*10 days in Jordan visiting the highlights (Amman, Dead Sea, Mount Nebo …) and 6 days horse riding to connect the 2 famous Jordan wonders, riding between Petra and Wadi Rum desert !

The Nabatean tracks ride – from Petra to Wadi Rum

Our stable  is located right at the entrance of the Wadi Rum protected area. We own about fifteen Arabian horses who live in the desert all year long. They are in good health condition and are used to living and travelling in the desert.

Our horses  are spirited, clever and sociable. They are easy to control, but like all horses with arabian roots, they are fast and sensible and ask some tact. They are all different and have their own character.

Our equipment

• – Our saddlery (english) is in very good shape to provide comfort and safety.
• – Our saddles are synthetic, model Wintec.
• – We  use trek bridles.
• – We do not use trek bags, but saddle blankets with pockets to carry what is needed during the day such as water, camera, sun cream etc…
• – We provide helmets in a limited number.

The riding guides  are Bedouins. Speaking fluent english, they are experienced, know perfectly all the horses, the itineraries, and the desert of Wadi Rum. They know the local culture and are able to make the right decision in case of emergency. A first aid kit is always available.

Riding level :  This activity requires you to be experienced in horse riding and fit enough to enjoy and take advantage of the ride. Also, as our horses are Arabian, they are small and can not carry heavy weight.  We do not ask them to carry more than 85 kg.

What is an experienced rider?

• – to know how to saddle and unsaddle your horse.
• – to know to control your horse at all paces in open area.
• – to know how to do rising trot canter and gallop.

"Lawrence of Arabia" refers to the British soldier T.E.Lawrence who wrote the autobiographical book Seven Pillars of Wisdom whilst serving as a liason officer with rebel forces during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Turks of 1916-1918.

Lawrence was based in the Wadi Rum as a member of the British forces and with the support of Emir Faisal and his tribesmen, carried out attacks on the Ottoman forces from Aqaba in the south to Damascus in the north. Many sites in the Wadi Rum have been named after him and the famous rock formations near the entrance are now known as the Seven Pillars.

The title "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" actually comes from the Book of Proverbs and Lawrence had intended to write a book about seven great cities of the Middle East, but when war broke out he liked the name so much that he kept it for his autobiography.

Our trail ride in Jordan visits many of the sites attributed to Lawrence: Lawrence's house, Lawrence's spring and the Seven Pillars being some of them.

Horse Riding in Jordan The Wadi Rum mirrors a moonscape of ancient valleys and towering, weathered sandstone mountains rising out of the white and pink colored sands. A scene right out of the exploits of Lawrence of Arabia and the authentic setting of the film, the Wadi Rum presents many opportunities for long canters across high plateaus. Traveling along old caravan roads offers an encounter with an altogether different world, complete with possible personal invites from the desert dwelling Bedouins.   The highlight of this horse-riding trip is a visit to Petra – the Hidden City. Petra, the jewel in the crown of Jordan's antiquities, has been declared by popular ballot one of the 'new' Seven Wonders of the World. The magnificent rock-hewn city of the Nabateans hardly needed further billing (since Jean Louis Burckhardt discovered it in the 19th century, it has been a favorite destination for Europeans) but at sunset on a winter's day, when the rose-pink city catches alight, it's easy to see why it has charmed a new generation of visitors.

Jordan Weather and Climate Jordan is blessed with a Mediterranean climate for pleasurable year-round travel. Amman is sunny and cloudless from May to early November, with average temperatures around 23° C (73 F). Springtime brings optimal weather, lush with greenery, and autumn is equally mild and pleasant. July and August are hot and dry but not oppressive. Because of the capital city’s elevation, evenings are cool.

Horsemanship Tour

During the 6 days in the desert there are 3 days devoted to horsemanship courses and 3 days of riding in the desert. Generally it's half day of horsemanship and half day of riding all depending of the weather. 

Before coming to Wadi Rum you have one day where you visit Petra and after your stay in the desert you spend one day at the Dead Sea.

Route details

Arrival at Queen Alia airport transfer to your hotel in Petra.

After breakfast you can start your visit of the archaeological site of Petra. Overnight in Petra. 

After an early breakfast you start your 2 hour drive to Wadi Rum. 

Introduction to the team and you start with a 2,5 hour ride in the morning until the lunch place. 

After lunch we will start the horsemanship course. First afternoon you learn the basic groundwork with your horse. 

Overnight under the stars or in a tent. 

After a good breakfast you ride to the Burrah canyon. You will ride through the canyon, this will take 1 hour. After the canyon you continue to the mushroom stone where you can take some nice pictures. 

Lunch will be in this area. After lunch you go to the Burdah arch, where you can take some more nice pictures. The morning will be spent on horseback and after lunch the horsemanship programme will be:

Practice on the ground

• habituation to the stick, 
• habituation to the movements, 
• habituation to the flag.

Controlling the environment by controlling your feet; hindquarters and forequarters by feel. 

Does my horse understand my body language; backing up to distance and bringing back to trot. 

After a good night's sleep and a good breakfast, you start with the theory: the four personalities of the horse. 

• Practice on the ground; 
• Then I work my horse from a distance; 
• Sending on the circle 
• Disengaging from the circle. 
• Can his feet become my feet; 
• Leading your horse from close to close. 

Followed by a good lunch after which you ride through a small canyon to the famous Wadi Rum arch, Um Frut arch. 

Overnight at Burdah bridge. 

