This will be Jemaine Clement and Brett McKenzie’s first tour in two years since co-headlining 2014’s Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour. 

The Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour kicks off June 11 at Cleveland’s State Theatre and wraps July 27 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. It stops at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., Newport Folk Festival and New York’s Central Park Summerstage as well.

“I’m thrilled to get back on the road with over half the original band,” McKenzie said in a statement. 

The tour will include new material that Clement and McKenzie have been working on and will showcase exclusively at these live shows, according to a press release. 

Last year Clement told  Billboard  that he and his bandmate had been talking about a tour in late 2015 and noted the new material. “I really don’t like the studio part of music,” he said. “I more enjoy playing live and letting others take care of the recording.”

Flight of the Conchords announce tour dates

Flight of the Conchords (aka Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie) will return to North America. this summer. The “Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour,” is their first since co-headlining 2014’s “Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour.” Jemaine and Bret have new material in the works, which they’ll showcase exclusively at these shows. The “Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour” begins June 11th in Cleveland, OH at State Theatre and ends July 27th in Los Angeles, CA at The Greek Theatre.

Bret had this to say of the upcoming tour: “I’m thrilled to get back on the road with over half the original band.”

The Conchords have also partnered with the charity organization Global Citizen for this tour. Amy Freeland, Senior Manager of Global Citizen Tickets, had this to say of the union, “We are so excited that Flight of the Conchords has joined the Global Citizen Tickets program for 2016! Offering two tickets to each show on the upcoming “Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour” will engage and motivate Global Citizens across the U.S. to take action to end extreme poverty by 2030.”

Bret and Jemaine first met in 1996 at Victoria University Wellington. Jemaine vividly remembers the first time he met Bret; “he was wearing a hat”. Bret doesn’t remember meeting Jemaine, but says it was unforgettable.

They were both acting in a University Drama Club production called Body Play. Bret and Jemaine were put in a group of five men to create a short theatrical piece about male body issues. The most memorable part of the show was the costumes. They wore nothing but skin coloured bike shorts giving the audience the illusion that they were naked. From that short vignette the group of five developed another pseudo nude show called So, You’re A Man. They performed to sell-out audiences in Wellington andAuckland, and were then invited to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

They flew to Australia for a one month season at a Melbourne comedy club called The Last Laugh. The group couldn’t believe they were being paid to perform and Bret blew his entire first pay cheque on a pair of leather pants.Unfortunately the Australians didn’t appreciate the show like they had in New Zealand, and the season was cancelled after one week.

In 1998 Bret and Jemaine decided to start a band. With a combined knowledge of three chords on the guitar they set about jamming out. The first song was Foux Du FaFa, (two chords) and they called themselves Moustache. The four piece band had Bret on casio-tone, Jemaine on guitar, and their friends Toby Laing and Tim Jaray on trumpet and double bass. They performed their one song at the Wellington Fringe Festival late night club and members of the audience were said to have been “mildly impressed” by the act.

After the encouraging feedback the pair continued to write songs in their living room, subjecting their six flatmates to relentless three chord jams. After several weeks they knew four chords and Jemaine got them a gig to perform at the Thursday night Comedy Club. On the afternoon of the gig they realized they needed a band name. The initial list of names included Roxygen Supply, Albatrocity, and Tanfastic. But the final name was chanced upon in a series of events that went something like this: Jemaine went to the bathroom and noticed the flat toilet was called the Concorde, he returned from the bathroom to suggest the name Conchord, and Bret said “What about Flight of the Conchords”, and Jemaine said “okay”, and Bret said “okay “, and Jemaine said “okay then” and Bret said “We should go to the gig, we’re late”.

That night was their first performance as Flight of the Conchords. Bret and Jemaine were so nervous they couldn’t speak between songs. Despite their performance anxiety the crowd of eleven people enjoyed their gig and were heard clapping and talking amongst themselves.

Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie Announces New Album Songs Without Jokes, 2022 Tour

Plus, hear the lead single "A Little Tune"

Bret McKenzie , of the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords , is stepping out on his own, and it’s no laughing matter. The New Zealand multi-hyphenate has announced his debut solo album, Songs Without Jokes , out August 26th via Sub Pop, and mapped out an international tour.

Songs Without Jokes was recorded at East West Studios and United Recordings, with McKenzie co-producing alongside Mickey Petralia. After an extensive body of work including two FOTC studio albums and songs written for the Muppets movies and  The Simpsons , McKenzie set out to make music without any expectations.

“Post-Conchords, I’d been working on songs for the Muppets films, and during a session I had the thought that it would be fun someday to work on some songs that weren’t for someone else, that don’t have to tell a story or be funny or continue the narrative plot, checking all the boxes for the character in the movie,” he said in a press release. “I thought it’d be fun to do a record like that, something different.”

As an appetizer of what’s to come, McKenzie has shared the lead single, “A Little Tune,” and its accompanying music video. Taking inspiration from artists like Randy Newman, the track is an unabashedly earnest ode to love featuring lyrics like, “Here’s a little song to let you know I love you/ Just a little tune to let you know I care.” Check out the clip below.

