip codes in America — a town beloved for its history and hidden gems.

The Colony Hotel , located just steps from Worth Avenue (or the Rodeo Drive of the East Coast), is picture perfect. Plus, its pink façade, complimentary beach cruisers, green banana leaf wallpaper, chauffeured beach buggy, and poolside frosé bar are practically meant for a weekend with the girls. For a more luxurious option, splurge on a stay at The Breakers , a glamorous resort dating back to the Gilded Age.

Just across the Intracoastal Waterway, West Palm Beach offers more of a downtown feel. Stay at the Hilton West Palm Beach, where yoga, brunch, and District Fit wellness weekends make for the ideal girlfriend getaway or The Ben, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel inspired by the pioneering spirit of old Florida. Spruzzo on the rooftop is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Want to up the ante even more? Each September brings Flavor Palm Beach , the restaurant month of the Palm Beaches, and October is Spa & Wellness Month , so plan a trip spanning both for the ultimate weekend away with your besties.

The Palm Beach region tops the list of the best places to visit in Florida , and with the Brightline train, you can easily add Fort Lauderdale and Miami to your weekend plans, too.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Make it a spa weekend at Ojo Santa Fe , a lush, 70-acre mirage of sorts tucked into the desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico. For a rejuvenating trip with your girlfriends, plan to relax in the resort's outdoor soaking tubs and dine on farm-fresh meals during your all-inclusive stay. You can also look forward to accommodations in an adobe-style casita and daily wellness-centered activities such as yoga and meditation, horticulture, culinary and art classes, and even puppy playtime.

If you want a more urban take on Santa Fe, stay at La Posada de Santa Fe, a Tribute Portfolio Resort & Spa , a charming property that's within walking distance of the Santa Fe School of Cooking , where you can learn to create the traditional flavors of American Southwest cuisine.

California's Pacific Coast Highway

If you've ever dreamed of driving California's scenic Pacific Coast Highway , consider doing it with your girls. This trip comes with mind-blowing views, adorable roadside cafes, and other attractions worth pulling over for (including a Super Bloom , if you time it right).

You can drive the entire West Coast from San Diego to Seattle (though with more than 20 hours of driving, you might need more than a weekend), or just pick a particularly Instagram-worthy stretch, like Los Angeles to San Francisco, which clocks in at around six hours.

Want to skip the hassle of switching off drivers, being cramped in a vehicle, and having to stop for bathrooms and snacks? Tackle the journey by train on Amtrak's Coast Starlight route . You can book seats or sleeper cars and disembark in places like Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey along the way. The rails snake along a cliffside and offer views just as beautiful as the highway approach, minus the drawbacks of driving.

U.S. East Coast on Amtrak

Already trekked the West Coast? Amtrak has an East Coast equivalent to its Coast Starlight adventure : the Silver Service/Palmetto route from Miami to New York City. You can stop in charming Southern cities, historic towns, and major hubs along the way; the route hits West Palm Beach, Orlando, Savannah, Charleston, Raleigh, Richmond, Baltimore, Alexandria, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and many more before arriving in the Big Apple.

Whether you're in it for the food, the photo ops, or the educational opportunities, the Silver Service/Palmetto route is a solid choice for a fun trip with the girls.

Airbnb a Celebrity Home

There's nothing like a good theme to elevate a weekend getaway with the girls. Thanks to Airbnb, you can rent celebrity homes , like the Mexico mansion of Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and Sonny and Cher's Hollywood-area bungalow in the trees. If you and your girls have been to every tour since the '70s, taking your super-fandom a step further by staying in Cher's bungalow only seems right.

Florida Keys

If you're dreaming of a tropical island vacation that requires no passport, consider the Florida Keys. From Key Largo to Key West, home of the southernmost point in the continental United States, this destination is packed with easygoing vibes and plenty of relaxing sea breezes.

Book a stay at Bungalows Key Largo, an all-inclusive property populated by stand-alone bungalows; Isla Bella Beach Resort, where every room on the private 24-acre property has an ocean view and oversized outdoor terrace (perfect for lounging with your girls); Playa Largo Resort & Spa , a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel where you can kayak, parasail, snorkel, paddleboard, or learn to sail; Baker's Cay Resort, a Curio Collection by Hilton property; or Little Palm Island Resort & Spa , the only private island resort in the U.S.

No matter where you go in the Keys, expect an adventurous weekend on the water: snorkeling, diving, boating, and fishing are among the water sports on offer.

On land, head to Robbie's in Islamorada to hand-feed massive tarpon. Craving fresh fish? Take it from a local: The Fish House in Key Largo is where you'll find the best fresh catch in the Keys, as it's one of the few remaining restaurants that sources solely from local commercial fishers and filets all fish on the premises.

Grab Your Girlfriends and Spend a Weekend Drinking Wine in Vintage Campers at This Scenic Vineyard

Cayman islands.

If you and your girls are up for an adventure, head to the Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman is a quick flight from Miami, and you can fit scuba diving, kitesurfing, sailing, and swimming with stingrays all into one weekend. Stay at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa on Grand Cayman or Southern Cross Club on Little Cayman and get ready for a tropical take on girl time.

Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia , is a favorite destination for its food, history, and, of course, irresistible Southern charm. Perry Lane Hotel serves as the perfect weekend launch pad, since it's within walking or biking distance to highlights like the Riverwalk, Leopold's Ice Cream , Forsyth Park, Plant Riverside District , and more. Plus, the hotel provides complimentary bicycles to guests.

Of course, you can't go to Savannah without dining at The Olde Pink House , but The Grey — a restaurant and bar in a repurposed Greyhound bus station — is another solid option. Drive to the nearby Wormsloe State Historic Site for a dose of history; have drinks at the underground Alley Cat Lounge after exploring the American Prohibition Museum ; and don't forget to close out your day with a ghost tour through Savannah's haunted streets.

Nevada is chock-full of Wild West road trip routes, but the Free-Range Art Highway from Reno to Las Vegas only takes about seven hours, so it's easy to accomplish in a weekend, and you'll pass bizarre roadside art, wide-open deserts, and the ghostly remnants of Gold Rush-era boom towns.

Spend the night at the (haunted) Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, and make sure to include spots like La Casita , the International Car Forest of the Last Church , Happy Burro (for memorable chili), Rhyolite , and the Goldwell Open Air Museum on your weekend road trip itinerary.

Rent a Tesla or another electric vehicle: This route is the first rollout of the Nevada Electric Highway and has charging stations placed at strategic locations along the way.

New York City

When it comes to putting together an action-packed weekend, you couldn't ask for a destination that offers more to do and see than New York City . Do yourselves a favor and grab a CityPass, which comes with entry for up to 12 of New York's top attractions. Make time for activities like walking the High Line, biking through Central Park, indulging in pizza, and catching a Broadway play. Stay in the heart of the action at Renaissance New York Times Square, which offers a stellar location with views of the flashing neon signs of Times Square. For those who prefer something smaller and more customized, there are plenty of great boutique hotels in New York City as well.

Alexandria, Virginia

Just a few minutes outside of Washington, D.C. sits one of the most charming cities in America: Alexandria, Virginia . Alexandria was the hometown of first U.S. president George Washington. Today, it's home to 200 independent restaurants and boutiques (read: amazing shopping and food) and provides quick access to the big-city perks of nearby D.C. while maintaining a slower-paced, small-town feel.

