Tata Safari Adventure Persona Review By Aged Parents of Owner
It's been more than a couple of months since Tata Motors launched the all-new Safari in India, with its prices starting from INR 14.69 lakh, going up to INR 21.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). One of the biggest talking points about the 2021 Safari has been the new Adventure Persona variant - the top-of-the-line variant that comes with unique exterior and interior alterations which really make it stand out. Here we have an owner's review of the Tata Safari Adventure Persona while it was taken for a weekend road trip. Let's find out the owner's detailed account of his experience with the new Safari in its Adventure Persona avatar.
One of the highlights of the Safari Adventure Persona is that it is offered with both 6- and 7-seater configurations. In this case, the owner has specced his Safari with captain seats for the middle row for a 6-seater configuration. Captain seats are obviously designed for a premium and comfortable riding experience and that's exactly what the owner's parents seated in the middle row have acknowledged about the Safari. With a wheelbase of 2741mm, the Safari has plenty of legroom for the middle row passengers. That's particularly beneficial for people with joint problems as they can stretch out comfortably.

The other most notable thing about this 6-seater configuration are the captain seats themselves. The benefit of captain seats are that they come with individual arm rests and the seat recline can also be adjusted as per your personal preference. The seats are also well contoured and cushioned so that they can hold the passengers in place and prevent unnecessary movements at higher speeds. With tons of space and premium and comfortable seating, the second row of the Safari does feel like a special place to be in. The panoramic sunroof further enhances the airiness and premium feel of the cabin.
The owner, however, did note that the cooling of the air conditioning was not up to the mark. This video was filmed on a hot day and the owner feels the air conditioning could have been better. However, this could be due to the fact that the glass sunroof was kept open with sunlight directly entering the cabin. The owner also notes the excellent ride and handling balance of the Safari. This is something we have loved even with the Tata Harrier and the same strengths have been carried over to the Safari as well. You can just hammer down bad roads in the Safari with no drama at all and yet, the SUV remains composed, confident and sure-footed at higher speeds or when negotiating sharp turns.
There are no mechanical changes on the Safari Adventure Persona over the regular Safari. It is powered by the Harrier's Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The Adventure Persona is available with both the 6-speed manual and the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. It also comes equipped with three ESP-based off-road modes - normal, rough, and wet - as well as three drive modes - eco, city and sport. The owner noted an average fuel economy of 12 kmpl in the city and 16 kmpl on the highway, which is pretty decent for an SUV of this size.

Tata Safari: Variants, features and prices explained in detail
Tata has launched the all-new 2021 Safari and prices start at Rs 14.69 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi for the base variant. The Safari with its third row of seats, disc brakes on all wheels, connected car features and more demands between Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh (Rs 1.35 for one variant) more than the Harrier and that’s some pretty aggressive pricing at Tata’s end. There are seven variants to choose from namely the XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, XZ+ and the Adventure Persona. Here’s a deep dive into which variant gets what to help you better make a decision.
Before we begin, here’s what you can expect from the Safari regardless of the variant: the 2-litre FCA -sourced diesel engine that puts out 168bhp and 350Nm. The manual is available on all variants, while the automatic is available on the XM, XZ, XZ+ and the Adventure Persona. And yes, as we have reported in the past, the Safari will only be available as a front-wheel drive SUV. All wheels get disc brakes and the suspension setup is also identical throughout the range. Safety features like ABS, EBD, ESP, corner stability control, hill hold control, dual airbags, roll over mitigation, and traction control are standard showing Tata’s commitment to safety. In addition to this, projector headlamps, roof rails, the boss mode that frees up room in the second row, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering, power windows, three rows of seating with a total of seven seats and charging ports in the second and third row are standard across the variants.
Watch our video where we pit the all-new Safari against its predecessors.
Tata Safari XE: The XE is the base variant and gets the most basic in terms of features. It gets all the aforementioned features, runs on 16-inch alloys, and is priced at Rs 14.69 lakh ex-showroom. Notably, this variant misses out on the sound system and touchscreen infotainment screen. The XE is only with the manual transmission and as a seven-seater.
Tata Safari XM/XMA: XM and XMA variants are second in the line-up and a step up on the XE. For starters, you get driving modes namely Eco, City and Sport. The variant sees the introduction of a seven-inch infotainment system and a six speaker (four speakers, two tweeters) setup. The XM/XMA gets steering mounted controls, follow me home headlamps, front fog lamps and a rear parking sensor with display. The driver’s seat gets height adjustability. Like the XE, this variant also gets the 16-inch wheel setup. Both automatic and manual transmission options are available on this variant, making this the most affordable automatic in the Safari range. The XM is priced at Rs 16 lakh while the automatic XMA variant is priced at Rs 17.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Safari XT: The XT variant upsizes its wheels to 18-inches and fattens up the features list with rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and dual function LED DRLs with indicators. On the inside, the XT variant gets an eight speaker (four speakers and four tweeters) setup, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, push button start, Tata’s iRA connected technology, reverse parking camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system and the driver’s seat gets height and lumbar adjustment. This variant and lower get cloth upholstery. While, you get leatherette upholstery from the XZ variant onwards. The XT variant is available only with the manual transmission option and costs Rs 17.45 lakh (ex-showroom). If you’re looking for value, this variant is the one to pick!
Tata Safari XT+: The XT+ variant is identical to the XT variant but gets a panoramic sunroof added to the features list. Bear in mind however, should you opt for the panoramic sunroof, you lose the functional purpose of the roof rails.
Tata Safari XZ/XZA: The XZ variants get white leatherette upholstery, a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, a bigger 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch semi digital instrument cluster. In terms of performance, apart from the driving modes this variant also gets a terrain response system with three modes, Normal, Rough and Wet. It also gets hill descent control and an electronic parking brake. The speaker setup in this variant gets more oomph with a JBL setup with four speakers, four tweeters, a subwoofer and an amplifier. Safety features are also more comprehensive with a six-airbag setup (over the dual-airbag setup in lower variants) and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The driver’s seat on the XZ variant is electronically adjustable six ways. Visibility is also aided with higher performance Xenon HID projector headlamps. The network antennas are also all concealed neatly in a single shark fin on the roof. The XZ variant is available in both manual and automatic transmission options and are priced at Rs 19.15 and Rs 21.15 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.
Tata Safari XZ+ and XZA+: The XZ+ gets everything in the XZ variant plus a panoramic sunroof. It is also the only variant to get the option captain seats instead of the bench in the second row. Like the XZ, the XZ+ is also available in manual and automatic transmission options and costs Rs 19.99 lakh and 21.25 lakh ex-showroom, respectively.
Tata Safari Adventure Persona: The Adventure Persona variant is a special edition Safari that is based on the XZ+/XZA+ variants with a few cosmetic tweaks. For starters, it gets an exclusive Tropical Mist paint finish, along with blacked out grilles and alloys. In essence, all things chrome on the XZ+ are now black. The changes continue on the inside with the interiors and upholstery now being brown instead of white. The options and feature are identical to the XZ+, meaning this too can be had with a manual or an automatic transmission. It can also be optioned with captain seats in the second row. All of this comes at a premium of Rs 20,00 over the XZ+ variants, and will set you back Rs 20.20 lakh for the manual and Rs 21.45 lakh (ex-showroom) for the automatic.
The all-new Safari is the latest SUV offering from the folks at Tata and bookings have been open for a while now with deliveries expected to begin soon. If you want to know how the Safari fares against its rivals in terms of its price, we have done a story on that as well!
