Pine Tree Trail is the longest and most challenging trail of Fraser’s Hill. This trail is pretty popular among local hiking enthusiasts. The length of this trail is 5 km above sea level,  and it takes nearly 5 to 8 hours to climb up.

To reach the top of the Pine Tree Trail, you must face many ups and downs of the hill. This shape of the terrain makes hiking most challenging. However, you will get facilities like stairs and ropes to help you down the track in this forest.

But the splendid view of the hilltop will make you forget all the hustle. And once you reach the top, you can relax and enjoy the refreshing atmosphere of Pine Tree Trail. The hilltop view also gives you many iconic photos to capture.

If you’re a beginner or you’ve come with your family and don’t want to climb any challenging trail, then Hemmant Trail is best for you. This trail is fit for jungle trekking and much more accessible than any other trail in Fraser’s Hill.

To cover the whole Hemmant Trail, you only need 30 minutes as it has only a distance of 1 kilometre. In this forest area, you can experience the serene beauty of nature.

3. Bird Watching

''Bird Watching' 'Fraser Hill Bird Interpretive Center

Bird watching is always an incredible activity that you can do on vacation. Malaysia has numerous rainforests and highlands that will give you bird watching experience. But Bukit Fraser is one of the most popular bird-watching destinations among them, especially in Peninsular Malaysia.

The core reason for being the first-class bird-watching destination is Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race and Fraser’s Hill Bird Interpretive center .

Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race

Frasers-Hill-International-Bird-Race

Bukit Fraser hosts the International Bird Race every year, and thousands of visitors come here only to watch this bird race. Even people from the neighbouring countries come to Bukit Fraser to watch the race. It is pretty well known among locals as well as foreigners.

Besides the bird race, people also participate in the bird photography contest and photography exhibition . This program is held for two days in the early part of the year.

Fraser Hill Bird Interpretive Center

Fraser-Hill-Bird-Interpretive-Center

Fraser’s Hill Bird Interpretive center is the soul of this highland destination. Whenever you take a vacation in Bukit Fraser, you must not miss the Bird center as it is a gallery of local as well as migratory bird species.

You can become acquainted with nearly 250 species of birds, including doves, eagles, hornbills, pheasants, and many other endemic species. A lot of migratory birds from Japan, China, and Russia come to Fraser’s Hill during a specific season to escape from the freezing winter and find some pasture. The Bird center allows visitors from 10 am to 7 pm, and you need no extra fee to get entry.

4. Archery & Horse riding @ The Paddock

The Paddock

Horse riding is quite exciting and traditional. Moreover, it is one of the must-do activities in Bukit Fraser. The Paddock Fraser Hill offers opportunities to those who have a craving for equestrian activities.

Under the supervision of a certified trainer, you can ride a horse in a controlled atmosphere. It will also give you a stunning view of the surroundings.

Bukit Fraser gives a second chance to the retired racehorses to live their lives in peace. Basically, at the Paddock, all the horses that are used for riding are retired racehorses. And the best part is you can ride those horses at a very cheap price, RM9.00 for adults and RM6.50 for children.

Besides horse riding, the Paddock also entertains with archery for those of you who like mild activities. Because not everyone has enthusiasm for horse riding and people might look for other activities that are less challenging. The charge fee for archery is also very reasonable as you can have ten arrows for only RM11.00.

5. Boating @ Allan’s Water

Allan's Water

Allan’s Water is a small lake that has been converted into a recreational park, and it has opened its door to the visitors to give an experience of paddle boating. It is the only lake in Fraser’s Hill that can give you a boating experience with a paddle boat run by two persons.

During boating, you can also feed the fish that live in this pond. The fish are very calm and friendly. To get a paddle boat for 15 minutes, you need to pay RM10.00. There is a counter where you can book boats, and it also comes with safety jackets.

If you think boating is the only activity that you can do at Allan’s Water, then you are wrong! It also has Zorbing, that giant water ball with which you can play. The waterball fee is RM15, and you can play only for 10 minutes at this price.

Meanwhile, many visitors come here to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere of the lakeside. The green trees and the sound of birds add a natural peace to this place.

6. Play Golf @ Fraser’s Hill Golf Club

Fraser's Hill Golf Club

How about playing golf at 1524 metres above sea level? If you want to have this experience, you must opt for the Royal Fraser’s Hill Golf Club . It is situated just opposite the Clock Tower and has the fame of being one of the earliest golf courses in Malaysia.