Stay at Hotel Indigo Old Town Alexandria , located just off the main drag of King Street, and hop on and off the free King Street Trolley to explore the historic district. Your girls will love snapping photos in front of the Spite House and Captain's Row, grabbing cocktails at The People's Drug and Captain Gregory's (a speakeasy tucked into a donut shop), and walking the waterfront with a view of D.C. across the Potomac River.

Want to let your hair down and enjoy a vacation with your girls without having to bother with planning, logistics, budgeting, and coordinating schedules? Booking a cruise is a seamless way to organize an all-inclusive girls' trip and make sure everyone's happy. With some research and advance booking, a cruise can even be a cheap girls' trip , with food, drinks, and a range of activities included.

Short cruises are available year-round and head to destinations ranging from the U.S. to the Caribbean, Mexico, and even Europe. Check itineraries from cruise lines like Royal Caribbean , Celebrity Cruises , and Virgin Voyages , which have a classy feel tied with a youthful verve, ideal for a fun-loving group of ladies.

Miami, Florida

No place packs a sizzle quite like Miami, Florida , and your girls will love the contrast of sunny beaches and energetic nightlife. If you want to get the most out of your trip, go in August — it's hot, yes, but it's also the only month when there's an overlap between Miami's spa , restaurant , and hotel months. You can stay in five-star hotels, indulge in luxurious spa treatments, and dine at Miami's best restaurants for a more affordable price.

Charlotte, North Carolina

If your girls love a mix of outdoor adventure, amazing food, and city living, then Charlotte, North Carolina , is an ideal weekend getaway option.

Head to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, an official Olympic training site and home of the world's largest man-made whitewater river . Here, you can grab a day pass for unlimited access to activities like rock climbing, bouldering, zip lining, kayaking, yoga, stand-up paddleboarding, and whitewater rafting, all spread across the 1,300-acre complex.

Queen Park Social , a restaurant, bar, and gaming center, is another fun place to play — albeit with less adventurous activities (think old-school string bowling, shuffleboard, Jenga, and arcade-style games).

Optimist Hall is another can't-miss venue in Charlotte. The building underwent $60 million in renovations to transform an old textile mill into a bustling food hall with a wide variety of vendors slinging everything from hot chicken to cold-pressed juices to some of the most delicious dumplings outside of China (courtesy of The Dumpling Lady ). And, of course, it's not a trip to the South without some good Carolina-style barbecue. For that, head to Noble Smoke , where melt-in-your-mouth meats are prepared in wood-fired smokers around back.

Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs is a perfectly Californian getaway, providing exactly the kind of laid-back vibes you'd expect from SoCal — Coachella season or not. Whether your girls are into hot springs, vintage boutiques, spas, mid-century modern architecture, hiking, or a stylish hotel scene, Palm Springs makes it easy to please. Book a stay at Ace Hotel & Swim Club , a Palm Springs classic.

Tulum, Mexico

Whether your group is after a lively party scene or simply wants to unplug, Tulum delivers. You can swim in cenotes, explore Mayan ruins, indulge in an outdoor spa day, or just relax near the ocean. Plus, you'll be able to fill up on fresh fruits, juices, and tasty Mexican cuisine, complete with margaritas straight from the source. When it comes to accommodations, Papaya Playa Project and Nômade are super-photogenic favorites.

Cartagena, Colombia

Located on Colombia's Caribbean coast , Cartagena is a relatively short direct flight from many destinations in the U.S., yet you'll feel as if you've touched down in another world entirely. Expect colorful streets, amazing food, and nights spent salsa dancing, plus artisan goods to shop and beautiful beaches to explore. Wander the walled Old Town with your group and you'll quickly understand Cartagena's appeal.

London, England

If you're departing from the East Coast, spending a long weekend in London is more practical than you'd think — a nonstop flight from New York, for example, takes as little as six and a half hours. It might be a whirlwind weekend, but London makes for one of the best girls' trips in Europe. Even if the trip is a bit of a whirlwind, a walk over Tower Bridge, an elegant afternoon tea, the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, and hearing the tolling bells of Big Ben with your girls is more than worth it.

ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, or Curaçao)

Longing for a Caribbean getaway? Head to the ABC Islands — Aruba , Bonaire , and Curaçao — part of the Dutch Caribbean. Each presents a European feel splashed with the colorful vibrance of the Caribbean and accented by some of the world's most beautiful beaches. In Curaçao's capital, Willemstad, you can pose in front of stepped gable façades in a rainbow of colors or visit the blue curaçao distillery.

In Aruba, stay at the Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort for access to the hotel's 40-acre private island, home of the Instagram-famous flamingos. For a bit of adventure, join a Jeep to Arikok National Park, where you can swim in a natural pool and visit caves with paintings from the Arawak people.

Lisbon, Portugal

Gautier Houba/Travel + Leisure

With many direct flights available from the U.S., the Portuguese capital of Lisbon is doable in a long weekend . A flight from New York takes around six and a half hours, and you can often find good deals from major hubs. Lisbon's reasonable prices make it an affordable girls' trip destination full of wine, rich culture, appealing architecture, and picturesque beaches just outside the city. Ride the trams, explore Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery, walk Pink Street, and snack on all the pasteis de nata you can handle.

Providence, Rhode Island

The capital of Rhode Island , Providence, has a lot to love, including Plant City, the world's first plant-based vegan food hall, and WaterFire , an awe-inspiring downtown celebration that involves dramatic fire and art displays along the Providence and Woonasquatucket rivers. Providence has a big-city feel with many trendy bars, restaurants, and hotels, yet is far more laid-back than your typical urban break.

Looking to get out of the city? Head to Bristol on Mount Hope Bay and stay at the historic Bradford-Dimond-Norris House , a family-run bed-and-breakfast, and dig into fresh New England seafood at The Lobster Pot .

Orlando, Florida

David Pavlina/Travel + Leisure

Sure, it's one of the busiest destinations in the country, but there's a reason for its popularity: Orlando, Florida , is packed with things to do for all ages.

You and your friends can don matching Mickey ears and hop between Disney's four parks for the weekend, or opt for adrenaline-filled thrills and Harry Potter magic at Universal's parks . Stay in one of the many Disney-sanctioned properties with easy access to the parks, such as Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek , and relax at your resort in between park visits.

Dine at Disney Springs just outside the parks — Wine Bar George has girls' night written all over it — or Bigfire at CityWalk , which connects Universal Studios and Universal's Islands of Adventure, for a buzzy late night on the town.

Alternatively, head away from the parks to spots like East End Market , where both Domu and Gideon's Bakehouse cookies are a must, Mia's Italian Kitchen for bottomless brunch, Plant Street Market (on-site Crooked Can Brewing Company is a local favorite), or ritzy Winter Park for the best of central Florida without the crowds.

The West Orange Trail is another perfect Orlando activity if you're tired of tourists and theme park lines. You can rent a bicycle from Bikes and Blades and explore a peaceful, lesser-known side of the area, complete with oak canopies and lakeside views.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a great pick for a city break , even during its famously frigid winters. In the colder months, you can go ice skating, treat yourself to over-the-top hot chocolate creations, sip wine in riverside "igloos," and warm up over a shared deep-dish pizza. Summers in Chicago are even more glorious — it's the perfect time to hit up the city's festivals, beaches, and rooftop bars.

