Travel rules to Dubai from India eased: Here are the new requirements

Dubai residence visa holders can now travel from india to dubai if they have the necessary approval from the gdrfa and can produce negative covid test results..

Dubai

Dubai residence visa holders can now travel from India to Dubai if they have the necessary approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and can produce negative Covid test results.

These are the only two requirements that travellers must fulfil. Their vaccination status will not be taken into account by airline representatives at check-in counters, the Khaleej Times reported.

The GDRFA is a government entity that regulates the entry and exit of international travellers from Dubai as well as the residency of foreign nationals in the city.

The Dubai government had earlier said that with regard to travel from India, only passengers with a valid residence visa who have received two doses of a UAE-approved vaccine are allowed to travel to Dubai. There are four vaccines approved by the UAE government — Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Oxford-AstraZeneca.

Dubai had last month announced relaxation of travel restrictions from countries, including India. The UAE, in late April, had closed its borders for travellers from India. This had come in the backdrop of the surge in number of Covid-19 cases in India during the second wave of the pandemic.

Festive offer

Responding to a customer on Twitter, an Emirates Airline support executive on Monday tweeted, “Dubai residence visa holders can travel as long as they present a printout of GDRFA approval, a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of departure and a negative Rapid PCR test taken 04 hours prior to travel.”

Hi, Dubai residence visa holders can travel as long as they present a printout of GDRFA approval, a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of departure and a negative Rapid PCR test taken 04 hours prior to travel. “As per instructions issued by civil aviation authorities in Dubai, for passengers to disembark in Dubai, only three documents are required. They need to have a GDRFA approval, negative RT-PCR test result taken 48 hours before departure, and a rapid PCR test result from the airport,” an Air India official in the UAE was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.

Eat and drink safely

Food and water standards around the world vary based on the destination. Standards may also differ within a country and risk may change depending on activity type (e.g., hiking versus business trip). You can learn more about safe food and drink choices when traveling by accessing the resources below.

  • Choose Safe Food and Drinks When Traveling
  • Water Treatment Options When Hiking, Camping or Traveling
  • Global Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
  • Avoid Contaminated Water During Travel

You can also visit the Department of State Country Information Pages for additional information about food and water safety.

Prevent bug bites

Bugs (like mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas) can spread a number of diseases in India. Many of these diseases cannot be prevented with a vaccine or medicine. You can reduce your risk by taking steps to prevent bug bites.

What can I do to prevent bug bites?

  • Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats.
  • Use an appropriate insect repellent (see below).
  • Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (such as boots, pants, socks, and tents). Do not use permethrin directly on skin.
  • Stay and sleep in air-conditioned or screened rooms.
  • Use a bed net if the area where you are sleeping is exposed to the outdoors.

What type of insect repellent should I use?

  • FOR PROTECTION AGAINST TICKS AND MOSQUITOES: Use a repellent that contains 20% or more DEET for protection that lasts up to several hours.
  • Picaridin (also known as KBR 3023, Bayrepel, and icaridin)
  • Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or para-menthane-diol (PMD)
  • 2-undecanone
  • Always use insect repellent as directed.

What should I do if I am bitten by bugs?

  • Avoid scratching bug bites, and apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion to reduce the itching.
  • Check your entire body for ticks after outdoor activity. Be sure to remove ticks properly.

What can I do to avoid bed bugs?

Although bed bugs do not carry disease, they are an annoyance. See our information page about avoiding bug bites for some easy tips to avoid them. For more information on bed bugs, see Bed Bugs .

For more detailed information on avoiding bug bites, see Avoid Bug Bites .

Some diseases in India—such as dengue, Zika, filariasis, and leishmaniasis—are spread by bugs and cannot be prevented with a vaccine. Follow the insect avoidance measures described above to prevent these and other illnesses.

Stay safe outdoors

If your travel plans in India include outdoor activities, take these steps to stay safe and healthy during your trip.