Although Bukit Fraser Royal Golf Club has only nine holes, don’t judge the course by its small size. Compared to other golf courses, this one has pretty challenging sections to engage you. Because of its cool temperature and relatively tough surface, you will find it difficult to play golf.

The best time to come here for golfing is during the weekdays as this place is less crowded on weekdays. The late morning makes the weather most suitable for playing golf.

The golf club has no buggy service, so you have to walk if you’re willing to visit each hole. But I can assure you that the beautiful surrounding forest scenery will not make you tired to walk throughout the golf course.

In case you feel tired and hungry, there is a small café that will offer you tea and snacks with a terrace view.

7. Explore Jeriau Waterfalls

Jeriau-Waterfalls

The waterfall is one of the most incredible gifts of nature, and no one of us wants to miss a single chance to admire the enchanting beauty of a waterfall. Here at Bukit Fraser, you can explore the beauty of Jeriau Waterfall though it is 4 km away from the main town.

Within 30 minutes, you can get to the Jeriau Waterfall by hiking. If you have kids with you and you’re anxious about whether it is safe for kids or not? Don’t worry! Jeriau Waterfall forms a shallow pool that has just enough quantity of water you need to bathe safely with kids.

Apart from taking a dip into the cool water, you can also get some rest at the nearby bench and set a picnic mat in the picnic area.

Avoid visiting the waterfall during the monsoon season from November to January. The rain is too heavy that the water turns murky in this season.

Note: Jeriau Waterfalls closed until further notice due to recent landslide

8. Spend a Night @ the Fraser Hill Smokehouse

Fraser Hill Smokehouse

Fraser Hill Smokehouse or Ye Olde Smokehouse , whatever you call it, is one of the best attractions in Bukit Fraser that will give you the old-world English vibe. It is a boutique hotel and restaurant and probably the earliest hotel available since 1937.

The restaurant serves some traditional and authentic English-Asian cuisine like Beef Wellington, Sunday Roast, Lamb Shank, and many more. But what you must try at the Smokehouse is the English tea and scones.

During weekends, it is so hard to get a schedule for afternoon tea as this place gets too busy. And if you decide to stay here for the night, try to book the hotel early because it has only 14 rooms and suites available.

9. Be Witness of Fascinating English-Style Bungalows

English-Style Bungalows

If any highland promises you to show the most English-style homes and bungalows , then it is Fraser’s Hill. As the Bukit Fraser was built under the observation of the English administration, the English people had made many bungalows and houses here to have some rest from the heat of Malaysia.

Though the English colonial era ended many years ago, their signature landmarks still remained here. Most of these bungalows are now used as hotels and rest houses. These accommodations will show you British architecture and style with its utmost beauty.

Whenever we visit a new place, we want to have some memories of it. Yes, pictures are a great way to collect memories. But besides pictures, the other option that we love most is to collect the souvenirs from the local shops. Buying souvenirs for family, friends, or even for yourself is a must-do activity on any trip.

At Bukit Fraser, you will find these local souvenir shops in the Food Garden. From t-shirts caps to daily necessities, snacks and drinks all are available in those shops. But you have to make your purchases in the daylight as after dark all shops and restaurants get closed.

How to Go to Fraser’s Hill

PRIVATE TRANSFER

In spite of being one of the most popular holiday destinations, Fraser’s Hill has no direct public transport to this highland from Kuala Lumpur. The only way to get to Bukit Fraser from the capital is by car, and it takes only two hours to reach.

The highland is nearly 100 km away north from Kuala Lumpur , and most visitors come here in their personal car, though you can also take a taxi to get there. But the taxi cost is too high.

Booking a trip from a tour company can be helpful to get there. Moreover, they will also guide you on your trip.

Some History about Frasers Hill

History about Frasers Hill

There is an interesting and mysterious history around Fraser’s Hill. Louis James Fraser was a Scottish adventurer who came to this land in search of gold. But instead of gold, he found tin and made a tin mine here in the 1890s.

As this highland was discovered by Louis James Fraser, it was also named after him. Unfortunately, after 25 years, Fraser disappeared without leaving any trace.