In support of  Song Without Jokes , McKenzie is headed out on a fall tour with a seven-piece band. It kicks off on September 2nd with a string of dates in New Zealand before heading over to the UK. The North American leg begins on October 14th and includes cities like New York, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin before wrapping on November 20th.

Flight of the Conchords last released their 2019 Live in London album, which was recorded at the duo’s 2018 HBO special . As for McKenzie, he helped  The Simpsons piss off Morrissey last year by writing “Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (And Possibly You),” one of the songs performed by Quilloughby, the Benedict Cumberbatch-voiced character parodying the former Smiths singer.

Flight of the Conchords announce tour

It’s business time: Folk-comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have announced their return to stages across America. The playfully titled Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour will hit nearly 30 locations across the country in June and July and marks the first time the band has toured since co-headlining 2013’s traveling Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival with Dave Chappelle.

“I’m thrilled to get back on the road with over half the original band,” Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie joked in a press release. He’ll be joined by fellow New Zealander Jermaine Clement for the tour, which has stops planned at marquee locations including Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre (July 12) and New York’s Central Park Summerstage (July 24).

McKenzie and Clement formed Flight of the Conchords in 1998 when they were college roommates, but the group didn’t break through to the mainstream until 2007. The group’s EP from that year, The Distant Future , won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. Flight of the Conchords , the band’s HBO comedy series , debuted in 2007 and was nominated for seven Emmys over its two seasons.

Flight Of The Conchords Is Getting The Band Back Together For A Reunion Tour

New Zealand’s musical comedians — or, musicomedians, if you will — Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement have spent too much time apart. The pair, collectively performing as hilariously bumbling folk duo Flight of the Conchords, attracted a cult following for their deadpan personae through a series of albums, tours, and even a show on HBO during the late ’00s. (The show also introduced the world to an odd comedic talent with an unmistakable voice going by the name of Kristen Schaal.) Their tunes toyed with musical genre in playfully clever ways, from a  Serge Gainsbourg parody of French 101 vocab to a sexy-time slow jam about rote, joyless weekday lovemaking . In the grand pantheon of musical musicians, they are slightly below “Weird Al” Yankovic — though, aren’t we all? — and slightly above Demetri Martin. But since the show wrapped up in 2009, they haven’t collaborated, save for a jointly penned charity single in 2012.

But diehard Conchordheads have reason to celebrate today. In a post on their official Facebook page, McKenzie and Clement announced that they’d reunite for a string of tour dates this summer in character as Flight of the Conchords. They’ll hit New York’s SummerStage concert series, the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, and the Newport Folk Festival, among many others listed below. Much has transpired since they last paired up: McKenzie nabbed himself a Best Original Song Oscar for his ballad “Man or Muppet” from 2011’s  The Muppets  film, and Clement won critical raves last year for  What We Do in the Shadows , his ingenious vampire mockumentary co-created with frequent collaborator and New Zealand countryman Taika Waititi. How this may change their dynamic or material has yet to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Reunited really  does  feel so good.

The hilarious New Zealand duo gained popularity from their self-titled show on HBO. It's hard to separate the Bret and Jemaine in real life from their characters, Bret and Jemaine, and not just because they share names. The two sing their songs in character, to the riotous laughter of fans old and new. Flight of the Conchords' first EP, "The Distant Future," is a gem that includes live performances of some of the band's most popular songs. The LP "Flight of the Conchords" rehashes some of those tracks and includes most of the songs from the first season of their television show. The second LP "I Told You I Was Freaky" is again chock-full of songs as they were performed on the show. Flight of the Conchords partly parody songs, but what is more incredible is the way they parody musical genres as a whole. David Bowie parodies belie an insight into 80s pop, and when the Conchords take on rap, you'll never know what hit you. (It might be the Hiphopopotamus or the Rhymenocerous.) The lyrics are always fun, jaunty, and irreverent, and there's nothing more fun than trying to memorize all of them. Typically, Bret and Jemaine perform in small venues. Their show is part comedy routine, part concert, and part sing-along for those who know them best. The pair emanates energy as they play the "mom guitar" and "dad guitar" as well as a variety of other instruments. It's a delight to hear favorites from the show, like "Business Time" and "Albi the Racist Dragon" performed live, especially since the latter isn't included on any of their albums.

I have long loved Flight of the Conchords. New Zealand’s‘ almost award-winning fourth-most-popular folk duo’ is both hilarious and musically talented. So there’s no way I could have given up the opportunity to see Bret and Jermaine perform at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California last September.

Thousands gathered at the outdoor arena to witness the pair’s blend of comedy lyrics and parody performance style. As we chatted excitedly amongst ourselves, I began to wonder how the two, with their heavy lyrical focus, would be able to fill the venue. I needn’t have worried. Bret and Jermaine’s aptitude for comedy performance meant that any stage additions would have been frivolous.

Of course, we were treated to classics from the HBO TV series. The Flight of the Conchords’ parody of the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘West End Girls’ just gets funnier live. I simply could not contain myself after Jermaine’s deadpan declaration that ‘you know you’re not in high finance considering second hand underpants.’ The rest of the crowd were equally appreciative, rapping along to Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros.’ What a priceless sound!