  • Stay alert to changing weather conditions and adjust your plans if conditions become unsafe.
  • Prepare for activities by wearing the right clothes and packing protective items, such as bug spray, sunscreen, and a basic first aid kit.
  • Consider learning basic first aid and CPR before travel. Bring a travel health kit with items appropriate for your activities.
  • If you are outside for many hours in heat, eat salty snacks and drink water to stay hydrated and replace salt lost through sweating.
  • Protect yourself from UV radiation : use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during the hottest time of day (10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
  • Be especially careful during summer months and at high elevation. Because sunlight reflects off snow, sand, and water, sun exposure may be increased during activities like skiing, swimming, and sailing.
  • Very cold temperatures can be dangerous. Dress in layers and cover heads, hands, and feet properly if you are visiting a cold location.

Stay safe around water

  • Swim only in designated swimming areas. Obey lifeguards and warning flags on beaches.
  • Practice safe boating—follow all boating safety laws, do not drink alcohol if driving a boat, and always wear a life jacket.
  • Do not dive into shallow water.
  • Do not swim in freshwater in developing areas or where sanitation is poor.
  • Avoid swallowing water when swimming. Untreated water can carry germs that make you sick.
  • To prevent infections, wear shoes on beaches where there may be animal waste.

Schistosomiasis and leptospirosis, infections that can be spread in fresh water, are found in India. Avoid swimming in fresh, unchlorinated water, such as lakes, ponds, or rivers.

Keep away from animals

Most animals avoid people, but they may attack if they feel threatened, are protecting their young or territory, or if they are injured or ill. Animal bites and scratches can lead to serious diseases such as rabies.

Follow these tips to protect yourself:

  • Do not touch or feed any animals you do not know.
  • Do not allow animals to lick open wounds, and do not get animal saliva in your eyes or mouth.
  • Avoid rodents and their urine and feces.
  • Traveling pets should be supervised closely and not allowed to come in contact with local animals.
  • If you wake in a room with a bat, seek medical care immediately. Bat bites may be hard to see.

All animals can pose a threat, but be extra careful around dogs, bats, monkeys, sea animals such as jellyfish, and snakes. If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, immediately:

  • Wash the wound with soap and clean water.
  • Go to a doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor about your injury when you get back to the United States.

Consider buying medical evacuation insurance. Rabies is a deadly disease that must be treated quickly, and treatment may not be available in some countries.

Reduce your exposure to germs

Follow these tips to avoid getting sick or spreading illness to others while traveling:

  • Wash your hands often, especially before eating.
  • If soap and water aren’t available, clean hands with hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol).
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you need to touch your face, make sure your hands are clean.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Try to avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • If you are sick, stay home or in your hotel room, unless you need medical care.

Avoid sharing body fluids

Diseases can be spread through body fluids, such as saliva, blood, vomit, and semen.

Protect yourself:

  • Use latex condoms correctly.
  • Do not inject drugs.
  • Limit alcohol consumption. People take more risks when intoxicated.
  • Do not share needles or any devices that can break the skin. That includes needles for tattoos, piercings, and acupuncture.
  • If you receive medical or dental care, make sure the equipment is disinfected or sanitized.

Know how to get medical care while traveling

Plan for how you will get health care during your trip, should the need arise:

  • Carry a list of local doctors and hospitals at your destination.
  • Review your health insurance plan to determine what medical services it would cover during your trip. Consider purchasing travel health and medical evacuation insurance.
  • Carry a card that identifies, in the local language, your blood type, chronic conditions or serious allergies, and the generic names of any medications you take.
  • Some prescription drugs may be illegal in other countries. Call India’s embassy to verify that all of your prescription(s) are legal to bring with you.
  • Bring all the medicines (including over-the-counter medicines) you think you might need during your trip, including extra in case of travel delays. Ask your doctor to help you get prescriptions filled early if you need to.

Many foreign hospitals and clinics are accredited by the Joint Commission International. A list of accredited facilities is available at their website ( www.jointcommissioninternational.org ).

In some countries, medicine (prescription and over-the-counter) may be substandard or counterfeit. Bring the medicines you will need from the United States to avoid having to buy them at your destination.

Malaria is a risk in India. Fill your malaria prescription before you leave and take enough with you for the entire length of your trip. Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking the pills; some need to be started before you leave.

Select safe transportation

Motor vehicle crashes are the #1 killer of healthy US citizens in foreign countries.

In many places cars, buses, large trucks, rickshaws, bikes, people on foot, and even animals share the same lanes of traffic, increasing the risk for crashes.

Be smart when you are traveling on foot.

  • Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks.
  • Pay attention to the traffic around you, especially in crowded areas.
  • Remember, people on foot do not always have the right of way in other countries.

Riding/Driving

Choose a safe vehicle.

  • Choose official taxis or public transportation, such as trains and buses.
  • Ride only in cars that have seatbelts.
  • Avoid overcrowded, overloaded, top-heavy buses and minivans.
  • Avoid riding on motorcycles or motorbikes, especially motorbike taxis. (Many crashes are caused by inexperienced motorbike drivers.)
  • Choose newer vehicles—they may have more safety features, such as airbags, and be more reliable.
  • Choose larger vehicles, which may provide more protection in crashes.

Think about the driver.

  • Do not drive after drinking alcohol or ride with someone who has been drinking.
  • Consider hiring a licensed, trained driver familiar with the area.
  • Arrange payment before departing.

Follow basic safety tips.

  • Wear a seatbelt at all times.
  • Sit in the back seat of cars and taxis.
  • When on motorbikes or bicycles, always wear a helmet. (Bring a helmet from home, if needed.)
  • Avoid driving at night; street lighting in certain parts of India may be poor.
  • Do not use a cell phone or text while driving (illegal in many countries).
  • Travel during daylight hours only, especially in rural areas.
  • If you choose to drive a vehicle in India, learn the local traffic laws and have the proper paperwork.
  • Get any driving permits and insurance you may need. Get an International Driving Permit (IDP). Carry the IDP and a US-issued driver's license at all times.
  • Check with your auto insurance policy's international coverage, and get more coverage if needed. Make sure you have liability insurance.
  • Avoid using local, unscheduled aircraft.
  • If possible, fly on larger planes (more than 30 seats); larger airplanes are more likely to have regular safety inspections.
  • Try to schedule flights during daylight hours and in good weather.

Medical Evacuation Insurance

If you are seriously injured, emergency care may not be available or may not meet US standards. Trauma care centers are uncommon outside urban areas. Having medical evacuation insurance can be helpful for these reasons.

Maintain personal security

Use the same common sense traveling overseas that you would at home, and always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

Before you leave

  • Research your destination(s), including local laws, customs, and culture.
  • Monitor travel advisories and alerts and read travel tips from the US Department of State.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) .
  • Leave a copy of your itinerary, contact information, credit cards, and passport with someone at home.
  • Pack as light as possible, and leave at home any item you could not replace.

While at your destination(s)

  • Carry contact information for the nearest US embassy or consulate .
  • Carry a photocopy of your passport and entry stamp; leave the actual passport securely in your hotel.
  • Follow all local laws and social customs.
  • Do not wear expensive clothing or jewelry.
  • Always keep hotel doors locked, and store valuables in secure areas.
  • If possible, choose hotel rooms between the 2nd and 6th floors.

To call for emergency services while in India, dial 100 or, from a mobile phone, 112. Write these numbers down to carry with you during your trip.

Learn as much as you can about India before you travel there. A good place to start is the country-specific information on India from the US Department of State.

Healthy Travel Packing List

Remind your patients to pack health and safety items. Use the Healthy Travel Packing List for India for a list of health-related items they should consider packing.

If you are not feeling well after your trip, you may need to see a doctor. If you need help finding a travel medicine specialist, see Find a Clinic . Be sure to tell your doctor about your travel, including where you went and what you did on your trip. Also tell your doctor if you were bitten or scratched by an animal while traveling.

If your doctor prescribed antimalarial medicine for your trip, keep taking the rest of your pills after you return home. If you stop taking your medicine too soon, you could still get sick.

Malaria is always a serious disease and may be a deadly illness. If you become ill with a fever either while traveling in a malaria-risk area or after you return home (for up to 1 year), you should seek immediate medical attention and should tell the doctor about your travel history.

Relief for travellers on UAE-India flights as fares finally drop to Dh1,000 or lower

Business aviation.

Fares to in-demand destinations in India see drops of Dh1,000-Dh1,500

Stock India-UAE travel

Dubai: After a blistering summer of high fares, ticket rates on the always-busy UAE-India routes are seeing significant drops to around or under Dh1,000 for Economy. It will definitely be of help to those who have imminent travel plans to and from India.