A whole day dedicated to horsemanship science. 

Some theory: How to understand what my horse is feeling?

Riding practice

• how to successfully soothe my horse; 
• lateral bending;
• hindquarters by feeling;
• Backing up with a signal. 

Ground practice

• Does my horse trust me; 
• preparation for freedom.

You stay a second night at the Burdah bridge. 

After a hearty breakfast, you start with mounted practice. This is the last part of the horsemanship science course.  

How to ride freely

• steering without hands;
• impulsion without hands. 

In the afternoon you will ride between the border of the white and red desert to reach the place where you will spend the night, Um Mugur. 

You continue to ride between the white and red desert until lunch. After lunch, you ride back to the village through the Khazali canyon. You will be able to dismount and visit the Khazali canyon where you can see ancient Thamudic, Nabatean, Coufic inscriptions and petroglyphs. Once back at the stables you will be taken by jeep to our camp for dinner and overnight. 

Transfer from Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea. It takes about 3 hours to reach the Dead Sea. Here you can relax, float and have a nice lunch. When you have finished, you can ask your driver to take you to the hotel in Madaba. 

Transfer from your hotel in Madaba to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. 

You should be able to ride a horse in the three paces (walk, trot, canter) in an open space. Also be able to tack and untack a horse. The days are divided in half days of horsemanship courses and half days of riding in the desert. 

Accommodation

On day 1, 2 and 9 you sleep in 3* hotels in Petra and Madaba.

From day 3 till 8 you can choose to sleep under the stars or in a tent. Last night in the desert is in a Bedouin camp and overnight is in a Bedouin tent with shared bathrooms. 

Hotel is located at walking distance from the Petra site entrance. 

Situated in the centre of Madaba at walking distance from the shops and restaurants.

• reusable wipes (waste is poorly managed in Jordan we try to reduce waste production on our tours).

Ali's family members provided excellent support by moving the camp twice a day and preparing delicious meals. Sleeping under the stars on comfortable mats with the horses nearby was a dream come true. The only drawback was the summer heat, which limited our riding activities. Despite this, we would love to repeat the experience, either in a cooler season or even in the summer again. Enjoyed my relaxing carriage ride with St. Petersburg Carriage! Our horse was a sweetheart. Our tour guide was so nice. We had a ride around Beach Dr., Straub Park, & Vinoy Park. It was perfect weather as well. The carriage ride is dog friendly so you can be cozy with them as well! It was a perfect ride!

This was a surprise to our Anniversary Day from my husband. Our horse was Onyx and she was just learning the route they were taking is on. She did lovely. Our guide Leland and Jessica were fantastic! Jessica took great pictures of us before hand and he was very informative about St.Petersburg( it was our first time there). We already planned our next date night half way through the trip because of Leland's wonderful guidance. This company was fantastic! I would recommend them to anyone who was looking for a a lovely experience. Thank you for adding on to our Anniversary Day!

Great company! We reserved a carriage for an anniversary ride through downtown St. Pete. Online reservation worked flawlessly and we received a reminder email one day before our reservation. We showed up at the location on Bayshore and our carriage was waiting for us. We had the choice between a black or white carriage. Our one hour tour went through historic St. Pete. and it could not have been better. Our tour was every bit of one hour and well worth the money. Thanks for a great evening and the professional service!

This is the best way to see around downtown St Petersburg. The horses are awesome well-loved and some are rescues. The guide will take you along the Waterfront and other areas and tell you about history and current events in St Petersburg. The horses live on a farm about 25 minutes away and they also offer horseback riding at the farm. You must book ahead of time as they only come downtown when appointments are booked. The Cinderella Carriage is great for little girls birthday parties and they even have larger open carriages for Christmas Light tours which are the best!

Boy was our trip ruined by Leland, the owner!!! Valentine's Day wonderful ride with our host, Zeus(the horse), managed by the most gracious Jessica. Started our trip at Annata. We extended our trip with the understanding that it will cost me more. No problem! Unfortunately the cowboy hat wearing patron didn't feel that the agreed upon sum was enough. During our ride, began berating poor Jessica about the fact that she accommodated my request for $40 more and made sure she would be responsible for the difference. Mind you I was promised a 40 minute ride for $80. My extended $120 ride only lasted 37 mins entirely! Even better as we passed 5th Ave on Beach Dr, the owner stopped us at 400 Beach to run my credit card! Just return me to the place I started, you crochety old bastard! Thanks for ruining what is supposed to be a nice experience.

I tried booking with this company for a wedding. I gave the owner 3 different scenarios of meeting at the church at 3, or closer to his barn, or the hotel. Every situation and time I gave the cost to get a ride on the carriage was for 30 to 60 mins was 600 bucks. When I asked why the cost was so much more he said because I am in a wedding dress. He never told me the carriage was nicer or the horse was better. Just I'm in a wedding dress so the cost has to be 600. I have never felt so taken advantage of. When they do tours of downtown St. Petersburg area for one hour it is $140. However since I will be in a different outfit that day the price is increased. I'm getting married in the downtown area where they already have permits for the tours. I don't understand why when the word wedding is added to any situation vendors decide to take advantage. I asked if I could just book a tour for that day in my wedding dress and I was told no and If we did try to do that and I was in a wedding dress he would stop the carriage. I'm so disappointed in how I was treated and my first expierence with this company was absolutely awful. Be aware if u ever want to book with this company for a wedding. They will totally take advantage