For me, the highlight of the show was when the pair unexpectedly burst into a cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep.’ The pair’s mock-earnest acoustic cover captured the almost-ridiculous angst of the ’90s outsider anthem.

Never pass up the opportunity to see Flight of the Conchords. They posess the rare combination of comedic skill and serious musical talent.

These 2 guys are talented musically but most of all they are funny. Their comedy style is very silly and mocking towards many different subjects but they act serious about it which makes their show even more funny. I really had a wonderful time. My wife and I laid on a blanket in the GA grassy knoll and had a bottle of wine I snuck into the venue. I couldn't have asked for a better night with her.

Flight of the Conchords at St. Augustine Amphitheatre was absolutely hilarious. Growing up i loved Flight of the Conchords, so actually getting see them come to my hometown was an amazing experience. Brett, and Jemaine were excellent musicians, and put on a brilliant performance, dubbed in with improvisational bits here and there which really created the magic.

Great show! These guys are really strong entertainers. They played most of their classics as well as some really strong new material. My only complaint is that they didn't play hiphopapotamus. Other than that, really loved it!

Hilarious as always! Opener started RIGHT on time, so don't show up late! The guys really know how to put on a show and keep you excited about songs you've probably heard before, but also some you may not have!

Gig cancelled due to one of them having a broken arm. Both gigs are rescheduled for June. Check out their website for dates. Dunno what else to say but I have to use 30 words for some reason

Amazing and hilarious. These guys have been my favorites for a while now, if you haven't yet, make sure to check out their old tv show. Best part was the recorder jam.

Flight of the Conchords Announce Tour

Earlier this month, New Zealand musical comedy duo Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, aka  Flight of the Conchords , announced that they'd be playing the Newport Folk Festival  in Rhode Island, igniting rumors of a full-fledged tour. Today, the duo have confirmed a full North American trek, which they've dubbed the "Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour." What's more, they'll be road-testing new material. "I’m thrilled to get back on the road with over half the original band," McKenzie joked in a press release. He and Clement have yet to release a follow-up to 2009's  I Told You I Was Freaky , which was released just before the group first called it quits. In 2012, Flight of the Conchords put out a charity single, " Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That) ," and embarked on their first Australian tour. Last year,  The Guardian  reported that they were working on a musical film; Clement told the publication that the project was still "a couple years away, at least."

Flight of the Conchords' upcoming tour is presented in partnership with Global Citizen , a nonprofit devoted to fighting global poverty. The organization will offer two tickets to each stop on the trek.

Flight of the Conchords have added more dates to their UK and Ireland tour.

Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie will now also perform nine additional dates in March and two in April, including an extra date at London's O2 Arena.

The tour will begin with a three-night stand in Portsmouth at the Guildhall and take in new shows in York, Milton Keynes and Dublin.

Fans were left bitterly disappointed after the first run of shows appeared to sell out within seconds of tickets going on sale.

They quickly appeared on secondary ticketing websites for massively inflated prices, and the band's name trended on social media as fans asked them to address the issue.

Flight of the Conchords and their representatives have also said they have attempted to tackle secondary ticketing sites and have gone to efforts to thwart touts.

Tickets are no longer transferrable and the purchaser must show a photo ID to pick up tickets they bought online, a statement said.

1) Make sure you are ready and waiting with the web page up at least five minutes before 9am.

2) Do not let your computer, phone or whatever device holds the key to your happiness run out of battery.

3) Register your details with the website you are booking from in advance, if you can, but don’t panic if you haven’t left enough time as your tickets will be held while you fill out your information

4) Check how many tickets you are allowed to buy in one purchase. If you try to buy more than the limited number, your booking may be cancelled without notice, meaning no-one gets to go.

5) Get your friends to try too, but stay in contact in case you all succeed and end up with a bunch of tickets you didn’t want. If you do need to sell any on, do so at face value. No-one likes a tout.

6) Be patient and avoid refreshing or switching between browsers. Stick with one tab and have some faith! Be prepared to wait for an hour to get tickets.

Flight of the Conchords add new shows to rescheduled UK tour dates

They're coming back...

Flight of The Conchords have added another show to their rescheduled UK tour dates, after a recent injury forced them to postpone the shows.

The New Zealand comedy duo, comprised of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, halted their March and April tour of the UK after McKenzie injured his hand falling down the stairs.

“Unfortunately I’ve broken two bones in my hand today in a very rock ‘n’ roll injury – falling down some stairs”, he wrote at the time.

“The doctors have informed me that I won’t be able to perform for several weeks. I’m sorry not to be able to do these upcoming shows but I’m looking forward to coming back and finishing the tour when I have two fully functioning hands.”

Now, it’s been announced that they’ll play another show at London’s Eventim Apollo on July 1, along with the rest of their rescheduled dates across the UK this June and July. See a full list of new shows below with the new show highlighted in bold.  Original tickets for the March dates remain valid for corresponding dates.