The Dh1,000 fares compare with the peaks of Dh2,700 per person for flights from the UAE to cities in India’s North and West during July and August. Those with end-destinations in South India had to shell out as much as Dh3,500 for summer travel. (To keep the fare costs manageable, many travellers headed for South Indian destinations opted to fly to Amritsar and then catch a domestic flight to where they needed to go.)

Now, Fares to most airports in India, including those in the hyper-busy South sector, have dropped by 25-30 per cent. Additionally, prices are expected to fall to an average of Dh870 to Dh990 after September 16 and should remain stable until mid-November.

In fact, many UAE travel agents call this a 'correction period' following the peak summer fares of summer 2023, driven by the ‘revenge travel’ trend, and 2022, which flight capacities were impacted by pandemic-induced travel restrictions.

“After an expensive summer, especially for average middle-class families, fares are finally stabilising in the India-UAE sector,” said Basheer Mohammed, General Manager of Europe Travel and Tours. “These fares are far more affordable than the highs we saw in 2022-2023.

“Last year and the year before, Indian expatriates returning to the UAE after the summer holidays had to delay their travel plans due to a more than 200 per cent increase in fares compared to off-season dates.

A quick weekend trip

“Even travellers who would like to make a quick trip to India over the upcoming weekend (September 14-16) for Kerala’s Onam festival can get last-minute tickets for Dh810 (to Mumbai) and Dh1,095 (to Kochi),” said Rashid Abbas, the Managing Director of Arooha Travels.

Over the July- August break, fares to these destinations were priced well over Dh2,500, said Abbas.

According to Mehar Sawlani, Director of Sales at Richmond Gulf Travels, fares from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah for India-bound flights are seeing further drops. “A lot of travellers living in Dubai opting to fly out of Abu Dhabi, and RAK are seeing drops well below Dh1,300,” said Mehar.

For example, Abu Dhabi—Mumbai flights are priced at Dh660 (Vistara) between September 12 and 17. Delhi fares are priced at Dh1095, Bengaluru flights are priced at Dh1,250 (Etihad Airways), and Abu Dhabi—Kochi fares are averaging at Dh1,253 (Etihad Airways).

RAK-Mumbai fares are priced at Dh735 (IndiGo). According to travel agents, airfares from Sharjah International Airport are also competitively priced.

Afi Ahmed, Chairman of Smart Travels, said demand in India has remained consistent in the first eight months of the year. “Many Indian expatriates travel to India several times a year, especially during the off-peak seasons,” he said. “Travellers are also taking advantage of the increased connectivity to Tier 2 cities (Air India Express).

“This month, some expatriate travellers, especially those without kids (or without school–going children), have postponed their return to Dubai after September 16 to take advantage of the lower fares.”

An Economy class ticket from Dubai to Mumbai for travel between September 12-17 is Dh810 with Air India.

Budget carriers SpiceJet and IndiGo have fares averaging around Dh840 on the same route, while full-service carriers Vistara and Emirates are between Dh1,000 and Dh1,090. Over the summer, fares on this route were averaging Dh1,070 to Dh1,800.

Similarly, Delhi-Dubai flights are priced at Dh846 (Air India) to Dh1,100 (Emirates) compared to highs of Dh1,200 to Dh1,900.

“Middle East carrier fares are relatively higher because most of these flights cater to connecting traffic from Europe and the Americas,” said Ahmed. “Budget carriers, on the other hand, cater to the point-to-point traffic,”

In the hyper-busy South India sector, especially Kerala and Karnataka, fares surged to Dh1,588-Dh2,277 from July to August.

Fares now average from Dh1,096 (Kochi) to Dh1,380 (Thiruvananthapuram). Dubai to Chennai fares stand at Dh938, and Dubai to Jaipur tickets are priced at Dh957. “Connectivity to Jaipur, usually considered a two-tier city, has dropped because airlines, including Etihad Airways, have improved,” said Ahmed.

Good to know

Faqs - booking india flights, i am visiting goa, what is the best airport to use.

Dabolim Airport (GOI), situated within a naval base in western India, is the main airport in Goa. While there are some international flights that operate during the main tourist visiting times, the airport currently operates as a Domestic Terminal. It might be more practical to fly into Mumbai from Dubai and catch one of the many domestic onward flights to Goa.

Which airport is closest to Darjeeling?

