Sevylor inflatable kayaks are very well known for two reasons:

• They have been around for a long time and are sold at a lot of different places
• They tend to be fairly affordable

Sevylor in fact is one of the oldest manufacturers of inflatable kayaks and inflatable boats.

In the past Sevylor kayaks have been considered “cheap” versions of a “real” kayak.

The quality wasn’t considered to be anything great but they would get you and your family out on the water for an affordable price.

Over the years their inflatable kayak fleet has changed and is constantly improving.

Although they are still not able to compete quality wise with the top inflatable kayak manufacturers such as AIRE, Sea Eagle, Innova, Advanced Elements, etc., they still continue to have great popularity.

If you have considered purchasing a Sevylor inflatable kayak there are some pros and cons you should be aware of.

• The price tends to be good especially for those just starting out
• The majority of their models are fairly light weight and easy to transport and travel with

• Sevylor is constantly working to improve their quality while continuing to offer affordable choices for the masses
• Their inflatable kayaks are great for recreational paddlers
• They have a good choice of sit-on-top inflatable kayaks

Sevylor Inflatable Kayaks Cons

• Not specialized and will not excel in performance
• Quality is known to be lacking and consequently it will not last you as long as some other brands
• There have been issues with certain models leaking air
• The durability of the kayak material used in construction does not compare to other more reputable brands
• Some of the cheaper models have been known to get pushed around by the wind

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that if you are just starting out and would like to try kayaking without investing a lot of money than a Sevylor inflatable kayak may be a good place to start.

If however you plan to paddle for years to come then you may want to look at a higher end brand name.

The reviews are mixed as I have heard of many people who have been very happy with their Sevylor inflatable kayak and I have head of many others who would never buy one again.

I think the Sevylor models are great for kids, camping and just plain old recreational fun. In my opinion their biggest assets are

• the Sevylor Colorado which is extremely popular and a good quality inflatable canoe that works great for fishing, expeditions, day trips and camping
• and their sit-on-top inflatable kayaks which are extremely affordable and very fun to paddle on lakes and flat water.

Even though Sevylor inflatable kayaks may not be top of the line, one thing that is for sure is that they will continue to sell thousands of their inflatable boats to great people looking for a convenient and fun way to get out and enjoy the water!

Im 70 and want to take the k1 on an inlet to get to places to freedive I’m not taking it on the ocean I weigh 210 is it a good kayak for this. Tony [email protected]

Hi Tony, You should be just fine. It’s a cheaper kayak so I wouldn’t take it out in any rough water but within the inlet it should be perfectly fine. Also although it’s a smaller kayak it can hold a lot of weight and it’s fairly comfortable to ride. If you purchase it on Amazon you should be able to return it within 30 days if it doesn’t work out.

I bought a sevylor Ottawa use it for the first time and was the best I have bought but when inflating it for the second time there is a buldge on the bladder right down the one side and can’t seem to get it sorted any one had the same problem with there’s.

Hi there, I am considering buying one of Sevylor kayaks (perhaps, Tahiti-3 as it seems to be widely available second hand) to go kayaking/camping with my family for a few days. Do you know whether the seats can be replaced with our dry bags so that we can comfortably fit in all the kit needed for camping? Is buying them second-hand a sensible option or they don’t tend to last long? Any wise words of advice appreciated, thank you!

Hi Maria, The seats in the Tahiti 3 can be moved or taken right out so no problem with space for your dry bags. I have bought a couple inflatable kayaks second hand and they lasted for years so it’s definitely possible to still get a good one. I would suggest making sure you see it blown up first to make sure it’s not visibly leaking air and don’t buy one that is more than two years old. Good luck!

Hi Roberta, It should be just fine. I would tend to not veer too far out from shore and maybe follow the shoreline as you paddle but the K5 should handle well on calm water.

It is comfortable, adjustable seats are removable, meaning the kayak can be switched from a one to a two person model in no time.