No matter the season, stay at the historic Palmer House , home of one of the most stunning Art Deco lobbies in the world; book tickets for a play; and stop by Goddess and the Baker for a slice of rainbow cake and a gold glitter latte.

Located around 80 miles off the coast of Florida, the Bahamas is a surprisingly easy-to-reach island destination. Whether you head to Nassau or one of the Out Islands, you're in for a weekend of relaxing, sipping cocktails, filling up on fresh conch ceviche, and just enjoying everything that makes a tropical vacation so dreamy.

Stay at any of the three resort properties at Baha Mar or opt for a room at Atlantis, the ultimate in Bahamian indulgence — The Cove has an adults-only pool and a more upscale vibe. Book your group a wine-blending class at colorful Bahama Barrels by Graycliff and you'll each get to blend your very own bottle of vino to take home as a souvenir. And, of course, work in plenty of beach and pool time.

Montréal, Canada

For a city break with cute alleys, cafés, and cobblestone streets, head to Montréal in Canada's French-speaking region of Québec. You and your pals can fill up on poutine (and enjoy the rest of the city's thriving food scene), hike Mount Royal, wander historic Old Montréal, ride ferris wheel La Grande Roue de Montréal, visit the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal, and enjoy a breath of fresh air at the Montréal Botanical Garden. Book a hotel in the Old Town for both charm and a convenient location near Montréal's many highlights. Depending on when you go, a visit to Montréal can be one of the best girls' trips on a budget, as the US dollar is strong against the Canadian dollar and prices tend to be lower than in comparable cities like New York.

The Best Girlfriend Weekend Getaways in the USA

06/18/2019 by Kristin Addis 5 Comments

Planning a weekend getaway with your girlfriends? Here are 10 wonderful destinations in the USA that's perfect for everybody - whether your friend group prefers the outdoors, a lively or peaceful atmosphere, something natural, or more of a city vibe. If you have a long weekend coming up, this is the list for you! #USATravelTips #WeekendGetaway

As much as I love my solitude, I wouldn’t be who I am without my girlfriends. The women who have helped shape me and who continue to be my biggest cheerleaders hold a very special place in my life, and in my travels. Each year, we make it a point to have an adventure together at least once.

Though I’ve been lucky enough to travel in Thailand and Europe a few times with some of my friends, for the most part we focus on hanging in the USA, where we’re from. Given how much variety there is stateside, there’s no shortage of girlfriend getaways we can pack into a weekend.

Whether your friend group prefers the outdoors, a lively or peaceful atmosphere, something natural, or more of a city vibe, there’s something on this list that can make everyone in your group happy. These are some of our favorite girlfriend weekend getaways:

Table of Contents

1. Moab, Utah

needles overlook

This little slice of Utah is one of my favorite places on the entire planet. The town itself has a funky, laid back vibe, but the real magic is out in the multitude of state and national parks in the area. Within a max of 45 minutes from town you’ve got Arches National Park , Dead Horse Point State Park, Canyonlands National Park, and all of the arches and stunning natural areas that border them.

While this is more of an outdoorsy suggestion, many of the more stunning points of interest are overlooks that you can drive right up to, including the famous Mesa Arch, The Windows, the Needles Overlook, and Dead Horse Point. For a more comprehensive list of ideas,  check out this post .

Stay: This is the perfect place for camping, but if you’d rather opt for glamping or a hotel, those options are available too. For a truly unique experience, check out Under Canvas Moab .

Getting There: Fly into Salt Lake City and enjoy the 4-hour drive to Moab. This one is best for long weekends!

2. Orange County, California

orange county

As a former resident of Newport Beach in Orange County , I can say with certainty that this is the perfect girlfriend weekend getaway that truly has something for everyone. There’s the gorgeous stretch of coastline, great shopping at Fashion Island, Disneyland is only a 15-minute drive away, and so is Angels Stadium if you’re baseball lovers. Though it’s a bit pricey, you can also take a helicopter ride over the OC for a truly unique viewpoint and the perfect overview of it all.

Stay: VRBO  is a great option in this area if you want to stay on the beach in Newport – and you should!

Getting there: Getting to the coast is easy and painless with a flight into John Wayne Airport (SNA) and a quick drive to one of the beach towns.

3. Washington, D.C.

girlfriend weekend getaways dc

For East Coast friend groups, DC is an easy one since it’s such a hub for flights from all around the US. There are so many neighborhoods in the city and it’s so rich in history, plus it’s beautiful. I’m a big fan of the free Smithsonian museums, Botanic Garden, and the National Gallery of Art. Here’s a listing of 14 free museums in DC .

If you’re craving some sea views, Annapolis is only 50 minutes away. If your group loves horses, Middleburg, VA is only an hour and 25 minute drive away. Here’s a listing of more ideas .

Stay : Georgetown is a cool college area with great nightlife.

Getting there: Both Washington Dulles and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport work for your DC getaway, though the latter is much closer.

4. Las Vegas, Nevada

seven magic mountains

Out of all the places on this list, this is the one my girlfriends and I have visited the most often. The airport is so well connected, there’s not shortage of things to do, and it’s also naturally beautiful all around Vegas.

While seeing world-class shows and dancing the day away at pool parties (a favorite of ours) are great ways to spend one’s time, I also highly recommend heading away from the Strip for a day and checking out the Seven Magic Mountains art installation just a 20 minute drive down Interstate 15, or heading north to the Valley of Fire State Park for a sunrise or sunset.

Stay : We usually book the best deal on the Strip, though our favorites are Mandalay Bay and the MGM Grand .

Getting there: Las Vegas McCarran International Airport is super close to the Strip and easy to find flight deals to!

5. Santa Barbara, California

El capitan campgrounds

I’ll admit I’m biased towards Santa Barbara, since it’s the college town where I met my girlfriends, but we adore meeting up in SB for a weekend of fun in the sun. Not only are there some of the most gorgeous beaches in the country (Butterfly Beach and Haskell’s), but also there is some of the best shopping on State Street and beautiful hiking trails in Montecito.

Stay: Though Santa Barbara might seem pretty high-end, there are great campgrounds nearby at El Capitan and Gaviota where I see dolphins every single time I camp there, as well as cheaper VRBO options in SB’s neighbor, Goleta.

Getting there: Santa Barbara Airport is so small and lovely to fly into!

6. Austin, Texas

girlfriend getaway austin texas

Austin is probably Texas’ most beloved city, not just for the wealth of things to do, but for the alternative vibe. Some of my favorite activities there involve the water, including tubing down the river or visiting Barton Springs, a natural spring-fed pool, with a year-round average temperature of  68°F (20°C). Depending on time of year, make it a point to attend SXSW festival or a Longhorns football game.

Stay: I stayed at the JW Marriott downtown while in Austin and loved the room and location.

Getting there:  Austin–Bergstrom International Airport has plenty of nonstop flights on Southwest Airlines from all around the country, and for cheap!

7. Sedona, Arizona

sedona girlfirend getaway

Sedona is a little artist’s oasis in Arizona with a hippie vibe and a wealth of beautiful day hikes. If your girlfriends enjoy a nice hike now and then but prefer to sleep in a hotel at night, this is the perfect compromise between the outdoorsy and the comfortable, without breaking the bank. Some of the best hikes are the Devil’s Bridge, Bell Rock, and Cathedral Rock. They’re all pretty short, moderate hikes with a big payoff at the end. For more things to do in Arizona, check out my itinerary .