If you are travelling to Darjeeling at the foothills to the Himalayas, the best airport to fly into is Bagdogra Airport (IXB). From Dubai it is possible to catch a flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi and then hop onto a connecting domestic flight to Bagdogra.

How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Dubai to India?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Dubai to India.

How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Dubai to India?

Top tips for finding cheap flights to India

  • Looking for a cheap flight? 25% of our users found tickets from Dubai to the following destinations at these prices or less: Mumbai AED 294 one-way - AED 768 round-trip; Kochi (Cochin) AED 296 one-way - AED 904 round-trip; New Delhi AED 340 one-way - AED 1,007 round-trip
  • On average*, there is no price difference when choosing to fly in the morning or the evening on this flight route.
  • There are many beautiful natural sights and monuments in India for you to visit so take into consideration your arrival airport to have the easiest onward connections from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to India. For good connections around the country, Mumbai is a great hub as it is centrally located. For visiting areas in the north, such as Darjeeling, flights into New Delhi are a good bet while if your visit focuses on southern India, think about flying into Chennai.
  • If you want to travel to Kerala, look at direct flights to either Trivandrum Airport (TRV) or Cochin Airport (COK) in Kochi. Trivandrum, the capital is ideal to visit the southern part of the state, giving access to some beautiful beaches. Kochi, a port city, is further up the coast and will allow you to explore further north in Kerala.
  • If you want to relax before your flight from Dubai to India consider booking into one of the Sleep ‘n Fly lounges that exist at T1 and T3 of DXB. You can book a sleep pod for anything from on hour for a power nap to an overnight stay and make sure you board your flight to India fresh and ready to go.

Top 5 airlines serving from Dubai to India

More leg room or a bed hahaha but in all was one of the best flys I been on

‏One of the worst flights I took in My life, delays after delays, then the AC is not working and we were living in a sauna,& we were sweating like pigs. and this even before take off. Next we arrived late one hour late, baggage claims worse than the delay itself add to that one more hour to get our luggage. I am extremely disappointed and my experience is I’m never going to fly on Emirates airline. Immigration was the only good thing about this trip. It took us seven minutes to go through to the luggage claims.

Excellent staff! Flights were delayed due to technical issues after everyone was boarded and we sat in the flight for almost 2 hours before taking off. Not enough vegetarian food was available despite pre-ordering. The staff did an exceptional job dealing with both the problems neither of their making.

When you buy emirates you don’t expect low cost. Boarding by bus. Seat will not incline. Line before emergency exit. Eating tray hits belly (and I didn’t grow lately). Entertainment on demand by payment.

Better entertainment; the lack of it made the very long flight even longer

POOR CREW BEHAVIOR. RESTRICTIONS ON FOOD. FEELS LIKE ECONOMY CLASS.

Absolutely horrible all around especially for such a long 13-14 hour flight - terrible food - ancient entertainment - legroom worse than a short air Asia flight - not enough toilets

Everything was superb, only bad point was that the fast track on London Heathrow arrivals was not handed out to me and I had to go back to the gate to collect it.

Everything was good up until getting off the plane. Riyadh simply cannot handle an A380. Exiting the plane on a remote stand was extremely slow and frustrating, then waiting for buses for transport back to the terminal is another disaster. Give me the 777 any day.

Food was good, great communication by Pilot and Co Pilot, Crew very friendly. Slow beginning drink and meal service - over 2hrs into flight which disrupted overnight flight sleep. Entertainment systems was 3 Stars, my wife's was nonfunctional and had to call attendant 3 times to get it reset, mine the headphones and jack we're twitchy and keep going to muted volume.

Boarding is becoming a hassle with Indigo nowadays, particularly if you are placed towards the front. The overhead luggage trays are either packed with flight equipments or already loaded by other passengers. So, if you are on front rows, your luggage may eventually end up towards middle. Food quality is going down by day. The only good element of being on time is also shaky nowadays.

Worst checkin experience. Lot of delays. Checkin agents rude. Flight delayed. No regrets by the airline.

Level of service is definitely going down, cannot expect the same service as earlier

Crew was horrible. No greetings. Did not ask for any food. The crew seemed like they were forced on the flight against the wishes. Should be de-roastered.

