What travelers are saying about our guided trips

Tips for planning tours & travel with us.

Here at Go Ahead, we make it easy to plan a tour. All you have to do is decide which of our travel packages excites you most, and when you’d like to travel. (A springtime escape to  Europe , anyone?) If you can’t decide, we’ll help you narrow down our vacation packages and find the perfect trip.

From there, we’ll take care of the rest. For travelers who book flights with us, our in-house team of travel experts will get to work finding flights with our trusted airline partners. And as you count down to tour, we’ll be busy booking clean, stylish, comfy hotels, planning meals at locally loved restaurants, and securing tickets to top museums, cultural sites, and, if it applies to your tour, special events.

Having our team of travel experts take care of every last logistical detail is one of  10 benefits of a guided tour versus independent travel .

How do I pick the right tour for me?

When browsing our 175-plus vacation packages, here are a few things to keep in mind to help you find the just-right tours for travel to the places you’ve been dreaming of visiting.

  • Your travel style.  Are you into wildlife, adventure, or food and wine? Do you want to take a deep dive into a particular destination or religion?  Want to experience a special event, or explore with a small group? We offer escorted tours designed around these  travel styles  and others so that travelers can have the experience that suits them best.
  • Where you want to go.  Whether you’ve long dreamed of exploring America’s national parks, Scotland’s pristine landscapes, or Thailand’s golden temples, you can do it on our guided tours. Some of our itineraries are designed to offer travelers a deeper dive into a single country. Others take travelers to multiple countries in a single trip (think Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, or Portugal, Spain, and Morocco).
  • When you want to go.  Sure, there’s nothing like Paris in the springtime. But maybe seeing the City of Light against a backdrop of fiery fall foliage is more what you have in mind. We’ll make that happen. We offer dozens of departures per tour, and in the case of some trips, we offer departures all year round. And, we make tours available for booking up to two years in advance. Having more time to pay, and more departure dates to choose from, are among the  eight benefits of booking a trip years in advance .
  • Special or seasonal events.  Have you always wanted to see cherry blossoms blooming in Japan? Or sip hot, mulled wine while wandering around a  European Christmas market ? Perhaps witnessing the Great Migration is at the top of your travel wish list. Events like these, and others, only happen during certain times of year, so be sure to check out tour packages for travel that occur at the same time.
  • Duration.  Our tours range from six days to 22 days. Want to enjoy a quick break? Consider our shorter tours, which we offer in destinations such as Iceland, Spain, and Amsterdam. Have more time to spare? A  10-day trip to Scandinavia , or a  22-day tour of Australia and New Zealand , could be just the ticket.
  • Who you want to travel with.  Many of our group trips are designed for groups of 15 to 38 travelers. (Think: more opportunities to make new friends.) If you prefer a more intimate experience, consider one of our Small Group Tours, which are designed for groups of 10 to 22 travelers. Want to explore solely with your friends or family? We happily craft  Private Tours and Customized Tours for groups of seven travelers or more.

Our trips are bookable directly through our website. (Putting  $99 down with AutoPay , our interest-free payment plan, is all it takes to secure your spot on tour.) If you have questions or can’t decide which tour is right for you, you can call us at  1-800-590-1161 . We’re here to help.

We offer more than 200 tour packages. They include:

  • Guided group tours.  These trips are designed for groups of 15 to 38 travelers and include  Multi-Country Tours , single-country tours, and  City Stay Tours , which give travelers an opportunity to explore a particular city in depth.
  • Small Group Tours.  A more intimate tour experience with a group size of just 10 to 22 travelers.  Small group travel styles  include Food & Wine Tours, Adventure Tours, and Safari & Wildlife Tours.
  • Special Event Tours.  Typically capped at 35 or 38 travelers, these trips are designed to capture the magic of special and/or seasonal events, such as Oktoberfest, Oberammergau, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, Sakura (cherry blossom) season, fall foliage, Christmas markets of Europe, Halloween, and more. Find the perfect tour for you by browsing our  Special Event tours .
  • Private and Customized Tours.  Have a particular interest you want to explore? We happily plan  Private and for groups of 10 or more travelers. Want to plan a Custom Tour ? Go custom with as few as 14 travelers. Enjoy everything you get on all of our tours (staff-vetted hotels, guided sightseeing, authentic meals), plus some pretty amazing extras.