Stay: There are plenty of cute VRBOs in Sedona to choose from.

Getting there:  Flagstaff International Airport is the closest small commercial airport to Sedona, or fly to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and drive for two hours to reach Sedona.

8.  San Francisco Bay Area, California

Bay bridge baker beach

This one’s a natural fit for me because so many of my girlfriends live here, so I’ve seen all of the tourist and non-touristy sights in the Bay Area and keep going back! For a great view of the Bay Bridge, head to Baker Beach. If you’re interested in a more alternative vibe, I love Oakland’s Lake Merritt area for its eateries, and on Sundays, Ecstatic Dance is a favorite of ours. In the city, be sure to check out the Painted Ladies for the perfect photo op or walk along The Presidio for some nature. Haight-Ashbury is one of my favorite places to shop and hang out as well!

Stay: SF can be expensive but if you split a  VRBO  it can be a bit more affordable.

Getting there: Both San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oakland International Airport (OAK) are easy to fly into, though I prefer Oakland since it’s smaller. Pick based on where you’ll spend more time.

*For a full list of my California options, be sure to check out my post on Alamo’s Scenic Route .

9. Ft. Myers, Florida

florida sailing school

While Miami might seem like a more likely girlfriend getaway than Ft. Myers, hear me out! This little stretch of beach and accompanying islands on the Gulf Side of Florida has two things that make it perfect for girlfriends who love the water – sailing lessons and kayaking through gorgeous mangroves. Those two things made me fall in love with Ft. Myers and honestly, a weekend of sailing with friends sounds like tons of fun to me! You can learn more about sailing in Ft. Myers here.

Stay: I loved Pink Shell Resort and Marina ‘s huge rooms.

Getting there: Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is an easy 30-minute drive from downtown Ft. Myers.

10. Portland, Oregon

Multnomah Falls girlfriend getaways

Have you ever heard the slogan, ‘Keep Portland Weird’? That’s what’s so alluring about the city, plus the gorgeous Multnomah waterfalls that are only a 35-minute drive from the city, and a 2.2-mile hike to the top of the falls. Portland is perfect for live music, perusing the books at the largest independent bookstore in the world, Powell’s Books, and the (easy) hike to Mt. Tabor. Here’s a list with more things to do including farmer’s markets and free gardens.

Stay: The Inn at Northrup Station is cute, affordable, and well-loved.

Getting there: Fly into Portland International Airport (PDX).

I hope your girlfriend group loves these spots as much as mine has. Whether you’re craving the ocean, the warmth of the desert, the ease of a city getaway, or something that combines the outdoors and creature comforts, this list has a mix of many at once.

Kansas City

"My daughter and I have gone to Kansas City for the past three years. We stay at the Raphael Hotel, which looks out onto Country Club Plaza. We spend a day shopping at Country Club Plaza and getting manis and pedis. One day is spent at the art museums and finding different places to dine (besides barbecue). Our trip this year will include the Power & Light District, and, of course, shopping. It's a great way for a mom and daughter to spend time together."— Karen Vokracka, Oakville, Missouri

Madison, Wisconsin

"We have a sisters weekend every fall. One of our best trips was to Madison, Wisconsin. We stayed at the Concourse Hotel right on Capitol Square. We walked around the city center, seeing the capitol building, the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Monona Terrace center on Lake Monona, and State Street shops and eateries. The Saturday farmers market around Capitol Square is full of treats and a variety of people, plants, and animals. This town definitely has something for everyone, but the best was just to have time together."— Lynda Ryan, Kenosha, Wisconsin

Galena, Illinois

"My mom and I took a road trip from Des Moines, Iowa, to Galena, Illinois. We stopped at some great small towns along the way to eat and shop and then had a fun weekend in Galena. We did a lot of shopping there! We also walked up the stairs that take you up the bluffs from downtown and enjoyed the incredible views. One afternoon we drove around to look at some of the historic sites, including Grant's home. It is just always so fun to spend this girl time with my mom."— Jennifer Carroll, Fair Grove, Missouri

Northern Minnesota

"My friends and I hike in northern Minnesota. We love the fall colors, the lack of mosquitoes and black flies, and Lake Superior in all its moods."— Barbara Goetzelman, Antioch, Illinois

Door County, Wisconsin

"Five of us worked together for many years and vowed that we would retire together. Well, one of us moved, and the office where the rest worked was closed. But we still get together every year. One of our favorite spots is Door County, Wisconsin . We meet on a Friday and have a delicious dinner. We shop till we drop all day Saturday. Saturday night is spent in the hotel suite, catching up. On Sunday we eat breakfast and leave for our respective homes, with plans for next year already in place."— Terry Schmitt, Lakeville, Minnesota

"Beginning in 1984 and going strong ever since, my girlfriends and I go to Chicago before Thanksgiving to shop for Christmas presents, eat at wonderful restaurants and see the lights of the season. Not all of us have gone every year, but most of us haven't missed more than a couple. We have shared happiness (marriage, babies, retirement) and sorrow (one dear friend died of cancer). And now we're planning for the next year."— Ann Siegfried, Huntington, Indiana

Madison, Indiana

"My daughter and I have gone to Madison, Indiana, since she was in first grade. We stay at Clifty Falls State Park and shop, hike and play board games. I've watched her graduate from juice boxes to fine wines, all while watching paddle wheelers float by on the Ohio River."— Cindy DiBiase, Lawrenceberg, Indiana

"My girlfriend Terry and I used to take our daughters for our 'girls weekends' to Duluth. We would travel up the North Shore on Saturday and then stay the night in a hotel in Duluth Saturday night. Sunday we would shop in Duluth—lots of fun places to shop there!" -Marie Hess Keefe, Pine City, Minnesota

Amana Colonies, Iowa

"My mom and I loved taking day trips to the Amana Colonies in Iowa. I can see all the stores in my memory, though their names escape me now. Our noon mainstay was rhubarb pie, and our last stop was the meat market to buy summer sausage for my husband and cheese for my dad. Mom is gone now, but thinking of the Amanas brings happy tears to my eyes."— Kay Porter Westendorf, Fort Worth, Texas

Lakelands of Minnesota

"We love to head for the lakes area of Minnesota: Detroit Lakes , Park Rapids , Walker. We hit all the little shops on the way. It's a beautiful drive, a day of great shopping treasures found, good food and drinks, and maybe a quick stop on the way home in Dorset (which bills itself as 'Restaurant Capital of the World'). Beware, lines for dinner in this tiny town form in the late afternoon." -Deb Watne, Moorhead, Minnesota

Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

"My friends go to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This year, we all turned 70 (ouch). The first time, we were in high school. You do the math! Great town, beautiful shops—and we love each other's company."— Terry Wuich, Des Plaines, Illinois

Sometimes a girls’ getaway is just what we need to refresh and recharge. Orlando is one of those destinations that can be whatever you want it to be: a relaxing oasis, an exciting adventure, a night out, or a family trip.

You can experience a little bit of everything in Orlando , which makes it one of the most popular destinations for people from all over the globe. While Orlando has countless things to do, see, and experience, these are my top choices for an ideal girlfriends’ getaway.