In 1917, a search team came here to search Fraser, but they failed to find him. However, they found this highland has less heat than the other parts of Malaysia and thought that the area was highly suitable for a hill station.

By 1922, this team had built an access road to the top and opened it to the public. Since that time, it has been one of the great highland destinations in Malaysia because of its cool weather and numerous attractions and activities.

Best Time to Visit Frasers Hill

Fraser’s Hill is an excellent place for a short-time holiday, and anytime whenever you feel you need some cool atmosphere, you can opt for Bukit Fraser. But the monsoon season from November to January can be a good time to visit this place as the temperature gets cooler and more mist is seen in this time.

However, the monsoon also comes with heavy rain, which can ruin your vacation, so be careful of that.  If you don’t like overcrowding, you should avoid visiting on weekends or public holidays.

Fraser's Hill

Fraser’s Hill is a highland resort destination nestled among the mountains of Pahang, located two hours away from Kuala Lumpur. Locally known as Bukit Fraser, this cooling holiday retreat is popular for its nature activities and cooling climate, being one of the last hill stations of Malaysia, an imprint by former British colonial masters.

Fraser’s Hill has its roots in the 1890s, when Scottish prospector Louis James Fraser opened up a tin mine but mysteriously vanished in 1915. In 1917, the bishop of Singapore rediscovered Fraser's Hill while on a hunt for the man, providing suggestions for the area to be developed into a hill station which was brought to fruition by authorities.

Travel Information

Fraser's Hill can be found in the central region of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang. It lies about two hours north of Kuala Lumpur and 400km away from Singapore in the south. Bukit Fraser has an average altitude of 1,200 meters high but its highest point rises at 1,500 meters at Telekoms loop. Generally, the months with least rainfall fall between April and September, a lapse in the monsoon season.

This would be the best time to travel if you dislike wet surroundings, but the weather can still be unpredictable. It is also recommended to go during off peak seasons, which are months that have no major public or school holidays, in order to enjoy cheap accommodation in hotels and smaller crowds. Temperatures usually range between 22 - 28°C during the day and 16°C to 20°C at night.

Things to know before going to fraser's hill.

Fraser's Hill

Weather is cooling since it’s located on the hill. According to https://www.fraserhill.info/, temperature ranges between 22 – 28°C during the day and 16°C to 20°C at night. So do bring along your hoodie, jacket, and favourite blanket for the trip. However, since it’s closer to the sun, don’t forget to  wear your sunscreen as it could get really sunny, and bring an umbrella along as it rains pretty often up there.

Things to Do in Fraser's Hill:-

1. kuala kubu bharu - breakfast at sun sun nam cheong.

Fraser's Hill - Sun Sun Nam Cheong

On our way to Fraser’s Hill, we’ve made a breakfast stop at Kuala Kubu Bharu, a small quaint town at the foothill of Fraser’s Hill. There is a classic old-school Hainanese restaurant called Sun Sun Nam Cheong 新南昌 serving local cuisine.  We arrived around 9.00am, which is a perfect time for breakfast.   We’ve ordered their signature Hainanese chicken chop , a Roti Bakar (Toast bread) served with Kaya and butter, along with two half boiled eggs. The food here has a very homey feel, a basic kopitian food with lovely setting, just brings us back in time.

What we’ve ordered:-

  • Hainanese Chicken Chop
  • Roti Bakar (Toast with Kaya and Butter)
  • Half Boiled Eggs
  • Orange Juice

2. Look Out Point at Sungai Selangor Dam

Fraser's Hill - Kuala Kubu Bharu Sungai Selangor Dam

After our breakfast, we’ve stopped by the Look out point at Sungai Selangor Dam . On the way to Fraser’s Hill coming from Kuala Kubu Bharu, you will definitely would pass by this amazing view of the Sungai Selangor Dam. We stopped by the Lookout Point to have a grasp of the scenic view. We do notice some people picnic here, as there are some tables and chairs available for the public. Plus it’s free! The dam was pretty filled this round, whereas the water level could be lower during dry seasons.