The price of our trip packages includes:

  • A specially trained [Tour Director](/about/tour-directors], who will accompany your group on tour, from the moment you touch down in your destination to the time you take off again for home
  • Sightseeing tours with expert local guides
  • Skip-the-line admission to all museums, cultural sites, and special events that are included in your itinerary
  • Overnight stays in clean, stylish, well-located hotels that our own staffers have stayed in and vetted
  • Transportation in your destination via private, luxury coach (depending on which tour you book, you may also travel by train, ferry, or airplane on tour )
  • Daily breakfast at your hotel (a relaxed, convenient way to fuel up for a full day of exploring)
  • Some lunches and dinners at local restaurants or hotels
  • Free time to explore local restaurants, historical sites—anything that piques your interest—at your own pace
  • Airport transfers for travelers who  book flights with us

THIS IS WHAT AWAITS IN EUROPE

Towering castles. Untamed natural beauty. Captivating history. Can’t-miss cuisine. This is your time, your moment, your chance to discover Europe.

Destination Must-Sees

Greece Must see takeover

One of the most well-known tourist destinations in Greece, Olympia is located in the western Peloponnese, known as the “Valley of the Gods.” Surrounded by beautiful scenery from the Arcadian Mountains, it is home of the first Olympic Games that were held in 776 B. Step into history when you walk through the ruins of the ancient Olympic stadium or witness amazing sculptures at the museum.

paris europe mustsees

France’s romantic capital is a must-see destination, and a gorgeous gateway to the wonders the rest of this country has to offer. Whether your ideal Parisian getaway has you spending some free time sipping coffee at a café and watching the bustling city life, roaming the halls of art at the Louvre, or exploring the bohemian artist’s haven — the Montmartre neighborhood, there’s rich history and culture abound in every corner of the City of Light.

Europe ms1

Irish countryside:

Take in the atmosphere of quaint seaside villages, see awe inspiring views of the Lakes of Killarney and explore the picturesque town of Kinsale. Wherever you travel in the countryside, you’ll find that the rolling hills and friendly people you encounter will become a part of your fabric.

Europe ms2

Ancient cities of Italy:

Italy is positively brimming with the world’s most famous Roman ruins like the Colosseum, Pompeii and many other relics from the ancient past. In fact, many cities in Italy still hold evidence of what once was. You can find an aqueduct, city gate, Roman theater or the ruins of an entire city there.

Destination Must-Dos

Greece Must dos takeoverv2

Meteora Monastery:

Over 600 years ago Byzantine monks chose to build their monastic community atop limestone rock “towers” that extend nearly 900 feet into the air, making them virtually inaccessible. It is one of the greatest monuments in the world, and is the most important monastic center in Greece. You can climb these rocks and travel the paths hidden behind the massive rocks.

Palace of Versailles France2022

The Palace of Versailles

The iconic Palace of Versailles (UNESCO) and its gardens reflect the extravagant tastes of King Louis XIV, the "Sun King." Alongside a local guide, learn the history and admire the various rooms of the State Apartments, including the Queen's bedchamber and the famous Hall of Mirrors. Be sure to explore the incredible gardens, some of the most famous in the world, which took over 40 years to complete and include intricate architecture, elaborate fountains, and gorgeous statues.

Europe md2

Drift down a canal:

While canals are found across Europe, nothing beats a romantic gondola ride in Venice. Locals like to say the best way to explore the city is to ‘get lost.’ So take a ride along these waterways, step off and then wind your way through the intricate blend of bridges, narrow streets and grand squares.

Spain md4

This was the first capital of Spain located about 43 miles south of Madrid. The history of Toledo dates back to the Roman occupation circa 192 B.C. The old city of Toledo sits atop of a small mountain surrounded on three sides by the Tagus River, and medieval walls on the fourth. From the top of the mountain you can get a 180 degree view of the surrounding landscape.

Sikkim and Gangtok same?