Note: Rosen Plaza hosted my stay. All opinions remain my own.

The pool at the Rosen Plaza hotel in Orlando.

1. Check In At The Rosen Plaza

Nestled on International Drive, Rosen Plaza is the ultimate place to stay during your girlfriends’ getaway in Orlando. Complete with the best amenities — restaurants, bars and lounges, a tropical pool, and let’s not forget the extremely plush robes — Rosen Plaza is a dream hotel.

Their guest rooms include double-bed accommodations and countless suite options perfect for a few nights away for you and the girls. Plus, its location is ideal for exploring the rest of Orlando and all it has to offer.

Rosen Plaza’s heightened cleaning, health, and safety regulations during the pandemic will help you rest assured that your health is being taken seriously during your stay at the hotel.

2. Enjoy 39 Poolside

While at Rosen Plaza, you don’t want to miss out on brunch at 39 Poolside . Enjoy freshly prepared bites and cocktails while laying out by the pool and soaking up the sun with your girlfriends.

Poolside offers non-traditional brunch options like their perfectly grilled salmon salad topped with a pineapple vinaigrette. Don’t forget to try their expertly crafted cocktails like the 39 Special, which is an infusion of banana and peach schnapps, Bacardi rum, and tropical fruit juices perfect for cooling off on a hot day!

3. Jack’s Place

Rosen Plaza’s onsite restaurant and lounge, Jack’s Place , is more than just a restaurant — it’s a place to dine among the stars! Well, maybe not literally — but the dining room is host to one of the largest collections of caricatures of well-known athletes, artists, and other celebrities. Some of these include Alfred Hitchcock, Neil Armstrong, and even Queen Elizabeth II! Besides its unusual wall decor, Jack’s Place will delight you with its impeccable service and mouthwatering seafood and steakhouse meals.

4. Comedy Dinner Show

If you are looking for dinner and a laugh, this is for you! The Comedy Dinner Show at WonderWorks Orlando is a hilarious experience you won’t soon forget. The show is interactive and entails non-stop engagement with the audience, so if participation isn’t your thing, you may want to sit this one out.

Dinner includes unlimited hand-tossed pizza (cheese and pepperoni), salads, wine, beer, and dessert. The comedy dinner show is definitely an excellent option for a relaxed and casual night full of laughs with your girls!

In my opinion, going to see this show is worth it just to visit the WonderWorks building. It’s a giant laboratory that looks like it was built upside down from the outside. Talk about an architectural feat! If nothing else, it’s certainly a fun novelty to experience during your Orlando girls’ trip.

women holding wine glass at Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurants

5. Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant

At Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant , you’ll have a truly memorable wine experience. Coopers Hawk winemakers travel the globe to find the absolute best grapes and, when found, begin crafting their signature wines.

The restaurant and winery’s philosophy is that wine and food make lasting connections, making it a fitting place to visit with your girls during your weekend getaway.

Dining at Cooper’s Hawk has a casual contemporary atmosphere and a menu with classic American dishes that incorporate world influences. Cooper’s Hawk has won over 500 wine awards in local, national, and international competitions.

When dining at Cooper’s Hawk, whether for lunch or dinner, I suggest trying the chef’s seasonal recommendations menu. The menu recommends an appetizer, entree, and dessert as well as wine pairings.

One of the highlights of the menu at Cooper’s Hawk is that each item has a suggested wine pairing, which leads to a wonderfully well-rounded experience and allows you to taste their specialties without any confusion when it comes to which wine to choose.

If you’re not a wine drinker, they also have a selection of signature cocktails, martinis, and beer, which are bound to delight the palate.

6. Disney Springs Shopping

Disney Springs is your one-stop-shop for everything food, shopping, and entertainment when in Orlando. This outdoor shopping concept has something for all ages. You’re sure to find some interesting buys as you explore the 103 shops! You can find various shops ranging from designer buys like Coach and Kate Spade to famous fashion houses like Anthropologie, Zara, and Lucky Brand, to workout gear, jewelry, and Disney-inspired shops and merchandise.

Regardless of your fashion tastes and preferences, there is something for everyone in Disney Springs. Besides, what’s more fun than shopping with your girlfriends?

Be sure to leave some room for noshing and sipping — Disney Springs has an array of full-service restaurants, quick-service eateries, bars, and snack stands. Our favorites are Paddlefish and Wine Bar George. And shopping does make a girl hungry.

Enjoy the fresh air and blue or sunset skies during your stroll around Disney Springs. One of the highlights of Disney Springs is the beautiful view of Lake Buena Vista and the sparkling lights that light up the sidewalk and pier at night.

Pro Tip: Definitely do not miss Disney Springs’ “rare amphibious vehicle” Vintage Amphicar experience — so much fun on a gals’ getaway!

7. Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse

If you haven’t dined at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse , a weekend getaway is a perfect time to try it! Featured on International Drive’s 10 best restaurants, Del Frisco’s offers stylish dining and mouthwatering meats.

The restaurant possesses a modern and posh flair and includes two bars, five private dining rooms, as well as a gorgeous patio.

If you and your girlfriends are wine lovers, Del Frisco’s has 1,200 different wines on their menu for you to explore. The expert sommelier is sure to recommend a wine ideal for your tastes, mood, and meal!

Suppose you want to experience the best of what Del Frisco’s has to offer. In that case, I recommend ordering the Double Eagle Tasting, which allows you to choose two or three of the following options: Prime New York Strip Steak, Filet Mignon, Jumbo Shrimp, Petite Lobster Tail, and Salmon.

For something fun to share with your girls, try their Shanghai-Style Fried Calamari, which is tossed in a sweet chili glaze and topped with bean sprouts, cherry peppers, crushed peanuts, and scallions. Del Frisco’s is an exquisite setting for a fancy night out with the girls.

9. Morse Museum In Winter Park

A visit to the Morse Museum serves as a perfect injection of art and culture into your weekend away. The Morse Museum is home to the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany, one of the great artists of the 19th century. Marvel at the unique jewelry, pottery, paintings, art glass, leaded-glass lamps, and windows that the museum has to offer.

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the works and genuinely excited to share them with guests. It is a beautiful space to bask in beauty and creation and maybe even get inspired yourself! Keep in mind that the museum is open via reservation only, so make a plan for when you will be visiting this Orlando gem.

10. iFly Orlando

Are you craving adventure during your girl’s getaway in Orlando? iFly is sure to give you the experience of a lifetime. Always wanted to try skydiving, but not so keen on jumping out of a plane? iFly delivers the skydiving experience indoors and without the risk! The indoor wind tunnel allows you to feel what it’s like to fly through the air without jumping or falling.

You don’t need to wear any special clothing to the location, just be sure to wear closed-toed shoes; the flight suit will go on over your clothes.

Flight instructors will take you through a short orientation before you enter the flight chamber and experience what it feels like to be weightless! This is a unique and fun experience to share together during your weekend getaway.

11. Mural Walk Downtown Orlando

During your trip to Orlando, you may notice the wall murals on many buildings. The Mural walk is a guide to see the best murals downtown has to offer and an accompanying food tour! You can see the complete guide here .

The guide takes you from day to night and is broken down into districts. Each district has recommendations for where to eat and which murals to be on the lookout for! Grab your sneakers, hats, and sunglasses because this tour involves a lot of walking (and eating, too)!

