3 students hurt in head-on crash with bus in Southside Bethlehem neighborhood (UPDATE)

Three students were injured Wednesday when an SUV collided head-on with a school bus in a Southside Bethlehem neighborhood, school district officials said.

The accident happened just after 2 p.m. Wednesday along East Fourth Street near Edwards Street in the vicinity of Donegan Elementary School. Bethlehem Area School District officials posted on X that a total of 14 students were on board the school bus from Executive Education Academy Charter School when the bus was struck.

While district officials initially stated six of the students were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries, city police said Thursday afternoon just three were transported. Injuries were minor, Bethlehem Police Capt. Nicholas P. Lechman told lehighvalleylive.com.

At approximately 2:10 PM, bus 161 was hit head-on on E. 4th St. near Edwards St. Fourteen Executive Academy Charter students were on board. Six were taken to the hospital; injuries unknown. Authorities are contacting parents. — BASD (@BethlehemAreaSD) August 28, 2024

Both the bus driver and SUV driver reported minor injuries, however, neither was taken to the hospital, Lechman said.

Surveillance video from the school bus, as well as witness accounts indicate the accident happened as the SUV driver was heading west on Fourth Street and for an unknown reason, crossed over the double-yellow line and into the school bus’s path of travel, Lechman said.

“We don’t believe cell phone use was a factor,” he said.

The SUV driver was cited for reckless driving, careless driving, driving on roadways laned for traffic, and driving on right side of roadway. No violations were noted for the school bus driver.

Both the school bus and SUV required towing from the scene. Students on the bus were from the Executive Academy Charter School, city police said.

Parents were notified Wednesday afternoon by district officials, the X posting stated. Another bus was dispatched to bring the rest of the children on the route back home, WFMZ reported.

The charter school is located at 555 Union Blvd. in Allentown.

Do I need reservations or timed tickets?

How long are general admission tickets good for.

Crayola Experience general admission tickets purchased directly from Crayola Experience are valid for one year. You can use them at any time. When you are ready to visit, just bring your tickets to the access area of the attraction.

Tickets purchased from other sources and 3rd party vendors may have different expiration periods. If tickets are purchased from another vendor, please check the expiration on your ticket.  

My ticket or Annual Pass has expired, can you provide an extension?

Can i use my tickets at any of the crayola experience locations, i lost/forgot my annual pass. can i still gain entry today, do you offer group rates, how long should i plan on staying there, where can i park.

Crayola Experience Easton offers two entrances to access the attraction.  One entrance is right off the intersection of Pine Street and South 3 rd Street and the other is located just off Centre Square in the heart of downtown Easton.

Is re-entry allowed?

Can i bring food and beverages into the attraction, are strollers allowed.

Stollers are permitted inside the attraction. They must be smaller than 31 in. (79 cm) wide and 52 in. (132 cm) long. Stroller wagons of any size are prohibited. 

We conduct security bag checks and stroller screenings prior to entering the Crayola Experience attraction.

Is there any place to eat lunch?

How should the kids dress, what is your service animal policy, are there hand sanitizer stations available.

Y es. In fact, we’ve added additional hand sanitizer stations throughout the attraction. These stations are checked regularly, but please contact a team member if you see one that needs to be refilled. We also encourage guests to use our restroom facilities frequently to wash their hands for 20 seconds or more.

Is there a Crayola retail store?

Easton Coach Company offers full refunds for cancellations made at least 30 days before departure. We recognize that emergencies happen, and certain situations necessitate canceling a trip 30 days before departure. We are happy to discuss your specific situation with you and negotiate a partial refund depending on the circumstances. There is no minimum passenger requirement to charter any of our vehicles. If you would like to charter a motorcoach but have a smaller group, the motorcoach sales team can help pair two or more small groups or market the trip to single riders to fill the vacancies on the motorcoach. This will help make travel more affordable. Please contact the motorcoach sales team if you are interested in this or have any questions regarding vehicle selection for your specific group charter.

Our motorcoaches can accommodate up to 57 passengers. Minibusses have a passenger capacity of 21, and trolleys can accommodate between 26-30 passengers. Wheelchair lift-equipped motorcoaches and trolleys are available.

The customer determines pickup and drop-off location(s); however, groups are responsible for obtaining permission to use their requested pickup spots.