Sikkim and Gangtok are not the same, but they are closely related. Sikkim is a state in northeastern India, while Gangtok is the capital and largest town of Sikkim. Here's a bit more detail about each: Sikkim: Sikkim is a state located in the northeastern part of India, nestled in the eastern Himalayas. It is known for its stunning natural beauty, including lush green valleys, snow-capped peaks, pristine lakes, and dense forests. Sikkim is one of the smallest states in India by land area but is rich in biodiversity and cultural diversity. The state offers a wide range of attractions and activities, including trekking, mountaineering, wildlife viewing, and visits to monasteries and historical sites. Sikkim shares its borders with Tibet (China) to the north, Bhutan to the east, Nepal to the west, and the Indian state of West Bengal to the south Gangtok: Gangtok is the capital and largest town in Sikkim. It serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of the state. Gangtok is situated in the eastern part of Sikkim and is known for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate. The town is surrounded by the Himalayan ranges and offers breathtaking views of the mountains. Gangtok is a popular tourist destination and serves as a gateway for travelers exploring various parts of Sikkim. It has a mix of modern amenities and traditional charm, with attractions like monasteries, markets, and viewpoints.

Which is colder Sikkim or Darjeeling?

Sikkim, as a state, encompasses various elevations and climates, so the temperature can vary depending on the specific location and time of year. In general, Sikkim has a wide range of temperatures, from subtropical in the lower regions to alpine in the higher areas. Darjeeling, on the other hand, is known for its cooler climate due to its higher elevation. It's a hill station located at an altitude of around 6,700 feet (2,042 meters) above sea level, and its climate is considered more temperate compared to many parts of Sikkim. In terms of general temperature comparisons: Darjeeling: Darjeeling tends to be cooler than the lower-altitude areas of Sikkim. Summers in Darjeeling are mild, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F). Winters are colder, with temperatures dropping to around 2°C to 7°C (36°F to 45°F). It can occasionally experience snowfall during the winter months. Sikkim: The temperatures in Sikkim can vary widely based on the elevation. In places like Gangtok (the capital of Sikkim) at a lower elevation, the temperatures are milder and more moderate, similar to Darjeeling. However, in higher-altitude areas of Sikkim, such as Lachung, Lachen, or areas around Nathula Pass, temperatures can be significantly colder, especially during the winter months, often dropping below freezing.

Does Gangtok have snow?

Yes, Gangtok, the capital and largest town of Sikkim, does receive snowfall, but it typically occurs during the winter months. Gangtok is situated at an elevation of approximately 5,410 feet (1,650 meters) above sea level, which means that while it does experience cold weather in the winter, it doesn't receive heavy or prolonged snowfall like higher-altitude areas in Sikkim. Here's what you can expect regarding snowfall in Gangtok: Winter Snowfall: Gangtok may experience occasional light snowfall during the winter months, particularly in December, January, and February. However, the snowfall in Gangtok is usually not heavy, and it may not accumulate significantly on the ground. Snow-Covered Surroundings: While Gangtok itself may not be covered in deep snow, the surrounding areas at higher elevations, such as Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake), Nathula Pass, and higher mountain regions, often receive more substantial snowfall and can provide a snowy landscape during the winter. Road Closures: When there is snowfall, especially in the higher regions of Sikkim, it can lead to temporary road closures, including the Nathula Pass route, due to safety concerns. It's important to check road conditions and any travel advisories if you plan to visit these areas during the winter. While Gangtok may not offer a consistently snowy experience, it can still be a charming destination to visit in the winter with its cool and crisp weather, making it a great time to enjoy the local culture and natural beauty. If you specifically want to experience heavy snowfall, you may need to plan excursions to higher-altitude areas within Sikkim during the winter season.

How many days required to visit Gangtok?

The number of days required to visit Gangtok can vary depending on your interests, the specific places you want to explore in and around Gangtok, and your travel pace. However, a typical itinerary for Gangtok usually ranges from 2 to 4 days. Here's a general guideline for how you can plan your time in Gangtok: 2 Days in Gangtok: If you have limited time, you can spend a quick two days in Gangtok to see some of its major attractions. This would involve a somewhat rushed schedule but can give you a taste of the town. Day 1: Explore the city center, visit attractions like MG Marg (the main market), Enchey Monastery, and Hanuman Tok. Day 2: Take a day trip to the nearby attractions, such as Rumtek Monastery, Banjhakri Falls, and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. 3 Days in Gangtok: Spending three days in Gangtok allows for a more relaxed experience, and you can explore additional places. Day 1 and Day 2: Follow the itinerary for a 2-day trip, as mentioned above. Day 3: Visit the Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir (if they are open to tourists; permits are required), or you can explore more of Gangtok's local culture and cuisine. 4 Days or More: With four or more days in Gangtok, you can explore the town at a leisurely pace and also consider nearby destinations like Nathula Pass and Changu Lake. Day 1 and Day 2: Follow the itinerary for a 2-day trip in Gangtok. Day 3: Visit Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir (if you haven't already) or explore nearby areas like Tashi Viewpoint, Ganesh Tok, or the Flower Exhibition Centre. Day 4: Take a day trip to Nathula Pass (if it's open to tourists during your visit; permits are required), which is a high-altitude border pass with China. You can also visit Changu Lake on the way.