Indigo attempts to make you pay for a seat during check in. I opted to not do this. The result - they allotted me and my minor son seats apart. In the interest of making maximum money, they seem to have lost common sense too. Similarly, even during the flight, the crew are busy trying to serve food to those who’ve already paid for it. By the time they’re done, it’s time to land and no one else is able to get anything. Sadly this seems to be what makes them profitable, customers just need to bear with it till a better airline comes along.

As usual invariably delayed Lots of time in getting chkd in baggage

Staff needs to be trained in managing customers better. Indigo appears to be a low cost airlines in all aspects.

Flight was delayed and also lots of mosquitoes on the flight

Two times the gate was changed and flight got delayed

INDIGO Never On Time & Always Prefer to Shuttle Passengers Like shuttle Corks

I have been an NRI living abroad for the last 35 years, but I had one of my worst experiences recently at the Dharbhanga airport, especially with the ground staff. Their behavior was very rude; one of the staff members almost abused me and charged me extra for my laptop and cable that I was carrying from Dharbhanga to Delhi, where I had an international flight. Despite being careful with the weight limits, the ground staff treated me very poorly, making it one of the worst flying experiences of my life.

Staff could have been helpful when traveling with kids and seniors. Not at all professional staff, just some janitors who do not understand hospitality. The food was horrible; the tomatoes tasted foul. The flight was small and the legroom was not good.

Flight was changed without proper monitor display. Boarding process was confusing with no announcements.

Flight arrived on time even though boarding and takeoff were delayed. No infant seatbelt provided. Crew was a bit indifferent. Baggage was damaged and representatives refused to write up a damage report.

IGI T-1 terminal is under renovation. So, the boarding and check in process took extremely long, due to reduced number of kiosks. Further, the flight was delayed by 1 hour 15 mins. The same was not being properly informed to the passengers because of which a feeling of slight chaos was evident amongst the passengers. All this further increased the discomfort, which was already in the menu due to the ATR aircraft. Lastly, the Spicescreen website wasn't working properly due to pathetic interface and poor wifi connectivity, which otherwise could have been a pass-time during the flight. Such issues were not expected from Spicejet and need to be taken care and handled in a better manner in future.

The flight 3 time delay I was so nervous and full tired

Flight cancelled without notice at the 11th hour, refund not done now one week passed

Timing Should be Accurate to Fly Flight was Delay By 3 hrs

Fly has been canceled 3 hours before departure. That happens after 2 delayed departures. No automatic compensation. Spicejet refused to give us compensation form. Bad service.

Landing at Delhi IGI AIRPORT was not smooth. It made us bit nervous. Then the rest was ok. Staff and the crew are very efficient.

Food not of any international or even Indian standard. We have many cuisine available but only paneer & sundry items. Improve & provide some good indian items. Entertainment website or channel out of order.

Entertainment screens were either broken nor did not work. Also seat back did not work. Definitely not comfortable journey

Planes are very old and dated, entertainment doesn't work at all, food was below average. Flight was on time and seats have better leg space than competition.

Non reclining seats on a 14 hour flight. Crew skipped drinks for my row at least twice.

Everything was bad and entertainment did not work and no landing cards and overall done with Air India

Too bad. Got too much trouble with security screening at New Delhi

Poor behavior by ground staff in Mumbai. Very harassing. Initially they did not let me board with my little violin. They do not have the correct information. No concept of hospitality. The food on the flight was not good.

Information about when boarding would start was missing. Ground staff wasn't ready to provide any information with the answer being in the next 15 minutes any time we asked. (Took 2 hours)

I don’t like air India seats are too small and staff are not that nice

The tv didn’t work and the seats were too small

The crew was polite. The snacks were served cold and were tasteless.

Absolutely ignorant Air India personnel at the Air India counters in Cochin Airport.

Land for job scam case: Delhi court allows RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav to travel to Dubai with family

Land for job money laundering case: according to the ed, the case pertains to group-d appointments made during lalu prasad's tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009 in return for land parcels gifted or transferred by the recruits in the name of the rjd supremo's family or associates..

Tejashwi Yadav

Additionally, the court has also asked Yadav to provide details of his foreign travel plans and the mobile number he will use during the trip.

Yadav, who is an accused in the Land for Job case and is currently out on bail, had surrendered his passport as part of his bail conditions. Therefore, in order to travel abroad, he needed to seek permission from the court to release his passport.