Fraser's Hill - Kuala Kubu Bharu Sungai Selangor Dam

3. Chiling River

Fraser's Hill - Chiling River

Just 5 minutes away from the Sungai Selangor Dam is the Chilling River .  There is a waterfall called the chilling waterfall where you have to hike for about an hour. It is open from Fridays to Sundays but we totally skipped that plan.  We could already hear the sound of the river from the parking area. There’s a little bit of stairs to go down to the stream about 2 minutes. However we were a little disappointed along the way as the place was littered with leftover food packagings and it really spoils the atmosphere. Luckily it was much cleaner at the stream. The water from the dam actually comes from this river. I t’s a famous for a picnic spot, and you could even take a dip since the water was rather shallow.

4. Fraser's Hill Clock Tower

Fraser's Hill - Clock Tower

After our stop at Chilling River , we headed up to Fraser’s Hill. It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the foothill.

As we reach closer to our destination, we notice there were more Pine Trees along the way. Once we arrived at Fraser’s Hill, we were greeted by the iconic Fraser’s Hill Clock Tower . There were many tourists circling that roundabout, trying to take photos with the town’s famous icon, and of course we had to take some photo and videos ourselves too!

5. Lunch at The Pines Resort

Fraser's Hill - The Pines Resort

Initially, we wanted to have lunch at Aida Daniya Restaurant but unfortunately, it was closed, so we headed to The Pines Resort as they have a cafe in the resort itself that is open to the public.

The Pines Resort cafe serves quite a variety of Chinese dishes.  We’ve ordered three dishes: cantonese fried noodles,  seafood fried rice and also some mixed vegetables.

  • Seafood Fried Rice
  • Mixed Vegetables

Birdwatching in Fraser's Hill

The Pines Resort café has a beautiful view and this spot is well-known to birdwatchers as there are many pine trees around with some rare birds apparently. We are not bird watchers so we won’t be able to appreciate as much the thrill of looking at birds.

In fact, Fraser’s Hill is one of the top spots in the world for bird watching.

6. Ye Olde Smokehouse

Fraser's Hill - Ye Olde Smokehouse

Around 6pm, we’ve made our way to Ye Olde Smokehouse for dinner.

7. Hiking in Fraser's Hill - Hemmant Trail

Fraser's Hill - Hiking Hermant Trail

Fraser’s Hill is a popular spots for hikers. There are quite a number of trails, each has its own challenges and difficulty level. Well, we’re not so much of a hiker ourselves, so we took the easiest trail, called the Hemmant Trail .

Fraser's Hill - Hiking Hermant Trail

In front of every trail, there’ a signboard and a little map to indicate what kind of challenge you would be facing in the trail.

Fraser's Hill - Hiking Hermant Trail

Hemmant trail takes about 40 minutes hike, that is if you’re slow like us but for a good reason –  Hemmant trail is a scenic trail . Along the hike, it was very breezy, some paths were paved, and we barely break a sweat. Going downwards, we have the forest on our right while the golf course on our left. Among the branches, you could easily spot many types of birds during the hike. One of the best part is there were no nasty-blood-sucking leeches along this trail.

Fraser's Hill - Hiking Hermant Trail

After probably more than 40 minutes and many stops later, we’ve completed our trail and arrived at the main road, next to Fraser’s Hill mosque and restaurant called Hamzah where we had our breakfast.

8. Walking Around Fraser's Hill

Fraser's Hill - Walking Around

We’ve continued our exercise by walking around the town in Fraser’s Hill, and take some photos while enjoying the weather and the view.

Fraser's Hill - Walking Around

One thing we love about Fraser’s Hill is the cute vintage colonial buildings, like the post office and police stations, which are still functioning up till today. They were built about 100 years ago, 1919 for the police station for example.

Fraser's Hill - Walking Around

There’s this spot where you actually get to stand between the border of two states, Selangor and Pahang, which we had to take a picture with!

During the weekends, vendors would set up stalls selling snacks along the the golf course areas.

Fraser's Hill - Walking Around

Most of the attractions on Fraser’s Hill uses cash. If you’re running low on hard cash, do not worry, you would be able to find an ATM to withdraw your cash from the Maybank Branch located at Shazan Inn near the town area.

Around Fraser’s Hill, there are lots of gardens and picnic spots. We do enjoy walking along the golf course area.

There’s also a food court here in Fraser’s Hill called the Food Garden. You can find a lot of local food choices over here and they’re all pretty affordable.

Fraser's Hill - Playground

This is probably one of the biggest playground areas in Fraser’s Hill, right next to the food court. There’s a little mini golf area where you can rent a mini golf set for RM8.