Bali swing, whitewater rafting and waterfall excursions

Speechless. This was one of my favorite days in Bali. They were all amazing, but the people, planning and location make the day a success. When you select Get Your Guide, you are provided with a private, personal experience with a team dedicated to your day. On this particular day, we worked with Sandi from Get Your Guide, Billy from Infinity Adventure rafting and our photographer, Made. This team provided the trifecta of service delivery. I wouldn’t change a thing about the day…other than getting home earlier, but when you are having unforgettable memories it is worth it. The white water rafting is a 90 minute paddle in a calm area which is nice to get the experience, enjoy nature, do some swimming, enjoy some coconuts and swim in waterfalls. Oh, don’t forget about the stairs to the top. Next up was the coffee tour and swing ride. It was interesting to learn about the behind the scenes process of coffee making. Next stop the waterfall and traditional village. Best value ever. Invest in the photographer add on. Definitely make a note for Made. He is amazing. I’m pretty sure he took over 500 photos. He spent the entire day with us and had great poses, patience and was very sweet.

An abysmal ending with this app/resolved

Story: My husband and I booked three events with Get Your Guide. We were planning a graduation trip to Myrtle Beach with our grandson. One of the policies of this app is that you can only cancel an event more than 24 hours in advance unless you are sick, hospitalized or dead. For those three things you need documentation. The first two events went off without a hitch. On the day of the last event, my husband took ill. We went right away to an urgent care where he was diagnosed with Covid. I let Get Your Guide know that he was sick and that I had documentation, but they would not let us cancel the day of the event. They said said it was the responsibility of the venue to return our money. My grandson and I did go to the show where I was told that it is Get Your Guide that has to refund your money. It is now about a week later, and I have tried providing my documentation again trying to get a refund for my husband, but the app keeps apologizing saying they have a policy. What good is a policy if you don’t honor (by providing documentation) it? We were being responsible so no one else would be infected. There are always exceptions to policies!! Still glad we did the right thing. VERY disappointed patron who will not be using this app again!! FINAL OUTCOME: Lots of work & hours invested, but our money was refunded. Thank you

Developer Response ,

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry your husband couldn't attend the activity and we hope he's better now. Please send us your booking details at [email protected] from the same email address you used to make your booking, mentioning the name on your review and we'll look into it as soon as possible.

They won’t let you leave less than a 5 star review

I tried to give 2 stars but they don’t even allow it!! 😂 WOW. I recently tried this app/company for the first time on an international trip because they seemed so convenient and they had many more tours and opportunities than I had been easily able to find otherwise. However, after booking 3 items through them, I have spent more time on help chat with them tracking down and fixing their mistakes than the time spent on actual enjoyable activities, which is supposedly what they sell - convenient access to activities. My experiences with this company have included waiting in 15 degrees F for an hour for a tour bus that never came, an hour now on the app and phone after that to get that tour refunded, and more recently, more time out of my life after vacation is over tracking down why they are apparently recurring charging me according to my credit card alerts. Thanks Get Your Guide for enriching my life! I will say that their customer service people are very friendly (they clearly get alot of practice), however, I prefer companies that get it right in the first place. Avoid them like the plague.

Hogan was our excellent guide. We were a family of 8 ranging in age from teens to mid sixties of varying hiking ability and were all able to enjoy a wide range of activities. We paid extra for hotel accommodations and found it well worth it although, if everyone is willing to sleep in tents, you can save a lot and have basically the same adventure.
The 7-day Southwest Highlights tour was amazing! Alex and Amber were terrific guides that helped to give us options to make the most of our time at each tour stop. They also took care of setting up camp most days and prepared great meals throughout the trip. The trip was well organized, and we stopped often during the drive. I recommend this tour to people who want an active vacation, checking a number of National Parks off their list, but don't want to do all of the research needed to make it happen.
Everything was great. We enjoyed the pacing of our itinerary and our guide Gogee was excellent.