What is the case?

It is alleged that from 2004 to 2009, several people were appointed to Group D positions in various zones of the Indian Railways in return for land they transferred to the family members of Prasad, the then railway minister, and a linked company named AK Infosystems Private Limited.

Katyal was the director of this company when it acquired land from candidates "on behalf" of Lalu Prasad, the ED had earlier claimed in a statement.

The ED case, filed under the criminal sections of the PMLA, stems from a complaint lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav were granted bail by a trial court in October after the CBI filed a chargesheet against them in this case.

According to the CBI, no advertisement or public notice was issued for the appointment, but some residents of Patna were appointed as substitutes in different zonal railways in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hazipur. As a quid pro quo, the candidates, directly or through their immediate family members, allegedly sold land to Prasad's family members at highly discounted rates, up to one-fourth to one-fifth of the prevailing market rates, the CBI alleged.

Paid parking in Dubai: Residents face up to Dh4,000 extra yearly costs when new rates kick in

The India-UAE air corridor is one of the busiest routes as a large number of Indians travel to the Gulf country for business, tourism and employment purposes. As the festival season is approaching, the flow of visitors is set to increase substantially. But, of late, there has been a noticeable increase in the rate at which check-in baggage is being declined at Mumbai International Airport as domestic and international passengers are carrying more items that are banned.

According to Mumbai Airport, some of the prohibited items frequently found in check-in baggage are dry coconut (copra), fireworks, flares, party poppers, matches, paint, fire camphor, ghee, pickles, and other oily food items.

“Some other items that are considered top culprits include e-cigarettes, lighters, power banks, and spray bottles to name a few. Unbeknownst to many passengers, all these items pose potential risks to flight safety when mishandled or stored improperly. These items are typically known to be associated with fire hazards, explosions, or interference with the aircraft's electrical systems,” Mumbai Airport said.

Highly flammable items

A total of 943 dry coconuts from passengers’ check-in bags were found in a month alone last year. Dry coconut contains a high amount of oil which is highly flammable and can cause fire if it encounters heat inside the aircraft. India’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) added it to the list of prohibited items in March 2022, with the majority of passengers still lacking awareness about this inclusion, it said.

As per Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) third-quarter passenger figures, Dubai, London and Abu Dhabi continued to hold their status as the most preferred international destinations as the passenger traffic from the top three international destinations surpassed 1.1 million, marking a 21 per cent increase as compared to 0.9 million in Q3 2022.

Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.

Importantly, the UAE is home to over 3.5 million non-resident Indians, the largest expatriate community in the Gulf country. In addition, Indians account for the largest portion of tourist numbers. India continued to be the top destination for Dubai International Airport in the first half of 2023 with 6 million passengers using the world’s busiest airport.

“While CSMIA understands the emotional importance attached to certain religious items, especially during festive periods, some of these seemingly harmless items can potentially be life-threatening and pose grave safety and security risks.

“This rising trend in the rejection rate of check-in baggage can largely be attributed to a lack of awareness among general travellers regarding items that are prohibited or dangerous to be carried in the aircraft. Passengers must prioritise knowing and comprehending the guidelines issued by the airport or airlines concerning items that are considered hazardous and prohibited,” it said.

Check-in baggage screening process

The proportion of check-in bags that were rejected compared to the total number of screened bags, increased from 0.31 per cent in December 2022 to 0.73 per cent in May.

The baggage system at Mumbai Airport has an approximate 8-kilometre baggage belt that handles a remarkable capacity of 9,600 bags per hour at Terminal 2 and 4,800 bags per hour at Terminal 1.

Some of the banned items:

  • Dry coconut (copra)
  • Party poppers
  • Fire camphor
  • Oily food items
  • E-cigarettes
  • Power banks
  • Spray bottles

Below is the check-in baggage screening process for passengers travelling through Mumbai International Airport.

Step 1: Passengers hand over their check-in bags to the airline counters. The airline representative sticks a barcode tag on the bag.

Step 2: The bag goes through an X-ray, one level down, transported on blue conveyor belts.

Step 3: Eight X-ray machines scan each bag and send it off. The In-Line Security team member receives the scanned X-Ray image and within 20 to 30 seconds it’s decided if the bag is clear to go ahead. CCTV cameras track each bag during this entire process.