Don’t forget to check out the Ravenous Pig at the end of your mural tour in Winter Park. It’s one of Orlando’s best restaurants and focuses on sustainable and seasonal food grown in Florida. They are renowned for their creativity in dishes and impeccable preparation. I would highly recommend the red wine short ribs and the rock shrimp with blue grits.

In my opinion, this mural tour is a must-do! It is the perfect opportunity to see alternative art, taste great food, get some exercise, and catch up with your girlfriends.

11. Icon Park

Among Orlando’s many amusement parks is Icon Park . Icon Park features theme park attractions, restaurants, and museums, including Madame Tussaud’s.

While in Icon Park, I recommend experiencing The Wheel . The Wheel gives you and your girlfriends a birds-eye view of the city from 400 feet in the air.

Riding The Wheel is similar to being on a Ferris wheel ride, but with plenty of added luxury. Each capsule is air-conditioned with entirely transparent walls so that you won’t miss an inch of the incredible views. Grab an adult beverage before hopping into your capsule to the clouds as you raise your glasses to toast a fantastic Orlando girls’ getaway!

If there was ever a hub for amusement, adventure, and excitement, Orlando is undoubtedly it. Whatever you and your girlfriends are interested in, you are sure to find something that will please everyone.

Orlando is known for its hospitality and unique attractions as a tourist hotspot, ensuring that your experience will be nothing but enjoyable. For even more inspiration, consider these 11 Things To Do In Orlando Besides Visiting Theme Parks .

Montauk, New York

Group photo of a girls trip to Montauk

Every June, a group of 10 of us clear our calendars, pack our bags, and head out east for a four-day weekend in Montauk . If you live in or near New York City , it’s about a four-hour drive with traffic, or a few hours on a Jitney, making it an ideal summer destination to visit if you only have a few days to get away. There’s lots to do—from restaurants to beaches to shopping to bars—so you won’t run out of places to be and things to see. Book a stay at one of Duryea’s sunset cottages, then head to lunch right by the water at their restaurant (make sure to split the iconic Lobster Cobb Salad). For the chance of a celeb or influencer sighting, head to Surf Lodge , a popular outdoor bar with good music and even better sunset views. My girlfriends and I spend most of the weekend lounging on the beach, chatting nonstop, already planning our next trip back. — Meaghan Kenny , commerce editor

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

For my mother’s 70th birthday, we chose to stay at the Sea Pines Resort in South Carolina at one of the premier villas. We traveled with a large multi-generational group, millennials to baby boomers. The house was immaculately outfitted with a massive kitchen and lovely pool, and we were close enough to the beach that a group of us walked every morning for sunrise yoga. Breakfasts were a grazing affair, all of us getting up on our own schedule and pulling together whatever we felt like eating. One afternoon we took a private boat out to Daufuskie Island for a golf cart tour of this incredibly preserved piece of history. We spent a day on the beach, and one in Savannah . To keep everyone busy, we had a chef come in one night for a cooking lesson and he then prepared dinner for us all in the villa kitchen. We also brought in a local artist to lead us in a guided “paint and sip” experience. It truly was so special to have this time together and it helped me plan so many trips for clients looking for a similar “girls getaway” experience. — Rebecca Alesia , travel specialist for Condé Nast Traveler

Cartagena, Colombia

I recently traveled to Cartagena, Colombia, for a birthday trip with two friends. The South American city had been on my travel wish list for a while and did not disappoint. The city is filled with clothing boutiques, restaurants, and a very, very lively nightlife, so it’s impossible to be bored.

We stayed at a gorgeous Marriott Bonvoy Home and Villas property , with a staff that was not only available to answer any questions at anytime, but truly became like family by the time we left. The property is also a must-stay as it offers the rare opportunity to swim in a rooftop pool with views of the city, iconic churches, and buildings in the distance.

Girls trip in Cartagena Colombia

I highly recommend booking any curated experience with Jacada Travel , especially the private salsa lesson, which includes a history of Afro-Colombian culture and other dance movements from the region like champeta. They also offer private yacht excursions to the nearby turquoise waters of Rosario Islands, perfect for some beach time and cocktails with friends. Some of the best dishes that we enjoyed in Cartagena were by the staff at our villa, including traditional Colombian rice and tender roasted chicken. If you do decide to explore one of the city's restaurants, I highly recommend Norma Ristorante for its live music and amazing pasta dishes and grilled seafood. For drinks, don’t miss a lesson on Colombian rums paired with chocolates at El Arsenal: The Rum Box. Request a lesson with Koko, she's the best host. — Kristin Braswell , contributor and travel specialist for Condé Nast Traveler

Scottsdale, Arizona

I went to Scottsdale on a girl's trip in 2021, and the city will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was such a memorable destination, with enough to appeal to each of our interests. As design lovers, we got to soak in Frank Lloyd Wright's talent at Taliesin West and the midcentury-modern vibes of our hotel, Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows . Our favorite restaurant was a hidden gem inside the Fairmont Princess , La Hacienda . The highlight of our trip was definitely the spa at Well & Being Spa —it was a stunning little getaway with the best views. — Iona Brannon , contributor

Puglia, Italy

Street sign in Puglia

What could be better than a girls trip to Italy during the fall ? The crowds have dissipated, the rates have dropped and the weather is tepid and beautiful, especially in southern Italy. Puglia offers up coastal Italian eye candy of whitewashed villages, classic winding cobblestone streets, and turquoise Mediterranean waters. The interior has fertile rolling countryside with olive groves and vineyards. There’s an abundance of interesting cities to see and all are easily connected by train for day trips. We staged the headquarters of our girls trip at Naturalis Bio Resort & Spa, a small luxury hotel located in Salento, about a 25-minute drive from Lecce. It has a warm, earthy and nurturing vibe, ideal for a spa and wellness girls getaway. Our room had a spectacular extra-large sunken hot tub with a window overhead to see the sky above. Perfect to pair with a bottle of wine and added bubbles. The hospitality and service are warm and welcoming, and the food is artful, fresh, and delicious. A trip to the spa a must. I recommend a fun day trip into the port city of Otranto for boutique shopping, fresh seafood dining, and taking in the aquamarine waters of the Adriatic. — Jessica Avery , travel specialist for Condé Nast Traveler

While there’s nothing better than soaking up some good Miami sunshine or letting loose at the 305’s liveliest clubs, don’t be surprised if you leave this place in a serious food coma. Whether you’re in the mood for Caribbean, Cuban, or Ethiopian, Miami’s multicultural food scene is one of its highlights. My last escapade here with friends was on the heels of Caribbean Heritage Month, celebrated every June. There’s so much to do in Miami that when planning your itinerary, your besties might be torn on how to narrow it down. What activities and excursions can’t you do? Of course, Miami has a plethora of beaches where you can lay out or catch some waves, from Hobie Beach to the historic Virginia Key Beach Park. If you’re in the mood for a little retail therapy, you can hit up one of its many boutiques and shopping centers, like the Miami Design District. There’s practically a club on every block where you and your friends can dance the night away, so you can take your pick based on where you’re feeling the vibe. You can also get your creative wheels turning by checking out Miami’s art scene. Art Basel is one of the city's most popular annual exhibits, among several others. In terms of where to stay, Florida’s pink hotels can make you feel like you’re staying in one big Barbie house, so The Goodtime Hotel in Miami is my highest recommendation if you want to stick to the theme of your trip. — Johnaé De Felicis , contributor