"Maggy and Vassil's wonderful Magnifisent Alaska Tour with Southwest Adventure Tours! July 2024 The trip was awesome. The itinerary was very well planned. The places we visited were spectacular/you can enjoy the photos/. All of the above is due to our guide - Daniel(Dan) Sachse, He is a very experience tour guide with good driving skill. His knowledge of Alaska, its nature, history and culture made our trip wonderful. He is consummately friendly and courteous, always with a smile on his face. He created a very friendly atmosphere in our group. He was always cheerful, enthusiastic and showed great concern for the welfare of our group. A first class tour leader! Navy will force aviators to remain in service to complete sea tours

yur tur travel

The Navy will now require naval aviators to serve past their minimum service requirement in order to complete their second, two-year sea tour — the sea service’s latest attempt to boost retention in the aviation community, according to an internal briefing document obtained by Navy Times.

The policy applies to officers serving in their first shore tour with a projected rotation date of October 2025 and beyond, and is being implemented due to “personnel shortages across second sea duty billets,” the Naval Air Forces document states.

“This policy increases warfighting readiness by reducing billet turnover rates at sea, and ensuring more of the Navy’s highest priority billets are filled,” the briefing states.

Naval Air Forces confirmed the authenticity of the document to Navy Times.

Roughly a quarter of unrestricted line aviators request to leave the Navy once they reach their minimum service requirement, sometimes in the midst of that second two-year sea tour — an issue the Navy attributes to extended training pipelines and first sea duty tour extensions in some instances.

Navy offering big bucks to keep aviation officers in uniform

Aviators from a variety of platforms are eligible for big bucks if they opt to stay navy..

While Navy Personnel Command has historically signed off on such mid-tour separation requests, Navy pilots and naval flight officers will now fulfill the entire length of a second sea tour prior to departing the service.

“Aviation [unrestricted line] communities are tasked with filling 904 second sea duty billets; current inventory and separation timing have led to approximately 19% of these billets remaining unfilled and 60-70% of these billets turning over annually resulting in decreased operational readiness in key billets,” the document states. “This has been mitigated by early departures from first shore tours, which impacts retention and is unsustainable long term.”

Most officers will be forced to stay in uniform for less than a year more under the new policy, according to Naval Air Forces spokesperson Cmdr. Beth Teach.

The policy also aims to allow more junior officers to complete their full shore-duty, rather than stepping in to fill empty at-sea billets caused by the departing aviators, she said.

“We are in a warfighting business and this is one way that we’re going to continue to increase readiness,” Teach told Navy Times. “We understand that there are concerns, and we’re communicating this more than a whole year in advance, so that people can ask questions and plan their careers. Ultimately, it reduces turnover and creates opportunity for more [junior officers] to complete their shore duty in the future.”

In a list of questions and answers included in the document, Naval Air Forces says that it is legal for the Navy to require officers to serve past their minimum service requirement to fulfill the prescribed tour length in the event of personnel shortages.

“In accordance with MILPERSMAN 1301-108, and higher-level instructions, if determined by competitive category or designator that significant personnel shortages are a compelling military necessity for retention, then an Officer may be retained until the completion of the Prescribed Tour Length written in approved orders,” the document states.

Word of the policy change spread online Tuesday, and Instagram pages dedicated to the world of junior Navy officers soon went to work with memes related to the news.

The head of naval aviation, Vice Adm. Daniel Cheever, is slated to visit several installations next month and hold all-hands calls with junior officers to discuss the policy, according to the document.

“Officers are encouraged to ask questions about this policy and its impacts to their career planning during detailing discussions, as well as with their chain of command,” it states.

Those selected for department head may wrap up their second sea tour before the prescribed length of time if the required training pipeline and planned arrival dates require it, according to the briefing.

Go here to read the full document.

Navy aviator retention rates declined in Fiscal Year 2023, with 11 out of 15 aviation communities not having enough officers to be department heads, according to the Navy’s latest Health of the Force report.

In the strike fighter community alone, roughly 25 percent of the Navy’s department head billets are unmanned, according to the report.

And while the Navy has offered big bucks to keep pilots flying Navy, the report said fewer aviators are accepting the department head retention bonuses. Currently, the Navy offers aviation department heads up to $280,000 to remain in service for seven more years.

“Naval Aviation continues to meet operational requirements,” the report states. “However, sustained support and frequent evaluation of monetary incentives are critical in our effort to retain highly trained and experienced mid- and senior-level aviators.”