9. Breakfast at Hamzah Restaurant

Fraser's Hill - Kedai Makan Hamzah

10. Allan's Water - Paddling and Fish Feeding

Fraser's Hill - Allan's Water

Next, we’ve went to a lake called Allan’s Water for paddling and fish feeding.

We rented a paddle boat for RM10 which gave us 15 minutes to enjoy the serene surrounding of the lake while pedaling.

Over here you can buy some fish pallet to feed the fishes, and apparently there were a few cute ducks hanging around the lake too! These fishes were really well fed and they’re expecting food whenever they see human passing by.

11. Fraser's Edible Garden

Fraser's Hill - Fraser's Edible Garden

Right  next to the Allan’s Water is this little farm that you can actually buy some vegetables. There are flowers and strawberries here too. We’ve decided to buy some radish and cauliflower, and requested the seller to let us pluck our own vegetables.

Fraser's Hill - Fraser's Edible Garden

This was our first time harvesting radish and cauliflower, which was really cool, giving me Harvest Moon moments!

12. Aida Daniya Restaurant and English Teahouse

Fraser's Hill - Aida Daniya Restaurant

Time passes real quick and it was lunch time! We’ve tried to go to the restaurant where we originally wanted to go the day before (Friday), and was glad it’s open today, Saturday 🙂

This restaurant is called Aida Daniya Restaurant and English Teahouse . It could get really crowded during the weekends and school holidays as this place is pretty popular.

Fraser's Hill - Aida Daniya Restaurant

O ne of the reason is because of the lovely view while you get to sip down on your tea and take a bite of your scone. The food is pretty decent, we’ve ordered a  tea set for one, it comes with two scones, strawberry jam and cream . We’ve also got the Spaghetti carbonara with beef and strawberry juice.

It’s very common for cyclists and bikers to come up to Fraser’s Hill.

Fraser's Hill - The Paddock Horse Riding

After our lunch, we’ve headed to The Paddock for horse riding , which is another thing to do here in Fraser’s Hill.

Horse riding was fun, we didn’t expect how tall it was.

14. The Paddock - Archery

At The Paddock area, there is also an Archery Range, where we test our Archery skills and gauge our Hunger Games survivability. (Suffice to say, we will not survive :P)

15. The Glasshouse

For our last stop, we went to the Glasshouse, which is another popular spot in Fraser’s Hill. We’ve took countless photos because the place was so beautiful. We ordered some dessert, highly recommend the Lemon Poppy Seed Cake , and the Matcha Cheesecake is good too. They sell succulent plans here as well.

After that we’ve make our way back to Kuala Lumpur, so that’s concludes our 2 days 1 night trip to Fraser’s Hill.

How to Get to Fraser's Hill

The journey to Fraser’s Hill takes about 2.5 hours from Kuala Lumpur. The only way to get to Fraser’s Hill is by road via private vehicle . We did read online that you could take a taxi up to Fraser’s Hill, but we’re not too sure about that.

There are basically two routes to get to the top of Fraser’s Hill: 1. from Kuala Kubu Bahru 2. from Bentong

Where to Stay in Fraser's Hill

There isn’t much option when it comes to accommodation in Fraser’s Hill. You’ll find homestays, inns, resorts, and Airbnb here, but don’t have too high of an expectation as there aren’t any fancy hotels up here. We stayed in an apartment at Fraser’s Silverpark Resort.

It was a private property, so we did not take any photo or video in the apartment. There are other apartment/homestays within Silverpark Resort which were really beautifully decorated such as  Colonie Luxe 1121 Fraser’s Hill   which could accommodate up to 10 people.

Nora Hana

Berikut adalah Laluan Bukit Fraser;

  • Jejak Abu Suradi, Panjang: 0.5 km
  • Jejak Rompin, Panjang: 0.5 km
  • Jejak Kindersley, Panjang: 0.75 km
  • Hemmant Trail, Panjang: 1 km
  • Jejak Mager, Panjang: 1 km
  • Jejak Bishop (Lanjutan), Panjang: 1.5 km
  • Jejak Maxwell (Lanjutan), Panjang: 1.8 km
  • Jejak Pokok Pokok (Lanjutan), Panjang: 5 km

6. Lawati Strawberry Farm and Café