I’ve been going to Antigua for over seven years now for all types of trips, but I really love it for a relaxing getaway with my girls. Antigua is the land of 360 degree beaches, so no matter where you are on the island, there’s a beach close by that is beautiful with clean sand and clear water. This makes Antigua an automatic go-to for me and my girls because whether we want to have a relaxing beach day, throw a beach fete, or hit a beachside workout, there are numerous options to do so throughout the island. Antigua has beautiful resorts, villas, and hotels. My go-to is Hodges Bay , which has a private island property reachable by a quick water taxi. For a more resort-central stay, Curtain Bluff has top of the line spa and restaurants to enjoy. Antigua also pairs the best restaurants with amazing views—my favorite is Sheer Rocks, which is perched on a beachside cliff. For the best seafood and authentic island vibes, Papa Zouk is the place to go. Out of all the islands I’ve traveled to, Antigua has the best and safest fetes and clubs; check out Vyce for a great night. — Sidnee Michelle Douyon , senior digital editor and host for Black Enterprise

Puerto Rico

To celebrate some big accomplishments in our friend group—from one friend completing her MD program to another finishing her band’s first tour—we gathered our now nationally-dispersed college crew for an adult spring break trip to Puerto Rico . Our itinerary struck the perfect balance of wild outdoor adventure, beachy relaxation, and giggly fun, with plenty of flexibility to tailor the experience toward any of these trip styles based on personal preferences. We loved how accessible it was to fly to San Juan from the US (not to mention how easy it was to get around by car or Uber when we got there), and that we didn't even need to pack our passports . Upon arriving from our respective cities, the six of us piled into a rental car and explored everything from the historic charm and boutique shops of Old San Juan to the tropical rainforest swimming holes and natural water slides (yes, we slid down actual waterfalls) of El Yunque National Forest . Highlights included night kayaking to see the sparkling bioluminescence, snorkeling with sea turtles at Escambrón Marine Park in San Juan, and sipping unique wine-based cocktails at one of the world's best bars: La Factoría . Airbnb and hotel hopping was the structure for our week-long stay, but my favorite was the idyllic Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve . Though these trips always seem to get harder and harder to plan as we get older, the pricelessness of a full heart, a recharged soul, and a little bit of a lost voice from laughing hard with the ladies is beyond worth it. — Alexandra Toto , contributor

Loudoun County, Virginia

Goodstone Inn garden

One of my favorite places for a girls trip is Virginia's wine country in Loudoun County. The acres and acres of vineyards lining the roads make for beautiful scenery while driving, and the food and drink scene is exceptional. One of my favorite wineries in the area is Greenhill Vineyards , which offers incredible views, wine tastings, and scrumptious bites to go with your glass of vino. Fun fact: The winery's sparkling wine was featured in gift bags at the 2016 Academy Awards. There are plenty of places to stay in Loudoun County, but I love Goodstone Inn (shown at right) where guests stay in boutique cottages that are nestled across 265 pristine acres on the hillside. Each cottage or house can accommodate two to eight people, so depending on the size of your squad, you'll all be able to stay in one private villa-style home complete with kitchens and private bathrooms. — Megan duBois, contributor

Colorado Historic Hot Springs Loop

One of my all-time favorite girls trips that can be dressed up or dressed down to be as outdoorsy (or not) as you wish is the Colorado Historic Hot Springs Loop. We fly into Denver and rent a car, or road trip over to the Centennial State and hop onto the open road to start the adventure. Popping over to Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort is easy, it sits on the banks of a burbling creek, and offers loads of adorable cabins, plus there are multiple, cheaper campgrounds nearby. For the more splurge-worthy trips, The Four Seasons in Vail just did a huge spa uplift and refreshed the treatments menu, and since it’s so centrally located, it’s an easy year-round stay in the mountains between Glenwood Springs and Steamboat Springs. No matter what your lodging style is, you’ll fall in love with the hot springs views (and lack of crowds) at Avalanche Ranch , as I did when I first visited in 2018. Book a month or two early, as they often sell out. Of course, the can't-miss feature of this trip is the hot springs, but one of my favorite off-highway stops is Brown Dog Pizza in Telluride, which sits on the main thoroughfare and boasts epic mountain views. Plus, if you’re going on a winter girls trip, nearly all of these locales offer incredible skiing access. — Emily Pennington , contributor

Philadelphia

I've spent New Years in Philadelphia a few times, as well as girls trips to this city in other times of the year. My girls and I have gone to some of the museums around town after cocktails and recreated a number of the paintings. Plus, there are truly great restaurants, interactive sensory exhibits, and a few speakeasies that we frequent when in the area. My recommendation on where to stay: W Philadelphia . It's been around for a while but there's been a change in managerial staff and exciting changes to the restaurant's menu; plus, the hotel itself has some of the best views in the city outside of the Sky Lounge. If you book ahead, try and get a corner room. — Shayna Conde , travel journalist

Start Your Day with a Scenic Drive

What’s more fun than a road trip with your best girlfriends? Start the day with a scenic drive that winds between lakes and forests, showing off all the reds, fiery oranges, and golden yellows of the fall leaves. One of the best scenic drives for leaf peeping is the Colorama Tour #1 , starting at the Visitor Center then taking you north on Highway 51 to Highway 70 West until you reach Kilawee Road. From there, look out for wildlife as you swing past Mercer Lake, Lower Kaubashine Lake, and beyond. Other great routes to take include Rustic Roads 58, 59, and 60.

Photo Ops Among Fall Foliage

On your Colorama Tour, don’t forget to stop and take advantage of all the photo ops among the fall foliage ! Get out to take a selfie of your group by a sparkling lake ringed with colorful trees, or snap a photo of the road covered with fall leaves lined with lush forests and even a waterfall or two . You’ll want to preserve this trip with lots of photos, and there’s no better photoshoot backdrop than Minocqua’s fall colors.

Unique Shopping Stops in Minocqua

Pick up a memento at one of the unique shops in Minocqua. Start browsing for a new fall outfit at Isla Collective , then take some Northwoods cabin vibes back to your home from A Step Up , find gifts and accessories at Flamingo Bay Boutique , and search for hidden gems at local antique shops. Don’t forget to stop by Boardwalk Ice Cream, Fudge, and Gelato to satisfy all your chocolate cravings and grab sweets for later!

Delicious Lunch Around Town

If you haven’t already filled up on fudge, grab a table at one of the restaurants around town. You can take your pick of anything from sushi at Kobe Sushi  or tacos at  Mavericks Restaurante Mexicano . There are lots of options that will please everyone in your group, and plenty of scenic places for a bite to eat.

Afternoon Lake Tour

No trip to Minocqua would be complete without time on the lake, and what better way to enjoy it with your best girlfriends than an afternoon lake tour? Minocqua Pontoon Cruises offers experiences like an afternoon nature tour, complete with a relaxing cruise around a local lake and the chance to spot local birdlife and wildlife. Afterwards, get warm with apple cider from a local cafe .

Dinner and Evening Relaxation

After a fun day of exploration, it’s time for dinner. For a unique experience, book a table at Norwood Pines Supper Club , where you can split classic dishes like cheese curds, walleye filet, or roast duck in an elegant but homey setting. In the evening, gather around a fire for some bonding time, and scroll through the photos of your memorable fall girl’s trip in Minocqua!

12 Best Girlfriend Getaways In Virginia To Take This Fall

From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Eastern Shore, here are the best girlfriend getaways in Virginia.

girlfriends getaway trip

BROWN W. CANNON III

The first step in planning any girls’ trip is figuring out where to go—though picking a destination everyone agrees on is often easier said than done. Does the group prefer a beach trip , a mountain getaway , or a city escape? Should the itinerary be low-key and flexible, or is it better to fill the days with scheduled fun and restaurant reservations?

Luckily, Virginia has a bit of everything , making it a great starting point as you begin to plot out your trip—whether you’re celebrating a bride, catching up with old friends, or simply spending some quality time with the ladies in your life. And if you’re trying to schedule a girls’ trip before the end of the year? Even better. Old Dominion is known for its crisp fall weather, extraordinary foliage, and a whole host of autumnal activities to keep everyone happy and entertaining.

Read on to discover the best girlfriend getaways in Virginia.

Charlottesville

GABRIELA HERMAN

Located in the heart of Virginia’s Wine Country, Charlottesville draws in oenophiles from across the South—as well as those with less experienced palettes who are just there to sip on a glass of wine and admire the stunning mountain views. With Charlottesville as your base camp, you can plan a whole day around the wineries in the area, hitting up classics like Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, King Family Vineyards , and Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard . If your group doesn’t want to worry about identifying a designated driver, consider booking a tour through a driving service like Blue Ridge Wine Excursions .

For a more restful trip with only a couple of your closest friends—think less wine, more reading—book a stay at The Clifton , a charming 20-room historic inn that embraces the idea of slow living.

A walkable downtown, antique stores, clothing boutiques, and a few of Virginia’s best hotels and resorts? Welcome to Middleburg, a small town with an impressive roster of girlfriend getaway-friendly pursuits. If your group prefers all things cozy, consider booking the Middleburg Cottage at The Red Fox Inn & Taven , one of the historic landmarks on E Washington St. The two-story, two-bedroom suite offers plenty of room to lounge and enjoy each other’s company. Don’t forget to spend some time outside, though. October in Middleburg means a calendar dotted with equestrian events, including the International Gold Cup and the Virginia Fall Races .

If some of your group lives in D.C.—and no one wants to venture too far away for the weekend—use Alexandria as your meeting point. Old Town Alexandria, a nationally designated historic district, is particularly perfect for this type of trip. The lively neighborhood is home to more than 200 independent restaurants and boutiques, and its waterfront location, Georgian and Victorian architecture, and cobblestone alleys are sure to charm everyone in your party. Alexandrians are also known to go all out with Halloween decorations, which adds an extra dose of festivity to your travels.

While a larger city like Richmond might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think “girlfriend getaway,” consider the fact that it would be nearly impossible to grow bored here. Art museums, history, architecture, breweries, greenspaces, and some of the best culinary experiences in Virginia can all be found in the capital. Come fall, you can also enjoy humidity-free hiking and incredible leaf peeping without leaving the city limits. Not to mention, Richmond International Airport is one of the more accessible airports in the state, giving the destination several more points if your group is traveling from further away.

Williamsburg

As autumn arrives in Virginia, grab your girlfriends and make your way to Williamsburg for the ultimate feel-good getaway. Yes, this city may be synonymous with college students and its 18th-century historical hub, but it’s also a place where you can fully embrace the magic of fall. There are ghost tours , haunted pub crawls , delicious seasonal treats at the farmers market in Merchant’s Square, and an abundance of foliage to be seen as you drive down Colonial Parkway. And if the itinerary calls for a bit of pampering? Schedule spa treatments at The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg .

ROBBIE CAPONETTO

The Shenandoah Valley is one of the most picturesque regions in Virginia, especially if you’re a fan of mountain scenes, flowing rivers, and quaint small towns. To experience all three at once, plan your next girls’ trip to Lexington. In between all of the outdoor activities the destination has to offer—hiking, fly fishing, and horseback riding, among them—make time to sample some local flavors. Fill up on sandwiches from Blue Sky Bakery , spend an afternoon at the Devils Backbone Brewing Company taproom, and get all dressed up for a meal at Haywood’s .

Washington, D.C.

If you’re planning a girlfriend getaway where the food should take top priority, look no further than Washington, Virginia—not to be confused with Washington, D.C. It’s here where you’ll find The Inn at Little Washington and the only 3-Michelin-starred restaurant south of NYC. When the group isn’t dining on Chef Patrick O’Connell’s wondrous creations, you can fill your days with visits to nearby wineries ( Little Washington Winery or Quièvremont Vineyard & Winery ), leaf peeping along the Skyline Drive, and shopping in nearby Sperryville.

Virginia Beach

Prime sunbathing weather may be long over by the time fall rolls around, but don’t count Virginia Beach out just yet. This time of year is ideal for groups who love the idea of renting a beachfront house and spending the entirety of the trip reading, preparing home-cooked meals, and swapping their favorite stories. Plus, autumn sunsets and sunrises are pretty spectacular, making each morning and evening that much more memorable.

courtesy of Virginia Tourism

Country music and girlfriend getaways go hand in hand, and there’s nowhere better in Virginia to bring them together than Bristol. The sibling city of Bristol, Tennessee—the town’s main thoroughfare, State Street, is divided by the state lines—Bristol, Virginia can claim the title of "The Birthplace of Country Music,” and its museum of the same name is open six days a week on Country Music Way. For even more country music-themed activities, stop by Cheap Thrills to browse its record selection and bring the whole crew to see a show at The Paramount . Cap off the weekend with a luxe stay at Nicewonder Farm & Vineyards , one of the South’s best hotels .

Similar to an off-season beach trip, a fall lake getaway can be the peak of relaxation. So if lazy mornings, crisp evenings, and an open-ended gameplan align with your group’s preferences, start making the arrangements for a trip to Lake Anna. Located 60 miles northwest of Richmond and about 25 miles southwest of Fredericksburg, Lake Anna is a year-round destination with hiking trails, bed and breakfasts, and a selection of bars and breweries—including Mineral Brewing , Cooling Pond Brewery , and Lake Anna Taphouse —if that strikes your fancy.

Cape Charles

Robbie Caponetto

Simultaneously elegant, charming, and welcoming, Cape Charles is one of the best getaways for friend groups who have a “choose your own adventure” mindset. Some members of the group may want to wake up early and tackle the walkable shopping district; others may prefer to sleep in, grab some goodies from Mason Avenue Bakery , and spend the entirety of the day bundled up on Cape Charles Beach. As far as accommodations, larger parties may find more success with renting a home for the duration of their stay, while smaller groups might enjoy the conveniences of Hotel Cape Charles .

Hot Springs

For the ultimate relaxing, no-plans-needed girlfriend getaway, bring your group to Hot Springs, Virginia—specifically, The Omni Homestead Resort . The property is gorgeous throughout the year, but it really shines in the fall when the red, orange, and yellow foliage plays foil to the various outdoor activities: golf, tennis, and zipline tours. Of course, “the Homestead” is also known for its natural hot springs, and you’ll be able to soak in the storied waters at the Warm Springs Pools. The only problem? There’s a very high chance checkout will arrive a little too soon.
